    U.S. citizens only are only required to have a valid state issued Driver's License or ID to travel to Saipan as long as the flight doesn't route thru a foreign country.

      You WILL find Situations here where You WILL NEED a Passport, I have had to show mine on Several Occasions. Job Interviews being one, Appointments at the SS Office being another, and they asked for it when I came through the Airport. Having one is going to Help you, not having one, could present some problems.

      I wanted to add one more thing about this, Technically you may be able to Enter Saipan without a Passport, that is true, However Most AIRLINES Require you to have a Passport or a REAL ID, This is "Airlines Policy" it has nothing to do with "The Law", an Airline is a Private Company, and they can make up whatever RULES they want, and THIS Particular Rule was put in place to Track Suspected Terrorists, so unless you are arriving by Boat, you might have a Problem getting on the Plane. Check with the Airlines before you book the Ticket.
      I try to get in the habit of providing GOOD advice instead of Bad Advice, and I worked in the Travel Industry for 14 Years before I started my TH-cam Channel. I would rather tell someone they Needed something, and then have them NOT need it, than to tell someone they DIDN'T need something, then have someone Demand it at the last Second and they are not Prepared.

    Mark, thank you for putting out this very good and informative video about what it is really like there. Your videos have sparked a serious interest in this old man's thoughts about relocating from the Atlanta area to Saipan. The summer heat and high humidity here might help me acclimate easier. It looks like you have a full year living there, rainy season, typhoon season, tourist season.
    Do you still feel like it is the best, most free place with a decent cost of living?

      I feel like Saipan is the best place in the U.S. to Live, the mainland U.S. is Insane, in Atlanta you recently just had a Psycho shooting people for no Reason and an Antifa Riot a few months back. We have none of that kind of there here at all. I think Saipan is the best place in America to raise kids, it is one of the safest places in the World, the Food is Healthier, the Air is Cleaner to breathe, less Stress, better protection from any Viruses, in an economic collapse, or Civil War, Saipan would be the best place in the World to be. The Cost of living is a little expensive, because the Electric Bills here are insane. The Food prices are high, the availability of American goods is not as good as many states. But aside from that, as long as I have a U.S. Passport Saipan will be my Homebase, I will travel many places, but Saipan is where I will come back to when I am taking a break from Traveling.

    Hi Mark, Sorry if you cover these things in the video -- I just started it, but will plan to watch it all -- but I have a couple of questions if I may: A US citizen is allowed to live and work in Saipan (or in Tinian, or in Rota), is that correct? If Yes, is there any kind of paperwork that is needed? And also if Yes, do you know if there are a good number of quality long-term rentals available in Saipan? Many thanks in advance! Eric

    • @marksawesomeadventures
      @marksawesomeadventures  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Currently the Answer to that Question (as I know it) is YES, U.S. Citizens are allowed to Live and Work in Saipan, Rota, and Tinian, however the way it is written in CNMI allows them to Change that at any time if they wish, and it looks like they may be leaning towards changing those Laws, so that you need a Permit to Work in Saipan. But as I said for now, Currently, it is Legal to Live and Work in Saipan as a U.S. Citizen, there are no Jobs on Tinian and Rota, except for working on the U.S. Military Base in Tinian which in that case you would need to Apply through the U.S. Federal Government as a Contract Worker. This is why I mentioned in my Video that you need a U.S. Passport when you come here, because that is the Document everyone wants to see when you are doing anything here, Applying for a Job, going to Social Security, Veterans Assistance, the first thing everyone asks for is your Passport. Only AFTER you have your CNMI ID does that become acceptable over your Passport, but most people still want to see your Passport for everything.
      As far as the Long Term Rentals question, there are LOTS of Apartments available here, but the Standard of Living here is Lower than in the U.S. so most of the Apartments look like Mexico not the U.S., a U.S. Grade Apartment is going to Cost you at LEAST $350 a Month, and could cost as much as $1000 a Month depending on how nice you want it. LOCATION is THE MOST IMPORTANT thing to consider when you get here. Start looking at the Map on Google now and figure out where you want to Live. Because if you do not think about that FIRST you are going to create a whole lot of Problems once you get here. Are you going to Buy a Car? That's going to cost money, that's going to Cost Gas, if you are NOT planning on Buying a Car how are you going to get around? It Rains all the Time in Monsoon Season such as right now, we only get a break from the Rain every couple days.
      Another thing to consider is even IF they have Jobs available here, does not necessarily mean they are going to HIRE YOU for them. This is a Slave Labor Culture, you really need to understand that. If you don't YOU WILL Once you get here.
      What that means is all the Employers here are used to hiring Filipino Contract Workers who are willing to accept being Abused by their Employers.
      The SAME EMPLOYERS who are Employing people Now, STILL WORK HERE from the Time when they were only Paying Workers $3.00 an hour. The SAME PEOPLE! So they still treat people the SAME WAY they did when they were Paying the $3.00 an Hour. The Filipinos are willing to Tolerate this Abuse, because the Employer threatens to send them back to the Philippines if they don't accept it. They will not have the same kind of Leverage with a U.S. Citizen, but they are going to treat you the same way they treat the Filipinos. The only exception to this is if you happen to get a Job in the Government, but all the Chamorros get hired for those Jobs and Rarely if ever do they ever hire an American from the U.S. Mainland. Which is WHY I always say in my Videos THERE ARE NO JOBS HERE!
      Even if they HAVE one, you are not going to want to Work it. Minimum Wage is $7.50 an hour, and no matter what Job you get, it's not going to pay much more than that.

    • @marksawesomeadventures
      @marksawesomeadventures  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I Mentioned this in my Video and in some of my Comments, I Recommend that you get a Passport. The Officials here on Saipan, (Customs, Government) Loosely consider Saipan an "International Place" even though on the books it is a U.S. Territory part of the U.S., many people will want to see your Passport, because there are SO MANY people here who ARE NOT U.S. Citizens, when dealing in Official Matters, everyone is going to want to see your Passport. When you go to File your Taxes they want to see your Social Security Card. Most States Adopted the "Real ID" card, and Technically you CAN Fly using the Real ID Card. But if you do not have the Real ID Card, the Airlines may Require you have a Passport, even if the Customs here on Saipan do not Require a Passport, the Airlines are a Private Company and they can make up what ever Rules they want to. And they usually Require a Passport to keep track of Suspected Terrorists.

    Is it better than Philippines?

    • @marksawesomeadventures
      @marksawesomeadventures  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It depends on what you mean by "Better" is it SAFER than the Philippines? YES, can guys pick up Women like in the Philippines? NO. Can a single Woman from the U.S. come over here and find a man pretty easy? Absolutely! There are more Guys than Girls on this Island because all the College age Women leave this Island and go someplace else and never return. So any Woman from the U.S. could have a Harem of Guys if she wanted them. Most of the Services here are more Expensive than the Philippines, the Electric here is insane, I usually pay around $100 a month for Electric. Food Prices at the Store are more Expensive than the Philippines, here a Package of 4 Steaks can cost you $60 a Bag of Frozen Mixed Veggies costs around $5 Eggs is down to around $3 a Doz, Gas is about $5 I find it hard to live here on any less than $1200 a month, if you drive a Car it will cost you more. And that doesn't include eating out at the Restaurants every day, I am only living on Fried Rice everyday. Coffee Costs about $23 a Can and all they have is Foldgers, nothing else. JoTen has Starbucks Occasionally but that's the only Store on the Island that sell decent Coffee everyone else only has Foldgers.
      So DO I Consider Saipan "Better" than the Philippines? No, I would rather be in the Philippines, because the Philippines has more to offer me, at a Cheaper Price. But if you ask any Filipino that lives here if they would rather be HERE or in the Philippines, every single one of them will tell you they would rather Live HERE than in the Philippines, but mostly because they can make ten Times more money Working here than in the Philippines. Also for the Filipinos it is kind of a Higher Status to live here than in the Philippines, when they are here they can Live like an American even if they are Not a Legal Citizen of the U.S. so all Filipinos will pick Saipan over Philippines any day. For an American Citizen who wants to Live in the U.S. Saipan is Better than the Philippines, because all the U.S. Government Offices are on Saipan. A U.S. Citizen can Legally live and Work here. An American Citizen has to follow Philippines Immigration Laws, and that Limits your Stay in the Philippines Legally. So for an American, Saipan is better to live Long Term than the Philippines. Now if I am a Swinging Single Guy looking to Pick up Chicks, NO!! Saipan is not the place to come! There are hardly NO Single Women here of Legal age. But in comparison to the Maldives, most people who Go to the Maldives go there with a Partner already, they don't go to the Maldives to pick up Girls, so Saipan IS Better than the Maldives. 😁

      @@wasatchm YES!!! I need Air Con, there are many Locals and Filipinos who Live without Air Con, I have one Friend who came from the U.S. Mainland who decided he liked Cheap Rent so he pays $150 per Month with NO AC. But that's not living well in my opinion. You sweat your butt off six months out of the year here.

      thanks for the reply. does it take much effort to change ones tax domicile from a state to the mariana islands? is it true they just take 10 percent of your income? and the IRS is no longer in the picture?

      @@wasatchm One of the reasons I Moved here was to Legally Relocate my Business and Financial, because I was in California, and I want no Association at all with California anymore, so I came here.
      To Officially Change Residence, you need to Cancel your Voters Registration in the State you Left, and Register to Vote in your New Location, also Rent a Place and get a New Drivers License. Also you will have to Move your Bank Accounts out of the State you are Leaving, because they can still trace your Money back to a Particular State, then you're on the Hook for the Tax Laws for that State. I didn't know anything about the Tax Laws here when I got here, but I just talked to my Tax people here a few weeks ago, and they told me no one is required to even FILE Federal Tax here. (This is not Tax Advice!! I am not Implying that anyone not pay their Taxes!)
      I am still learning about the Tax Laws here, when I have a Clearer Picture of what they are, I will talk about it on my Other Channel
      "Mark Evans" Channel.
      But YES to Answer your Question you CAN create a better Tax environment HERE than anywhere else in the U.S.

    Are the people of Saipan US citizens?

    • @marksawesomeadventures
      @marksawesomeadventures  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      YES, Technically, but CNMI has their OWN Constitution, they are Classified as a U.S. Territory, NOT A STATE! The people of Saipan and the CNMI cannot Vote in U.S. Elections, they cannot Vote for the U.S. President. They CAN Serve in the U.S. Military, (from what I Understand,..not TAX Advice) Saipan residents do not have to File for Federal Income Tax, they have their OWN Tax Laws, their OWN Constitution which has Authority over U.S. Laws, although the U.S. as much as possible tries to maintain Legal Authority over Saipan and the CNMI. If you Break a U.S. Law you will still go to Jail here. They have an FBI Office, but there are some U.S. Laws they do not Enforce here such as Chicken Fighting for Example.
      For more detailed information read CNMI Government Websites.

      80% of the People who LIve in Saipan are Citizens of the PHILIPPINES, they have Philippines Passports, NOT U.S., they are here as CONTRACT WORKERS, NOT U.S. Citizens. The people who are BORN here, are Considered U.S. Citizens.
      The Majority of the People who Vacation here are from KOREA Not from the U.S. they have KOREAN Passports. There are also a Huge amount of Chinese here FROM CHINA, with CHINESE Passports, NOT U.S., there are many U.S. Citizens here, BUT the Majority of the people who Live here ARE NOT U.S. Citizens. I wanted to Clarify that.

      No, as I mentioned in other Comments, all the College age Women leave Saipan and never return, Combine that with Thousands of Male Contract Workers that come to Saipan to Work from the Philippines, and you Literally have Thousands more Men than Women here, and so most of the Women here are not Available. So any Single Women who ARE here, they usually hide them inside Cars and Houses so no one ever sees them.

      Okay, Why did I pick Saipan instead of Guam? Because I lived on Guam for 2 1/2 Years stationed there with the U.S. Air Force, then I went back and lived there another 6 months Worked at the Hilton, so I know what Guam is like already. You have a large percentage of the population (On Guam) who wishes they were in LA California, (Yo MTV Gangsta Types) just for one example, in the middle of the last Typhoon, everyone is worried about their Houses being blown away and some "Yo MTV Gangsta" Clown on Guam shot at a Car three or four times in a drive by Shooting, IN THE MIDDLE OF A TYPHOON!!
      Saipan is different in that there are more Asians on Saipan than Guam, There is less Crime than on Guam, most of the people who live here are from Philippines, China, Korea, Thailand, Russia, and the U.S. , and the Islanders, and most of them are not thinking about doing driveby shootings like they do on Guam. When I was on Guam in 2013 a guy jumped out of a Car and stabbed 6 Tourists, and I think most of them died. One night I was walking down the street, and I saw a bunch of Trukies fighting with Bolo Knifes trying to kill each other! We don't have that kind of Psycho stuff going on over here in Saipan. When a group of people Glamorize Music and ideas that Glamorize Violence, then your Whole Society becomes Crazy. The Culture here on Saipan is more Peaceful, I have to say I have talked with a lot of Teachers and I have been inside many of the Classrooms here so I can see what the Teachers here are doing to TEACH the Children here the Correct Mindset, so they don't get involved with those people who Glamorize Violence. The Churches here are also very Active in taking care of the Community, and teaching the kids the right way to Think. They don't have as tight knit of a Community in Guam as they do here on Saipan.
      So you might think Guam is Better? For What? The Beaches on Saipan are nicer than Guam. The people on Saipan are Nicer than Guam, the Food here is better than on Guam, if you are thinking about going to Clubs that blast Yo MTV Gangsta Music? Then yeah, Guam is where you want to go. They don't blast Yo MTV Gangsta Music here. Most of the people here like Mellow Music, makes for a Mellow Peaceful Society. If you are Looking to Chase Women? Then YEAH Philippines IS better than Saipan, because most College age Women leave Saipan and never come back, so if you are looking to chase Women, Saipan is not the place to come. But the Title of the Video above is Why is Saipan BETTER than the Maldives, most people who go to the Maldives already have a Girl, so no one is going to the Maldives to chase Women. And Families are going to Like Saipan more than the Maldives for many reasons I point out in my Video. I hope this answered your question.

    Why do you keep comparing this place to the Maldives?

      @marksawesomeadventures  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you watch the Video, I explain that In the Video. That is the TOPIC of the Video. There are lots of Rich People with MONEY going to the Maldives, the VIDEO is ABOUT WHY they should come HERE Instead. It's about Trying to help the Economy of Saipan, bringing those Tourists HERE instead of going there. I thought it was kinda self explanatory if you watch the Video, but I guess I needed to talk about it more for some people. 😁

      @@marksawesomeadventures Thanks for the response. I'm a mainland US citizen and I will retire in a few years with an income of a little over $2,000 a month. I was looking to initially retire in Japan, but they have no retirement visas, three months and you have to leave. Then I started looking at these US territories like American Samoa and Guam, but they seemed very expensive.
      Is there affordable housing on the island? The cost of food seems to be the most expensive thing I've sen in your videos. The meat prices are absurd.
      Is English the primary language on the islands? I am also a veteran, is there a military base on the island?
      Thanks for your videos, subbed.
