Lowering my Spitfire as much as possible! (1in lowering block)

    "Bachelor's Lean" is a thing. The car is driven 99% of the time with only one person, and that person is larger than the usual passenger if there is one, so it sags on the driver side. Depending on the type of leaf springs, you can swap them, but double check before swapping sides as sometimes the parts don't allow it. I just removed a 3" lowering kit from my Midget, it was far too low for my fat butt and with bad shocks, was bottoming out. So, replaced the oil in the shocks, removed the lowering kit, and it rides much higher, not too high though.

      Absolutely. But my particular car is leaning towards the passenger. I refreshed the leaf spring, didn’t solve it. So I’m lead to believe it’s a front coil over issue

    you have to drive the car forward and then back about 15 feet and it will settle down.

      I rolled the car forwards and backwards a bit and it settled. Can’t really “drive” in its current state haha.

    The height at the rear is affected by the length of the coil springs at the front, plus/minus any spacers above the front springs, as well as the weightt of the driver.

      They’re from a company called appliance racing wheels. I don’t believe they’re in business anymore. Unfortunately someone modified these and they’re no longer useable

    I bought a new set of MK2 springs to lower my 76's front height, defiantly better handling and looks better.

    Hello, as most are saying the spring tends to settle on the drivers side. I was wonder if you had removed it and perhaps put it back in the wrong way round? Either way it's probably best to replace the spring any way. Good job, thanks for the content, and wishing you the best.

      Yes on that. I actually bought a new rear spring but it didn't have a directional arrow and of course I put it in backwards. I took it back out and reversed it and problem solved.

      The leaf springs will outlast the rest of the car by a few centuries. They never wear out. The sagging happens because the rubber pucks between the springs wear away. They can be easily and cheaply replaced with nylon pucks to restore the leaf springs to brand new condition.

      @@NicholasJKaufman I've got some of the white nylon 'pucks' (disks) ready to install on mine. 👍 I only want to clean, treat, paint and replace the shackles on my leaf before reinstalling it. (Mk3) 😉👌

    if its not sitting level, you prob need new shocks

      This isn't true in a Spit - they tend to sit lower on the driver side due to the leaf-spring being traverse and wearing faster under the load of the driver.

      @@chaseincats shocks shouldn't impact ride height at least with a standard set-up - they're just supposed to dampen spring oscillation - the spring takes the strain. I guess uprated shocks might? The point I was trying to make is it's rare for Spits to sit level unless the rear springs is fairly new.

      triumph spitfire's lean on the drivers side sometimes. it's called bachelor lean. sometimes it's the leaf spring and more times than not.... it's the front springs. swap those around and the lean will improve. you can also turn the leaf spring left to right. shocks won't fit it.... unless they are very stiff kyp charges shocks.... but shocks aren't actually fixing the cause of the lean. swing spring spitfires 1971 onwards suffer from bachelor lean more than the fixed spring cars do.
