  • Replacing Intake manifold due to codes P200A / P200B - runners seizing up from too much soot build up. All Ram 1500 and Jeep Grand Cherokees with 3.0 Ecodiesels are affected from this condition, especially when these engines don't see enough highway miles!
I'm working on resolving my audio issues! Currently looking for a better microphone, let me know if you have any tips, thank you!
    06:40 - Fuel tubes removal
    14:07 - Wire harness
    19:12 - Turbo inlet elbow
22:27 - Fuel rail and manifold
    28:48 - Important coolant hose
    33:17 - Manifold install
    41:21 - Fuel tubes install

On another note I really would like to meet the engineer that designed a rubber coolant line to the turbo under the intake manifold that is guaranteed to fail from heat soaking.

Doing a Grand Cherokee right now. Not too bad. Some of the connectors are a real pita but doable. The manifold bolt next to the charge pipe elbow mount is tricky. Plan to reuse the fuel lines, took 45 ft/lbs to break loose. Will retighten to 50ish to ensure good seal. Wire loom removed from driver side and flopped over to passenger side. You can get to the back worm gear clamp on the air intake elbow with 2 8” extensions, a 3” extension, 8mm socket and a worm gear. Slide the socket short extension and worm gear behind the ac lines at the firewall. Makes getting to the connectors on the back of the engine a lot easier.

These engines are litterally designed to fail.. if they want to design these engines this way to meet their federal mandates then these manufacturers should give lifetime warranties. What logical person thinks that recycling sooty exhaust back through the engine is going to last long at all.. they took the cheap way out and left consumers holding the bag

I totally agree, Chrysler has an extended powertrain and emission coverage for 100000 miles, which is pretty good. But doesn't change the fact that the diesel exhaust after-treatment devices are very problematic and pretty costly!

I had to do my first 3.0l intake and watched this video which was great. I bought the 19 mm fuel tube wrench and the craftsman hex sockets. the hard to reach bolt on the elbow came out and on the second bolt the ball broke off the socket in the bolt. this was my first time using them and they were not super tight. I thought I was screwed but I finally got it out using a snap on bolt extractor on the outside of the bolt. I will not be using these craftsman hex sockets on this again. the rear bolts are really hard to get to and have to be done by feel or with a mirror. I have great respect for anyone who does this on a regular basis, one time was too many for me.

EXCELLENT video - very thorough walkthrough of this project. I drive my EcoDiesel 90% of the time on the highway for extended runs from 1 to 6 hours at a time so hopefully the combination of highway miles and an EPA-compliant tune that greatly improves the combustion efficiency will keep soot buildup at a minimum. That turbo coolant hose however... That worries me a bit as I'm still losing a little bit of coolant even after the EGR recall. Haven't seen any on the ground or around the transmission bellhousing and can't think of anywhere else it may be going. No oil contamination base on oil analysis at each oil change. Anyway, thanks for the video!

    • @TDRAuto
      @TDRAuto  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Trust me if you had the hose leaking under the manifold, you would notice it real quick! Some other areas to watch out for coolant leaks are the radiator edges and water pump.

Hey bro, your video helped me out a lot, really respect you for doing this, I have a question though, so I was getting the code to say that bank 2 intake manifold swirl valves error, so I pulled out the intake as per your video, the manifold isn’t that dirty and the valves can move, and I’ve researched that the mechanism can get damaged, I can move the valves but when I move the side that has the diffuser tube it moves both side together, but when I move the other side it moves by itself, does this mean that the mechanism is broken and I should just replace the manifold ? Thank you

Removing and installing intake manifold should not cause an oil leak. Looking for oil leaks around that hard to reach turbo can be frustrating. Might be a good idea to use engine oil dye to pinpoint the location. To service the turbo, the cab should be removed.

    • @Jaysilvacdn

I had to replace the turbo water line not the intake. I had to disconnect the top part of the turbo oil line and bend it out of the way so I could take out the turbo water line. I don’t know how to get to the bottom part of the turbo oil line to disconnect it. it’s so tight. That’s why I bend it. The line is not damaged.
