    I love Chelsea. Literally every album of hers is different from the last. She’s a queen.

    Gotta say, I love Chelsea Wolfe. Her style of gothic rock can slip a little more heavily towards the ambient/shoegaze end of things at times, wrapping us listeners up in a blanket of fuzz with some foggy percussion rattling around in the back like here in Maw. Personally, as someone who adores ambient and drone and shoegaze, she's a heavy presence in my late night productivity playlists, but they're definitely not going to be everyone's cup of tea. Sometimes it's just not the right setting, but sometimes it's also just not the right fit, so I get Manny not being into this one, even if I love it.
    Justin, you're right in that there's not a lot of acts out there that sound like her and her band...they definitely fit a bit of a niche, although I think if you like her, you might like Portishead (a heavy, heavy influence on her, even if they lean in a different direction, genre-wise).
    This is a strong 4.2 for me

      Thanks Walrus! I actually tweeted about Portishead the other day; I really like them as well.

      Chelsea is super and Abyss is a brilliant album. This music has to be enjoyed with right state of mind and as a whole album. This is not song driven music at all.

    The voice reminded me of Bjork in some parts, I enjoy this type of music, I'd give it a 3.5, enjoyed quite a bit

    Great call with recommending Iron Moon - a standout song on a fantastic album. And Scrape on the album Hiss Spun.

    With Chelsea, I tend to listen to her full albums at a time - not the individual songs. Abyss is best heard as a single piece. Late at night, of course.

    ☕️☕️.5. Wake up a smell the coffee! Check out the Genesis song “Entangled “. Better song about dreaming. Lyrics: “When you’re Asleep they may show you aerial views of the ground/ Freudian slumbers empty of sound”. A very beautiful and delicate song. Absolutely mesmerizing.

      Best drinking song? I like Jerry Jeff Walker’s “Sangria Wine“. It’s from the classic progressive country album: ‘Viva Terlingua’. th-cam.com/video/DT6BzKftZkE/w-d-xo.html

    Check out the single “Shadows & Light” by Saudade that features both Chelsea Wolfe & Chino Moreno.
    *I think the Pain Is Beauty album might have some good tracks for Manny, the production is clear on “Feral Love” or “We Hit A Wall.” Though, I don’t think his opinion will change too much I think it might a little, (like ~0.8 difference.)
    **An artist like her I do hope y’all check out: Zola Jesus, “Night” or “Hikikomori,” also there’s a David Lynch remix of her song “In Your Nature.”

    I like this kind of moody layered music. I give it a 4. You guys should listen to some Sigur Ros, something like "Untitled track 8". They have have an awesome way of building a song slowly to an amazing conclusion. Its sung in icelandic and their own made up words, but the vocals are just used as another instrument. I'd really be interested in hearing your reaction to it. For a band that's been featured in movies, The Simpsons, and Game of Thrones, nobody ever does a reaction to them. Oh yeah, boxer briefs are the only option!

    Okay, it's like this; You're on the Titanic and it's hit the iceberg. Nothing at first except, "why did my drink spill?" A bit later it's concern which quickly becomes panic mixed with shock. Then when you accept the reality of the situation, which is you're going to die in just a few minutes, there's a moment of time you take to ponder the situation. This song is the background music to that moment when you ponder impending death. It's creepy. Too creepy for me. Score 1.2 with hope that a mind altering substance can make it sound better. 3) Hanes makes a boxer brief made with something called "Comfort Stretch" or something like that. They fit like compression shorts, but not tight. Light weight, stretchy, breathable material. Anyway, it's the best underwear, second to none. Keeps everything in place and it doesn't ride up.

    This was not bad, but it does require a certain place time and space to really appreciate it, as Manny was saying. I give it a 2.
    For tone and atmosphere, I’d rather go with Brian Eno or Eluvium.

  • @Brax1982
    @Brax1982 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Zero? Wow. Finally something is worse than Joy Division, huh?
    I'd call it dark shoegaze/dreamgaze. It's closest to a female Team Sleep. She came up in my recs and I think I didn't like whatever it was. This, I do like a bit. There are some parts that vocally sound really good. Like if PJ Harvey went dark (she probably did at some point). Makes me wanna check out a live video to see if she can do it. Not digging the reverb too much. It's not that thick, though. Not like Polica. That was awful. Similar artist that I already brought up, I think: Emma Ruth Rundle - Haunted Houses
    Boxers. Not really by choice. Can't have something tight around my legs any more. Medical condition.

    I would say this song has potential but just didn't go anywhere with the melody. It just sorta sat in a bubble and stayed there for the most part. 2.0 for me.

      This album "Abyss" is not very song driven. You need to listen to the whole album in the right situation. It is a gem.

  • @petewatson-wailes10

    It's very "I'm 19 and I'm no-one gets me and I'm just so artistic and being deep and meaningful". You just know she wrote a lot of poetry at school and wears a lot of black. It's kinda like a tone poem in a way. Something like Sibelius' Pohjola's Daugther (have a listen here - th-cam.com/video/YHgnAl7srUI/w-d-xo.html).
    When I was 17 I'd have loved it. For me now, it's a 1/5. It just doesn't really grab me. Maybe I'm just too cheery these days.

    • @jpmp1201
      @jpmp1201  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hahaha, yeah I can see that. There's just something I find beautiful about the darkness of it, and it feels more accomplished than, Idk, an emo band that "tries" to be dark and edgy.
