Hi Ben, thanks for sharing your late autumn garden update. Yeah, out my way we also get very cold night reaching around 3 degree celsius, but despite this all your plants & fruit trees looks very hardy and healthy
Hi Ben, I've removed the banana bell as remaining fingers won't develop into fruit. They'll just suck the energy that should go into fattening up the already developed bananas. Great to see the blue java coming up. I've the red dacca already out and Grand Naine variety is also flowering. For some reason, these bananas are still tolerating our winters! I put some Achacha seedlings in pots and accidently in the ground. Almost all have sprouted (after 2 - 3 months) with total neglect. I think they'll be able to fruit in Sydney. I don't water them at all and they seem to be very hardy.
Good to know, maybe they like flowering in winter for some reason!! Yes the achacha germinate easily, they don’t like their roots being disturbed though. Easy enough to grow but they just take a loooong time!!
Great tour as usual! My miracle plant is looking a bit sad too, despite being brought inside at night and outside during the day. Not looking promising for the long term.
Hi Ben, thanks for the tour. Looking great! Wonder which variety your first lemon is? I have the same one and it does the same things at this time of year but I've lost the label. Your miracle fruit looks the same as mine too. Your front yard trees are looking strong as! Does the front stay warmer in winter as the sun gets lower on horizon? My front yard gets more winter sun
Hey! Yeah I’m not sure what sort of lemon it is either, had it for years, one of those that was marketed as a “citrus splitzer” in the nurseries. Front yard faces west so gets the warm afternoon sun and it’s slightly elevated. Trees in the front are a bit hardier too.
Hi Ben, nice garden. I am statting my fruit tree garden this year in my home in Central Coast. Which Syd suburb are you living? Just curious what sort of impact i should expect in winter in comparison to Sydney.
Hi Mayur, very exciting to be starting a new garden! I’m in Melrose Park near Ermington , west Ryde, not too far from parramatta river. It’s possible our climate may be similar.
Hey, I reckon it’s probably 12 years old, but 8 of those was in a pot. It gets morning sun and more dappled sun this time of year when it’s lower in the sky.
Hi Julius, sure get back in touch with me when it’s warmer and is a better time for grafting. Kampong definitely, macs golden is a maybe as the tree is small. Would love the Chris variety.
Thanks for sharing, great update, everything looks like it’s in good shape as we head into winter

Thank you. Yes they’re getting hardier as they get bigger I think. Hope your trees are all doing well!
Looking good Ben 👍

Yes they’re very particular and when they don’t get what they need they show it!!

How old is that achacha? Looks great. Is it in full sun?
Hey, I reckon it’s probably 12 years old, but 8 of those was in a pot. It gets morning sun and more dappled sun this time of year when it’s lower in the sky.
Can't you just wash off the sooty mould with warm soapy water ? Seems to work on my citrus if they get it. Great round up tour thanks Ben
Yeah I probably can. It tends to come back, maybe scale and ants cause it
Hi Ben, I have White Sapote variety Chris, so is it possible to exchange 2 scion wood with your Kampong and Macs Golden? Cheers

What medium do you use to germinate panama berry? Coco peat?
Yes that’s right, coco peat. I’ve just started to germinate some but winter isn’t the right time for it!
