I got 4 crabs on my vacation and my mom (who works at a pet shop) ended up getting 40 crabs but they only ordered 10 so she brought home 2 I now have six...
      names:
      Scuttle
      Diamond
      Sahara (like the desert)
      Pearl
      Spot
      Spruce (like the tree)

ive had my one of my hermit crabs, Shelldon for almost a year and i got my other hermit crab, Star in December and im still watching care videos so that i can give them the best life possible and ive mostly been watching yours because your hermit crabs obviously have amazing lives and an amazing owner who knows all about them! I knew not to get another hermit crab when i got star but Shelldon was really lonely because he was the only one in the big tank. Thank you for being an amazing hermit crab owner!

Once I put one of my hermit crabs on my bed with a ton of different shells (and this was only two months after I got him) and he changed shells right in front of me and my boyfriend 6 times!!! He tried out different shells 6 times then kept going back into his old one. It was a super cool experience to know that he wasn’t afraid us and felt safe enough to expose himself like that. We were laying on the bed right next to him!

I got the 20 gallon tank. substrate and hiding spots and a 30 variety turbo shell bag. I have the food and everything. You said they were social creatures so I did go out and buy two more a month later. They are purple pinchers and molt every 3-4 months. I DO NOT handle them but I do clean their enclosure. I want to eventually put them in a 50 gallon tank. Is there anything I should do to ready them for the move? Like mix their old substrate with new or can they just start fresh?. Hey Lori!
Firstly I just wanted to say thankyou for making these amazing, informative videos teaching people about proper pet care :)
I've tried to message you on Twitter but I don't think you got it.
    The situation is:
-I have a ten gallon tropical fish tank
-There are 2 female guppies, 1 male Molly and 2 corydoras.
-Recently my fish have been laying at the bottom of the tank.
-Swimming really quickly, sometimes upsidedown. Almost as if they have no control over it
-Laying upsidedown,I have to manually flip them over otherwise they won't.
-I've tested for the basic things, ammonia etc but the water parameters after completely safe.
I'm really not sure what's happening and would appreciate ANYONE leaving suggestions in the comments
    Thankyou :)

I don't get why people hate on pet stuff so much. I understand it's important for proper care for pets, but there is a right way to address stuff. People don't have to be rude about it and attack people. It's like they assume different people are doing things on purpose. I just wanted to say something about that. I do advocate for good pet care, and I do the best I can myself, but I get tired of people judging and attacking people with animals.
Anyway, I was actually surprised to hear people are attacking her. She is very knowledgeable on hermit crabs. People should know that if they do their research.

@@victoriascata4455 Everything I've read from long-term crabbers is that there are a variety of methods that work and in which crabs can thrive. European crabbers do things differently and reportedly have better success with exotic species than we do in the U.S. If recognizing that different care methods work in different situations means I'm "defending bad care," so be it.
Concern trolling is a particular type of trolling in which someone comes along to inform another of all they're doing wrong in caring for an animal out of feigned concern for the animal. The real motivation is a sense of superiority, whether in knowledge, care, or both. It's quite obvious you relish in this behavior, so yes, labeling you a concern troll was appropriate.

I am curious as to how your crabs are so small? We adopted a crab that is at least 8 years old and he is in a 3 inch opening shell. We have a working theory that when provided bigger shells, and they choose them and then molt in them, they actually seem from our observation to grow to fit the size of shell avaliable. I guess this is a survival technique due to the lack of shells in the wild. I wonder if you provide bigger shells if they will get bigger? We have to offer a large variety in all of our tanks because we have varying sizes and sometimes we notice a smaller crab take a shell way to big and then when it comes back from a molt, it fits. We obviously can't prove this fact but it is something we are strongly considering and it honeslty makes sense from the wild aspect of these animals. We are still observing this, especially with our captive bred babies to see any differences, but it is still a curiosity we have as hermit crab owners of several hermit crabs.

Crab Central Station interesting theory! I offer several size options for each crab but they move around when they feel like it mostly. I also exchange shells out too, I have a lot! But I will say gunner has at least tripled in size since I got him, he was so tiny. 💗

Humidity is what they breathe with, they may not be active because they cannot breathe right without the right humidity! They have gills, not lungs. Saltwater is also essential to their health, which could be another reason why they are not moving much. Missing these essentials basically means your hermits are slowly dying, which can be reversed if corrected soon enough.

When we got ours we bought several more because well we didn't know. After researching stuff we ended up investing a few hundred into a better set up and a lot of different foods. I got a box of instant ocean salt because we go through a lot of water with so many crabs. I don't don't let anyone hold our crabs ever. We have been asked and I just say no because they don't like being held plus people have all kinds of stuff they put on skin like lotions I don't want my crabs getting contact with that. We love them a lot but lesson learned. I tell anyone who (loves) looking at our crabs or if they find out we have them do not buy them. It isn't a good (pet) ect. Hai! I want to get a hermit crab and im looking on all your videos for advice- Im having trouble finding a good tank that is big enough for the crabs but small enough to put on my dresser since I have no other place to put him. the max length of the top of my dresser is 33 inches, the max width is 15, and max height to the wall is 25 (I made sure to leave enough extra space on the edges when measuring even with the max measurmenrs the tnak wouldnt be too close to the edges) I want to try to find a tank that also has the double doors so its easier to change there food and water and to mist without messing up their environment. Im really im a hole so any advice would be deeply appriciated

Spike is currently molting and is double the size from when I purchased him. I actually just purchased 2 more and they are adjusting quite well. I haven’t placed the new ones in the tank yet, I did not want them to bother Spike while molting. I do have a question, Spike has been molting for about 2 months now but he’s about 3-4 inches prior to molting.
