  • Reverend Cleophus James (James Brown) sings 'The Old Landmark' as part of a sermon at the Triple Rock Baptist Church, during which Jake Blues (John Belushi) has an epiphany to re-form his old band, the Blues Brothers.
What is The Blues Brothers (1980) about?
Comedy icons John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd star in the outrageously funny musical comedy The Blues Brothers. After the release of Jake Blues (Belushi) from prison, he and brother Elwood (Aykroyd) take their blues band back on the road in an attempt to raise money for the orphanage where they were raised. Havoc ensues as the brothers seek redemption on their "mission from God." This comedy classic features musical performances by blues legends Ray Charles, James Brown, Aretha Franklin and Cab Calloway.

My high school sweetheart went to Apostolic churches like this. We were both vocal performers although I’m not religious. Anyway, she took me to church and I swear the vibe was just like this video minus the gymnastics. 😅

I was a lyft driver in chicago in 2019. The churches I dropped off were like this if you amalgamated them. Fun stuff

It's called gospel in the Black Baptist Church. Might want to look it up. It's an over 150-year old tradition and as Holy as Gregorian Chant or any other music in the Eastern Orthodox Church. It takes its roots from the revelry in the Temple as well as African Church traditions-remember, the Ethiopian church is the oldest continuous Christian tradition going all the way back to the beginning, with direct connection through the late Ethiopian royal family to King Solomon through the Queen of Sheba. This music helped raise Black communities out of suffering and the horrors of 450 years of slavery. It started as part of call & repeat because slaves and recently freed slaves couldn't afford bibles (and many couldn't read even if they could). It is a truly American tradition and like the Black Churches in America, our national heritage.
      Word.
