Right there with you. Not looking for scratching the hell out of a brand new truck.
Thanks for watching and helping me not think I'm crazy about keeping it nice for as long as possible.
Keep it up bro loving the content. I’m unfortunately a flat lander down in southern Texas. But once my zr2 arrives I’ll make sure to drive to western Texas to hit up some trails. Maybe head up to some northern states in the future. Ima be subscribing to keep up with what ya got going on. Hopefully no more glitches.
Thanks for watching! That flat land should give you all the mpg's.
Twi weekends back i took my brand new Colorado zr2 down a very narrow forestry road in the northeast tennessee mountains by Greeneville called rich mountain. That forestry road crossed a about 2' deep stream in 3 different places. It was a fun drive.
Sounds like a good time! Stream crossings are fun as long as you make it. We have some hidden rocks in ours out here that like to cause problems sometimes.
The trails here in SoCal are narrow too and have lots of places to scratch the paint. I had a '17 ZR2 and loved it, but in 2021 the local RAM dealer really wanted my ZR2 so much I had to sell it to them with no money loss on the ZR2. I am thinking about getting a new ZR2 again.
Thanks for watching! We specifically got the mid-size because of our narrow trails. I'd hate to see a full size truck try some of these. I would say that you'll probably love a new ZR2 if you liked your 2017. They are pretty nice this year!
LOVE THAT COLOR
Thank you! I wasn't sure about it at first but loved it once I saw it in person.
Do you have a link to the rear seat cover you use for the dog and your review of it?
Thanks for watching! Here is a link to the product.

You guys going to Baja in that rig? We are highly considering
We definitely will be at some point. We're in the works of figuring out which camper/topper to get right now. It's probably a slim chance for this winter with the house build but we're always trying.
Favorite color!
I wasn't sure about it but luckily it was my wife's top choice. It sure looks good in person! Thank you for watching.
Smart move. Hard to take $52k and just go to smashin and scrapin. My biggest issue isn't so much buying an expensive offroad pickup and utilizing the suspension and goodies it comes with, it's cutting a tire on a sharp rock just enough that it doesn't go flat at the time, but once it heats up doing 80 on the interstate that cut causes a blowout that I can't control at highway speed and its game over..
Thanks for watching! Slashing sidewalls is never fun. I usually try to pick a tire with decent sidewall protection when I'm replacing them. I'm not sure what I'll use on this truck yet. The truck is now dirty, not brand new, and more prepared to go further.
Ive seriously been considering a vinyl wrap to help prevent scratches. But 3k is a rought pill to swallow
Thanks for watching! I've been having those some thoughts myself but am too cheap. Maybe someone will sponsor us with one. I'm even fine with logos if needed. 🤪
@@DrifterJourney yeah let them know I'm looking for a sponsor too 🤪
I'll keep you in mind when they start lining up.
Nice Video! I agree with you on that narrow trail, I would also not want to take my truck there.
Thanks for watching! We appreciate the support about not scratching it up yet. I would have felt better about going further if there were any places to turn around.
Glad you 2 are having fun with it! It is a shame seeing these purchased by guys that just daily drive them and they never leave pavement lol. Come on down to Utah lol. Moab is waiting!
We have been using a rented Silverado to haul and tow, as we work on our new property, and it is very useful! I really like the V8 in it! I'm eager to test drive a ZR2 Silverado and a Sierra AT4X! Work truck capable of adventure!
Thanks for watching! We plan to use this truck as a truck. We're hoping to get a Moab trip in soon but need to find our camping gear. I guess that's one negative to living in a van and storing a bunch of your stuff.......we can't find things easily yet.
@@DrifterJourney I thought you are gonna sell the van and giving up on van life? Or you are waiting until you build your alternative to the Barndominiom you couldn't get? Lol that word makes me laugh.
I sold my 4Runner last week! Time for a new chapter to begin!
We did sell the van and will be building out the truck with a camper of some kind. Congrats on selling your rig!
@@DrifterJourney Actually a truck camper is exactly what we have decided! We are buying a Silverado ZR2 or Sierra AT4X. We checked out bed camper for a Tacoma, but it was a bit too small, just for our tastes. There are A LOT of excellent choices though!
No tire air down?
Thanks for watching! Things didn't get that serious yet. We'll air down when we find more difficult terrain. This was just us out for a weekend cruise.
What mpg are you averaging?
Thanks for watching! I think that's coming to a video very soon. Overall.....I'd say 18mpg. If I was just doing the state highway to and from town, I see 21 or so. I'm assuming results will vary a lot for flatlanders vs mountain driving (us) and how heavy you are on the gas. We're just happy to see higher than the 16mpg the window sticker shows.
@DrifterJourney thanks for responding. Love your truck!!!!
Thank you. We're pretty happy with it. We would be 100% in love with it if there weren't any small glitches like we've been experiencing.
Nice, enjoy!
Thank you for watching! We're having fun so far.
Get that ceramic coating. It will prevent 90% of scratches. It's worth it!
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll have to check it out.
Hey guys!
Hi there! Thank you for watching.
Please do NOT do ceramic coating as a couple folks here are stating. It’s an absolute waste of money. You can literally do your own coating for about $100 and the protection from scratches is the same as the polymers that these shops promote. Do not waste your money … tell these clowns to bugger off. 😡
Nice truck anyhow! 👍🏻
Thanks for watching! The ceramic coating wasn't really in my radar and then definitely isn't even a thought after I heard the price. I'll take the scratches! What product can you do on your own though? That might be worth looking into.
Baja = A+ Turbo sounds!
Thanks for watching! I still want to break it in a little more before I let it rip but it sure is fun so far.
Such a good looking truck!
So good that im scared to scratch it up. Thanks for watching!
have you considered doing PPF film?@@DrifterJourney
I've thought about a wrap and other ideas but ultimately know that I'm cheap and know that this is an adventure truck. I just need to ease into the scratches.
I’ve turned around on a bunch of trails that I know I could do if I wanted to beat the crap out of my rig. My trail rig is also my daily so not only do I have to drive it home it also needs to get me to work and beating the piss out of it isn’t worth it.
Thanks for watching! I'm glad that I'm not the only one that thinks this way. We're out to have fun and not wreck things. We're looking forward to finding some harder trails as we learn what the truck can do.
I’m sorry but you don’t even need to Activate 4 Wheel drive on that trail. My 4Runner can do that easy.
Thanks for watching. I don't think it would have made it in 2wd but could be wrong. Seems like 4 runner owners are coming to comment more than I expected (I just checked....I guess you commented twice). It definitely would have made it without struggle if I was willing to scrape it on a bunch of branches.
Yeah dude my Prius would crush it.
Hi Do you need some great lighting for your car to help you better driving, off-road? We're the pro auto lighting company for nearly 20 year and we're looking for sponsorship!
Hi and thank you for watching! We are always looking to add quality off-road lighting to our rigs. Feel free to email us at thedrifterjourney@gmail.com so we can discuss further.
Will do!@@DrifterJourney
Actually l send you an email! Looking forward to hear from you:)@@DrifterJourney
As a Colorado native, I've 4-wheeled all over Colorado and the Rocky Mountain West for over 5 decades, for both work and pleasure. This was not a tough trail at all. Sadly, I moved out of Colorado went it went fully leftist-Communist. I still have relatives there, but they are looking for an exit strategy. I don't even visit Colorado now. A beautiful state wrecked by the trust-funders and druggies. Colorado used to be a great place. Too bad it all changed.
Thanks for watching! Our little town isn't like that yet. If anything, it leans quite the opposite. Everything weighed into our decision about where to settle and we still found that Colorado works for us. We looked at Washington but they were passing some ridiculous gun laws that I wasn't too fond of.
@@DrifterJourney I watched many a rural Colorado town go full leftist over the years--about the only ones that are really staying even middle of the road are out on Colorado's Eastern Plains. And yes, the political bent affects public lands and 4-wheeling. Many Colorado areas that were excellent for 4-wheeling have seen trails closed by the dozens, not only because of out-of-state environmentalist lobbying, but also because leftist "transplants" lobbied both federal land management agencies AND local governments heavily to get trails closed. PS--Neighboring Wyoming, where I lived for several years, is much more sensible and conservative and is much more likely to stay that way than is Colorado.
Psst here's a secret to save you some time and hassle: it's like that literally in every mountain state. I'm 4th generation Montanan and will tell anyone thinking of moving here to escape what you just described to NOT bother. It's the exact same here. The only way to really escape is to move where it's not desirable to the masses yet, ie: no mountains and no clear streams. Plenty of places like that still exist that hold the values you speak of. Good luck.
My 4Runner would go through that trail like a hot knife through butter.
No doubt. Thanks for watching! I just couldn't bring myself to scraping a bunch of tree branches yet.
Music bugs my ears
Thanks for watching! We have a limited selection of music without paying outrageous royalties.
Couldn’t watch the whole thang.
We'll still give you 40 points for trying.
