One of the greatest musical productions ever. So glad R&B is being rediscovered ... and the Gospel roots ...
I am 64, and I can still remember sitting in the theatre watching this
70. Can't remember my name. I mean, me, too, in the theatre.
😂❤🎉
Saw it with my dad when it came out originally. I was 12. Had the soundtrack on 8 track!
I'm 71 and love the Blues Brothers
58 here went to see it with my mom it was like a concert
Shared w/my Family this Easter morning. That’s right.Sending my Family to Church. Hallelujah.!Amen.🙏🏾😁
And I’ll be back for afternoon and evening services😂
Its not just a worship service - is a full fitness program
Have you seen the light?
Compared to today's music, this is outstanding music
This is outstanding regardless
I'm 42, from 🇦🇺, I absolutely love this movie. This needs to shown to the younger generations, make them appreciate how society should be. ❤
I was watching this when I was like 6 . I’m also 42
Yes so I absolutely love it ❤❤❤❤
Democrat LBJ destroyed the black community for political power, to this day they are still voting to continue there own slavery.

I'm 56 from 🇩🇪 and it's still my favourite movie since it was released
They got so many musical legends to be in this brilliant movie.
Whoever the Bass player is, he deserves a medal. It is INSANE what he is doing!!! I don't think I've ever heard a faster version oof The Old Landmark than this. Just phenomenal. Shout out to Reverend James Cleveland's Southern California Community Choir. James Cleveland is of course the King of Gospel and pretty much created the whole movement/art form.
Thomas Dorsey is the father of gospel music, James Cleveland took it to another level. Thomas Dorsey was the minister of music in the same church that James grew up in.
The bass player would be Donald "Duck" Dunn. The band did all the music, but re-recorded for the soundtrack album.
Come to Pentecost and you’ll experience it live 🙏
One of the best movie scenes of all time indeed.
Hallelujah
I get goosebumps every time I see this.
Call and response music is so infectious to human beings.
It is a pure joy to watch Belushi and Ackroyd dance.
I'm so old, I had a video cassette of this movie, so often watched by my friends and me it was all but worn out. It was as if watching it was a mission from God!
My favorite scene
Best on screen preacher ever.
the Greatest Church Musical Scene in Movie History
Let the Spirit move you.
I beg to differ. I would put this up against the opening church scene from the fighting temptations.
@@_donald.harrison04 no worries some say that Scene in the 1985 movie the Color Purple in the Church can Move U too
Ha! Just surfing clips from the Blues Brothers - having enjoyed this movie a few times over the years - and this is the first time I've ever noticed freakin' Chaka Khan in the choir!
RIP Reverend James Brown the godfather of soul.
those slide moves - a trademark . .
I saw him live at the Apollo Theater in about 1974. I’m white. I went with a group of black friends and it was a blast. What a showman.
Saw Mr Brown in concert once in Indpls . Wow !! Is all I can say ❤
one of the all time greatest scenes ever
I can't believe they made movies like this
Why, it was a spoof
I don't understand what I said
Why???
@@LesleyMcGougan because they were crazy and funny
We get the communist Democrats out of office we will be free to make them again.
The whole movie is a giant “thank you” to black American music.
They got iconic musicians to play small parts in it.
Every “group” of people have their cultural contribution.
The black church is no different.
Listen to that tempo.
A blistering 150 bpm.
Yet clapping on the 2 and the 4 never wavered.
In this kind of music it’s the repetition that breaks you down.
You would struggle to sit still if you tried.
And the lead singer James Brown, who brought repetition to modern music is the best representation of it all.
Hip hop music is based on “the loop.”
Repetitive unchanging cycles. The rapper does all the dynamics but the beat stays the same.
James Brown introduced that to popular music.
He invented the loop.
Yes it was beautiful, a real insight for the ordinary movie goer (ok some obsessed Blues Brothers ones too) into American black/white culture and music and religion in their role in that culture. The movie was so positive (if a bit cliched), but overall just fantastic!
Boom boom boom boom 😊
I remember the thrill of seeing James Brown in person! Quite exciting and mesmerizing for a 17 year old White girl.
Well, loop-dee-la. James Brown had talent the rappers will never know.
He did not however invent PCP use. He just took it to a new level.
That dude on the bass guitar is KILLIN' IT!
Seriously.....friekin jelly fingers
(from Bolivia)
great music just never dies does it ?
Love it❤I would never miss church with that music😊
I am 67 and adore this movie. Soul, heart, and grace.
John Landis, the director, were present at the live recording of Aretha Franklin at New Temple Missionary Church, about 1969 and remake in Blues Brothers the same scene with the same song. Here there were James Brown and others (in some frames you can see Diana Ross, Grover Washington Jr and Donna Summer in the choir). Blues Brothers still remain one of my favourite picture.
For years I had thought this was an overdone scene until I went to a couple of churches where other than the open air flips, everything else here was as real as could be -and I realized how respectful to the tradition this move actually is to gospel music and historic churches
I could swear I saw Chaka Khan in there a couple of times. Wouldn’t be surprised since she is from Chicago.
Aretha’s version is amazing too.
That's Her!
@annemartinsen7214 This is my church when I was growing up. without the flips of course. I used to ask why we got to be so extra. Then I kept on living.
Today's society couldn't handle this movie along with any of Mel Brooks' movies!😊
I'm 63 and know this movie line for line cause I LOVE IT ❤❤❤❤❤❤Man , I miss actual entertainment!!
There is no way that you can sit still during this ... WOW ...
James will save your soul, and sing some soul while he's doing it. Praise the Lord.
Shut your trolling ass door hater have a blessed life
This was one of my favorite scenes. I saw this movie at the movie theater.
When I woke up this morning. Brilliant James brown.
“Slide on down to the Triple Rock Church and catch Reverend Cleophus” …. Great stuff !!
All Star Choir! (in some frames you can see Diana Ross, Grover Washington Jr., Chaka Khan and Donna Summer in the choir).
Why couldn't church be this fun when I was growing up?
Join any southern church down south. Trust me lol
Because this is crapping American shit approach to Christianity practice. As simple as that.
Because this is crapping American shit approach to Christianity practice. As simple as that.
You make Christianity yours, when it's existed thousand years before USA even was. CAN YOU just for a moment believe YOU didn’t CREATE anything that was not there before YOU?
@@GHOSTLYWHISPERS do they have trampolines?!🤣
Are you of color?😂
My biggest regret? I never visited a black church on my many US visits. Too old now but thanks to this wonderful video I still imagine myself there jiving.
I've been, and I can tell you that it can be an intense experience. 🙏👋
@@djjerome wow. I’m jealous. Can I share something with you? I attend a magnificent historic Anglican Church in country Queensland, Australia. Rev Sue became my closest friend after giving me the strength to farewell my beloved husband when he passed. But here’s the good bit. Our cattle dog Dave goes to Church too & is incredibly popular. We’re a very aged congregation & I let Dave roam around & kiss knees. For a bluey he’s very gentle & his contact with our mostly widowed congregation just does the trick. I’m so glad Dave & I can share happiness. But to be honest, I do wish I’d had the intense experience you had. I can feel my feet tapping now. God bless the Blues Bros. & thanks so much for sharing.

You're never too old, brother ... Just walk on in and let the spirit grab a hold of ya'!
AMEN @@RollinCoco-Nut
Nothing will ever top this…..ever!😎
I remember that part with James Brown, it was so good that your body doesn’t stop moving 👍👍👍
Now I would go to church if it was like this!!!
하나님께서 받으시는 예배가 되어야지. 당신네 같은 사고 방식을 가진자들이 교회에 나가면 하나님은 떠나십니다.
뭘좀 알고 씨부리세요. It should be a worship that God accepts. When people with the same mindset as you go to church, God leaves. Know something before you start talking nonsense.
@@huuau what is wrong with You!?
RIP John & James . Sorely missed.
Rev Sharpton toured with JB
@@pertburton5586 yes 🙌 was honored to meet her long long ago in nyc, super nice lady
The late Alonzo Atkins is the choir director and was also at one time one of the directors of the voices of tabernacle choir a choir that James Cleveland collaborated back in his Detroit days.
Reverend James starts his Gospel, musicians start playing music, People start Warming Up, then Jakes start to Shake and finally the Sun Comes In Illuminating Jake like an Angel fall from Heaven....Simply Genius!
I can’t help but notice that not only in terms of the music, but the atmosphere and presentation of this church service is both parody and respectful. Like sure parts are heightened and exaggerated, although compared with some congregations it might not be as much, but whoever put this all together was being fairly earnest and did their homework.
I love this part of the movie , because this is the kind of churches that I go to ! Not afraid to let loose and praise God!!!
I've had this movie for years and have watched it a MILLION times

That ONE MOVIE where it was meant to appear a joke…But HIT HARD…by design. 😊😊😊😊
So true on so many levels.
Had the great pleasure of seeing this great guy at Newcastle..absolutely brilliant...
My mom saw James Brown live in concert once and I will always envy that.
The dancing is outrageous!!
1 of my favorite movies of all times. 😊
Saw this in a drive-in when I was six. If you knew me that would explain a lot.
I don't think I had ever noticed the blonde lady in the choir until today.
I noticed Chaka Khan in the choir! ❤
I forgot about this scene. I always remember Aretha Franklin singing “ think”
This is my first church liken to this exactly and my baptism in Brixton Hallelujah
Wow how fantastic, a brilliant way to praise the Lord, God bless you
Psalm 149:3. "Praise the Lord with singing and dancing!"
I do believe EVERYONE in that church "SAW THE LIGHT" that day!!🎹🎵🎶🤗❤🙏
James brown would certailny bring in the holy spirit r.i.p. godfather of soul.
R I P the great John Belushi
I am 3/4 of a Century old. Love this❤❤❤❤❤
Greatest movie ever made.
Face it guys, God has a huge sense of humour, he is a true Lord, he wants us to have fun nuts...very sad that we have to lose those who make us feel so good but such shootings raise them immortal, we could never forget such great performers...ever🎉❤🎉
If God didn't have a sense of humor, I would no longer be on earth!
God wants us to come to Him as servants to become His sons. These depictions and their real life counterparts, while humorous, are divorced from the church that Christ established.
Look at what an Eastern Orthodox divine liturgy looks like to see what true worship of God entails.
Gotta say this. With a couple of tears. No guilt trip.
The people that made this kind of music were living under the most horrific of realities in a country where everyone else was free but them!
Singing and dancing were one of the only undisturbed activities they could participate in.
“Let them sing at night so they could work in the morning.”
This song “The old landmark” was written by a guy born in 1897.
He saw rough days.
Our story is nothing short of a miracle.
We became president of that very same country that once held us hostage.
Amazing.
Mr Brown understood raised in the Bible belt all star studded movie this was not new to them.they had it they understood where blessings came from😊😊
This is what's known as being ON FIRE FOR THE LORD. What an incredible movie scene. On so many levels...
What a scene. I watch it from time to time, and every time I see it, it is like the first time. I love the Blue Brothers movie, but this and the Somebody to Love scenes are to me, the best in a great movie.
I am an atheist, but this is church I would go to.
You have definitely seen the light, you have soul. 🌞☮️❤️🤝🌞 ✌️😎✌️🏴🇬🇧 Aug twenty ✨️ four ✨️
Listen …many Bk people STOPPED believing in a god but went to church BECAUSE of the strong culture. This was meant to be comical but it hit hard in ways they writers and producers didn’t expect being outside the community. Since then they’ve made it comical in ways that ARE DEGRADING and disrespectful. They LEARNED from this movie. 😢😢
Do you see the light!
@@Thekulprit92 through the darkness of this world 🌎 there is light that shines somewhere 🙏❤️

That was no stunt double; John Belushi actually did those flips and cartwheels.
I saw them tour way back in the eighties - he executed those acrobatics flawlessly.
It was a daaammm good show all around. 👍
Yes he did.
