  • In the six years that passed between 1980 and 1986, Paramount had pumped out six Friday The 13th movies. In the absence of Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees had been running unopposed for the ‘king of the slashers’ position. Well, he ran unopposed for a little while. While Jason was growing tired and trending downward, Freddy Krueger was new and hot, trending upward, selling tickets and merchandise like hotcakes. Friday The 13th’s home studio, Paramount, saw the writing on the wall. They needed an injection of fresh energy… aaaaand they wouldn’t get it in the way that they wanted, so they called an audible. Today, we look at Parts VII and VIII. Let's get to it!

      Agreed I think it’s the best look he’s had. The face was perfect and looked like a zombie, the exposed bones, how huge he was, the chain around his neck, and the mask being chipped in corner showing part of his face. Just incredible stuff 10/10 imo.

      Agree with you all. His look in 7 is the absolute best of the whole series. The other thing I think is the best in this movie is the final showdown. Even though a lot of people think the telekinesis aspect is silly and hard to believe, once you get past that, it makes for some great scenes where Tina just kicks his ass.
      Edit: one MORE thing I thought this movie did best too was the prologue. Great montage of the clips and crazy Ralph narrating.

    The Friday the 13th series is the poster child of the MPAA being heavy handed with what to cut and omit, and Part 7 is the worst casualty.
    For the ending, they actually wanted a zombified version of Tina's dad to pull Jason into the water.
    There was an alternate ending filmed where Jason pulls someone fishing into the lake.

    • @616Entertainment
      @616Entertainment  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yea, I didn’t include the dad’s makeup and the other finish because they both don’t add anything to what it was, ya know? Just more gaga. The MPAA definitely had it in for Friday, though. There are thousands of other movies of these same eras that are way, way worse.

    • @GAMEPRODELTA
      @GAMEPRODELTA 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The zombified dad being replaced by a normal guy with a dirty face was on part 7's producer, since she was pissed John Carl Beuchler went behind her back and had Jason unmasked way earlier than planned, because she hated Jason's unmasked look due to him looking like a frog in her own words.

    • @darrenhood4033
      @darrenhood4033 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The MPAA had it in for Friday specifically because it was bankrolled, promoted and released by a major studio, and despite the very public grumblings behind the scenes of how embarrassed they were with its success, still kept cashing the checks the box office gave them. If Paramount was never involved with the franchise there would not be as big a backlash. This was the studio behind The Ten Commandments, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and the Godfather and their biggest return on investments came from trashy slasher picture.

    Unpopular opinion, but the design for Jason in JTM (Both masked and unmasked) is one of my favorites. Literally the only movie in the series where he looks like a creature from the lake with how slimy he is.

  • @Lowemsaber

    I remember going to the theater with my stepfather to watch Part VIII vividly. From eating pigs in a blanket to watching Batman beforehand. While it isn't my favorite in the series (and never will be), those memories will last a lifetime.
    Also, I think the man behind the mask in both the trailer and the sauna scene might be Ken Kirzinger. He was one of the stunt coordinators on the film as well as playing the short order cook in the diner scene. Had I knew this question would come up in this, I would have asked him when I met him a couple of months ago.
    As a HUGE Friday fan, I appreciate the work you are doing with this and look forward to the last two chapters of this. Really great work!

I basically stop watching Friday the 13th after The Final Chapter these days. Sometimes I'll watch Part 5, but mostly my canon is the first 4 movies. If they want to Halloween 2018 Friday the 13th, and go back and do a sequel that goes back to the end of The Final Chapter I'd support that.

      Well the main problem is Paramount slashed the budget so much they could only film a couple of days in Times Square and the rest of New York was Vancouver Canada. They might as well have called it Jason takes a cruise ship.

    I was 10 at the time,and the movie not so much scared me, trying to sleep later did! 😂 I had been Friday 13th tortured by my cousins since i was young enough to remember. One time at their house (single wide trailer) watching one of the previous films,going to the bathroom only to have my oldest cousin jump out in a hockey mask. I will say,at the time,80s, Jason ruled horror, followed up very closely by Freddy,chucky and then Michael.Since those glorious days, Michael has definitely taken over the scare of all time throne! Love your friday 13th reviews, Keep putting out your great content! You're absolutely right about Jason showing his face,but you mention "Golden gate bridge",i think you meant like George Washington,but i can only imagine how hard doing an entire video without any mistakes!

    Long story incoming, but my brother went to university with the guy who voiced the original Bob on the show ReBoot. He also played “gang banger #2” in Jason Takes Manhattan and said one of the characters was being such a clown and pain in the balls on set that they cut all his lines in editing. It’s been a while so I forget exactly which one, but I remember them showing me a few times when the camera would pan to him and then it would just suddenly cut to a different scene. Anyway 🌈⭐️

    Really liked the video! Part 7 is probably my favorite out of the franchise, other than the original. I personally like the direction it took, in that we have a protagonist that has the ability to actually fight back against Jason (the "wtf?!" way he looks up when she tries to electrocute him will never not be priceless) instead of making her another helpless victim. Also I guess I'm a little biased, since 'Carrie' is one of my favorite horror movies of all time, and it felt like a fresh, interesting take to have someone with her telekinetic powers as the final girl in a 'Friday' film instead of just repeating the same old slasher formula. Though yeah, the thing with the dad at the end was reeeeeally stupid. And the original kills were definitely better than the censored ones they went with. It's not a perfect 'Friday' movie, and I get why someone wouldn't care for it, but it's an entertaining one, and one I'll always have a soft spot for.

    I never seen any of the Friday the 13th movies in theaters cause I was a Kid, the only one I saw in theaters was Jason X lol, but my Uncle was the one who introduced me to the OG Jason Movies & watching them on USA Up All Night and on TNT back in the TNT Monstervision days, but as I got older I remember watching Goosebumps Night of the Living Dummy 2 cause that show was also apart of my childhood and as I'm watching it I remember hearing the music in the episode and then one day I rewatched Part 7 again and when I heard the music in that movie I was like yoooo I think Night of the living dummy 2 used some of the musical score from Friday the 13th part 7, every time Slappy was doing something the music sounded like the music used when Tina was using her powers in Part 7 and it always made me smile 🤣🤣...Great Video Bro!! 💯💯

    I wholeheartly agree with you that Part VII and VIII suck for multiple reasons. VII is highly overrated. You mentioned that VIII retconned PART II by claiming that Jason drowned: That is true but VI also did that retcon before. i also agree with Hodder being "not my Jason". He was just a heavy breathing monster that was full in rage. I prefer the "wild woodsmann with mommy-prolems" from 2-4. But sorry: the PArt 3 reveal was really by accident because he pulled up the rope ...and NOT intentional!

    I liked part VII but it's because I had a crush on Tina. Her and Alice in Nightmare on Elm Street were the two I loved as a kid but in terms of the movie, it's not good. I watched it twice and when it comes to Friday the 13th movies, I've seen 1-4 at least 4 times each, saw 5 once because it really sucked, I've seen 6 the most with at least 5 watches, and after 7, I've only watched the rest once except Freddy vs Jason. Manhattan was so bad, I was so bored, I started falling asleep halfway through, just didn't care so I agree with you, these last two just sucked, even if I loved Tina.

    Love the brief mention of the TV show. I remember back in the early 00s they started rerunning it on either USA or what was Sci-Fi and that was the first time i'd ever heard of it. I ended up becoming a big fan of it. It was kinda corny and sllly, but the whole "cursed object of the week" thing really appealed to me haha. I remember reading an urban legend that they originally wanted to tie the show into the movies by having the series finale center on Jason's mask being the final cursed object lol

    That moment in part 3 is not scripted as Jason deliberately showing Chris his face. Maybe they retroactively decided that's the case or they made it up on the day, but as scripted: his mask just slipped while he was removing the noose.

    - It's so weird that Jason lifted his mask to scare the thugs because it means JASON HAS THOUGHTS. He THOUGHT that he doesn't have to fight the thugs because he can just lift his mask to show them his face and scare them away because… it's so ugly? (Body-image issues? 🤔) And it feels wrong to think of Jason as thinking instead of being a thoughtless automaton. 🤦
    - Aw, I was looking forward to seeing the Golden Gate Bridge in NYC. THAT would have been interesting. 😕
    - The only way that the ending of 8 could've been dumber is if the Ninja Turtles showed up. 😒
    - The cook in the NYC diner that Jason tosses was Ken Kirzinger who would play Jason in _Freddy vs Jason._ It's of note that when they're standing beside each other in that one shot, Ken is _head and shoulders_ taller than Kane Hodder. 🤨 Jason got a growth-spurt between X and FvsJ.
    - I don't mind New Blood, it's just an extension to Jason Lives as far as I'm concerned. It was Manhattan that actually jumped the shark, big time. Manhattan was awful, 9 was bad, and X was laughably bad. It just got worse and worse after 7.
    (Fun fact: if you pay attention, you'll notice that the entire franchise is (mostly) continuous, with each one picking up where the previous one left off; there aren't really any random installments, not even X. In fact, a lot of horror franchises are surprisingly like this, Freddy, Chucky, Pinhead, Tall Man, even Michael Meyers. Not Leprechaun, that's just unhinged.)
    - 39:27 You can clearly see the broken mask being pulled back with strings from behind.
