    Is the M1 Max Mac Studio enough for you, or would you upgrade to the M1 Ultra? The M1 Max is enough for me and my workflows, just wish I would have purchased more storage!

    You said you're using the BASE MODEL STUDIO. My question would be this.. Would that stack of applications worked better if you had the 32 CORE GPU unit instead of the 24 Core GPU rather than upping the RAM from the basic 32Gig? I/m still choosing my Studio to buy at this time.

    Is your screen 4k or 1080p? I heard it is hard to have a good experience I'd you are using 4k non apple monitors. Because of tbe way apple scale from 5k to 2k and back to 4k...

      Hey there joraph, I’m on a 27 inch 2560x1440 Apple Cinema Display during the day and a 3440x1440 ultra wide monitor for these premiere pro tests, I haven’t done any testing to see if 2k vs 4K monitors make a difference. I wasn’t aware that would make such a difference!

    Hello Keith. I've been in the video production business for over 35 years now. Way before we had non linear editing. Anyway, when non linear editing started they recommended using external drives for editing video. Is that still a thing today as well? I am considering purchasing the very high end Mac Studio with the 8TBs of internal storage so I can use that internal SSD for video editing. Is that an ok thing now to do with better reliable drives (SSD) or do you recommend still doing the external drive(s)?

      Hey there Gary, Back in the day (and still!) I think it's a good idea to separate your system and application drive from your "Scratch" drives. Drive speeds are pretty quick these days, but for long term reliability if you're editing a lot of video - keeping these drives separate will ensure you're editing as fast as possible. I have my apps on my PC loaded to my NVME drive and edit on a separate internal or external SSD. For the mac studio, you're stuck editing on external SSD's... however with the mac studio.. this is one of the first times where I wish I would have maxed out my internal storage and the storage with the apple silicon is BLAZING fast. Faster than my NVME SSD's on my PC! I can't speak to the reliability over the years as I havent had the Studio for that long, but the speed is unmatched with my external samsung SSD's compared to editing off of the studios internal drive. It's costly to upgrade the internal storage, but it's QUICK! I hope this helps and sorry for the long-winded response!

    Do you think the M1 ULTRA is overkill for video editing and graphic design? Or is the MAX chip be more then enough to handle those tasks?

    • @keith-knittel
      @keith-knittel  ปีที่แล้ว

      I havent used the M1 Ultra, but the max has been strong enough for my video editing and graphic design. I've been using the m1 pro macbook pro and it's been handling everything I throw at it as well. The only thing I wish I upgraded was the internal hard drive space. There is never enough!

    I really appreciate the minimalist look of the Mac Studio...It's clear that Apple is doing away with the "modularity" model. I don't expect to see discrete GPUs, Sound cards etc from or for Apple Macs ever again. That makes sense. Legacy ports along with motherboard sockets, slots and connectors actually create a sustained performance bottleneck compared to the efficiency of the SoC design.....but yes, Apple can easily allow for Storage "upgrades" by letting users add Internal m.2 SSDs. At least one each in each "Pro"-designated Mac and a stack in a big enclosure like a Mac Pro mini-tower. The bit of power and cooling needed aren't a problem.They are so small, so fast, fairly inexpensive and just as easy to install as RAM. It won't be as fast as the native drive but it will work well and give the buyer more options when looking for a New/Next Mac

      I agree! I'd love to be able to just add storage and memory.. or even just storage! External drives are good in a pinch but don't like looking towards them for permanent solutions for storage. Easy to swap out if they fill up (just buy another one and plug it in) but they are also more unstable than the internal storage. And not as fast. I should have bought more storage off the bat!
