    Great video 👍 I have always used boots and recently I got trail runners and wow they made such a difference on my feet probably wouldn’t go back to boots unless I’m in the snow lol

      @@jmcadventures3883 Morning mate, I’m thinking the same, trail runners all the time unless I’m heading into a bog fest 😂. The comfort for the feet are amazing and the grip is unreal. Can I ask what runners you are using?

      @ yea it’s definitely a good topic to chat about. I definitely think the downside of them is the no ankle support when I’m coming down mountains I definitely am way more cautious lol

    Great stuff mate !!! I was fell racing a couple of years ago at a half decent level and I swore by my innov8 talons or for harsher underfoot conditions the mudclaws both fantastic!!! You made some great points mate thought it was really useful!!!!! The mournes Mountain man at his best ATB Simon

      @@YONDERMOUNTAINADVENTURES fantastic Simon 👍. Mighty, I’d love to do a few races over the mountains myself, would you recommend it over road running? That’s a few people saying about the innov8 and the mudclaws, I’ll be looking at them over the weekend sometime. Cheers for watching and giving some advice 👍.

    I'm afraid I need the ankle support of a good pair of boots.
    At the moment I'm using Salewa Mountain Trainer Gore-tex Boots, they are reasonably light, use the Vibram WTC sole and have the great 3F support system. They've been happily hugging my feet for a couple of years now 😁

      @@ExploreAboveAndBelow mighty Morgan, definitely everyone has their preferences, like you say ankle support is needed and you’ve went for a bit of a mix there between boot and trainer. I really feel comfortable with vibram sole, gives you a lot of confidence planting your feet. Cheers for watching and leaving your thoughts, it’s very much appreciated 👍

    Until recently I was doing 6 miles before work, just walking, up the forestry roads. I switched from full on boots to trainers, mostly Inov8’s. The weight and performance was great. But as I ventured back to more rugged terrain I went to boots, still Inov8 or Merrell but GTX. Never ever bought at full price as could never justify full price. Those canvas gtx type boots fail eventually, leather more forgiving and treatable. Anything over the ankle with shoes forget GTX , what’s the point. Take the soaking and dry out for next day. I had some cheap Soil Shaker shoes, they took a pounding, never made it into the house after their first outing, sat outside and went on the next day dry or not 😂

      @@cowalexplorer brilliant reply Fraser 👍. I see a lot of people mentioning the inov8 brand I might go with them for the next pair. It’s like most things with the price nowadays I try and wait for the bargains. I bought a pair of Scott’s last week and the grip is nothing compared to the Merrells.

    Good topic Geoff. As you say it's all very personal when it comes to footwear. I am old school, I always wear boots, should it be lightweight mid boots in summer or heavier leather boots in winter. I need the ankle support to avoid the old ankle roll but I have friends that swear by the trail runner.

    • @GeoffGreenawayOutdoors
      @GeoffGreenawayOutdoors  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@alanlyness8413 cheers Alan. It’s definitely a personal choice and whatever you feel most comfortable in mate. Ankle support in very important on the mountains. Would you have any preference in brands of boots? I do love the trail runner but horses for courses.

      @GeoffGreenawayOutdoors If you like the trail runners, get yourself a set of short trail gaiters. Brings them up a level in my opinion. Boot wise, I used to like Scarpa I don't know if my feet changed or the boots are made different now but the are very narrow fitting. My go to summer boot is now the Solomon Ultra gortex ( very grippy boot but I go through a pair every year as the soles dont last me ) and my winter boot is Meindl Bhuthan which hand on heart is the most comfortable leather boot I have ever owned and has the Vibram sole.

      @ nice one Alan, I must look them boots up, I’d be the same going through a pair every year but I’m hoping switching to the runners will prolong the life span of the boots and runners.

    Have a pair of altras , not waterproof at all so would only wear in good weather . Have a pair of salomons which I wear all the time now , leave my scarpas at home unless the snow comes :-) Hate wet feet so try my best to keep them dry 👌

    Footwear so important in the mountains, but I'd say it's a bit of personnel choice. If paths are good, then decent trainers would work, no paths then boots are a must, in between then whatever is good for you. Good debate though! Regars, Ashley

      @GeoffGreenawayOutdoors  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ashleyjarnold definitely very important mate, I always try to mentally think the route out in my head first and if it’s a good pathed out trail I would sway to the runners these days but if we are trampy through the depths of the western Mournes it will be boots. Have a great trip to new Zealand I look forward to seeing more TH-cam shorts 👍
