    Low coolant while towing (from a leaking EGR cooler) I believe led to my ED pushing a head gasket. Once the EGR is cooler deleted that risk is gone.
    Fwiw the engine had 371,000 miles so I did not repair it. I bought a factory complete replacement engine. It included 100k warranty new turbo & high pressure fuel pump drop in ready for $7500. I removed the EGR cooler from that one and ran it commercially towing for 423,000 miles.

    What he is really doing here is showing you disassembly so you can take that shit and throw it at your nearest politician!

    You're a awesome wrench man! How long did it take you? My '16 is going in this week. They're saying it'll be done by the end of the day.

    Is this something I can tackle as DIY person, or should I go to the mechanic? thanks

    Do you have to take the whole cooler assembly off to clean the valve or can you just take the back of the valve off?

    If I'm losing coolant from the egr cooler, would I be smelling coolant from the engine bay after driving?

    Could you put a link to the vacuum device you used to put a vacuum on the coolant reservoir? Thanks!

    Do you recommend any other inspection or maintenance on the ecodiesel? Any particular areas more prone to problems. The soot inside the intake manifold seems like a real engineering failure. I only have 55,000 miles on a 2014 but can see loads of soot inside the intake, and the oil mist going into the turbo worries me

      It's not that easy to build problem free diesels with all these federal emission mandates. Sprinters had exactly same issue with their 3.0 CDI engines. Recirculating exhaust gasses together with oil vapors is just not the best idea. I had bunch of turbo coolant hoses cracked/broken and leaking under the intake manifold usually around the 100k mark, so definitely replace that hose/line once servicing the intake manifold.

    Excellent video thank you for the tips makes me want to keep my ecodiesel now. One question if you don't mind since it is a recall on the egr is there a noticeable difference in the egr cooler quality? One would think that if they made it a recall they would change the egr cooler so one can't loose engine coolant anymore. What is your opion on this ?

      @TDRAuto  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Supposedly they made the insides stronger, so far I think it works as I didn't see any Ecodiesels coming in with loosing coolant or with restrictions. You're not going to notice any difference unless your cooler is restricted or leaks.

    The EGR valve was fixed under recall in 2019. Are the repaired ones still failing?

    How much does a job like that cost, anyone know? Thinking about having my egr and manifold as well as bank 1 and 2 cleaned. I have any engine code for bank 1 and 2!

    Is it possible to change just the Egr valve without pulling the cooler?

    • @TDRAuto
      @TDRAuto  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not on EcoDiesel, it’s only available as an assembly.

    HI. Mine start leaking external from manifold seals I think. Is it worth it to replace egr cooler or just seals?

    • @TDRAuto
      @TDRAuto  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Has your cooler been replaced already (VB1 recall)? Check with your dealer, otherwise if no codes, I’d replace the O- rings if that’s what is leaking.
