We've been creating hermit crab habitats, terrariums and vivariums for decades... this [Ikea Milsbo Hermit Crab Habitat Hack in video) is our biggest hermit crab hack so far! We ONLY have Purple Pinchers because they are the most resilient of all the hermit crabs found within the pet industry. Most all of our hermit crab pets live past 20 years. We do not take them from the wild. Purple Pinchers are also known as Tree Crabs because when you see them on islands in the Florida Keys and in the Caribbean, they are found climbing all over trees and mangroves.
Our hermit crab habitats are TALL to accomodate the natural instincts of our purple pinchers to climb up, explore and forage. They are natural explorers, climbers and scavengers and CRAVE lots of stimulation, activity and a wide variety of fresh healthy foods.

Thanks for this I am going to be owning hermit crabs soon and will take all the knowledge I can get!😊
Thanks for taking the time to leave this comment! It's awesome that you're doing the research before you get them, they will clearly be well cared for!! 🙌
@@hermitcrabpetsyour videos are a lifesaver! I inherited 3 hermit crabs from niece, who just went away to college & didn’t even know to begin with proper care. Your videos have been an awesome guide. Have had them for almost 4 months, & they’re thriving….very much appreciate you sharing all this info 🤗
Can I ask you where you got your tank? In need of new setup similar to yours
The faucet water thing isn’t entirely true.
If you have a well in your backyard and don’t get city water, then it’s OK, as long as there’s nothing added to the water.
Yep, agreed (well water is generally way better than municipal)! But as a generic point to others reading this that may have well water... get a $15 water tester on Amazon if you're using well water so you know what's in it. While it won't have the added chlorine, ammonia, fluoride etc like city water... it still may have contaminants (ex. chemical seepage from neighboring properties, corrosion/metals/rust from old piping etc). I've personally uses Amquel Plus for many, many years to detoxify water for hermit crabs and reef tank with great results. Overall the best water is RO Water (subject for another video!). Great comment, thanks!
When washing stuff for hermit crabs like food and accessories, can I wash with tap water or do I need to use dechlorified water?
Yep, perfectly fine to wash food and accessories with tap water. Great question!
I’m planning getting live plants for my hermit crab. What kind are safe and how should I wash them throughly?
Thanks for the advice. I want Indicus Arelius Gladicus III to last me at least 10 years.
YOU WIN "MOST EPIC HERMIT CRAB PET NAME" EVER!!!! This made me LAUGH OUT LOUD, thanks for that! 😆 The fact that you're watching hermit crab videos online means he's gonna be sooo well cared for... he'll live past 20 years old easily!!! 🙌
@@hermitcrabpets Thanks 😂 always make sure to give him/her fresh food. Loves millet, berries, river shrimp and the occasional coconut. They are our second smallest but has always been the most comfortable with the biggest personality, and always does a nightly jog around the tank lol
I run my water through a berkey and also use the water prime with it.
LOVE THIS
Tysm so much! I just got a cute hermit crab :3
Why no sphagnum?
Crab central station says to use faucet water but use seachem prime......
for part 1, better to use bottled water, its much easier
Praise the LORD for creating these awesome crabs!
Yes 🙌 I have two
Great video thank you!
Thanks so much for taking the time to leave this comment, much appreciated and so very glad you liked the video! 😃
I’ll have to get sand for my crab I had no idea rocks were so bad for them why do stores sell this stuff
Is well water fine for them bc thats what i have been using and it has no chlorine in it
Great question! Well water is normally way better than tap/faucet water because there are no added chemicals like chlorine, ammonia etc.. BUT sometimes well water has high levels of metals due to old metal pipes, so just make sure you know the quality of your well water. Traces of metals or chemicals that won't affect us humans will affect tiny hermit crabs no matter where the water comes from. Products like Amquel Plus are an easy way to neutralize and condition water if there's any doubt. Thanks for watching this video and your great question!
I am going to be giving my hermit crabs faucet water but I will use prime, a water conditioner
Perfect! I've used Amquel Plus for many years but there are many other brands that work great.
Do you know what I should do if my hermit crabs give birth? Haven’t been able to find any info online 😔
they don’t usually breed at all in captivity!
Its weird you had to list no garlic, onion and no sugary foods. Im confused how anyone thought those were good foods for hermit crabs? Lol
Some children feed their crabs candy and burgers etc. and parents allow it
@@adrianayounggyeah, unfortunately parents think they’re great pets for kids & believe they’re “low maintenance beginner pets” 😢
@@isitoveryet9525 Yes, far from. I had a friend get a crab they won at a fair and she was very upset to find out what it takes to take care of it. She stopped talking to me after I told her about upkeep and everything I have for mine. I think it made her mad that I was informing her.
What about muh benis?
