I tow about 7K lbs on a fairly regular basis and have now owned both the the 3.5 400 hp and the GM 6.2 and while the 3.5 offers slightly better low end grunt than the 6.2 ( barely noticeable ) the 6.2 is superior on the long up hills because the turbos suffer from heat soak on the long high RPM low road speed pulls ( lack of air to the inter coolers ). I will probably switch back to the GM 6.2 in the coming years. Ford and GM make it very tough to pick a full size SUV these days.

So many people worry about reliability of turbocharged motors and 10speed transmissions yet only keep their cars for 125-150,000 miles. In this time both cars will get you to wherever you are going. Now at 200,000+ we might see a difference but for 99% of people out there just buy the car you like the most. With all these people leasing cars and trading them in as soon as they are paid off, or even before, reliability really really shouldn’t be too much of a concern.

Now add two electric motors to that drivetrain. The new 2023 Sequoia is going to have just that. It would have been the first hybrid body on frame SUV if GM did not release the Tahoe hybrid in 2008.

Alex, the change holder is fords quick way to fill the hole where the trailer backup assist module goes. In previous generation you got the change holder or 4x4 selector. As for the ride it took the Tahoe platform to get to 2021 to get IRS. As you mentioned Expedition added IRS and air ride all the way back in 2006 and is still a great ride for suv category in my opinion. The fold flat electric seats in Expedition have been ahead of GM for years because of not having a live axle. My 2011 limited with 183k miles is still a solid machine and hope to save up for used of lease 2019 soon. I do agree Ford is always behind on updating Expedition.

They should have never sold the Land Rover brand. They learned a lot from design from them. The SUV is an “upscale” truck market. Essentially, you are hauling “people instead of material”. SUVs are meant for off-road adventures that take long distances to get there. You want a great interior to make the long hauls enjoyable. You still need to tow every now and then in additions to brining a bunch of stuff (which this ticks those boxes). I put a deposit on the Rivian R1S. I don’t town that much, if you do, you might want to wait for the 400 mile variant. Also the gas V6 defender 110 is also a good option.

I'm a Chevy guy when it comes to full size SUVs, had a 2012 Tahoe then a 2018 Tahoe (still have it), and also I hate Ford in general, but after that last generation of Yukon/Tahoe over complicated design (and particularly ugly in Tahoe), I admit I prefer Expedition simple straight forward design. Pricing wise, this whole segment is going crazy!!! They are almost on the pricing level of Range Rover!!!

I agree with you on the price rise of the “big” 3rd row SUV. I personally am a Chevy fan and have had Silverado’s all my life. I drive a Tahoe for work and I love them. However, with the price gauge that gm expects to receive on their Tahoe’s/Yukons, Expeditions are more practical. I drove my mothers expedition and I am in love. The power, the turn radius, the smooth ride, and the quietness out weight the Tahoe in my opinion.

I was just thinking that the profile of this thing looked like the Navigator. Forgot they were stable mates. Me personally, I put over 200k miles on my cars in less than ten years. Reliability is a big deal. I know the Europeans have had turbos for a while, but they don't drive as much as we do over here (and their cars are far less reliable). Turbos tend to scare me a bit. But I know Ford's trucks and SUV's are very reliable, so I would roll the dice with the Expedition versus the Chevy (that is unless Toyota got off their butts and finally redid their large SUV lineup).

This Expedition, along with the Explorer, are two of the best looking SUVs ever penned. These two, as well as the new F-150, combine to make a very dominant section of the market. At the outset, I was disappointed that the 5.0 V8 was not even offered on the Expedition. Now, hamstrung by cylinder deactivation, any model in which it is offered at an obvious disadvantage. The Ecoboost and PowerBoost twin turbo V6s bury the V8 in payload, towing, bhp and torque. I continue to read about RV owners that still screw up safe towing capacity, pin weight and GVWR; refusing to weigh their rigs, especially travel trailers. The F-150 or 250 HD are at the top of my list because I'm buying a 5th wheel.

THANK YOU Motor Trend Auto Mundial for having the "nads" to say that the new Ford Expedition's (the King Ranch was the model reviewed...but, what I'm saying certainly isn't exclusive to it in any way) interior is "cheapened" by the vast amount of plastics used. I totally agree! I've been harping about that very same thing for a couple of decades now...and, I'm talking about all of the brands of domestic, and import offerings here in the United States. To pay the "luxury" prices for the top-of-the-line models, one should expect that the same word applies to the interiors of the vehicles that some will spend more time in than they spend at home. Sure I like looks, performance, and speed just as much as the next person does. But comfort, fit, and finish should reflect the absorbidant about of money spent.

the tahoe has always had a 2 row option, it wasnt a dedicated trim, it was called "custom" and it was a -4000 dollar package that basically stripped it the same way ford does on that XL trim. I guess the 2 row tahoe sells well enough that ford could justify it.
When towing with the 10 speed its very safe to just cut off 10th gear, 9th and 10th are so close that theres no reason to have 10th (9th is a .69:1 and 10th is .63:1)

3:52 until 2023. Toyota will probably even add the hybrid system from the Tundra. Plus, you can now equip the ecoboost in the expedition to make 440HP from the factory...not sure why they couldn't add 10HP though. Toyota's version of the ecoboost makes about 348 in the SR5 tundra, 389 in every other trim (don't know why), and 409 in the Land Cruiser/LX600. Torque is about 480 lb-ft without the hybrid. So it should be competitive with the base engine in the expedition. The hybrid will have about 437HP and over 500 lb-ft of torque.

Also GM has had bad air conditioner condensers in there newer vehicles if you do some research on em they all have there issues but the past 6 years or so Ford has been better quality not as flashy and Goudy but they usually don’t release a new design every two years to where you look like your in a old model ....

The Grand Cherokee L is likely to be significantly smaller, so I don't think it is a real competitor. The pushbutton shifter in the Tahoe is a deal-breaker for me. Also, I really don't like how tall the Tahoekonaliburbanslade's hood has become in this new model.
