    I live in south Texas and there is a ton of Mexican candy that is easily accessed. When you showed the dried salted plums, my mouth physically started watering because most small convenience stores actually sell what we call "Chinese candy," or the dried salted plums. That is my childhood right there!

    The chicken leg u suppose to reheat be4 u eat.... Just dump the whole bag in to hot boiling water 4 few mins and is deli yumm!!

  • @pumpkin6228
    @pumpkin6228 10 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    If I'm not mistaken, the jelly slimy thing coated around the chicken is the sauce. You can still eat it like this because it's cooked and it's still delicious but with the cold slimy texture, you wouldn't be able to taste much of it. For that, I think you have to heat the pack in the oven for a while before open it up and ready to be served =D

      The plum pits aren't meant to be chewed on. You're just supposed to leave them in your mouth for flavour, such as hard candies! My parents love them haha

    that thing you guys ate at 7:15 is supposed to be just the skin. youre supposed to slowly suck and chew on it. The sourness is known to get rid of giddiness and nausea. Its an adult candy, although i did love it as a child.

    I eat those dried pickles plums when I'm sick because the sour taste prevents me from throwing up. When I was younger and had herbal medicine, my mom gave me those because they got rid of the bitter taste of the medicine and it was healthier than candy.

    The sour pickled plums are good for sucking on when you're feeling nauseous so it is quite popular among pregnant women or for people who get sea sick easily. The ones Simon and Martina got were the sour and salty ones. There are sweet versions and pitiless ones too. Those are really good and addictive.

    Those dried salty plums are called Li Hing Mui here in Hawaii and it's extremely popular. With those that you have you usually just put them in your mouth and suck all the flavor out and maybe at the end eat the skin too. There's also powder versions of it that people here in Hawaii like sprinkling on fruits, especially pineapple.

    The "seven-premium-whatever-it-is" is called “Ô mai" in Vietnamese (no pun intended xD). You have to get used to the flavour. There are many different kinds of Ô mai's. You properly got the one which older people like to eat. They are not sweet but more sour and a little bit salty (sometimes). I like to eat the apricot Ô mai. They are sweet but also a bit salty but just a little bit. But Ô mai is not for everyone :P

  • @Hoo88846
    @Hoo88846 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The sour and salty plums are snacks. You were not supposed to crack open the pit but just eat the outer part (dried plum meat). We Chinese usually put these salty snacks in our mouths for the longer lasting taste instead of eating the whole bag in one seating. Treat these kinds of snacks as hard candies that you keep on sucking in your mouths instead of eating a whole bag in one seating. Again, you were not supposed to crack open the pits.

    dear simon, you seem like a lovely person, but i'm going to give you a tidbit of advice that my kindergarten teacher gave me which has stuck with me all my life:
    CHEW LIKE YOU HAVE A SECRET!
    that is all.

      Lol my 2nd grade teacher told me the same thing, because I would always chew with my mouth open, but it's much more crass and ruder, lol I miss mrs. Lawson, she would always say crap and shit in front of us, the times.....

    • @chullybeans
      @chullybeans 10 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      well i know they're living there, and that the culture norms are totally different, but they were both born and raised in toronto...i can't see that simon just picked up the habit in the last 5 or 6 years they've been living in korea.
      and it was just a polite suggestion. :P
      i have my doubts about whether or not simon would care anyway.

      chullybeans in asia, eating with your mouth open and making noises while chewing is normal...i was raised with this culture, but honestly i know this man who chew so loudly at dinner table, i roll my eyes in disgust and want to tell him to stop cos it was so uncomfortable!

    Lol those dried salted plum pits... so popular with the older gen, its really something for the gmas and gpas to chew on for flavor. Some chinese foods are good, but I wouldn't be so inclined to eat too much of that stuff since the food industry isn't as regulated as it should be in China. Beware of preservatives and msg!

      +cozycushins HEEYY i love those, its not just for old people. you're supposed to eat those slowly because its realyl salty and then u let it sit in ur mouth. and i agree with the china thing... when we buy these we get them from taiwan :D

    The pitted plums (the thing with a seed) which tastes sour sweet and salty is actually something people like to nibble or they use it in drinks together with lime and it tastes pretty good! You just throw the seed after you finish the thin layer of flesh~

      Yeah, it's almost impossible to eat it inside... which is why you almost never eat it when it's not summer/spring... I used to like it, but now I don't know... Although, the stench is worse than the taste. It doesn't taste nearly as bad as it smells.

    • @apieceofsky24
      @apieceofsky24 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh wow Surströmming .... I honestly don't think I'll ever forget the smell.. (I'm Australian but I have a Swedish friend and the last time I went to visit her we were at her family's summerhouse and her parents and grandparents were eating surströmming, (lucky it was outdoors lol!) they tried to get me to try it but I honestly couldn't get past the smell.) I love you Sweden, but there was no way I was eating that lol.

    The dried plums with pits are called li hing mui (Wikipedia it) and they are salty and sweet with a licorice aftertaste. They're definitely an acquired taste! I used to get these all the time when I was living in Hawaii, as they're a popular snack there.

  • @2511Lizzybusy
    @2511Lizzybusy 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    you eat the dried plums like candy, the sour taste makes you less thirsty, is good for health and stimulate the appetite/Digestion, in mouth the plum gets soft and you seperate the plum from the stone.
