  • Welcome Gardeners! Join me today for my September Front Garden Tour! MOST of the garden is looking beautiful, however we are dealing with some pests: budworms, gophers and something called a figeater beetle?! It’s all ok though! The pests are just making the garden interesting, right? 🪲 Enjoy!

Hey Janey. Once your Lavendar Twist Redbud loses its leaves be sure to remove all the "leaf litter" at the base of the tree. The fungus is much less likely to occur next year and winter over. 😊 I do this with my big leaf Hydrangeas and it works great!

Your love of gardening is indeed showing through in this video. Its amazing how things have grown beyond expectations. My favorite is the caryopteris Beyond Midnight Bluebeard (I have 2 that are doing extremely well). Thank you for introducing us to such a wide variety of plants for Zones 9. Here in s/c Louisiana I have to contend w/high humidity but I find I can be successful with what you have introduced into your garden.

How is salvia working for you? In Vancouver BC, with dense planting and high humidity, my salvia got powdery mildew. So I'm replacing it with more lavender.

@@MyFocusVaries Salvia works great here, no mildew but I find that they'll get leggy if I don't cut back periodically. I don't do well with lavender. I lost a beautiful one this year due to a rainy summer.

You could add succulents and xeriscape plants in front and between your trees on the long border. It could be a way to showcase how some Californians garden in our hot, dry, rocky, poor soil conditions. Laura Eubanks (succulent designer)on YT has some gorgeous examples.

    coreopsis,
    salvia,
    sedum,
    agave,
    bougainvillea,

I've almost gone crazy trying to figure out how to plant things that will withstand the deer, the black walnut trees, the groundhogs, the squirrels and the rabbits. My original plans have been modified over and over and over again. Years ago, my apple trees started dying one, then another, and so on until all 5 of them were gone. I had no idea that the Black Walnut trees that my neighbor let grow were at fault. He was doing my lawnmowing and let them grow. I wish I knew then what I know now!

Your Robbie willow is looking good. You showed planting it, and you showed it growing a bit one sided, and you showed what you were trying, to correct that, but have you showed any other close ups of how that correction seems to have worked? Wishing you energy, strength, and determination in your tree planting journey. Personally I would find out how extensive all that road base is on your long border. It could have been used as other parking and really should be removed, it will never be good soil, it’s only stone and sand. Thanks for your awesome videos.

In the Midwest, we call them green June bugs. Mid June, for a few weeks they bumble around the ground during the day. I've never seen them eat anything. I think their job is to mate and then back in the ground. Freaked me out the first time I saw them years ago, but now I enjoy their antics!

I'm in 9b far northern CA and the trumpet vine is very invasive in my yard it pops up everywhere, lawn , flower beds and anywhere else , I pull it up by the roots as soon as I see it but 3 just can't seem to keep up with , it was here on this property when I bought it 27 yrs ago, it can be very frustrating to try to get rid of.

So sorry about your Gatsby Pink Hydrangea! Hope you can win the gopher battle. Glad for the #teampomegranate and #teamlemon wins!

How about planting the grasses in zig zag around propane tank?

I am gob-smacked! Your garden is so good for being so young. I also have a Temple of Bloom tree about the same size and it has burned every year. It's only getting morning sun, it's in a 15 gallon pot, water every day. Do you think it just doesn't like being in a pot? Do you fertilize yours? Can anyone else give me some insight?
