    I absolutely love Allyson’s ‘naturalistic’ philosophy. I think she is one of my kindreds when it comes to propagation and encouraging what works. What a treasure! You have to go back to her garden periodically so we can see how it progresses…. Thanks for continuing to share your subscribers’ spaces.

    I love that she includes her 16 year old puppy. I too have one the same age. Although Buckeye does not see well, but he loves the fresh air and being out in the garden. Allison garden was an inspiration to see all that she has done to make her garden very unique .

    Yes, 'resourceful' describes Allyson and her garden perfectly. I especially love that she is fearless, and therefore successful, in her attempts at gardening and building. She designed and made her own tomato cages that will last forever! - did everyone hear that? OMGoodness, the potting shed. I love the fact that it is simple in design and style as that equates to beauty. The story of the windows - I'm sure they were in rough shape but look how beautiful she restored them. Great tour, Janey.

    OMG! A person who uses my "ocean sound" trick to ignore traffic noise! I thought I was the only one! Allyson is lucky to have had the chance to learn all this hands on stuff from her dad. I am afraid that I am all thumbs and clueless when it comes to building something. I love her dad's attitude about it. I always try to reuse what I have before buying. It really helps the budget. As a Christmas present, my husband built an adorable Little Library out of a birdbath base whose top was knocked off and broken by some rowdy raccoons, the wood box was made from pices of random lumber he found under the house that was going to get trashed, and my daughter painted a charming design on it, and I absolutely LOVE it! Btw, Harry is ADORABLE!🥰

    Love love love this garden! Tip to get rid of gophers, moles and voles.... Juicy fruit gum! Tear the gum in half with the wrapper still on and then shake them out of the package onto the ground around your plants. Kills the critters without using chemicals. Happy Growing!

    Allyson, you are soooo brilliant! That painted floor in your amazing shed! those windows! that dry sink! those wagons! your beautiful white picket fences and archways, the firepit area, it's all so amazing! But most of all your sheer fearlessness with plants. That courage to dig it up and move it, chop it in half and make two plants from one and then "see what happens". What a pleasure to meet you and visit your garden. Thank you Janey for these garden visits, they're amazing!

    It’s so cool to me to see how differently plants grow in different environments. Our neighbor has Mexican petunia in her garden and consequently, it’s traveled under her privacy fence and going crazy across our lawn area. Just have to keep it mowed down. I put some in ten years ago on the other side of our property and I have been pulling it up for about eight years. I cut back black and blue salvia almost to the ground at least three times a season because it is such a bully but I would never be without it. It’s the hummingbird favorite. Your garden is wonderful and I love your big picture philosophy. Totally am with you on that. No fear. Experiment.

    I absolutely LOVE your shed! I have several cattle panel arches, but I shaped them into Gothic arches. Gardens are never done because they evolve over time. Like you, I am doing all my own landscaping and it's a process. I found a praying mantis by my sweet potatoes and a dragon fly by my salvia. Your garden tour has been so enjoyable. Thank you for sharing.

    When you first started the video in the front yard, I wasn't excited. But go thru the arch and wow. A different world. We've tried growing corn in a raised bed, not a good yield this year. We'll try next year. I love her two white arbors. Did she build them? After going thru the white arbors it's another world. Wow. Did she use stencil on the floor of her shed? Great idea for the tomato cages, wash tub, little wagons, making obelisks from vines, using cement blocks as risers.

    Allyson your garden is beautiful. Here in Texas where we get more rain the Mexican Petunias are aggressive. They spread by underground rhizome. You can propagate by cuttings. I have rooted them in water and soil also. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and garden with us.

    It’s funny, when you guys talked about Kellogg soil, Epic Gardening did soil comparisons and it faired the worst. I switched to it last year and have had terrible results, kept wondering what was going on, and think it’s because it has too much wood not broken down yet. I’m going to use my extra bags as mulch, great idea!

    • @jeannestephenson8011
      @jeannestephenson8011 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have used Kellog outdoor potting soil as a mulch for years but am finally getting tired of needing to scratch the surface so water could get through because of the tightness of the pieces.

      I watched that video. It wasn't even close to scientific. I think about the number of times I have big differences between individual plants where I've used exactly the same soil etc. You really need multiple plants for a fair comparison.

    Oh my goodness, you can definitely divide Mexican petunia. Dig out a chunk and move it. I have moved it all over my yard for years. I’m in the south zone eight and if I don’t keep an eye on it, it will take over here. I have a spot where I don’t want it anymore. I mow it every week, and it pops up again by the next week I have given a ton of it away. It has woody stems, and I cut it back every fall. 🌸

    In answer to your question, Mexican perennials (Ruellia simplex) are very easy to multiply from cuttings taken in late summer or fall and over-wintered in an unheated greenhouse. In addition, the rhizomes can be divided when you tidy up/cut back plants that survive winter; they are tender perennials that often survive our Zone 9b/Davis, CA winters. I love these plants for their shiny, dark green foliage and beautiful 1" purple flowers that bloom from June to late fall with no need for dead-heading.

    What a gorgeous garden tour! So inspiring to see Allyson's garden, and her creative endeavors. I love seeing local gardens that can survive our heat and wind.

    Yes!!! You can divide a Mexican Petunia. I've done it to mine in a container and shared with friends the last two years, and it is super happy, as usual, this year.

    We've been building our own wire tomato cages here in the south for a few decades now. The design is far superior to anything the box stores offer. We have a 9-10 month growing season here so strength is required.
