    Hi again Graham,
    I am thoroughly enjoying these videos and in particular the modified rear spring set up. Looking forward to seeing the next installment and actual fitment of the modified parts in place. To be honest I haven't seen these before and am very impressed with your perseverance to get things done properly. Something people of our vintage take pride in. Take care my friend and kind regards to you and your family.

      I’m so pleased that you’re enjoying these series of videos John, it’s difficult to know what to include and not to include because it could become quite boring seeing me do everything so I have to edit the video to what I think would be of interest. This will be my final car build because of my advancing years so I want this one to be a testimony of my work and so want it done properly no matter how long certain things take to do, and so there is no ultimate rush to finish this and get it on the road. The biggest thrill I will get will be starting it up for the first time and I’m hoping that will be before next April/May when the body should be arriving - wish me luck! 👍🏻👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. ……..Graham

    Thanks for these videos and your careful explanations. Don’t worry about background noise, I’m sure we can cope 😊.
    I built an RMB Gentry in the 80’s but had to sell as an ‘almost completed project’ when child no.2 and a house move came along 😪 my biggest regret ever - and I’ve had a few 😊. Mine was 1.6 Mk1 Vitesse based, however the crank was beyond saving and they were like hens teeth back then even, so I switched to a Spitfire engine - the reverse of your process! I have recently bought a ‘nearly there’ Vitesse based Spartan (second best in the looks department) and I am back where I left off in 1989, though I have someone else’s problems to sort out! All great fun though. I look forward to seeing your meticulous progress. Thank you.

      Many thanks Peter and sorry for the late reply, I only saw it after looking back over the video. A Spartan should be good fun to finish off, at least you can finish it off to how you want it to be. I think the Gentry’s have changed over the years of different ownerships especially lately, the body for mine will be delivered in about April or May and this version is going to have all rolled edges to the fibreglass panels to keep in compliance with the safety aspect required these days which I think (hope) will make it look slightly neater as regards appearance. Interesting times ahead for both of us! 👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. ………….Graham

      Thanks Mark, I drove a Triumph Herald for a few years and took it all the way over to Europe - France, Belgium, Germany, Austria and all the way back again without an issue - I never ended up in a bush or wall ! 😂. I think if you know how to drive these cars then there won’t be any issues with the rear end but at least I’m putting on a modified rear leaf spring and thicker front ARB which should help things should I get too enthusiastic! 😉 I have to admit at not being a big fan of the MGB, the shape just doesn’t do it for me but that’s what makes the would go round - choices! Good decision to go with the new rear leaf spring and poly bushes. It will make a great difference to the ride once the car is completed. Nice to hear you will be re-chroming the carb intake filter cover. That will look great when it has all been fitted. Looks like you have a lot of cleaning and painting of parts to do, but they will all look like new again, once everything is in place. Keep up the good work my friend, you are doing a good job so far.
    Cheers for now mate.

      The new revised rear ‘swing spring’ was in my opinion an important replacement, along with a thicker front anti roll bar then that will help prevent the rear wheels from kicking in under hard cornering. Yes, lots of things to clean up and paint but that’s good as I find that job very therapeutic, I quite enjoy it and as you say, once complete then it will make for a good looking rolling chassis. Cheers for now mate. …………Graham

    Graham, That was very interesting. Flash back! Since you have Stromberg carburettors, you will need Borg and Beck shoes, pads and clutch plate to keep up the quality. Back in my goforing days these were the names of choice! Great watch. Regards Stephen.

    Blimey Graham your going to be on first name terms at rimmer brothers lol personally I would get a set of referb calipers in fact as brakes go buy every thing new where possible, the discs on the other hand don't look too bad and if there is anyone near you with a lathe see if they can mill the surfaces for you ? Anyway I'm really enjoying this build and yes you will swap and change your mind on a few options for me it was engine and lights but still at the chassis stage at the minute lol.

      I know Brian, I’m always on their site (which has been down for nearly a week now! 🤬) but there are many other sites which cater for Triumphs so all is not lost. As regards the callipers then I will be getting new (not recon) callipers, the ones I got were too far gone but I mainly wanted the vertical link and steering links so not a problem. As regards the discs then I will be getting drilled and grooved EBC discs with Green Stuff pads, they don’t leave that nasty black brake dust everywhere and are damn good pads - I used that combination on both my Audi TT’s. Glad your enjoying the build, that’s the main thing. 👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. …………Graham

      That would explain 50% of going backwards through a wall - the other 50% is that he was going too fast for the corner and for the car too! 😂😂. So many accidents like that in the early days, Triumph had to do something as the sales were really dropping. Cheers for now mate. …………Graham

    When it comes to putting the poly bush back in I find it easy enough to just manipulate the rubber part in by hand and then use a ratch n style clam to force the steel pin into the bush it's a fair bit quicker and less clumsy that the threaded bush tool . Even better than that you can buy poly bushes that are allready cut in half to make it easy to push in from either side

    Hi ya Graham. “ Where’s the beef?” John’s bringing it this weekend. My thinking is, if one is going to build a car, it might as well be the one one really wants. Thanks for the tutorial on the silicone bushes (sp) compared to the rubber ones. Obviously the better choice. I like the swing spring on the leaf springs. A nice improvement. The air box unit is interesting. Off with the old, on with new. I look forward to your next update. Two things…..the little amount of extraneous noise did not bother me. And…..you need to get yourself a cushy pad for your knees and bum. The colder weather will be on you soon. And that concrete will be like ice. Take care. See ya.

    • @mygentrybuild1974

      No beef at all Norman, I ordered a Gentry which was Triumph Spitfire based and Jon duly delivered. I then changed my mind and wanted a Vitesse based so he is delivering the Vitesse differential - I have everything else. If I’m going to change my mind over the power train and running gear then this is the time to do it rather than later on which is exactly what I’ve done. I do have a cushion but I’m used to working on the floor and there is no way I will be working in the garage in the freezing cold - when it’s that cold then the second hobby comes into play - Lakeside, my model railway which is always at 18 degrees no matter what the weather is doing outside! 👍🏻. Hi Graham, you're flying there with the build. I came across, by accident, a video of the replacement of the plate in the leaf spring. You may have seen it or maybe that is the way you are doing yours. Anyway here is the link for your reference. It is only just under 5 minutes. th-cam.com/video/RVLWGEFwxo0/w-d-xo.html ... Ian

    • @mygentrybuild1974
      @mygentrybuild1974  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ian and yes, I’ve seen that video and that was exactly how I replaced the complete new rear leaf spring, it was a bit of a bugger to compress it all but doing it in stages made it easier. The ‘swing spring’ with the pivot in the middle is quite different to the standard spring and has already reduced the negative camber I originally had so that’s great. I’m starting on the front suspension now and getting the new motor mounts fabricated so it’s all going together very nicely so far. 👍🏻👍🏻 Cheers for now mate. ………….Graham
