      Yet every year he got better! Mentioning someone’s past doesn’t mean shyt! So not sure what that has to do with anything! Also him being picked close to last in the first doesn’t mean anything either! It’s players in the second round doing better than 1st round selections. Cough… “Jimmy Buttler.”
      How many guards you run into that play D at a top teir! Along with dropping 21 a game and getting 8 boards and 9 assist! Not to mention 2 steals a game! Murray also improved his midrange and isn’t like he can’t shoot the 3! Marcus Smart is just now becoming a better 3pt shooter! Along with Lonzo! This was dumb bruh!

So he was openly going to wait for Free Agency to demand a Max Contract. Slightly off the topic, but the league should really revisit the supermax. It should be performance based, from regular max to a bonus oriented supermax. Stars can already ask for a trade anyways. So making it a "reward" for performance may force both the stars and the team to have a better performance and entertainment value. And not counting the "super" part of the max contract towards the cap enables team to create a more competitive team.

    • @michaelconstantinemiranda2352

    • @michaelconstantinemiranda2352
      @michaelconstantinemiranda2352 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The problem is the percentage of the supermax is too much. 25% a quarter of a team's cap space is given to a single player. I have no problem giving that to the likes of Giannis, Embiid, Curry and Jokic, but to give that amount of money to a fringe all-star to a second tier star is just putting your team in purgatory. They should put tiers on these max contracts

    • @chrischancellor7372
      @chrischancellor7372 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe the supermax is performance based in that it requires all-star selections and/or All NBA selections. The supermax does then function as bonus oriented version of the max deal.
      I'm not an expert on the CBA though and do agree that the league should revisit the idea.

    Ngl I think this trade kinda works. I mean Trae Young would finally have help in offense and Murray is the perfect 2 guard for him. The entire offense is not only gonna run through him atleast unlike the last season where we know it ended up badly. Since the Play-in up until to the playoffs against the Heat he has the most possession and shots which resulted to the Heat heavily lock him up. But now paired with an also Point Guard who's good in scoring inside the field and reliable on offense Trae would finally had help in him and lessen the burdens on his shoulder carrying Atlanta on offense. Additionally they really need an athletic guard that is good at defending and someone that's gonna run through the basket and score, the opposite of Trae Young's playstyle since Trae is not that athletic and bad on defense and since Dejounte is not that good at shooting Trae is gonna fill up that void. Trae scoring outside hitting threes meanwhile Dejounte is gonna score inside the paint is like marriage it's finest. This creates a fine dynamic between the two kinda like Dame and McCollum. It's a really big plus for Trae and the Hawks since their Forwards are Lazy af especially John Collins, Not defending and closing up properly and relying heavily on Trae to run their team and just watch him run the offense frozen to their place, Murray I think would fill that void that their forwards are lacking. Imagine Murray at 2 and Trae running the offense would be lit af and I think they're gonna get along well. Really excited to see what will happened to them next season and how well or bad they play hopefully it goes just the way I imagined them to be

    I'm a Spurs fan through and through, since 1993. I also was raised in Atlanta, so I pull for the Hawks too. This is a perfect trade for BOTH teams imho. Dejounte wasn't going to lead the Spurs anywhere worthwhile for their standards, so for them to get all those future assets and cap relief is a brilliant, forward-thinking move for San Antonio. No, Murray was never worth a supermax deal and apparently, according to reports about him and his deplorable agent Rich Paul's thinking, didn't want to re-sign in SA anyhow. As for the Hawks side of things, pairing Young with Murray and their young core (now sans Huerter) is a smooth short-term move to push for a Ch'ip ASAP.

    Tanking? The Spurs better be careful going down THAT road. Right now they are still fresh from leaving a dynasty of championships. Yes, it's been over 8 years since their last chip but keep in mind, they have been perceived league wide as still having a "winning mentality" or as the fan base call it the "Spurs way". It is NOT EASY to create that culture.
    This move from the Spurs will create YEARS of perennial losing which WILL affect the fan base, free agents and the players. You'll become NBA purgatory. Any "winning" culture will become history. Unless, you're a big market (New York, Chicago), you can withstand it but small market? Be careful.

      Spurs got Duncan when they tank and west is gonna be stacked next season and I doubt there making the playoffs, only solution is the spurs rebuliding or tanking. many of their core guys left the team possibly Pop retiring. Can`t live off the past.

    You NAILED this video! The Spurs are an organization that had one (rising) star surrounded by a lot of young diamonds in the rough. It would make no sense for them to pay him a max contract, let alone a super max. For the Hawks, this is about as good of an acquisition as they were going to get this year. Murray helps make up for Trae's GLARING defensive weakness and is a play maker. They are locked into Trae until 2027 and if this experiment shows potential this year, they can lock in their backcourt for a while. Potentially paying Murray later makes more sense than getting locked in to paying Gobert (who is as much of an offensive liability as Trae is a defensive one) now.

    It's starting to look like the Spurs started to see some issue with DJM that they didn't like. I think DJM thought he was the face of the franchise. His response to drafting Primo was the start. They traded him before there was any public situation like what's going on with DJM now. In my opinion, you only have to be bitten by a snake once to go in the opposite direction when you come across another.

    I think the Atlanta Hawks will be a force sooner than later. Dejounte will help, they already have good players, and I'm sensing AJ & Tyrese will be a part of something special in Atlanta. One's got character, pedigree & self-styled offense that works and the other has serious shutdown capabilities. Are these 2 as good a pair of draft picks as Ivey & Duren for the Pistons? We'll find out. But I wouldn't be too surprised if they hoist the Larry O'Brien before Detroit does.

    Im not mad about the trade happening as much as im mad about what we traded him for. Picks are a wild swing and they don't have an impact on the team for years,we should have asked for a young guy with similar value like Maxey or Simmons (from the Blazers not the guy that sits out games). Or at least Hunter from the hawks

      I dunno. This vid is compelling. 3 1sts, maybe a 4th, plus you save tons of cash? The savings alone could be used on a Free Agent at the appointed time (years down the line). As for the Hawks, they must think they're trending upward from an already .500+ team

    Really surprised by this take - have you changed your mind about the draft? You used to say that "9/10 times the team that gets the all star wins the trade" and "draft is heavily luck based". Spurs haven't changed their odds for that 2023 1st pick, besides them being able to tank better. I think they were able to sell as high as possible, which is great for them, but I was expecting the take that the Hawks will be amazing, these picks will mean nothing and the spurs just lost their all star young pg best contract in the league for 2 more years for picks in the 20s, and pick swap that will not matter.
