Assassin's Creed Valhalla Story Analysis Part 1 - The Anomalies Messages

  • After ending our no-spoiler period and releasing our written spoiler review (www.accesstheanimus.com/ACV_Re..., and also following up on our #ACDay celebrations, we are finally ready to share with you a more in-depth analysis dedicated to the ending of Assassin's Creed Valhalla and the context surrounding it!
    This is not going to be your standard analysis of the ending though. In fact, we are actually planning a series of in-depth videos that will explain in detail all the aspects and context that are needed to fully understand the game’s ending along with the several references to the lore and narrative established in the past games connected to it.
    Because of that, we are going to start from a specific starting point, and from there we’re going to follow a logic and narrative path through several videos in order to gain all the elements and details needed to fully understand the ending of the game.
    That starting point is none other than the Animus Anomalies or, more specifically, the hidden dialogues within them, so this video will be fully dedicated to them, before we move on to a different topic surrounding the ending of the game.
    We can't express how happy we are to go back to our story analyses and theories on this channel! It took us quite some time but we're back!

    I have a modern interpretation. The supercomputers calculated that Loki's son would be responsible for Odin's death. That is why he invented the lies to imprission him. He couldn't kill him because he was blood related , so he imprissioned him.

      Story was great! I feel as though Dag was written poorly among some other instances where your choices seemed meaningless. Other than that, the armor and weapon pool looks nice, but is very small and it’s gotten to a point where there is more content in the store than in the whole game.

      This! It wasn’t a straight forward story about assassins and templars. I would say Valhalla is more about Isu (first civ) and templars (order of the ancients) and narrative connections to older games. Problem is lots of people wanted just an straight assassin story, and Valhalla wasn’t that. I don’t understand how some say it was boring or bland. Valhalla narrative was the most interesting narrative since like AC 3. At least Valhalla actually pushed narrative forward in interesting way. Truthfully, after AC 3 the games were just play as an “assassin” in a time period but doesn’t do anything for overall narrative in the series, which is pointless in my opinion. Valhalla’s narrative was one of the best honestly, sad people don’t appreciate it because “it’s not assassins creed” mindset some have.

      @carlosalbertofernandezvele7574 3 ปีที่แล้ว +41

      Indeed, that's a good theory. Or perhaps He was a double-agent or an Olympian diplomat which then became rogue. That's why Loki could have been a Jottum (an Olimpian) living within the Asgardians.
      He could have planned an internal coup and that's why he provoked the attack of the giants at the start of the Asgardian Arc. Then, He could have let in The Builder, a direct Olympian spy, and smuggled his son and Lieutenant Fenrir, codename: "The Wolf" (perhaps that's also why the Order of the Ancients used codenames whilst the reformed Templars didn't). That also explained why Loki's sons were kept in the dark: He had a political marriage to Asgardian Sigyn. Once Odin took notice of Olympian Fenrir, he looked him away. The tryout for peace between Asgardians and Olympians was a frail one.

    So I found something very interesting. I think I just found out who Fenrir is. I just finished the book AC Last Descendants: Fate of the Gods and the main villain Isaiah literally just called himself the Fenris Wolf (who is Fenrir). Unfortunately, Isaiah dies by the end so I’m not sure whether he really was the reincarnation of Fenrir or if he was a sage of him like Bartholomew Roberts. His main goal was to bring Ragnarok (the end of the world).

Damn I wish we could’ve seen the visions of the past as they were to play as an actual isu and see Minerva Juno and Jupiter in assassins creed Valhalla to see Odin and Jupiter fight

    I’d argue that what you refer as the 5th and 6th files in the series are actually the 2nd and 3rd files in the series because isn’t it that when you play the Asgard-Jotunheim arc, you only bind Fenrir AFTER you return to Asgard from Jotunheim? That also makes what you consider the 4th file flow better to the 7th file, because they “got found” on the 4th file leading to Aletheia’s being mortally wounded in the 7th file.

    I think you got the order of the visions wrong, especially now that the new DLC has been announced, taking place AFTER the base game's mythological plot and thus AFTER Juno gave the 7th method to Havi. Since Baldr is still alive at the beginning of this DLC, it's unlikely Juno hasn't already been cast out.
    I think that the dialogues go:
    1. 3:36, first 7th method dialogue, very conversational and neutral.
    2. 5:58, Juju has been cast away because she gave the serum to Havi (like she does in the mythological plot before Havi imprisons Fenrir) but the 7th method works, continuation of the previous conversation. Aletheia does call Odin their "tormentor", but she also says later that he had threatened them before imprisoning their son, and the conversation is still very quiet and calm, so I don't think this happens after Fenrir was captured (or at least I think that when Loki says Odin imprisonned Fenrir, he means the end of the mythological storyline when Fenrir is finally imprisonned for good with the unbreakable rope, not just under surveillance).
    3. 4:08, Odin has imprisoned Fenrir (Loki calls him "one-eyed retch" so this indeed takes place after Havi got the serum), end of the base game's mythological plot.
    4. 4:44, Loki, in a fit of rage, kills Baldr, most likely this is the end of the Dawn of Ragnarok DLC.
    5. 6:32, Odin is looking for a way to resurrect his son, most likely he doesn't know yet that Loki killed him. Loki and Aletheia are planning to steal the serum from him, so they know he has it, it has been made public knowledge that Juno got the serum and gave it to Havi, therefore she has been exiled already. They don't seem alarmed at all so the soldiers probably haven't come for them yet.
    6. 5:34, soldiers come to avenge Baldr, most likely at the order of Odin who figured out it was Loki who killed his son. There is urgency in this conversation, the soldiers aren't just gonna give them a little talk and leave, they're here for vengeance.
    7. 7:03, while escaping from the soldiers, Aletheia got hurt and now, her only hope is the serum... or the staff 👀
    8. 7:57, Loki is trying to put Aletheia's consciousness in the staff and refusing to go to Odin for help because he would say no.
    9. 8:32, the transfer worked, Aletheia is now in the staff.
    10. 9.05, the Great Catastrophe is happening, Loki is going to steal the serum.
    Which leads to the final cutscene, where Loki uses the serum before reincarnation into Basim, and then transferred to the present.

    Some things that I couldn’t understand, they were reborn human, only the consciousness was them (isu) so if the consciousness took over like Loki does with Basim, they still remain human so unless they do like Basim/Loki and get hold of the staff (or another piece of Eden) they would die? Is this right? I mean it makes sense but also seems crazy they went through all that trouble to be reborn for a relatively short life.
    Second thing was if they go to the tree and let it take them like Svala did there’s nothing the Isu side could do because they needed a human body to roam, so what actually happens? Do they stay “alive” inside the tree until a body is available? Does connecting to the tree even mean the stay alive? My heads spinning but I’m loving it lol!

    • @AccessAnimus
      @AccessAnimus  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      So, the short answer would be yes.
      The long answer is that "Father of Understanding" was a political title like "Mother of Wisdom" and "Sacred Voice" in the Isu society.
      The Order of the Ancients (which was the organization that laid the roots for the Templar Order) was indeed born with the aim of following the teachings of the Isu (the Ancients), searching for their artifacts, sometimes trying to bring them back etc. - Because of this, the Order also adopted the names of "Father of Understanding", "Mother of Wisdom" and "Sacred Voice" to indicate its most important leaders.
      It was only with King Aelfred of Wessex, which started a reformation of the Order aimed at reorganizing it under the Christian God that he decided to re-use the name of "Father of Understanding" to describe the Christian god

      So, we should have been more precise, as the anomalies were made by Basim, as in while he was locked in the Yggdrasil device, as in some of the modern day conversation it is said that they were inserted in the simulation with surgical precision by an external source which entered their server, dropped them and got out without being detected.
      As for the "why", we guess it was to show the Assassins and Layla about what truly happened (and not the edited versions of they myth arcs) and also to show the various Isu activating the seventh method to make the Assassins understand what they were "truly" seeing in Eivor's memories. There's also a chance he decided to show them that video, which features the Yggdrasil, in order to push them to reach the Yggdrasil device itself, where he was lying

But I would dare to say that he did it rather to show what happened in the Isu era and for Layla to go, activate the device and he can leave the nexus. Now we know the reason why both Aletheia and Loki carried out their plan long ago to reunite with their children, and the reason why Loki hates Odin since he was the cause of inventing crimes to imprison him, according to Loki's words. He immediately murders the son of Odin, who we suppose to be Baldur. Therefore I do not see Basim as a villain as most think, precisely for the reasons that I detail before. Therefore, it would be interesting to see why Odin imprisoned Loki's son and under what accusations he did, and all this in the Isu era.
