- Today's California Zephyr #5 arrived in Fort Morgan at 0549 MST (7 min. off). Ric had P42s #146 & #207 bring the 8-car train to a single spot-2 car station stop with 2 new patrons to car 2 while 7 passengers stepped from car 7 followed by 2 new fares and a companion boarding car 7. With the passenger service apparently completed the high ball was given followed by a stop call due to a forgotten bag for the duo boarding car 7. Ince the bag was retrieved and safely onboard with its owner, the second proceed call was given and on a clear signal, Ric ramped up the amps moving the consist west toward its next stop at Denver's Union Station.
My thanks to the operating crew for the greetings this morning.
Everyone please stay safe!
Temp: 38 F. Feels like 26 F.
Expected high: one source states 38 F and the other states 54 F.
Sunrise: 0702 MST. Sunset: 1716 MST
Good morning Mike. Entertaining stop this morning. Ric at the stick, nice chat, busy platform, 4 legged traveller and anOops. Enjoy the rest of your day and stay well.
Good morning, Dan; Thank you for stopping by along with the comments. The chat was with an eastern Amiah gent who was making the same trip I have on my bucket list. I do hope they enjoy their trip. The parking area almost emptied out with all the good folks who detrained this morning.
Anyway, have a great Monday. Please take care and stay safe!
Good morning Mike. Perfect Ric approach today. These warm days must have him on his game. LOL Have a great Monday and stay safe.
Good morning, David; Thanks for stopping by as well as the comments. The warm days are on hold out here. Real temp is 41. Wind chill is 30 with a northeast wind 16 to 28 mph. I thought this wind was b=going to be long the front range. So much for that.
Hope that you have a great Monday over there. Please take care and stay safe!
hi Mike thanks for the catch of #5 today. also enjoyed your conversation with the passenger and the information you gave him. have a great day and a safe one.
Good morning, Ken; Thanks for dialing in and the comments. It was different to have Amish boarding a sleeper, yet I have seen that before. I envy them their rail trip. I do hope they enjoy it. Have a great Monday back there. Please take care and stay safe!
That's cool you give the necessary information to people. I'm sure everyone appreciates it. Thanks for sharing the video Mike, you have a restful night!
Good morning, Ken; Thank you for dropping by along with the comments. Many have not traveled by rail much and this was a first-time ride for that couple. Some things I am aware of and some I am not. Oh well.
Have a great Tuesday. Please take care and stay safe!
Good morning Mike! It's good to see the 146 leading this morning after it served the Ski Train the last month and a half.
Good morning, Mike; Thanks for dropping by and the comments. I knew there was something about that engine. It was nice to see back out here.
Have a great Monday up there. Please take care and stay safe!
Good morning, Mike. Great start to the week - heavy roll into Fort Morgan! The jump up into the coach by the "companion" was eloquent. Off now to the retinal md for the monthly shots. You take care & be safe. Enjoy that warmer weather.
Good morning, Jim; Thank you for tuning in as well as the comments. That was a big-time station stop today. Two car action along with the 4-legged companion. The parking area is nearly empty right now. That will change as the week wears on. Hope all goes well with the eye dr. visit.
Please take care and stay safe!
Yeah Mike I'm sure that passenger appreciated all of your detailed information about crew changes and things like that. That's always good to know when you're riding the train. Thanks for doing that and that was a good thing.
Good afternoon, Robert; Thank you for stopping by along with the comments. It was a first trip for that Amish couple, and I envy them the trip back to Chicago. It was nice to strike up a chat with him. Have a great afternoon and evening back there. Looks like you are getting another blast of polar air. We have it now. Take care, stay warm, and safe!
Great catch of #5 this morning. The ride from Denver to Salt Lake City is gorgeous, I have done that ride through the Moffat tunnel several times. The crew from Salt Lake City takes it to Winnemuca and then another crew takes it to Reno. I still have yet to ride the Zephyr over Donner Pass in the Sierras.
Good morning, AJFreeman; I thank you for tuning in as well as the comments. I have not as yet traveled the western part of the route. That may happen later this year. I hope.
Have a great Monday. Please take care and stay safe!
Good Monday morning Mike! Hope that Amish couple enjoy their trip out west and back! Nice that Ric is at the helm for the ride into Denver! It’s a bit cloudy here and 40 degrees, but should be in the low 50’s here today. Have a great Monday out your way Sir! I definitely am here! Mark in Iowa.
Good morning, Mark; Thanks for stopping by along with the comments. I do hope they enjoy that round-about way home. I am somewhat envious of them. MY turn will come.
The wind freshened out here from the northeast at 16 to 28 mph. It is 41 F and feels like 30 F. Oh well. Tomorrow back to the 60s for an hour or two.
Please take care and stat safe back there.
The bag had toys in it for the dog . Mike have a good day
Good morning, Kenny; Thanks for tuning in and the comments. That I would not doubt. LOL! The car has Texas plates on it. May be a trip to Glenwood Springs for them.
Have a great Monday back there. Please take care and stay safe!
Good morning sir. Now you can go home & stretch out in your recliner with your coffee. May your day be blessed & thank you for # 5.👋😉💥😎💜💚💛
Good morning, Carolyn; Thanks for dialing in as well as the comments. I don't have a recliner but do have a glider that works very well instead of. It is really comfortable. Nap time later, LOL!
Have a great Monday down there.
Please take care and stay safe! 😎
👋👌👍👍🌬🌬
When I worked at Amtrak the OAK crew went all the way to Lovelock before the SLC crew took over and there were constant problems with the SLC crews dying on the law before making it to Lovelock which usually required a fresh crew being flown to Winnemucca and carryalled to wherever the train was
Again, thank you for dialing in and the comments / info. Having studied the track profile west from SLC, it seemed there was at least one crew change between there and Reno. Just unsure where. That has happened out here with a stranded crew between here and McCook. A crew was flown to McCook and taxied west from there to near the Colo/Neb state line.
Again, I appreciate the info. My turn on the west side may come later this year and I'll get to experience that run. Please take care and stay safe!
0:55 they change at Winnemuca and Reno fyi 😊
Good morning and thanks for the info. Shows how many times I have been west of Denver on the Zephyr.
Please take care and stay safe!
Mike the Salt lake crew goes to Winnemucca then there’s a two person crew to Reno where the Oakland crew finishes the trip
Good afternoon and thanks for the info. I am not familiar with much beyond Denver as far as the Zephyr route. I do appreciate the info.
Howdy everyone & Mike, aiustralia is all asleep, 🤣🤣
Good day, Robo; Thank you for sneaking in while others sleep in Australia. I appreciate it. Please take care, stay cool, and safe!
Good morning Mike from 46 sunny mid Tenn. What a week upcoming in the 60 s & thunderstorms. That's winter they say,?? Have you found your prairie dog forecast yet to determine the accuracy of the PA varmit?
Good morning, Ben; I thank you for tuning in along with the comments. It is 41 F here at 1005 MST with a stiff wind from the northeast providing a wind chill of 30 F. or maybe lower. LOL! Nope. The prairie puppies are hibernating yet. Little critters won't come out and play for a while. That PA Phill and his counterpart in Ohio "Buckeye Chuck" need to get it together. I will favor P. Phil today. LOL!
Have a great Monday. Plese take care and stay safe!
Good morning. I hope you have a great week. I wondered about that suitcase. Was in still in the vehicle, the trunk perhaps? Or just left sitting in the open? I think they hadn’t done a bag count!
Good afternoon, Paul; Thanks for looking in as well as the comments. I think it was left in the car. They were parked next to me in the parking area, and I noticed the light was on in the vehicle. May have a very dead battery when they return. The car had plates from Texas. I am thinking they were headed to Glenwood Springs for a few days.
Hope that you have a great afternoon and evening over there. Please take care and stay safe!
Stop the train! My luggage! Some people’s kids… !! Lol
Goodmorning, Meg; I thank you for stopping by and the comments. They almost had everything. LOL! At least they discovered it before the train really got moving.
Have a great Monday. Please take care and stay safe!
I think the crew's swap out again in Reno, Mike... My guess... Good video..
Good morning, Stephen; Thank you for dropping by as well as the comments. I did get correct info with a stop in Winnemuca and Reno. I was fairly sure about Reno. The twisty-turney track structure out there would make it right for two stops after SLC. My knowledge is not firsthand, yet. Maybe later this year.
Have a great Monday. Please take care and stay safe!
They change the crew in Reno Nv and they take it into Emeryville
Good morning, and thanks for tuning in along with the info. I was sure of Reno but found put that Winnemuca is also a crew change station. Shows how many times I have been west of Denver. LOL! Have a great Monday. Please take care and stay safe!
Why does someone read the numbers of the engines?
Good evening, Roger; Thank you for dropping by and the question. I say the engine numbers as a double check to myself as I audit the videos before posting. It is habit I generated a long time ago and have not given up.
Have a great evening. Please take care and stay safe!
The passenger waiting and boarding arrangements aren't exactly the best and pax try to fit in as best they can. Doesn't always work out.
Such is life in rural America. That's why I despise urban life.
Please take care and stay safe!
