    Another helpful video thanks roger! I was watching your videos a while before I came to Australia still watching and still learning but mate I just can’t stop fishing here I love it. Off to putty beach early this morning with my 10ft rod, about to sit down and get some rigs made up. Bait will be mullet fillets with some large squid to use whole on mulloway rig or in strips. Been catching lots of different species of fish thanks to your broad variety of videos with all things thought of, appreciate your time and effort really goes along way. A lot of over fishing going on in popular spots like Avoca beach rocks on a Saturday morning becoming concerning with how many lost rigs are down there and what it actually looks like down there. Video of the life under the waves be cool 👍🇦🇺

    Great video Roger. One sinker you overlooked is the spoon sinker. Very common here in Western Australia. They are aerodynamic for casting and also don't roll across the sand like a star sinker. Usually not as heavy too. I have mainly used spoon sinkers for beach fishing and found they work up to a point. Once the conditions get rough, they tend to get pushed around and you need the star sinker. Also, you can't really set up a spoon sinker as a running sinking. I learnt something with your idea on using a star sinker in a running setup. Very cool idea. I am going to try this one out. Thanks for the great tips. Keep the videos coming!

    • @bushmanphotos
      @bushmanphotos ปีที่แล้ว

      a spoon sinker is for rough ground... they're made that shape so that they plane to the surface as soon as you start winding in. They are excellent for this purpose but almost useless in any sort of current and I personally can't see any reason that you would want to use one off a beach.

    Hi Roger. I have watched this video and many others of yours several times. I decided to make a comment on this one. I am, as we say in Queensland " Blessed" because we have Moreton and Frazer Islands. Beach fishing heaven! I have been using the Grapnel style sinkers for about 4 years now and let me say, they are "Insanely Good" at holding ground in rough surf conditions. When I decide to reel in to check my bait, I have to struggle to break them free of the sand bottom. I use 20 and 25 lb line on my reels and sometimes I am concerned that I will break the line trying to dislodge the sinker from the sand. Many times I find the stainless wires have been rotated out of the locating slots on the side of the sinker, proof they were anchored firmly. I am about to try the pulley rig system when I head over to Moreton next month for 2 weeks, I'll let you know how it goes, maybe you use this system also? Any vids on pulley rig systems?
    I thoroughly enjoy your videos mate! Keep them coming.

    covering ground reaching more fish definitely more important for many and often fish are feeding very close but reaching spots can be essential. I still like my overhards after fifty years. even with half ounce or an ounce for whiting with a forty plus year old ABU or Daiwa millionaire great for casting metal lures too. not for fishing pillies. The use of overheads almost rare these days. I often use light gear and a threadline too great fun.

    I’ve used heavy sinkers against strong inland wind the kind that blows particles of seawater into my face … at best the sinker will be suspended in mid air and drop mid way or even back onto the beach … the way I look at it the line was being blown by the wind and as the longer it spooled out, the more resistance it gets and no matter how balanced my gear was, I’d pack up and called it a day … the weather won …

    Hi sir, what rod action do you recommend for surf fishing, heavy or medium?thanks

    • @RogerOsborneFishing
      @RogerOsborneFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kabalen, it depends on what fish you are targeting. I would go medium for an allround rod.

    How about in choosing the right tides, like incoming verses outgoing. How does this affect the decision making process?

    Given that it is unlikely to snag off the beach (with exception of weed/kelp heavy beaches), is having a lighter trace even worth doing?
    Also, if I don't know the strength of my reel line because I bought it years ago and forgot, should I respool the reel with 15kg line? It's a large 12ft beach fishing rod and I intend to use star sinkers as you have shown.

    • @RogerOsborneFishing
      @RogerOsborneFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Buddy, Yes, you don't need a light trace unless you are fishing for Whiting. You should replace your line as monofilament deteriorates over time. What size/model is your reel?

      @@RogerOsborneFishing i had a look, it is a Shimano 6000 FB. For my son, I have a 2500 FB on a 6ft rod. He's only 7, so that's as big a rod as he can handle right now.

    Roger I Recently watched a video of you whiting fishing using a 2hook rig which seemed to have the sinker between the hooks. Not a normal pater noster rig
    Was I correct and if so could you show me this rig please

    • @RogerOsborneFishing
      @RogerOsborneFishing  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, in this case the sinker was between the 2 hooks. There are various ways that you can set up.
      I will consider going into more detail in my next Beach Fishing video

    Roger with all this run off from the floods, my beach, Stockton, is brown, but the actual conditions look otherwise fishable. What is the ruling regards brown stormy water for beach fishing? And the temp has dropped to 17 degrees . Thanks Mate.

    • @RogerOsborneFishing
      @RogerOsborneFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I should think that the waves would be pretty big up your way today. The brown water is good, it doesn’t bother the fish. Mulloway tend to congregate near river mouths in these conditions.

    • @scottypersia5715
      @scottypersia5715 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RogerOsborneFishing The waves aren't that big. There is a very strong westerly blowing today which will flatten out whatever there is.

    For heavy rigs Save your cash and use old car wheel lug nuts and other random heavy brass or copper parts from your junk crate. Even old broken heavy duty lead battery terminals.

    Sir. In line fishing is it ok to cast near to target big fish. When we target big fish around 6kg 10kg is deep nesassary.

      Arshad, It all depends on the beach formation. Sometimes you cast near, sometimes you cast far
