'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' (2003) - REVIEW

- In 1973, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre shocked the world. It was raw, it was dirty, it was horrifying. Over the years, several sequels were made, none of which reflected the original’s tone in… any way whatsoever. Today we set our sights 30 years after Leatherface made his big screen debut, when Michael Bay’s company, Platinum Dunes, acquired the rights to produce a new Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Even with the first film’s cinematographer, Daniel Pearl, coming back to shoot this one, there was no way to match the look or feel of the original. For this reason, nobody was interested in making a shot for shot remake. There’d be no point. This 2003 entry would be a different kind of remake… But how would it turn out?

Thank you all for being here to kick off SCREAM SEQUENCE 2024! Reminder note: along with the most recent installment of The History of Friday The 13th, this was the other uncensored version that was lost due to a technical error. Don't sign up to Patreon looking for this one, it doesn't exist. But with these two out of the way, it should be smooth sailing from here on out.
Thank you for watching, we're just getting started.
Now that was a fooking great video to start us off excellent work Ian as always
One of, if not THE, greatest "remakes"/"reboots" ever.
It's up there, without a doubt.
Either the thing, the blob or the fly take that crown, but this is very solid.
Underrated Remake, kind of like how they didn’t just copy and paste the original story for this remake and made it something different
Had to switch it up, big time.
This is one of my FAVORITE REMAKES!
I honestly think it's scarier than the original.
My mom would not let me watch this movie as a child. But we owned it on DVD, so naturally I watched it in my room at 2 am when everyone was already in bed. Needless to say, 8 year old me should’ve listened to my mother!!
Hahahahahahahhaha
This movie is legitimately creepy. The set design alone is enough to make your skin crawl. The case footage scared the shit out of me too, Ian. That shot of Leatherface at the end is an all timer. I think one of the best moments of the movie (other than anytime Ermy is on screen) is when Leatherface turns around in the headlights of a car and he's wearing one of the character's faces. That scene is legit. I watched this at a friend's house and I was leaving late at night and I ran to my car thinking Leatherface was out there... Somewhere.
I've actually met Andrew Bryniarski who played Leatherface (and Zangief in the Street Fighter movie...lol) a couple times and he's awesome. Dude is massive!
That's awesome.I hope I pronounced his name correctly, lol
@@616Entertainment pretty much 😁
Brin-are-ski
Don’t forget he’s Chip Shrek in Batman Returns!
Yeah, baby, the return of Scream Sequence!! I’ve been waiting for this day for SO LONG!!
Hell yea brudda, hope you enjoy it.
I’m so glad Scream Sequence is back. This was an awesome way to start off the new season. I’ve definitely heard mixed to negative things of this film, but if you say you love this film, Ian, then I definitely want to try it out myself. I trust you a lot. Plus, if R. Lee Ermey is in this film, sign me the hell up. I love this man and god rest his soul, he’ll forever be missed❤️🙏.
Anyways, great video, man. Hope to try this film soon, and I can’t wait for the rest of your videos this month. Time for spooks👻🎃💀.
Hope you and all the DanDans continue to have a good week, stay safe, and I love you all.😊❤️
Hell yea dude! Check it out, let me know what you think.
More horror!!! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Criminally underrated channel. Jesus. People don’t know what they’re missing.
Awww yeaaahh!! I feel largely the same way. Me and Mountain Man watched this one a while back when we were burning through horror remakes. Not sure if this is some kind of a “hot take” or anything but I honestly feel like this one’s better than the original. Mad respect for the OG, it’s grimy and very effective, but it’s also got its share of camp in there too, with Grandpa getting wheeled out to do a big kill at the kitchen table and he can’t even hold the knife or whatever haha.
I also love R Lee Ermey in this role, he’s just so gleefully evil. What a performance.
Loved this episode, man. Looking forward to more!
Hell yea brudda. Dude I'm with you 100%.
I thought that footage at the end was real too. Which itself gave me nightmares
Man this version of leather face was legit scary.
Big time.
We need the next Friday installment! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
November!
@@616Entertainment the Freddy versus Jason and reboot Video?
@@musicislyfe1672 Yes.
Ahhhh!!! I’ve never been this pumped for horror movies before!! Let’s go 616 Scream Sequence!!
Enjoy it!
I saw this in the theater. It did not disappoint and still holds up today. I liked begining as well but it wasn't as powerful as this one. If there are going to be further remakes of classics, whoever is doing it should look back at this film and the dawn of the dead one. Great film and review.
Scream month marathon time! Let's do this.😃
i love this remake you should talk about the prequel with jordana brewster excellent video
I find it funny how the case file footage for me is the scariest part of this movie. Something about sent chills down. my spine as kid. The prequel they did after this movie had the narrator do speech and then he ended it by saying the title of the movie and I kid you not, I could not stay inside the room whenever that part came out. I could watch all the blood and guts you could imagine, but that speech in the end with he narrator's voice spooked me to no end. One hell of a reboot.
I'm so exited for October!!
Good!
Hands down, the best slasher remake and best Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie made without Tobe Hooper's involvement. Despite the more professional sheen and slicker filming style, the grit and brutality that the original excels at is perfectly captured here. Plus, the acting is really good, with R. Lee Ermy stealing the show as Sherriff Hoyt.
This was THE HORROR MOVIE of the time but the DVD bonuses was an artistic master piece of it's own
Yeah that 2 disc speal edition red covered one. That was definetly the cream of the crop of horror DVDs in the day.
This is the best remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre ever made, and R. Lee Ermey was the absolute best in this movie. Great way to start off month of October, and I can't wait to see more of this soon.
This and Dawn of the Dead were my favorite remakes of horror in the 2000s.
1:07 Oh! So this is the kind of day we're having today.😐
This and the evil dead are up there with thee best remakes ever done
Love hearing that Deadly Alliance music at the start of the video. It's a nice reference to Leatherface in MKX. I see what you did there you sneaky devil. 👍
Really???
This was the first TCM movie that i watched and i watched it in theaters. This scared the piss out of me.
I am so glad to hear it holds up. I need to rewatch it soon. There is a chance I like it more than the original
Great remake movie that deserves more love
October is off to a great start!
I was terrified to watch any horror movie for all of my childhood. Then when i was 13 i started watching horror and it became my favorite genre. This being one of the first horror movies i have ever seen was also the first horror movie to actually scare me and for that i will always hold it close to me. It is not as good as the original but for pure nostalgia and fear i will always love it
It's so much fun, great way to start.
I love this movie. super ominous feeling throughout the film and Jessica Beil is great in it. I remember when I made my own little cheesy horror movies with our family video camera, and I used the music from this lol
I am shocked that this has such bad ratings. I've always pointed to this and Friday the 13th as the way you do a remake.
This is going to be a great October!
You daaaaaamn right!
That MK background music thoo
this channel is the best channel that i am subscribed to
Thanks for the kind words. =)
There were 2 leatherfaces in this film. Brett Wagner did the Kemper kill then got Ill and had to be replaced
Also, Ed Gein will be the 3rd season story of the MONSTERS show on NETFLIX 😀
This is a good remake, I do miss the grungey documentary-style the original had though
One of the better remakes of the 2000's. I think it lacks a lot of what made the original work, but it's still fun in its own right.
I hate critics it's a job that requires absolutely no talent or skill whatsoever anyone could do it and that's why I don't listen to them I'll watch the movie and decide for myself if I waste my money then it's my money to waste and I agree with you this movie holds up real well
This movie scared the crap out of me when it was out on DVD haha
My GF at the time wanted to watch it last year so we watched the Original the Remake and TCM the Beginning all in one night haha
A night I will always remember and cherish cause I got to watch 3 amazing slasher films haha
I've seen every movie in the Texas Chainsaw series. such a disjointed mess of "sequels", remakes, and narratives.
I still hold the opinion that the original and this 2003 remake are the only good ones. I love them both and I'm happy to see the remake get some love here.
As much as I love the original, I think they did a damn good job with this remake. Personally I love it
The original was based on Ed and his insane "human art materials" which was much more prominent in original.
I went cinema to see this film and I remember going in thinking it will be awful or will ruin the original and coming out loving it! Great film
I absolutely love this movie not only does it represent a nostalgic time in my childhood but in my opinion is the best Texas chainsaw massacre movie in the franchise … remakes usually don’t get it right this one in my opinion did !!!
The original TCM can't be touched. But this was a decent remake and fun to watch. I think Marcus Nispel fits this horror style better than Friday the 13th.
My son owns the "Limited Edition" DVD it's neat and full of goodies.
Excellent set, I used to have that one.
They did a great job on this and Friday and now I know why they seemed so familiar. I also thought this movie started the remake "classics" but nightmare was terrible 😅
One off my favorite remake😍🍿
It's damn good.
This is one of the best horror remakes imo. I immensely enjoyed this movie. I didn’t have a crush on Jessica Biel during her 7th Heaven popularity but oh my god did she look incredible in this movie and acted her ass off. After the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie, I didn’t care for any of the sequels but I still liked the lore of what started the Chainsaw Massacre franchise before it got out of hand. Miss me with that Chainsaw Massacre 3D shit even tho Alexandra Daddario looked fucking good in that movie and I didn’t bother with origins. Just looked like garbage. I did peep the Netflix remake and outside of the kills, it did not touch the original or lived up to the remake. I’ll be watching this movie again this month. So good.
This is easily one of my favorite slasher movie ever
It's excellent, good choice.
One of the best of the remakes if you ask me. Marcus Nispel is the man!
He did an excellent job.
Don’t worry about it. I was 11 when Blair Witch dropped in 1999. My cousin and I thought it was 100% real footage.
Hahahaha these liars.
Wow.
Fun fact: Harley Quinn ENTERED DC continuity with Batman: Harley Quinn … released October 1999 😊
Based on a true story I was like wow that happened in real life
Hahahahaha
This was actually the first Texas Chainsaw Massacre that I ever watched and it's still my favorite. Since then I've gone back and watched all the other ones. Regretfully haha. Jk, I needed to, I'm a horror junky. Oh and Jessica Biel? White tank top and cowgirl hat? Sign me the F up! Haha.
The greatest remake ever I think it's better than the original
Let's go!
I have watched this film and I liked it to. I never seen the original TCSM...
One of the better remakes
It's a classic. I always loved this film.
Heeelllll yea.
Razah Shap Ian!
not a huge fan of it but i do respect the fact that it at least felt like they gave a damn about the franchise. you cant say that with most of tcm movies.
This and the dawn of the dead remake were the best remakes of the 2000s in my opinion, wasnt really a fan of the other remakes
I haven't seen the Dawn remake since I was a teenager, I should check it out soon.
Ha! I actually like this movie a lot!
It has a super intense chase sequence….. only nitpick was how tame the violence was….. they prob took note of that cause the “prequel” increased the gore…. Though I never liked it as much as this one….
Jessica Biel in this movie is the most attractive woman in human history. Just wow. Beyond that this movie is one of the very best of 2000's horror.
This 😂 was actually the first Chainsaw movie I'd seen. But the original is my favorite
Great way to start.
this movie was great, not sure why it has below average reviews. it was scary as hell
It really is bizarre to see those low reviews.
The original Texas Chainsaw is 1974, bruv.
Anyway this version is the reason Jessica Biel is my favorite Final Girl. And no matter what RT says, the movie was a hit, that started a horror remake Renaissance in the early 00s.
You know what the hell I mean, lol
Interesting, someone who openly goes against the normal with this movie, I also share the small island so to speak, very interested on what you say about the Friday reboot.
Coming in November!
It definitely is a good movie.
I prefer the original, but the remake is still a phenomenal movie. & any movie starring Jessica Biel is worth a watch 😍.
There's no doubt. Jessica Biel for President, 2024.
Probably my favorite horror movie remake ever. Prime Jessica Biel
She could end wars.
@@616Entertainment brooooo
First watched Andrew ( Leatherface) from The Program. Played Lattimer, the roided up defensive end. How I learned of the guy.
He did an excellent job.
Is Mortal Kombat Monday on a hiatus?
Season 4 ended on July 1, my dude. It was a full year long, 52 episodes in a row.
A great choice to kick off the series.
Felt like it needed to be a big name, for sure.
Awesome movie man damn the haters cheers Ian
Thanks for watching!
I actually liked the remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Jessica Biel made that movie!
She could end wars.
Idk why but I thought the girl in the thumbnail was the hawk tuah girl and I’m disappointed in myself for thinking that
Ooohhhhhhh dear.
If you love Jessica Biel, perhaps you should check out Powder Blue, if you haven't already.
...kiddin' me?
@616Entertainment yeah I kinda figured haha
Fun fact it’s the only TCM I love (also liked the new one on Netflix) but the rest are terrible imo, inc the og which I think is massively overrated
Better than the og in its own way idc idc idc
They're both great, I can see a case for either being preferred, no doubt.
awesome movie. that newest one though i forgot what it's called.. is garbage.. especially the ending.
1974* classic
I guess am the very few that didn't like this remake lol it's ok but I prefer the 74 version ( R.I.P) gunnar hansen OG Leatherface
How daaaaare you! lol
This movie is to me way better than the og. Sue me. Talk smack. I really dont care. Something special about seeing it in theaters opening night at a midnight showing.
😘😘😘👍🏼👍🏼🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Horrible remake, doesn’t even touch the original
Insane. What is so horrible about it?
The original had style and humour, this is millennial horror
Oh Jesus. Okay.
It is insane to think that the remake was released about 20 years ago. ⏲️😮
I know, where does the time go?
@@616Entertainment It goes to Tekno Team 2000...That's my guess. Great job with the video and hope that this video series is a big hit. 😊
