  • Today we are brining you our full story analysis of the Valhalla portion of the recent Assassin’s Creed Crossover Event, so spoiler alert if you haven’t played it already!

    We are also going to have a look at some lighter topics like the wedding scene at the end of the quest, an Isu map that features an X that marks the spot, some markings that don’t really seem to be Isu Language, some non canonical weapons and way more!

    The fact that the quest can be done at settlement level 4 tells me that it's supposed to be done before Eivor has any of those experiences with isu technology. If they would get off this trend of making all dlc available to anyone no matter how far into the story they are, they could actually move the narrative forward some more.

      @@killergandalf That was the biggest question, but I think Alethia performed a similar role in Atlantis as Kass, albeit using different methods than slaughtering enemies.
      I theorized on Reddit that she left the city quite some time before the last cycle ended (the TC), took the staff of Hermes with her, and reached Utgard and becomes Angrboda.
      I also think Loki uploaded her into the staff during Ragnarok sometime after Odin and others leave the Ygdrasil room, as she was badly injured during the final battles.

  • @VryTox
    @VryTox 2 ปีที่แล้ว +28

    This is the biggest issue with Valhalla's DLC contents, they are not placed specifically anywhere in the timeline, and thus Eivor can have very inconsistent reactions and outlooks on ISU technology. I'd assume the reason Eivor here is ignorant is because this DLC specifically is unlocked right after you build Valka's hut in the settlement, and thus, that is the canonical time this takes place, i.e. before most of the main story.

    • @AccessAnimus
      @AccessAnimus  2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Yeah that's the issue pretty much summed up. In order to make every experience available as soon as possible to everyone, they always have to start with the character as a clean slate, otherwise that might spoil events from the main game that the player might have not played yet. But this makes every experience, every DLC less meaningful because they feel more and more random events that never really had an impact on the main character

    I think the reason Kassandra doesn´t just pass the staff to Basim is because he needs to see the memories of Odin(Eivor) in order to reunite his family. That would not be possible in that time. Basim needs the "perfect storm" for his plan to succedd, let's not forget that. Basim would always, in my opinion, "wait" in the ygdrassil for Layla, even if he managed to kill Eivor there(which would allow him to obtain her dna to "see" her memories after luring layla there by other means and get the staff).
    And also i don't think there is that big of a diference between alethia's goals in both games, they don´t exclude one another. Send Kass to destroy pieces of eden and the reunion of their family can work as different steps of the plan. She has problems with other ISU (in both sides), so destroy their work so the family can be reunited without other ISU interference, maybe? Basim objective doesn´t sound evil, or against human kind, he just wants to reunite the family. We just don´t know how.
    Maybe Dawn of Ragnarok offers some light on this (it wont but we can hope)

    • @fuladh
      @fuladh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah I think Aletheia's objectives make sense. She and her son were treated poorly by the other isu, so she empathized with humans and still wants her kids back. It just seems like she's a bit more "The ends justify the means" than we expected.

    • @obviousalias132
      @obviousalias132 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So get the Staff, kill Eivor, keep some DNA, be with your wife, jumpstart the invention of the Animus, find your kids sooner. Not much of a perfect storm needed. I just don't think Ubisoft thought of the bigger picture issues when they both came up with Basim's convoluted plan or introduced Kass and the immortality stick.
      Aletheia having ulterior motives is very good though imo. While I don't think it was intentional on Quebec's part, some of the stuff Aletheia has us do doesn't make sense if she was on the up and up.

    • @Livael23
      @Livael23 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Stop me if I'm wrong but Aletheia doesn't actually tell Kassandra to destroy the pieces of Eden, rather all she says is she should find them because they mustn't fall into the wrong hands and, as suggested by this DLC, Kassandra has been keeping them stored somewhere safe ever since she started her hunt. My guess is Aletheia thus ensured an essentially endless supply of Isu artefacts for her and Loki once the plan reaches its completion

    • @RCDeschene
      @RCDeschene 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@obviousalias132 I think the coming Muspelheim Arc story will help explain things, especially considering how Access The Animus here has revealed that the teasers building up to contain messages from Loki to Odin. If you saw the video from the Siege of Paris puzzle, the Isu message talks about Loki "preparing [his] revenge". So, my speculation is that Basim is deliberately being extra about everything for the sheer sake of making the most out of this vendetta.
      As for Alethia, while I absolutely love this alternate side of her, using the situation to both promote her cause for human autonomy and reunite herself with her loved ones, it shows that Alethia is not above being manipulative to suit her needs and desires, making her awfully comparable Juno. The fact that Alethia's Norse persona is Angerboda, the "the one who brings grief" and "harm-bidder", despite also being a "truth-giver" says that she has quite a bit of a two-faced nature.
      The parallels between Alethia & Loki and Juno & Aita are too noticeable and coincidental for comfort. I'm of the strong opinion that they're going to prove to be a significant threat to both the Assassins & Templars going forward, just like how the "Instruments of the First Will" were.

    • @obviousalias132
      @obviousalias132 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RCDeschene I'd say the best way for Loki to have been extra and make the most out of his vendetta would be ensuring it's success while also being reunited with Aletheia as soon as possible. It's also less risky given that there were other Aesir reincarnates that could mess him up even after plugging into the Yggdrasil.

    Innocent and Ignorant Eivor frustrates me!
    This is a missed opportunity for having the best interaction between two great videogame characters! I don’t know why the devs decide to go with this “abhorent” version of eivor to appease “newer” players..
    We could’ve seen some epic interaction and more of the isu lore.. It makes me sad tbh..

    • @AccessAnimus
      @AccessAnimus  2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Yeah, like I said in other comments, I believe this stems from trying to make every DLC, every free content available to new players as soon as possible and because of that, Eivor would likely not have met any Isu artifact in the early stages of anyone's game (save from the Saga Stone) - so if new players get to play the crossover immediately or the Tombs of the Fallen immediately, THEIR Eivor is not supposed to know anything about the Isu and thus is "innocent and ignorant".
      It's a matter of concept rather than narrative, which can be easily solved to be honest. The Odyssey crossover mission has a spoiler warning at its start for the new players - why not have that in the new content in Valhalla too?

    Whether you enjoyed the two Crossover stories or not (and I for one enjoyed both), it seems to me that the writers had an opportunity to use these stories to correct or straighten some of the storytelling and lore decisions/compromises that were forced on the writers of Odyssey by previous sexist editorial leaders at Ubisoft. Could the ISU Artifact on the Ilse detect that she's of Greco Roman descent and not Norse or what ever ISU... We know the artifacts can talk to each other a ISU world wide web of sorts, so it could know who she is and not want to fall into the hands of an Enemy (Greco-Roman ISU descendant) versus Eivor who posses part of Odin and is in a way, his descendant.

    The only issue I had with the Apple of Eden that they found - Kassandra is a human with high concentrations of Isu DNA - granting her great power and control over the artifacts. But so is Eivor - 5-6% of her DNA is quite literally overridden with Odin's due to the fact of being a Sage - so I felt that when she grabbed hold of the Apple, Eivor should've had a great measure of control - if not as much as Kassandra - instead of struggling to deal with it.

    The stone circle itself would not have been an Isu artifact. At the time of the fall of Isu civilisation, what would become the Isle of Skye was a barren tundra, which might make it a good remote and desolate place to hide something like an Apple. And in the intervening millennia it got much colder and was eventually covered by an ice sheet, which would've destroyed anything like that stone circle that existed before. So it's a much more recent thing.

Eivor should’ve know exactly who she was and where she came from at that particular point of her life. Also considering that Kassandra is a thousand some years old some how I feel like she should have been a lil more tech savvy on the down low. The reason why Kassandra couldn't simply give the staff to Basim during the Viking age is because Alethea truly wants Layla to find a permanent solution to save the world and she wouldn't be able to achieve that without the staff. Had Basim had the staff since the Viking age Layla wouldn't ever be able to get inside the vault in Norway and consequently the Grey because of the radiation. Loki couldn't simply give it to her because he would die. I think Loki and Alethea are misunderstood. Even if they are evil and against humanity (I doubt it) they would want Layla to somehow find a solution to permanently protect the planet so that they would be able to find their children and live as a family once again.

    Have you done a BOV lore video yet? The spear being in Italy isn’t a problem since that’s where Herodotus dies although the Odyssey timeline is weird due to Kass giving him the spear after he left for Thurii somehow. I do have some issues with BOV MD timing though because it would have been so much better to place it before Odyssey in order to explain how Layla found out about it. And then we wouldn’t also have to deal with the Otso junk.

    I'm very late but to the last inquiry:
    Could it be possible that Aletheia and Loki only got in contact in 2012 after Desmond activated the whole network? I don't think Aletheia could have known about loki's revival precisely since if it could be calculated/predicted then Odin would have found out too and prevented it.
    If that were the case, then Aletheia probably didn't know about Basim at all. She might have only found out when Yggdrasil got reactivated.
    Though there might be some conflict with the Keeper of Memories role so idk..
    Perhaps the reason Aletheia seems different in the two games ties to her finding out about Loki's revival. Before she wanted to hoard/destroy the Eden pieces but now she just wants to be reunited with Loki, even if it implies manipulating Kassandra and Laylah into achieving it.

They put WAY too much focus on Kassandra and making her seem like she’s all powerful and better than everyone else. Eivor couldn’t even hold an APPLE! She “needed” Kassandra to save her then too even though she’s a badass Sage! WTF?! Also, I can’t say how GLAD I am that they didn’t make them hook up at the end, or even give the player the option. That would’ve been SOOOOO wrong. I don’t get why people say that should’ve happened. It would be like Kassandra hooking up with Bayek, or Altïar or someone else when she weasels her way into that story. They ALL already have their own true loves (Aya, Maria, and Eivor has Randvi). Eivor and Randvi is a very pure and meaningful relationship, but if they made Kassandra a romance-able option, it would have only been fan service to the people that get a hard-on for Kassandra. NOT because it contributes ANYTHING substantial or necessary at all. 🥵

      Kassandra’s Eagle Vision is the ability to control the eagle. It is the same with Bayek, even Connor’s daughter from the comics, and Eivor (but Eivor has 2 versions of it). And I don’t know how exactly it works - can Kassandra after the death of Icarus find a new eagle? Or it’s like a one time thing? Anyway, Kassandra did have Eagle Vision, but it was different from Eivor’s, and that’s why, I think, she couldn’t she the markings on the stones. Or she stopped possessing it at all by the time Valhalla took place.

    1. I think the Adam & Eve's human rebels taught the art of stealth, leap of faith jump, eagle sight, and assassinations to their descendants (Ex. Darius, Kassandra, Bayek, etc)
    2. Bayek tried to teach Khemu how to do a Leap of Faith while Darius & Kassandra already knew how to perform a Leap of Faith (likely taught from their parents).

    I don't understand this apple. The Olympos Project's artifacts were not apples, even if they had the same appereance; if they were like apples, Leonidas' spear would have interacted with them and lost his power long before the events of Korfu. But this apple have both mind control powers and the hologram at the end. Maybe it is not the same mind control of normal apples, and every Olympos Project artifact has self-defense abilities, the ones in Odyssey not using them because they were already "protected" by monsters.
    But if the artifact in this story is one of those, why they repell Kassandra for being in the Isle of Skye and have the wrong blood? Aren't those artifact greeks in origin? Are there others who created artifacts like those outside of Atlantis, or even more, outside of the Greek-Roman Isu?

    They're going to need the "Mad One" aka Odin/Eivor in the future I think to stop Basim, maybe he comes back or his data is crucial to The Reader. As the modern Assassins have discovered, all artifacts including the Staff must be destroyed when the time is right. This is necessary to save humanity. Basim doesn't use the Staff, he's going to abuse the Staff to get his family back. To do this he needs Isu mechanism while the Assassins do everything they can to destroy as much Isu mechanism as possible. Basim is as unreliable as someone from The Order aka Abstergo. Basim wants to abuse the Staff at the expense of humanity to save his son. The Order wants to abuse the Staff to take full control of the world and are so fixated on it that they don't see that this will mean the end of humanity, including themselves. In the Isu world you have Loki (Primitive, Family Code, Fighter for Freedom) and you have Juno (Dictator, Pro Order, Anti Human). We've learned that being 100% chaos maker doesn't mean you're the right one, but full Order is just as dangerous. An Assassin must strike a balance between chaos and order with the intention of defending free will without erasing every bit of Order. There has to be a balance between Chaos and Order, that's Kassandra and The Creed's job. Kassandra was chosen by Alethea because, despite two Isu bloodlines, she does everything she can to create balance between people, but also between Isu and people. She established balance between Sparta and Athena, between Chaos and Order, and between Isu and humans. Loki aka Basim is an anti-order and all-primitive who uses his role as an Assassin to keep The Order away from his fate. He doesn't fight for The Hidden Ones and humanity, he fights for himself and free grasp of power to fulfill his primitive goals. So he cannot be called a true Assassin (in terms of true Hidden One aka Creed). Juno is an enemy of Loki because of her anti-human policy and lust for Isu's power over everything and everyone. She is The Order but for Isu. The Human Order would use the power to use Juno because they would think it would bring Order under power, which is why The Order should never have the Staff. They will be blind to the consequences, Juno would promise loyalty and help to The Order but at the same time ensure that The Order will wipe out humanity without realizing it. Juno would use the Order to rule the Isu Order and wipe humanity from the world afterwards. Odin/Havi/Eivor is an evolution of balance. Odin/Havi were possessed by the strife, pride and nation importance of his realm and paradise. Addiction to triumph in war. Eivor fought against his reincarnation against Odin himself so that he would not make the same mistakes, has sought balance by founding alliances between Norwegians/Danes and English. By helping The Hidden Ones but also by helping kings and nation leaders. He spared King Aelfred despite knowing he would start a new Order. Eivor knows that there are always new people who start Order even if Aelfred were to continue. Eivor has the potential to become immensely powerful but chose the interest of his Clan and the alliances for a better future. That makes Eivor a good person and Loki/Basim's revenge is not necessary, but he pushed on to try to destroy Eivor. This while Eivor himself has fought against his spirit. This proves that Eivor is a good man, Basim is a bad one because he wants to achieve his primitive goals at the expense of humanity and balance. Eivor has done as a mortal in 1 generation what Kassandra as Pre-immortal (until she leaves the Staff) over several centuries. Suppose Eivor had been given the Staff, he would do it just as well and correctly as Kassandra. Fortunately, the Staff remained in the hands of Kassandra for a long time and Loki/Basim was only able to steal it in Layla generation. The Modern Assassins don't trust Basim completely and rightly so. Hopefully they'll take the Staff from him. There will be little time to destroy all artifacts, Staff and all other mythical resources when it is crucial to save humanity. If Loki resists (which will happen because he needs the Staff to save his son) the Modern Assassins must stop both Abstergo and a traitor Unworthy-Assassin Basim. It's about balance and the fate of humanity and that's why all those artifacts have to be destroyed to save that balance and humanity. Only the timing is important as the modern Assassins in AC Valhalla have said. With Basim's hands on the Staff, that timing could be in jeopardy, but also because Abstergo is hunting for the Staff. Basim will be the chaos, Abstergo The Order. The Modern Assassins must restore the balance by destroying all those artifacts at the right time before Basim or Abstergo can achieve their objectives.

    It is really annoying how Eivor completely ignores Isu artefacts in the DLCs but the problem has an easy answer: Ubisoft wants their DLCs to be playable as soon as possible because you know, finishing a game is too much to ask, I guess, and thus all those DLCs are written in such a way that it ignores the endgame revelations, and THUS, all the DLCs take place before the end of the game. After all, the Isle of Skye is accessible as soon as Valka arrives which is super early in the game. It's bullshit but I mean, marketting I guess...
    As for why Aletheia didn't arrange to be reunited with Loki then, my guess is she just doesn't know he's alive then? Sure, she's an Isu who can make calculations of the future and basically see the future and even see through the Animus and everything, but both them and Loki in the animus glitches sound very unsure about when Loki will be reborn and how long it will take them to reunite so maybe it's not something they could have predicted? Very loose and kind of bullshit, I know, but I mean, Darby McDewitt did his best to save this plotline, it was bound to have some holes in it, even if I'd argue it's still one of the best plots we've had in an AC game since at least AC3.
    Or maybe not reuniting then is part of the plan? You keep saying that Aletheia asked Kassandra to destroy the pieces of Eden but she never actually tells her to do that, rather she asks her to find them and as suggested by this DLC, Kassandra has been storing them somewhere safe, seemingly ever since she started to hunt them down. Maybe while Loki's focus is to find Odin and the Yggdrasil chamber, Aletheia's focus was to gather as many Isu artefacts as she could so that she and her lover would have a huge supply of artefacts at the ready when they are finally reunited for whatever plan they have? Or maybe this search is all about finding an artefact that would allow her to regain a body? Granted, this too could have been achieved by Basim but idk, I guess they didn't want to risk screwing up the plan they'd been concoting? And I mean, they've been separated for so long that a few centuries might not feel so long to Aletheia? What's 1200 years when you've been apart for 73800 years already?
    Also, unrelated, but among all the stupid things Ubisoft has done, making a board game canon is easily in the top 5.

      That's what really disappoints me with Valhalla. It is a good game with a fairly good plot in regards to the AC: world. But Eivor being completely oblivious about the ISU, or the ISU weapons he/she holds is ridiculous. I mean, he/she even went into the ISU machine in Norway with Sigurd. After that experience, nothing should baffle them. It would even baffle us living in the present. But a 9th century Viking? Nah, don't know what's happening, mate. 😂 Ubisoft need to tighten down on keeping the lore consistent.

All Eivor has seen is someone she believes to be a god (and has no reason to believe is anything else), visions of said god with a mythological veil over it, and strange devices which she thinks are magic. We, the players, know what all of this is about, but Eivor has no clue, to her it's all magic and divine stuff. There is absolutely nothing here that would make her question the very essence of her world, I mean beyond getting the proof that what she believed in in the first place is indeed real, even though she doesn't understand it like we do. And on the contrary, the fact that people nowadays are more rational, less religious, and don't believe in magic anymore would make it much MUCH worse of a breakthrough because we'd be faced with something that we adamantly believe doesn't exist.
