So this video didn’t go as planned, by the end you hear the sad news, but I think the tank turned out great and my crabs are loving it. Thank you all for your patience and I hope you enjoyed the video even with the sad end. These things happen and sadly I always knew this was possible. Hope you guys enjoy seeing my crabs and have a wonderful weekend! ❤️
Hey Lori! I had a question, I am thinking about spending money on an Exo-Terra for my 2 hermit crabs. I have had them for about 2 years and they are happy and thriving in a 30 gallon tall. I was thinking of buying the one like you use to have, the square one, do you think my crabs would be happy in it? It’s expensive and I kind of want to find out if I should spend the money on it, because I think my crabs would be super happy and thrive even more. And I could have a lot more easy access to the tank.
I am so sorry for your loss😭😭 I also wanted to let you know how much you helped me care correctly for the hermit crabs I have had for almost 4 years now. If I had not started watching your channel, my hermit crabs might not be as healthy and happy as they are and might not be alive today.
Hi Lori! I’m so sorry to hear that your new crab passed away. It can be so difficult to lose even a new hermit crab. If in the future, you do ever decide to rescue another friend, I have a tip that may help! We have found a method that helps with PPS (post purchase stress)/PPDS(post purchase death syndrome). It’s a four week quarantine period in which you help the hermit crab focus on eating healthy foods and drinking water before they go to molt for the first time with you. Like you said, you can still do everything right and your hermit crab can pass away. The same applies to this method but we have really seen good results with this method and it may be worth looking into. We do have a video on the topic if you are curious and want more information. Again, I am sorry about your little friend -CCS 🦀🐚
Thanks for the tips, I have heard of this, I gave him 4 weeks, clean food and water for the whole time but he didn’t make it. I knew this was possible but it’s just so hard. 🖤🐚
Sorry the video didn’t go as planned. At least your two crabs have a nice big enclosure now. I’ve considered getting a third crab and upgrading my enclosure to a 15 or 20 gallon.
I know how it feels. I had a hermit crab for 3 weeks and then he passed. I did everything I could, like you did. I have 2 hermit crabs and I have had them for 15 months. They will enjoy their tank 😊
They’re hella stressed when we get them. They’ve been so abused by the time they’re ours, sometimes coming home is the final stressor that kills them (they were going to die soon whether we took them or not, but at least we could give them a comfortable home. I lost two crabs. One from stress and the other died from a flood in the tank (i actually think one of my water dishes was leaking, not a problem now as I have two critter keepers for their water (one is a gallon and the other is a liter. I meant to get another liter one as my crabs are small, but you know what? We’re gonna roll with it.
I just got a 20 gallon long and my crabs love it, and your videos have been so helpful and insightful. Thankyou for making your videos and im so sorry for your loss
hi im Molly and I have hermit crabs.i got them before I knew about the hermit crab industry.now I make videos about proper care you are my absolute favorite You-Tuber thank you for making videos
My crabitat is different. I have a 10 gallon tank with 5 inches of sand for them to burrow and molt, and got a bunch of decorations used in other fish tanks. For example, I got fake plantation for them to climb and hide, same for decorative wood and rocks in natural and non-toxic color. I got a giant water pool from an giant shell and a spunge. And I have vegetation for them (like lettuce). And for the top I have a model of a nautilus and two jellyfish on top hanging from the lid. I have nine hermits and im planing on getting more. I've spent over a $100 on the tank, and everything in it. My hermits are like my babies and I want to give them everything to make them happy.
The heat pad needs to be above substrate level otherwise it'll dry the sub out over there and it can make the substrate super hot. You want to heat the air, not the sub.
@@nogoodnecktie12you shouldn’t spray as it can cause a flood. If you get an air pump and run the tubing into their water dish (assuming it’s deep. I use two critter keepers as water dishes) you can increase humidity like that without causing a flood. Or just put the water dish next to the heater for the same effect without the risk of flooding

I am thinking about adopting 2 more that need a home from a lady who’s daughter lost interest and I am worried about introducing them and having more to care for.
I have done this method with my new crab. She only has small amount of substrate at first so she will start eating and does not bury herself alive. Let's see if it works!
Thank you so much for your hermit crab videos. I recently bought three back in may and your videos helped me learn about taking care of them. Sadly one of my babies passed away a month after getting them but the other two are still alive and happy and healthy thanks to you. I love my hermit crabs so much. Just found your channel. I remember in college a friend had one just small carrier it only lived a year. My aunt had some they lived for about five years.
I have two hermit crabs that I do not feel I can care for properly, what should I do? I've looked for forums to rehome them to someone else, etc. I unfortunately did not do enough research before getting them and want them to have a good life, but don't feel like I have the time to care properly for them.
re you able to do a video on what to put in a travel tank? Like if you are in the process of moving what you can put them in or your going on a roadtrip?
I really need advice. My sister and her kids recently went to South Padre Island and my nephew convinced my sister to get a hermit crab. They went to the little shop, picked out a big one and a small one and then got another small one for free. They of course were given the small little plastic container, painted shells, etc. I am an experienced Turtle owner, so I knew to do my research as soon as I found out she got them and came across a bunch of information, including this channel, that they had nothing they needed. However, I did not come across this video in time. When they got home, they filled the tank up with moistened play sand to the 6 inches, water bowls, etc. a few days ago, the bigger crab died. Now there are the two little ones. My sister has been caring for them to the best of her ability but the kids aren’t helping like they were supposed to so now she wants me to take the crabs. I got them today, and now I’m coming across this video and I have no clue what to do since they’re already in this set up tank directly after being purchased, and one has already passed. The small ones are alive, we’ve been looking in to see new movement and new burrow holes. Today since I got the tank, the past couple hours, I have only seen one of the crabs moving around. I don’t know if the other one is trying to molt but it is definitely in the sand. I really need help..
Hi. I got myself a pacman frog after I saw Lemon's video. I've been looking all over the web for a video explaining Pacman frog language. I've noticed they make this little chirp-like sound in some occasions. For example, today while spraying Bulbasaur's tank he started chirping when I closed it. Did that mean he was happy? Was he upset? Afraid. If you could explain or make a video about it it would be SOOO awesome.
I have to get something off my chest. I remember when I had a hermit crab (A few years ago) I didn't know why he wasnt coming out and I searched it up and it said to put a little warm water in his shell. I did it. And what I didnt know what that the water was HOT. He died. I feel guilty and sick everytime I think of him. Im very sorry. RIP baby
I just found a hermit crab by the elevator and he looks really social…he is climbing all over… is that normal? Should I not touch him? Also do I need a solid lid or a net lid?
I love your hermit crab videos, gives me a lot of ideas for my two crabs Julie and Shelby, would you recommend that tank I have a ten gallon and would like to expand???
Hi Lori ! I have a question to you , I need advice . I want to rebuild my habitat , it is 40 gallon and I have 4 crabs . Will take me 4-5 hours to do it . Where I should put them for this long time ? What they need until I can put them back ?
I'm getting a hermit crab soon! 😊😊 but I have a question where can I buy fake leaves so they can hide and climb because I've been looking and I haven't found anything that I like yet so do you have any idea where I can get some leaves?
I also have bad news... literally just earlier tonight my hermit crab Jason-Billy most likely died. I'm about 95% sure he dead but I'm so confused I did everything you said and then his claw fell of and then either because of that or not he most likely died. There is some evidence to him molting but a lot more to his death. Edit: yep he's dead Edit 2: there is some changes. Its been 2 days since he "died" but I still don't smell anything and he was in the saltwater for a long time before the incident and my other hermit crab just changed shells (not the "dead" ones). So three possibilities. 1 he's molting 2 he's injured and 3 he got in a fight with the other hermit crab. There names are Mason and Jason-Billy Jason-Billy is the one who might be dead or dying. Edit 3: now that I think about it I got the hermit crabs from my friend and he had a small plastic carrier tank with gravel and the sponge as there water and pellets in a bottle cap for food with nothing else Edit 4: he's dead
So sorry about the loss ik how it feels but the tank looks amazing! 💕also what live plants could I put in their tank? and also my hermit crabs fought idk why but what could i do if there is anything? but I've always loved your videos!❤❤😊

Omg I'm so sorry
My crab comes out at night and runs around and climbs so I see him every night at 9:00
Girlieee we need more crabby videos
You did your best.
Can you link your preferred heat mat for a 20 gallon tank?
Hey, my hermit crab has a mushy, almost brown abdomen, out of his shell, and lying still under his hut. I came to you for help, is he molting? Thanks.
@Margaret Crimmins tysm :)
How do you sanitize hermit crab shells?
my crab is so much different, he loves being out and hes awake during the day
Love the tank set up! Can you link where you got your tank! I have two small hermit crabs and want to put them in a bigger tank!
Lori you are a great pet keeper and animal lover. Don’t be too hard on yourself! P.S. would LOVE an update on Lemon!!
I’m so sorry!!!! 😢😢😢

I know! I’m sorry, my life has been absolutely insane.
@@LorisHartland aw don't worry about it! you must focus on yourself first💞
Have you always put so much stuff in the tank for them
I feel really sad about the loss. But I LOVE the fact that you adopt and DK NOT buy. Thanks for the tips and advice
Sorry for your loss:(
I love your hermit crab videos, gives me a lot of ideas for my two crabs Julie and Shelby, would you recommend that tank I have a ten gallon and would like to expand???
Hi Lori ! I have a question to you , I need advice . I want to rebuild my habitat , it is 40 gallon and I have 4 crabs . Will take me 4-5 hours to do it . Where I should put them for this long time ? What they need until I can put them back ?
Now you tell me. I came home from Myrtle Beach with 2 of em. Ive got my work cut out for me now.
Yes! Lol
@LorisHartland I'm probably in over $400 by now but I really want about 4 more and to give them a Carowinds kinda place.
Finicky eating habits after all I bought them but one has changed its shell already!
I am so sorry for your loss of your hermit crab😔. Can you do some more videos of Lemon, I haven't seen her in a while.
Hey I have a question about hermit crabs I have two hermit crabs one of them died is it smart to put the shell he was in back in the tank?
Have you ever had mites? And if so howd you treat them
I'm getting a hermit crab soon! 😊😊 but I have a question where can I buy fake leaves so they can hide and climb because I've been looking and I haven't found anything that I like yet so do you have any idea where I can get some leaves?
I get so excited to see gunner and sponge bob 🥺
I also have bad news... literally just earlier tonight my hermit crab Jason-Billy most likely died. I'm about 95% sure he dead but I'm so confused I did everything you said and then his claw fell of and then either because of that or not he most likely died. There is some evidence to him molting but a lot more to his death.
Edit: yep he's dead
Edit 2: there is some changes.
Edit 3: now that I think about it I got the hermit crabs from my friend and he had a small plastic carrier tank with gravel and the sponge as there water and pellets in a bottle cap for food with nothing else
Edit 4: he's dead
So sorry
Also are you able to do a video on where you can you buy them?
Where did you get your tortoise and box turtle from
So sorry about the loss ik how it feels but the tank looks amazing! 💕also what live plants could I put in their tank? and also my hermit crabs fought idk why but what could i do if there is anything? but I've always loved your videos!❤❤😊
I wanted to ask what size tank that is because I want to get it for my hermit crab, and I'm sorry for your loss it's so sad when things like that happen
Can i ask how did you breed your hermit crabs? Thanks ♥
you don't they catch them in the wild. its almost impossible to breed hermit crabs in captivity
Sorry about your new crabby
