Big thanks to one of my TH-cam viewers for this suggestion! He and I had initially thought that only non-Windows systems permitted searches using tags.
thanks for reminding me why i switched from windows to mac os. You need a lot of time to do this tags and searching is also extremely cumbersome... too bad i thought we can probably use it at work. Anyway thanks for showing us 😁👍
I remember having a tag-viewing option native in Windows but can't seem to find it now. It was brilliant, better than anything I've seen even in 3rd party software. The way it worked was, lets say I had a photo of my kids tagged "kids", another tagged "christmas", and a third photo tagged both "kids" and "christmas". When I viewed my files with this tag viewer, it ignored all folders. Instead, it showed all tags as folders. I would see a "kids" folder and a "christmas" folder. Then if I clicked into the kids folder, I would see my 2 pictures at the root as well as a folder called "christmas", if I clicked into that, I would see just the 1 photo that had both tags because I'm in the tagfolder kids/christmas/ Doesn't anyone recall what this was called or how to get to it if its still around?
@@AnthonySequeira15626 I researched this further and found that it was a feature in Windows 7 libraries. Windows still has media "libraries" but in Windows 7 you can choose to "arrange by tag". This was the feature I liked.
I am sure this has been stated but that Tags features has been in Windows since 98SE. Arguably it wasnt as easy to use and required some Admin privileges but it was present for searching functionality. Now you can add similar Tags to a Office Document directly from the Product Window
Thanks, I noticed a name of a book inside your Pearson folder in Onedrive "Essential Mathematics for the Network ?" Can you provide me with name. Thanks again.
Very good explanation, but, if I may, you should also mention that, in the Search box, "tags" needs to be followed by a colon. Some of us have to be told everything :)
Thanks for the vid. I'm not getting the little pink "search tools" menu at the very top, when I click in the search box on the top right (2:16) Any ideas?
I've been tagging all my family pictures so I have multiple tags - people names, place locations, dates, etc. But when I go back to search using tagged items I can only search one tag. Say I'm looking for a picture of Jessica from October. I can search tag: jessica or I can do tag: October but if I try to do tag: jessica; October or tags: jessica; October (using a semi colon or a comma - neither work) it always tells me nothing found even though I might have hundreds if I just use Jessica or October solo. So there's something stopping me from using multiple tags. Any suggestion on how to get multiple tags to work?
Yeah - this is one of the huge problems IMHO with this MS implementation. The syntax is VERY specific and would feel unnatural for most - you have to use a Boolean like AND/OR. Here is the complete guide to the syntax required. docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/lwef/-search-2x-wds-aqsreference?redirectedfrom=MSDN
Thank you for responding. I've been digging in to research this issue because there seems to me there had to be a way and I found a few youtube videos that tried to address tagging as well. But I finally figured out how to search Windows using multiple tags. I'll use my Jessica/October example I initially started with. Tag: Jessica, Tag: October So instead of the common sense approach, it looks like you have to put a comma then redo the tag: qualifier, and then the next tag term you want to search. Not sure if that helps you at all but it puts my mind at ease to finally figure it out lol but I thought I'd pass it along in case you encounter the need to use it.
What a great question - the STATUS column with its checkmarks is placed there by Microsoft OneDrive. It is giving us a visual indication that our files are properly synchronized (or not) to the Microsoft OneDrive cloud!
This is great, I am trying to search for photos that I tagged. More specifically, photos that are tagged with two items. For instance, two names. I have not figured that out. Have you?
I do not see the Search tab pop up when I try to do a search using File Explorer. Also, I can only see the Tags options when selecting *.jpg files. Tags does not appear within the properties of any other file type. I've go the most recent Windows 10 updates. This is an area that certainly could use improvement.
This is really cool! Unfortunately, I now have Windows 11 and the search options don't come up in the menu bar, so I can't figure out a way to search by tags or file type. Does anybody know how to do this on Windows 11?
Hello Anthony, I am using Tagging for Windows for some time and it is awesome. It is a Dutch company. They integrated it in the Windows File Explorer. A friend of my tipped me because it is not (yet) easy to find. See for their website tagging.connectpaste.com/
A significantly useful trick to reduce headache for someone who need to navigate a lot of files. Thanks a lot Anthony!
Thank you for sharing this video! It is very easy to follow, and I will definitely be giving tagging a try now.

Thank you. I didn't even realized this existed.

Too many steps, I wish there is a plugin/windows addon to make tagging easier. Thanks for the video Anthony

Powertoys brought many tools to increase the work with Windows. It could bring the tag feature as it works on macOS too.

What does the "status" column with green checkmarks in the file explorer signify?

I have not tried this yet - but we might be able to use the OR keyword - for example - 90025 OR 90028 OR 90094

@@101RealTalker i assume you mean inside the content. if so, the answer is no. tags are applied to files folders or other tags
