- Today's California Zephyr #5 arrived in Fort Morgan at 0555 MST (11 min. tardy due to meeting #6 at Max, NE). P40 #824 & P42 #56 provided the power as they brought the 8-car train to a stop with car to the station ramp for passenger service to 2 new fares. I believe them t be first timer rail riders as they waited for the conductor to invite them onboard. Oh well. With the new fares safely aboard, the high ball was given and on a clear signal at west Ft. Morgan CP the Zephyr continued its westward journey with the next stop at Union Station in Denver.
Everyone please stay safe!
Temp: 21 F. Feels like -1 F.
Expected high: 32 F.
Sunrise: 0657 MST. Sunset: 1732 MST
Hi Mike-the conductor needs to take a happy pill, especially in his line of work (crab butt)Oh well thanks for the coverage of #5 & enjoy the weekend, anticipating the Super Bowl I bet!,your rail pal, Jeb 😊
Good afternoon, Jeb; Thanks for tuning in along with the comments. He does know how to smile once in a while. LOL! That may have been in response to the adage on my ball cap today - "Grumpy Old Vet". LOL!
Anyway, have a great Saturday afternoon and evening. I'm rooting for the Broken Bow Archers to win the bowl. LOL 😂🤔🤣! I think there is an emergency screening of "The Wizard of Oz" in the same timeframe as the Super bowl.
Please take care and stay safe!
I have been side tracked so many times so I had to make myself sit down even if only tosay hello. Hope the day has gone well for you. MAY the rest of the day be blessed & thx for our girl. !!!.👋🥰💥😎💜💚💛🏈
Good evening, Carolyn; Thanks for stopping by and the comments. It has to be something in the air Carolyn. I have been kind of ditzy today as well. Anyway, I hope that you have a great evening. Please take care and stay safe! 🤪🤓👋👍👌🌞🌞
Mornin" Mike! Think I'm going to watch #5 this PM from the parking lot of the Neighborhood Walmart on the I-70 business loop as it comes into Grand Junction.
Good morning, and thanks for stopping by along with the comments. I think l I would be doing the same if I was over there. LOL! Have a great Saturday. Please take care and stay safe!
Good morning Mike and thanks for the daily Zephyr video. Winter Storm Warning for my area of Massachusetts with 6-8 inches expected overnight.....There is also big passenger rail news in my area too! The long overdue South Coast Rail service has just announced an opening date of March 24th. This will bring service to Boston for the cities of New Bedford, Fall River and Taunton for the first time since 1959. This is ex New Haven territory, though the original area tracks were laid by the long defunct Old Colony RR in the 1840s. Several Class 3 freights have and will continue to run local trains to area customers (currently Mass Coastal Railroad which interchanges with CSX), but the track/signal upgrades and the return of passenger service is big news to many area residents and railfans alike.........Hope all is well for you this weekend, and thanks again for your daily videos.
Good afternoon, Timothy; Thank you for dialing in and the comments. That is some great rail world news for back there. I had seen a couple of short notes but not what you explained. I'd be there to witness the rebirth of the action.
As for the storm warnings, I hope they are wrong unless you need the moisture. I would like that much out here after I return from a road trip into the Denver metro area on Tuesday morning. We are to get more of the arctic air mass from Siberia starting tomorrow night and continuing thru Friday.
Anyway, have a great Saturday afternoon and evening back there.
Please take care and stay safe!
I was rather touched when I heard the conductor say "Where are you going?" Again it reminded me of stagecoach days ; only this time it was a great silver stagecoach !
Good morning, Norman; Thanks for stopping by and the comments. It isn't often that I pick that up but is does get asked a lot.
Have a great Saturday. Please take care and stay safe!
Good morning Mike and Mike's viewers 😊 you would think passengers would be standing at the ready especially when the train was late. Oh well just my way of thinking. Wind has stopped for now, no moisture overnight but hopefully some coming next week. Everyone have a great weekend and stay safe wherever you are.
Good morning, David; Thank you for dropping by and the comments. I have to give them credit as they stayed where they could see the train. Just didn't move to the platform until invited. I am sure they are first timers.
We got about 5 flakes of snow overnight. Really don't need anymore, right now. But I am sure it will ruin the road trip planned for Tuesday morning. I can wait until we get back from Broomfield. Anyhow, have a great Saturday up there. Please take care and stay safe!
Good afternoon Mike a great job done Stay warm there my friend
Good afternoon, James; Thank you for dialing in as well as the comments. I hope all is good up there. Please take care, stay warm, and safe!
Good morning Mike! Keep warm!!!!
Good morning, BBQRando; I thank you for dialing in and the comment. I appreciate it. Shouldn't be too bad today. But look out Monday!
Have a great Saturday down there.
Please take care and stay safe!
hi Mike thanks for the catch of #5 today. maybe the conductor was having a bad day. have a great day and a safe one.
Good morning, Ken; I thank you for dialing in as well as the comments. He has learned some ways from his lead conductor. Or he was taking the adage on my cap "Grumpy Old Veteran" to heart. LOL! That crew returns to Lincoln tonight with the #6 train. Just hope it isn't 5 hours+ late as today's #6 is.
Anyway, have a great Saturday back there in the valley. Please take care and stay safe!
Mor ing Mike, & all viewing fans, very hot here on a Sunday afternoon, 🍺🍺🇦🇺
Good evening, Robo; Thanks for dialing in as well as the comments. I hope that you are able to stay cool. Please take care and stay safe!
Happy Saturday, Mike. You still have those low morning temps. 59° now, but will get up to mid-60s by early afternoon. Keep the faith - warmer weather is on the way to you. Real cordial AC, don't think? Who knows, coulda been a long night. Stay safe, take care
Good morning, Jim; Thank you for dialing in along with the comments. Its 19 F right now (0840 MST) I'd like to have those temps for a day or two so I could get the Subaru started and running on all 4 again. Lots of condensate in the fuel system. UGH! I'll get it yet. That warmer weather isn't in the cards just yet. Monday, we head down the scale with highs only around 12 F. I have a road trip scheduled for Tuesday and they are promising snow and colder temperatures for Tuesday thru Friday. Oh well. It is still midwinter.
One will only see that type of action at these rural stations. I was impressed. That was a typical reaction from first time riders.
Anyway, have a great Saturday back there. Please take care and stay safe!
Good Saturday morning Mike! Currently cloudy and 27 degrees at 08:31 AM Iowa time. Good to see number 5 made it through in a timely fashion this morning! Hope you’re warming up some there! Have a great day out your direction Sir! I am managing to stay comfortable here in the Heartland! I did see a wave from inside the cafe car. Mark in Iowa.
Good morning, Mark; Thanks for dropping by along with the comments. Think I just saw 19 F. on the monitor corner. Sun is shining and the wind has calmed a bit. Not near as warm today but maybe I can get the Subaru started and running again. Lots of condensate in the fuel system.
Have a great Saturday back there. Please take care and stay safe!
Yeah good morning Mike sounds like sometimes the first time train Ryder has to just be invited on board. Anyway I remember when I first wrote a train I was excited all about it. The second time I wrote a train with some Lincoln Nebraska to Chicago then to Kalamazoo or battle creek. And the first time I was from Flint Michigan to East Lansing Michigan when I was in high school.
Never forget my first train ride. A very hot summer day in Texas. No AC of course. The soot from the steam locomotive blew into the open coach windows and we all got filthy. I was very small and my mother through a fit.
Good morning, Robert; I thank you for dialing in along with the comments. I recall riding a RI local from Belleville, Kansas to Fairbury, Nebraska with mother. It was a weekend trip, and my father followed later with the car. There were several other trips I remember as well. Working on one for this September. Here to NOLA and return.
Anyway, have a great Saturday back there. Plese take care, stay warm, and safe!
@@LynneFarr Good morning, Lynne; Thanks for stopping by and the comments. That sounds like one I would have relished. I am sure my parents would have reacted the same way though. For me, the dirtier, the better. LOL!
Have a great Saturday. Please take care and stay safe!
Good morning Mike from 67 mid Tenn. Mother nature it seems can't make up her mind. Is it winter or spring? February is usually the most harsh time here but what's going on? The varmit said "6 more weeks of winter BUT??? Go have yourself a good breakfast. Don't look for KJ since #6 was 6 hours late last night. He is probably still sacked out.
Good afternoon, Ben; I'd like to have some of that 67 F back there. We're doing 25 F at 1035 MST. Plenty of sunshine but little warmth. We go back into the freezer tomorrow and continue thru next week. It is my understanding that the prairie dog that was asked about the weather just laughed and scampered back down the hole for another 6 months. They decided to just skip spring and go directly to August. LOL! Nope I know Marne didn't get #6 at 0223 MST this morning. But he did respond to this video, so I know he is awake. LOL!
Have a great afternoon and evening back there. Please take care and stay safe!
P40's. On the head of the consist a step back in time.🤔🤔🤔😕
Yep. It has found its road to roam. LOL! Still looking for its soul mate P40 #"816".
Seemed like the conductor was really too busy to engage with you in any type of conversation. Must be a newly.
I’m pretty sure I’ve seen him before however he did violate a rule. After closing and latching the door he opened the door window. However he didn’t watch outside until the train cleared the platform. This rule exists on the theory that someone might be trying to catch the departing train. However with the reservation system he knows there are no more passengers. Yet the rule exists.
Good morning, Geoffrey; I thank you for tuning in as well as the comments. He was with the rest of the operating crew in wanting to get to Denver, turn the train over to the next crew and get some sleep to be set for the return run to Lincoln tonight. Oh well. Everyone has times like that.
Have a great Saturday. Please take care and stay safe!
@@PCBill0622 Good morning, PCBill; Thank you for dropping by and the comments. That happens a lot. He was also turning to address the woman who just boarded as well. Not being familiar with the rules, I assume the questions from those onboard are also to be addressed. Yes. The manifests do assist in making life for the conductors easier. And they have nothing to do with the camera guy on the platform. Oh well, he took care of business as far as I could see, and most others from the outside looking in would see the same.
Anyway, I thank you for info of the rules Have a great Saturday. Please take care and stay safe!
Good morning Mike jensen My Name is Damien I heard the train came and collected two people and if you see mandy Tell Mandy Damien Says Hi
Good morning, Damien; Thaks for dialing in and the comments. I see the same post twice from you so will answer to the earlier post. No biggie.
I may see Mandy tomorrow. Operative word is may. Anyway, have a great Saturday afternoon and evening.
Please take care and stay safe!

Good evening, Kenny; Thank you for tuning in as well as the comments. It was one of those "DUH!" moments. I have had my share of them.
Have a great evening. Please take care and stay safe back there!
