    You are never obligated to make yourself 'presentable' for anyone, especially us gardeners! 😊💕 You're perfect just the way you are! I'm glad the event is coming together so well. No surprise here! 🌷

    Janie, Your well house is on the side of the long border, there will be a water main leaving the well house so have a plumber add a water spigot to the water main just outside the well house. let this spigot run the long border to cut down on the black ploy running such a long distance. This should help with water pressure as the water is not having to pressurize such a long piece of poly. Adding this would just add another zone. Also, make sure your zones are not running simultaneously. I would say give 20 to 30 min between each zone for the pressure to maximize in you tank. Also, schedule water zones in the garden to run before or after the water dependent house routines such as showers, and dishes. I hope this helps and lets Dig, Plant, Water, Repeat!

    I cannot believe how much concrete of all sorts is all over your property…makes you wonder what on earth the previous owners were doing! You are definitely restoring your property and giving it back to the earth and improving its value for sure! 🌱

    That big tank is a pressure tank, not a pump. You may consider a separate pressure tank for the outside water. Set it up with a switch that allows you to switch between house/garden so if one fails you have a backup. In my opinion, that would be the best solution for your watering needs.

    Hey Janie, I believe Aaron and Laura (GardenAnswer) are on a well also. They have a large property with many zones for drip irrigation. Not sure what pumps they use. You might be able to reach out to Aaron for any advise. Just a thought.

    • @MarylineMallet
      @MarylineMallet 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      Yes, and Laura installed last year drip irrigation for her mother and sister in law, and the way she does it with the horizontal lines appears much easier and efficient to ensure all plants have water and good pressure. Would be worth a look!

    You are adorable without makeup! I was shocked at $65.00 for one chick. They go to $2 bucks at feed stores or Tractor supply. Yes, you might get a rooster, but most feed stores that sell them will take roosters back. Janey…65 for one chick is outrageous!

    • @clairemcblair
      @clairemcblair 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I think the DNA tests cost $60 each, so thats what shes paying for. Silkies are the hardest to sex, so you could end up with 1 female, have to buy more, still get roos, and have chicks at different sizes and ages by the time you have at least 3 hens for a happy flock. By the time you know male/female, you're investing money, time, and love onto each chick, so if you take them back, it is still tough, and you probably need to buy more and hope they're not roos.
      I've ended up with only one hen in a new batch of chicks before, and the feed store did not take back the roos.
      If you're busy and want to achieve your goal the first time, the dna tests are worth it, especially for silkies.

    • @katiedavis5861
      @katiedavis5861 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ya that's wildly outrageous. You can usually rehome roosters once they get aggressive or cull them... it's rough at first but it's just part of the deal.

    Janey, I live on a half acre in Arizona. So I totally understand the concern with water pressure and its non-negotiability. I think multiple zones is the best approach. Trying to water your entire property at the same time will definitely cause a problem. It does help to have multiple manifolds to set these zones. Over the winter, Jenny and Jerry (Gardening with Creekside) did a video on setting up their watering manifold to their proven winners signature garden. It’s a great video. Good luck love. I’m “rooting” 😊 you on and watching to find out what you do.

    Hi Janie,
    I live on a half acre and I have 24 water zones. It takes about 8 hours for just a 20 min watering each zone. It is so the zones don’t get overloaded and all the plants get enough water. Hope this helps you.

    We bought a house recently with well water too. Had the same questions when we moved in. Our low water pressure in the house turned out to be clogged faucet screens. I guess the calcite used in the system builds up and the shower heads and faucets get clogged more often. Not sure thats a problem you're having but thought I would pass it on. I love watching what you're doing to your yard. Love that clematis & the Petaluma nursery.

    Hi Janey. Wish we were near by & could attend your pop up. We do have some proven winner plants at our big box stores & local nurseries. Suggest you separate some of your watering areas with on & off valves to keep pressure strong. I have seen on /off switches for garden beds. When we had a country property in Sebastopol we had chickens twice. The first group was killed by a group of dogs including a neighbors bird dog who torn the wire and they killed every chicken just for sport. There are health issues for chickens including mites on the feet and lice in the feathers... Usually you dip them in a low grade chemical bath ( pyrethrum -which is derived from chystanthanums?) and also use a powder in the coop. I believe they treat the feet with vaseline. Given the issues with bird flu ... ,I would not mix animals like rabbits with chickens.
    I would research more about chickens and their care. Chickens can be fun , but they are a lot of work. Love the progress in your garden. Check out more of the nurseries around Santa Rosa. There are so many!

    IDK about there, but here in Tennessee, well water is WAY cheaper than city water supply. The neighbors got on city water and got rid of their wells. Now they're regretting it. It got really expensive. My well has never run dry, even in the driest years (like last year here). I have moved towards growing plants that take droughts like a champ, though. They may not look great in dry years lol, but they won't die if they get dry.

    You can drill under sidewalks and driveways using a long flexible auger attachment, then install pipe to draw utilities and irrigation through. There are videos on TH-cam that you can find. O🐔M🐓G!
    $65.00 for a CHICKEN?
    Girl, PLEASE either call your local Livestock advisory or go to Tractor Supply!
    I'm a Master Livestock Advisor for Washington State University. I can't believe the price being charged for a chicken! If you don't want a Rooster then get one or two extra chicks and you'll soon know who the rooster is. He'll tell you at about 3:00am.
    Lots of people want roosters so you can give him away.
    I've had many chickens for many years. I adore them.
    They are extremely sweet and love to cuddle when purchased as chicks.
    (btw, so are turkeys)
    Good luck on your new adventure!! I love your channel.
    Blessings from Seattle ❤🐔🐓🦃

      I think the $60 DNA test per chicken is absolutely worth it if
      1) your goal is hens only,
      2) you're getting bantam chickens, which are hard to sex
      3) you get attached to your animals and have a hard time saying goodbye
      4) don't want to learn chicken math right away... with a flock of 3 day, 4 weeks, and 8 weeks chicks, pullets, and cockerels
      I've ended up with one hen in a batch of chicks before, and I've had a roo not develop roo coloring, comb, or crow til 8 weeks (though I was suspicious at 6 because I'm not a newbie like Janie).
      Janie will have the peace of mind that unless someone dies, she'll get to keep each hen, bond with each individually, get it right for her family's goals the first time.

    You've gotta get some salvia guaranitica! Amistad blooms year round in 9b and the hummingbirds love it.

    Hey Janey: GREAT video today. We used to raise commercial broiler chickens. Full grown, fifty thousand broilers drink a LOT of water. We had a back-up system in case the main system went down, but one, 1 hp pump served the chicken houses, and our home. With a new pump if you still have fluctuating water pressure check your expansion tank.

    Maybe you could put a water tank behind the shed, when funds become available … that would give you some supplemental water.
    Squeee! I had silky bantams as a kid. My favourite was “Snowdrop”🥰

    I KNEW you would be getting chickens! Jason never stood a chance, haha! Absolutely loved seeing all those hummingbirds at your feeders. We only get one or two, and they don't like to share. They will be so happy when the purple hyacinth beans flower. 💐

    Love a random video. That’s so characteristic of what most days in the garden are!
