There's a mentality to martial arts that a lot of people don't understand until they do it. Particularly the sparring side. The amount of discipline and respect you need to have along with a kind of mixture of confidence and humility makes combat sports very unique. I've done martial arts on and off since I was little. In the last few years I stepped back onto those mats my physical and mental wellbeing is so much better. I do better at my job. I'm focused, disciplined and completely un-phased by conflict or politics at work which gets noticed in a good way. Highly recommend martial arts to anyone that feels lost, self critical or anxious. Doesn't have to be Muay Thai, could be kickboxing, TKD, karate. Just needs to be in a proper martial arts gym or dojo, with an experienced instructor.

Proper training with controlled sparring and under a correct supervision, yes, probably.

I started off boxing and then transitioned to an adapted form of karate, martial arts in any regard is a beautiful thing, not just because of the confidence it gives you, but the outlet and the brotherhood of it, I’m in college and haven’t been to a gym in a few months which has really sucked because I love training, but at the gym we have an area with matted floors a punching bag and a few pads, and everyone I meet who trains, no matter who, there’s always a level of respect and brotherhood between martial artists it’s truly amazing

    • @Tr1s

I’m glad to see and hear that your eyes are open! 🙏 It’s a beautiful and honorable martial ART! We in the west are spoiled like you say, and we have no right to judge people that fight or let their children fight. I’m an old fighter (BJJ,boxing, mma and Muay Thai) from Sweden and I would have let my daughter fight but she was never interested so she don’t have to. But it’s really character building to learn to fight/defend yourself at an early age if possible because everything else in life don’t become a big struggle in comparison. Anyway, glad to see you’re positive to this! Chok Dee Krap

I'd say the *most* brutal sport is probably Lethwei (from Myanmar/Burma: basically Muay Thai + headbutts...) but Muay Thai is a great art to learn, whether for self-defence, fitness or cultural interest. Train hard, stay strong and good luck on your martial arts journey. I'm 40 and have been doing martial arts most of my adult life, so I can tell you that you'll have good times, bad times, and learn things about yourself and other people that you'd never know otherwise.

Mui Thai is still brutal and one of the most dangerous martial arts, despite despite all it's rules it trains you to use your ever sigke limbs as weapons to strike with kick, punches, knees, elbows and and execute basic kicks and throws,We all know that mui Thai is very popular martial art amongst adults, and that is very useful in mardern mixed martial arts, but Mui Thai is generally considered as one of the most avressive and denferous martial arts, because it involves a lot of close range combat, and gas no defensive eqipments,Frequent injuries is one of is one of mui Thais Disadvantages, and because those technique involves kicks and arm punches practiconers are more suscitable if forced to the ground,Mui Thai also doesn't use the blobbling and webbing technique we frequently see in other style like traditional boxing.

As a Thai, MUAY Thai teach fighters the GENTLEMEN/WOMEN CODES too. It is the core spirit of the fighting. Respect your teachers, respect your parents and respect your opponents. That is why you never see Muay Thai fighters jump on the fallen opponents to finish them.
However, I am quite wondering, in the “gripping” situation when your kidnappers grap you from behind how can you fight them with MUAY Thai. You can throw them with Judo or attack their ribs with Tae Kwan Do. But my MUAY THAI? Can’t imagine how.

it's basically muay Thai, but no gloves, no weight classes, headbutts are encouraged, and the fight doesn't end when the fighter is knocked out, they are given few minutes to revive their fighter
very dangerous, however it lacks the technicality and talent muay Thai has due to it's unpopularity.

Talking about subcultures, how about doing some video essays on subcultures like the mods, Ton Up boys, outlaw motorcycle clubs, the gay leather and bear subcultures, Kustom Kulture (I recommend you talk to Gene Winfield for this one), football casuals, Sloane Rangers or Rivetheads?

fun fact: muay thai is a cut version of muay boran(ancient muay) which used in war and muay boran was actually developed like MMA so it was MMA before MMA

It was not only Ong bak that showed the power of Muay thai to the world but also Warrior king, both epic movies.

Was out in Thailand a few weeks ago training. Went to an interclub show and saw two 4 year old girls knocking lumps out of each other was a very surreal experience, even if they weren’t being paid for it
