    Are you team beauty (Mac) or beast (PC)?

    • @homemade_vancity

      Team Mac .. Spent 10 years with Windows and Dual-Boot Windows/Ubuntuu Linux .. With the exception of Linux OS (though MacOS is based on Debian Linux), I won't go back. Also, I'm Team Resolve too vs Premiere, for many of the same reasons. :)

    I feel this comparison would have more value if the PC components were more current. In particular, Intel started adding hardware encoders/decoders in the 11th gen CPUs with graphics that cover a wider range of h.264 and h.265 formats. I'm not an expert and could be wrong but I would think that could have some impact on their comparitive performance and be a more valid comparison.

      I'm so glad you pointed this out! I would love to build a PC with 2022 parts and put it against the Studio and other M1 (or M2 now!) chips. I'll have to start saving for some new PC parts now! The upgrades never end haha. Any build you'd like to see in particular? The 11th gen intel chips?

    • @markwornom1050

      @@keith-knittel Completely agree about the upgrades and one of the reasons I was happy to be with Apple for a while. I couldn't find a replacement for my iMac that I was happy with so I'll move back to Windows for a while. I would move straight to the 12th gen if you can source all of the components since the improvements seem worth it. Based on a recommended build from "Tech Notice" I went with a 12600K and RTX 3060 12gb. I found a prebuilt system on sale and bought it. Video production is only a hobby for me and this will suffice but you may need something more. In his posted benchmarks he shows that you can get some encoding/decoding assist from the built-in GPU to go with the discrete GPU for better performance. However, Davinci Resolve 18.0.1 won't even let me select the Intel GPU as a hardware option and defaults to the Nvidia card. In testing various export/deliver settings using h.264 and h.265, the Nvidia card did consistently produce the fastest result and usually the smallest files when compared with the Intel and Native settings although the results were sometimes close. Having been away from the WinTel world for a while I learned a lot from a couple of his videos. The time frame you're looking for is from 6-12 months ago. If you'd like, I can save you a little time and link them. Just let me know and I hope this helps.

    Hey, thank you for your great content! I'm a Premiere Pro user and I'm in the position of deciding which of these machines is the right choice for me, an i7 13th gen CPU PC or an m1 max mac studio. The question is: Does the MacBook really and insanely have less lag in daily usage and on the Premiere timeline? Is it a really lag-free machine compared to the PC? Does Premiere perform better and experience less crashes on the Mac studio?

    Great video. So excited for mine to arrive this week. One thing, “fast forward x1” is just playing the video at real time, it’s not fast forward. The first level of fast forward is x2 and the next bump is x4.

    • @keith-knittel
      @keith-knittel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the feedback - I meant that as pressing the fast forward button once, but I understand “1x” in the scheme of playback is confusing with real-time being “1x”. Will keep that in mind for the future

  • @area28
    @area28 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well, first thank you very much, this was exact the informations I was looking for. I have a 8770k Intel and an Nvidia 1090 TI, still a pretty good graphic card. I#m rendering with Davici Studio in UHD 60 fps DNX HQ - and it works well. Changing now makes no sense, but as you you say waiting if there's a new generation and one can buy the actual cheaper. Ok, the mac does not need that much power, it is small, like it, but I will wait and decide than.

  • @RadiantMediaEchuca
    @RadiantMediaEchuca ปีที่แล้ว

    I havent read all the comments, but playback and rewinding is taxing because your'e dealing with a compressed video format. In post production, we convert EVERYTHING to ProRes. yes, it's four times as heavy in terms of space usage but it kicks butt. Any pro editor should know this stuff. Not only is it capable of a much better colour space, it's not compressed so your system isn't bogging down essentially "unzipping" constantly. eww. H264 and H265 is for delivery. It's not a good codec for anything else.

  • @truthseeker6804

    based on my extensive research, the macs do best in prores exports, they suffer in h264 exports in premier against pc. even your older spec pc was tie with the m1 max, so the m1 max would lose to any modern pc for h264 export in premiere, but in davinci h264 the macs do much better than in premiere. so for pro res videos the new m1 series, for non pro res likely gonna get better results on the pc.

    • @Dolencd
      @Dolencd ปีที่แล้ว

      Makes sense for ProRes to be the best working codec on Mac since it's an Apple designed standard.

    Problem with the pc is this mac studio is not in the 8 or 10k range its starting at 2k range which given it performance is really compeling.

    You would need to switch to Resolve or FCP to get the most out of the Mac. Premiere is a dinosaur when it comes to optimization right now. Also, the main superpower of the M-family of chips is Pro-Res. If you use Pro-Res a lot M1-Max is a game changer.

    • @keith-knittel
      @keith-knittel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know, I really need to use Resolve or FCP - but I typically switch between systems and for now, premiere pro is the easiest for me to use between mac and PC. Especially helpful when collaborating with other videographers/editors. I wish FCP was cross-compatible because it seems like it chews through footage with ease!

    Which Liquid Cooler do you use on your PC and do the fans make noise while editing 4k videos?

    Who needs upgrades, I've a 128GB Mac Studio Ultra on my desk and I'm not planning to change it for years and years. With a PC I should build a noisy monster that sucks 1.2KW and heat my room and the performance would still be inferior.

    • @keith-knittel
      @keith-knittel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That is very true, but some people like the ability to upgrade over time instead of spending all that money upfront. I love my macs, but I also love tinkering and building PC's. There is just something to opening the case, slapping a hard drive in and booting it up and it working that's really nice. But it is SO power hungry

    • @TacticalPhoenixYT
      @TacticalPhoenixYT 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1
