Just came across your channel today, what a collection, First watched the Thing in 1985 taped it from the TV on vhs, wow the dog scene was just so terrifying 😮 I only have it on DVD
I still think that dog scene holds up incredibly well today. Tell you the truth I think everything holds up very well. Hands down the greatest practical effects I've ever seen in a movie. Thank you so much for stopping by Tony. It's always appreciated.
I have said it so many times but it's very easy to be enthusiastic when you love something as much as I love all of this. Thank you so much for the kind words and a Happy New Year to you
Wow Keith, I must admit The Thing is in my top 10 films of all time. Fantastic movie. Happy New Year to you mate and thank you for all your videos in 2024. 👍👍
It's amazing the amount of people that would feature the thing in there top 10. It goes without saying Ray I'm the exact same. To me the movie is perfect. A huge thank you once again my friend for stopping by and for all the support you've shown me over the last year. Happy New Year to you
"The Thing" is also one of my absolute favorite John Carpenter films. Not only that, I see the film as a perfect masterpiece where everything is right, from the atmosphere, lighting, characters, effects, movie score, script, directing, with this film John Carpenter has created more than just a sci-fi horror if you ask me and I've known the film since the VHS days 😘👌 I even own the soundtrack and the Mediabook from the German label Turbine with the legendary cover art love it. I'm not a big fan of the prequel to The Thing and I think it wasted a lot of potential. Btw Awsome Collection and Godspeed 🤘
It goes without saying but I absolutely agree with everything you said when it comes to the movie itself. In my eyes it's the Perfect movie and I really don't say that too often. You don't own a collection like this if you don't love the movie as much as I do. As for the prequel I still stand by what I said I am a big fan of it even though it doesn't come remotely close to the original. I found it to be very faithful. If only they stuck with the original practical effects that they were going to do would have made the movie so much better. A missed opportunity unfortunately. Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by and check out my collection. Happy New Year to you
@@millerman9991Honestly I haven't seen 2/3rds of the editions you have. If collecting was a martial art, you'd be 5th Dan . I'm definitely a rookie white belt 😅
@mig1017 I love that description I think it's fantastic. There's still so many more out there that I want for my collection. Hopefully in the new year I can pick them up. Happy New Year to you my friend
Thank you as always Roy for taking the time to stop by. It's a collection I'm very proud of. Looking forward to growing it in the future. Happy New Year to you my friend
That's an amazing collection of The Thing which is a great horror thriller one of my favourite films of all time just so good. Lovely collector's editions as well.
Like I said in the video Wayne it's one of those movies where I don't mind owning multiple editions of as you can clearly see by the video. As a matter of fact I have another Steelbook edition coming my way that I naturally didn't feature in the video. It's an ever-growing collection. Thank you so much for stopping by and checking it out
One of those movies I only watched a few years ago because I saw the blu ray on offer. Was really blown away by it and the tension the movies carries. Since I've brought the 4K which looks amazing, but I'm waiting on the wife before rewatching completely. Amazing amazing collection Keith. Was a joy to see all of your collection. I love that an edition of a movie is a moment in time for you. Never thought of it like that before.
Yeah I've said it so many times in my videos Darren but some older releases I treat them as time capsules because it takes me right back. I remember every single title I bought for this movie and how I felt when buying it. Why would you get rid of that. But I'm so happy to hear that you discovered this movie. Better late than never Darren and I'm so happy to hear that you enjoyed it as much as you did. Fingers crossed your wife will enjoy it also. Just wanted to take this opportunity Darren to thank you for all the support you have shown me over the last year. It's always great seeing your name pop up in the comment section. Happy New Year to you and your wife.
@@millerman9991 it's a great movie, with a great 4K transfer so I'm excited to rewatch. I should be thanking you for so much entertainment on your channel. Long may it continue! Wishing you, Ellen and family a happy new year
@millerman9991 Everything is well, Keith! And I actually managed to grab you another steelbook to add to your collection you got there! You didn't show it so hopefully you don't have it lol
@disturbedliberate are you serious Christian that is absolutely phenomenal. I have a funny feeling I might know what it is because someone mentioned that they were surprised that I didn't show it in the video and it was the scream factory one. I never knew it existed. But I could be wrong. Thank you so much my friend for the very kind gesture.
@millerman9991 You are absolutely correct! It is the Scream Factory one, ever since the 4k's came out, it's been pretty economical to get. I have one, and since you didn't show it, I figured you probably didn't own it, so I decided to send it your way
@disturbedliberate that is absolutely incredible Christian. I'm not going to lie I didn't know about the scream factory one until somebody mentioned it in the comment section. So it goes without saying I will treasure having that in my collection
It's very kind of you to say Saul and I'm definitely going to look into doing more of them in the future. Happy New Year to you my friend and all the best to the family
This movie is a Masterpiece, horror, tension buildup, paranoia, characters, practical effects, creature variety, music/score, gore all top notch. Easily in my top 3 movie list, brilliant collection Keith.👏Still own the vhs and have a few of the editions shown.
To me David it is the Perfect movie and how often do you get to say that. It's a collection I'm very proud of and I'm hoping to expand it next year. There is still a few releases out there that I want. But thank you so much for taking the time to stop by and check out my collection. Great to hear that you have a few of them yourself. Happy New Year to you
Yeah it's a shame the prequel doesn't get the love that it deserves. Nothing near as good as the original but I found it to be very faithful. Would love to see a 4K release of it. Thank you so much Chris as always for stopping by. Happy New Year my friend
Thank you for uploading 🩶. The Thing is one of my lifelong favourites beside the other holy Carpenter movies EFNY, The Fog & Halloween. I bought the VHS at the end of the 90's at a convention.
It's my absolute pleasure Matt and thank you so much for checking it out. It goes without saying but it's a movie I love and the Fog and Halloween is definitely up there as well. I might actually put both of them ahead of the thing. John Carpenter could do no wrong in the early days
@@millerman9991 It's always a pleasure to meet other devoted fans. I watched Escape From New York last year at a Best Of Cinema presentation after seeing it at a Drive-In mid 80s as a child, fantastic ! Always loved the gritty look of the first Carpenter movies .
I would do anything to experience escape from New York in a drive-thru. Unfortunately opportunities like that don't happen that often over here. Never say never
Very kind of you to say John and thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to stop by and check it out. It's always appreciated. Happy New Year to you
If you like those VHS packaging editions I recommend going onto TH-cam and checking out the complete collection. It's very impressive and it's a shame I missed out on it. Thank you so much for stopping by and a Happy New Year to you
Great video Keith I love the thing it's a masterpiece of a film I used to have the thing on widescreen vhs claim shell edition but i had to get rid of it because of space I wish I still had well any ways my friend Happy new year and keep collecting the films you love.
I think I still have the claimshell edition of The Thing. I have so many versions of it on VHS it's hard to keep track. It's a collection I'm very proud of and I look forward to growing it in the future. Thank you as always James for taking the time to stop by and for all the support you have shown me over the last year. Happy New Year to you my friend
Hi Kieth, awesome collection! I have just uploaded a video of some of my horror vhs and I have a slightly different version of 'The Thing'. I also found my VHS of 'Dusk Till Dawn' the day after watching you show your collectors set.
You have me somewhat intrigued Ryan and whenever I have a second I will definitely check out your video. I do have a few other VHS editions of the thing that I didn't show in this video. Chances are I might have it. I will get back to you and let you know
Woah Keith, time to open up a museum haha. While i'm not the kind of collector that buys multiple copies of the same film, I very much admire your passion for one of the landmarks of our favorite genre :-)
Yeah I completely understand about you not buying multiple copies. It takes a very special movie for me to do that and The Thing is one of those special movies. Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by and for the very kind words. Really appreciate it
Very nice collection of The Thing, you have there Keith. It's one of my favorite movies. Always a fun watch every time. I haven't visited your channel in a while so, it was nice to make my way back. Happy holidays to you and yours! Have a fantastic, and safe New Year as well. Look forward to visiting you more in 2025👍😀
Hey Will. Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by and check out my video and for coming back. I can't stress you how much I appreciate it and I would like to take the opportunity to wish you all the best for the new year. Really hope to hear more from you next year. Look after yourself
Hello Keith, The Thing is one of my absolute favourites I even prefer it over Alien. The Arrow blu-ray is so good that I never felt the need to upgrade to 4K Thanks for showing your fabulous collection
I have to agree with you I would put it ahead of alien myself. As a matter of fact I would almost go as far as to say it's the Perfect movie. I don't say that too often. If you are happy with how the arrow Blu-ray looks then definitely stick with it. But I have to tell you if you do decide to check out the 4k trust me you're in for a treat. It looks absolutely stunning. But thank you so much once again for taking the time to stop by. I can't thank you enough for the support as well. Happy New Year to you
@@millerman9991 Hello again Keith, I was in Dublin earlier today and picked it up in the sales. I couldn't resist. Your channel is costing me a bleeding fortune😭😄😄😄😄😄
@bonzodog6872 I am so ecstatic to hear that you picked up the 4K release. I know your wallet is not thanking me at the moment but wait till you see the 4K transfer and your mind will be at ease. I hope I'm not overselling it. Get back to me and let me know what you think
@@millerman9991 Hello Keith, I'm pleased with it overall, the picture is a decent upgrade though they dropped all the audio choices from the Arrow Blu-ray which was a bit strange.
I always had fond memories when it comes to VHS particularly when it comes to movies like the thing. The more the merrier. Thank you for checking it out
Such a good video Keith! I absolutely agree when it comes to the prequel, very underrated 👍 I would love see the version before the added CGI, if it exists 🤞Would you consider doing a similar video with your Lord Of The Rings collection? 😁 Happy New Year my friend & many blessings your way to you both!
Hey David. I know there is a video on TH-cam where they show them using the practical effects. Whether it was shot I honestly don't know something's telling me probably not. It's the only thing that's holding that prequel back. As for the Lord of the Rings collection yes that is a video I am definitely going to do. These videos seem to be getting a decent response so it's only right that I continue. Happy New Year to you David and please pass on my best wishes to the family. Look After yourself
Fantastic collection of a great movie you have got there Keith. I have the HDDVD version as well which looks a little better than the Blu-Ray version but the 4K is stunning. Might watch it tonight after watching this. All the best Keith.
Thank you so much for stopping by Jer. Unfortunately I never had the pleasure of seeing it on HD DVD. I think it came out when I sold the player. But at least I have the 4K to fall back on. Hope all is well with you and that you had a great Christmas. Happy New Year to you my friend
Fantastic collection Keith, such a good film. I think I have that VHS in the loft. I used to have the HD DVD and the picture was superb on that. (I wonder where that went mate) You're welcome. I just have the 4k slip cover edition and the picture quality is stunning. Happy New Year everyone. Gaz.
Fair play to you Gary for sending that HD DVD my way. It's a welcome entry into my ever-growing collection of the thing. To me it's the Perfect movie and I will continue to grow this collection for as long as I possibly can. Thank you once again my friend for taking the time to stop by and check it out. Happy New Year to you
Love this film! I show it to people every winter along with the Shining. Someone did dump the DVD because I picked it up at Goodwill for 2 bucks the other day.
It never dawned on me to watch The Shining and the thing as a double bill. I'm actually intrigued. I think I might give that a go in the next couple of days. Thank you so much for stopping by
@millerman9991 Wait for a snowy day, have a bottle of J&B and Jack Daniel's on hand, The Thing plays first (it's shorter and has more action) and your set for a great night! Bonus: find a few people who have never seen either film.
Great collection! I have 1 retail VHS from about 30 years ago along with a couple of tapes from cable tv showings. I've gone through a few other VHS copies along with several DVDs and a blu-ray over the years. I currently own the 4K release from last year and I pre-ordered another one with a few goodies to receive in a few months I think. I have the McFarlane Spider Head figure, unopened, a framed 1-sheet of the classic artwork theater poster, and about a dozen smaller framed artworks and 8x12 tin art pieces as well. The Thing still stands as the movie I saw the most times at a theater, at least a couple dozen times during the summer of 82 and about a dozen more times over the years when it pops up at a local theater for a night. I'm sure you've caught it but I had to do a closer look at your steelbook with the Asian-looking lettering. The cover image only features 11 of the 12 characters and only a few of the pictures look like the actors. That alone makes it worth owning for the anomaly. I'm going to re-check my order of the to-be-released-version of the movie to see if its' in steelbook. If not, I'll search for some of the ones you've shown here. Cheers!
It goes without saying but you don't own a connection like this if you don't love the movie and the thing is definitely up their as one of my favourite movies of all time. I am forever trying to grow this collection as a matter of fact somebody is sending me a Steelbook that I didn't feature in this video. It's a scream factory Blu-ray Steelbook release. I never knew it existed until I put out this video. But there is so many options out there. It just goes to show how much love there is for the movie. I never actually thought to feature some of the posters that I have as well as the Funko Pops that I purchased very recently. It's an ever-growing collection and I hope it never ends. A huge thank you for taking the time to stop by and check it out. It's always appreciated
Keith, you are a true conosure of The THING! Brilliant editions you've showcased, have many of these myself. It's still one of my all time favourite movies. Did you ever read the original Dark Horse comic books, they were a kind of sequel. Bet they'd be right up your street, especially the cover artwork.
Honestly Paul I never realised there was a dark horse comic book. Now that is something I desperately want to check out. A huge thank you my friend for making me aware of it and thanks again for taking the time to stop by and check out my collection. Happy New Year to you
@millerman9991 Hiya Keith. Yeah, I wondered if you knew. I'm a big comic fan, The Thing was a terrific comic book, especially how it did its own sequel to the movie. The art was a gyt wrenching as the SFX in the movies, and the covers were incredible. Cherrs Keith, love your channel. Wishing you a very happy New Year as well. 😀👍🍻
You are a gentleman Paul and thank you again for making me aware of it. I was going to thank you for all the support you have shown me over the last year but you've been showing it to me for years now and I really do appreciate it. Look after yourself my friend and once again a Happy New Year
Hey Keith, I think this was the very first movie I ever went to see that I knew was a remake and I couldn’t wait to see it. and of course I was totally blown away. I can remember it like it was yesterday they had this awesome cardboard display in the lobby with the classic artwork that must’ve been 7 or 8 feet tall. i’ve never owned it on VHS I really never collected VHS it was really expensive in the early and mid-80s it really didn’t get affordable until the late 80s luckily by then I was collecting laser disks I did have it on laser disk and then on DVD I have the 4K which is the same steel book as the last one you featured which I think is awesome it’s absolutely one of my favorite steel books. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched it many times on laser disk which was the first widescreen version of it that I owned then on DVD then on Blu-ray and now Ion 4K. one thing that really blew me away when I first popped in the 4K the opening scene again countless viewings I’ve never noticed that the helicopter is actually two-tone it’s brown and black I’ve always thought it was a single color possibly a very dark green instead of brown, but I’ve never noticed the black trim wondering if you’ve ever noticed that or you always knew it was 2 colors. you said you’re freezing is it cold there? We got a little heat wave going on in Detroit Saturday. It was close to 60° which is pretty warm for lake December. It’s usually in the 30s I hope it warms up a little and if I don’t see you again. Have a great new year.👍
Hey John. I thought the exact same thing when I first checked out the 4K release. The helicopter really stood out for me. Just like yourself never noticed the two-toned colours on it. There is another scene in the movie that stands out for me and maybe it's not a good thing because the 4K images so sharp but when Blair is doing the autopsy you can clearly see that it's all foam padding that he's messing around with. I'm not going to say that you wouldn't have noticed it on the Blu-ray but it just seems more evident with the 4K release. Every single aspect of the movie is perfect in my eyes and the same can be said for its 4K transfer. It's hard to believe that when it came out on 4K there was actually TH-camrs complaining about how it looked. I cannot wrap my head around that. I shot this video around 3 weeks ago and we had a couple of bad days of freezing cold weather. Thankfully it has picked up but we are expecting another cold snap in the next week or two. A huge thank you once again John for taking the time to stop by and share your thoughts on the thing. I can't stress you how much I appreciate all your support over the last year and I just want to take the opportunity to wish you a Happy New Year. Look after yourself my friend
One of the best horror films ever! Own the Arrow and Filmarena steelbooks myself. Nice collection Keith I think that booklett cover is on a Canadian steelbook
You are absolutely spot on when it comes to the Canadian Steelbook. I knew I seen it before and I will definitely try and Hunt it down. A huge thank you as always Aaron for stopping by. Happy New Year to you
Hi Keith, That uk vhs tape was the first image that i saw of the movie "The Thing" on physical media, catching my eye in my local vhs store i could not put it down, WOW Ii"ve not seen that Asian steelbook one i"ve not seen & something different with the artwork. I agree Keith, the Neca figure keep in the box, rhe value is all lost when taken out, i remember when ordering the Arrow video blu ray collectors edition which i still have, that the site crashed when pre orders were available, & what a set it is. The Universal set i didn"t mind, it goes well with our Studio Canal John Carpenter sets plus we have the cd soundtrack & the prequel like yourself i didn"t mind, plus it ended superbly. We both spoke & agreed that the Filmarena is the edition for the movie on 4K in terms of release & packaging, expensive it was & a pre order it had to be. The U.S Scream factory release on blu ray was a nice release which i regretted on selling 😬. "The Thing" will always be my fav horror movie of all time, awesome collection as always Keith 😎👍
I have said it so many times Carlos but this is an ever-growing collection and I hope it never ends. As a matter of fact there is another Steelbook coming my way that I didn't feature in this video. A kind gentleman going by the name of Christian went out and picked me up the scream factory Steelbook and he is sending it my way. There is so many other releases that I'm hoping to get in the future particularly the turbine collector's edition. That one is a bit of a Grail item and I am kicking myself that I didn't buy it when I had the chance to. It's all about waiting for the right time and the right price and fingers crossed it will happen very soon. To be honest I didn't show everything I could have in this video. There is so many other DVD and VHS releases that I have. I also have so many posters and some recently purchased Funko Pops. Maybe save them for the next video. Once again Carlos thank you for taking the time to stop by and check out this collection of mine. All the best to you
This movie is right up there Keith, when it comes to horror. The practical effects in this film have never been matched and I doubt they ever will, especially now with all dodgy CGI we have today. Your collection on this film is amazing, some of your editions are stunning. I love the art work of McCreedy on the back of the 4K steel book edition. The Necca figure looks so detailed and I don't blame you for leaving it in the box. The Titans of Cult is also an incredible edition and reminds me of a block of ice.
I know how much you love this movie Gary and it was great to be able to Showcase my entire collection. Well almost my entire collection. There's still a few more out there that I need and I'm always going to try and hunt them down. For me it's the Perfect movie and as you mentioned it will never be matched in terms of practical effects. Even if particle effects were a thing today I still don't think they would match it. I think that's what they were trying to accomplish with the Titans of cult release. Very simplistic but it works very well. Thank you once again my friend for stopping by. I hope all is well on the holiday. Happy New Year to you. Look after yourself
@@millerman9991 Thanks Keith, I'm enjoying myself here. I hope you and Ellen have a great New Years eve. Good times ahead for us all in the new year my friend, take care and I will see you soon.
Funnily enough, I've that same VHS. I've also recently got the amaray 4K, as well as the same dvd you've got, the Shout blu ray, the Arrow limited blu ray and two versions on laserdisc. The dvd version was the very first dvd I bought along with Eddie Murphy's Metro back in the late 90s. Jen managed to pick me up the Dog Thing figure, and it's a fantastic piece, and is a centerpiece of my collection. I forgot about picking up that HMV Japanese art steelbook release, but it's on my radar. The Thing is my joint favourite movie, along with Star Trek The Motion Picture, and they're also my comfort movies. You've a cracking collection, mate. Great stuff, and cheers for sharing.
It's been a while since I Shot the video and I'm not sure if I actually showed the NECA figure of the dog. I really hope I did because it would have been a missed opportunity. But as you can see Mike I have a very extensive collection and one that I'm always looking to grow. The thing is to me a perfect movie and I love every single aspect of it. Great to hear that I'm not on my own. A huge thank you once again my friend for taking the time to stop by. Really appreciate the support you show me Mike.
Great collection Keith! I was lucky enough to get the Universal 4 disc set for standard retail price just before Christmas (it even had some They Live postcards inside too). I've given it a quick test and it looks outstanding. Definitely up there with the version of The Fog from the same/similar line.
Wow I'm so happy to hear that you managed to pick up the four disc set at such an amazing price. They have been long sold out. It's a stunning looking 4K transfer. I absolutely agree with you definitely up there with the Fog. As a matter of fact every single John Carpenter movie looks amazing on 4k.
It's a crime that the studio put CGI over all the FX work they did on the prequel. I would love them to release what they shot the first time because the making stuff looked amazing.
So let's start a petition for the release of the original version 🩶. To know the practical version is already filmed and they through the CGI mess just all over it drives me crazy ! The studioAI clips are so cool, love the pilot creature and all the other stuff we missed.
@@mattcookre73 I think they released those bits in the hope it would feedback to the studio, but I guess the cost to implement them vs sales is not there in their eyes. As the director and FX team said, it was taken out of their hands.
Banging collection of The Thing Keith. I only have the 4k/bluray edition. It's the one with the same cover as the 4k/bluray 4 disc collector's edition that comes with The Thing 2011. It's also my all time fave horror film.
You definitely have one of the most desirable editions of the thing and it's great to hear that you have it. Like I said in the video I don't think the prequel gets the love that it deserves. Don't get me wrong it's nothing near as good as the original but there was elements that I loved in it. If only they stuck to the practical side like they did in the original I think it would have made for a better movie. But thank you so much for taking the time to stop by and check out my collection. Happy New Year to you
This is a great collection! I absolutely share your love for this movie. I actually saw this movie twice in a movie theater when it was originally released in 1982. It is one of the very few movies that gave me the same vibe as watching Jaws for the first time. This is a great John Carpenter movie and, just like Jaws, has an amazing ensemble cast. And, of course, it is a showcase for practical effects with a Rob Bottin at the top of his game. No CGI could ever match his amazing work. For my money, this is one of the very few movies that I would call perfect. I think you're right about the prequel. It's definitely not a bad movie and they really managed to give it the same look as the Carpenter film. That's why you can actually watch it as a double feature with Carpenter's film. The cast, however, isn't as great and some of the CGI effects really didn't look anywhere nearly as convincing as in the original. Maybe they should have tried to get Bottin back to just do his magic on this particular movie but, unfortunately, he retired from the movie industry a long time ago. Well, mate I'm just in my third nightshift of five in a row at my hospital, so I would just like to wish you and Ellen a Happy New Year. All the best and stay healthy, mate. I'm really looking forward to your content and streams in 2025. I think it's gonna be another great year for you and your channel. And maybe, just maybe you and Ellen will some day be able to find a place in your heart again for a new wonderful four-legged companion.
I'm not sure if you're aware of it or not Ash but originally the prequel was going to be all done practically and there is footage on TH-cam showing them testing out some of the practical effects. They looked absolutely fantastic and for the life of me I will never understand why they didn't stick with it. In my eyes it's what hampers the movie and of course as you mentioned the cast as well. Nothing near as good as the original. But I still found it to be a very faithful prequel and it deserves a lot more love than it gets. I never had the pleasure of seeing it on the big screen and hopefully someday I will get the opportunity to do so. But I absolutely agree with you it is in my eyes The Perfect movie. How often do you get to say that. But I want to take the opportunity Ash to thank you for all the amazing support you have shown me over the last year. Honestly my friend I can't stress you how much I appreciate it. As for a new four-legged companion I'm hoping someday it will happen. Happy New Year to you and all the best for the New Year. Look after yourself
The Thing prequel is excellent, its just that damn CGI. What possessed them to do that I'll never know, but a great movie nonetheless. Awesome collection mate, love when you do these single movie collection videos. There's not a single edition here that's average, they're all banging releases. The dvd and VHS are just standard but all the collecible editions are awesome.
Hey Kris. I'm not sure if you were aware of this or not but they were going to use practical effects on the prequel. As a matter of fact there is footage on TH-cam of them testing the practical effects out. They actually look fantastic and I do not understand why they didn't stick with them. It massively hampered that movie. Thank you as always my friend for taking the time to stop by and check out this collection of mine. I'm very proud of it and I'm hoping to grow it even more in the new year. Speaking of the New Year Happy New Year to you my friend. All the best
I had the same VHS ans HD-DVD and currently have the same DVD and the Thing double pack with the Prequel. Unfortunately the HD-DVD may now be not playable, a lot of my collection became unreadablr the years.
I heard something very interesting when it came to the HD DVD apparently it looks better than the Blu-ray. It's a shame I didn't have the movie at the time when I had the player.
I actually have a friend who owns every single one of those VHS editions. I would do anything to have them myself. Thank you so much Arthur for stopping by
@millerman9991 welcome my friend I love all the stuff you got well deserved because your such a good man hope you and your partner had a great Christmas
Wow that is very kind of you to say Arthur and thank you again my friend. It's always great seeing your name pop up in the comment section. All the best to you and a Happy New Year to you and the family
I got the VHS Range, the Japanese SBook and the 4K Collectors ed. recently sold my Blu Ray ...and the 2011 Prequel Blu Ray ...oh and a McReady action Figure
There‘s another rare Edition of The Thing. In 2019 Turbine Media released a Box in two Versions with two different Cover-Artworks. One is limited of 2000 Copies, and the other of 3000. There where 4 Discs: The Thing and it’s Prequel on two Discs, one Disc with Bonus Material, and the Soundtrack. In this Box where also two Books, one with behind the scenes Information and the novel from 1938, on which the Film is based. And there where also a Poster, some Postcards and a Outpost 31-Badge. I have one of this boxes with the classic artwork, limited to 3000 Copies.
Yeah I'm very well aware of the turbine release. That one is a bit of a Grail item. I've had so many opportunities to buy it and I could never pull the trigger on it. Like I said it's all about getting them at the right price and I know someday it's going to happen for me. I wouldn't mind but I have all the other similar turbine Editions that they brought out and it would look amazing beside the rest of them. I'm sure there'll be a future video from me on that release. Thank you so much for stopping by. It's always appreciated my friend and a Happy New Year to you
@@millerman9991 Yea, those Turbine releases are gorgeous. I picked up both when they were released. So glad I did. There was 1 other edition I grabbed around that time. From Taiwan. With original art. Was really nice.
Fair play to you for picking up both. They are highly desirable and I'm kicking myself that I didn't pull the trigger when I had the opportunity to do so. But I know it will come back around for me. Fingers crossed
Great video. Re the Titans of cult edition of the thing. I've noticed that the plastic outer case is of a different texture to their normal cases. And also a Mat type finish. This in my opinion makes it more resistant to scratches which appear very easily on their gloss finished previous releases. I find it odd that after finally getting their packaging better, they then changed to card boxing as per Gladiator. It may be just me. Interested to know if you agree. Keep up the good work and Happy New Year.
Hey James. To be honest I didn't really notice a difference in terms of the other packaging on this one compared to their others. I really must check it out and see. I'm not denying it of course and I absolutely take your word for it. I never had issues in terms of scratches on any of their releases. I know a lot of people complained about it but I never had any trouble. I wish they stuck to their original packaging instead of what we got with the Gladiator release. I didn't pick it up in the end and I'm actually done buying from Titans. Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by and a Happy New Year to you
@millerman9991 To check just turn the bottom of one of the cases to the light. This will show scuff marks where the box rests on your shelf and slides off when you remove it Now look at the box of the Thing in the same light and I'm almost certain it will be damage free. OCD nonsense but a fun fact lol. Cheers 🥂
What a fantastic collection of an outstanding movie Keith. I have it on blu ray and think I'll treat myself to a nice 4k edition. You are right about Film Arena though. They've become ridiculously expensive. I was after the Snyder Cut Justice League and just the 4k edition alone was 140 euro. I can't justify that kind of money for just one movie! Hope you had a lovely Christmas Keith and a very Happy New Year to Ellen and yourself.
Like I said in the video Alan it's a beautiful release from Filmarina but it's not €100 beautiful. It was great to finally be able to showcase my entire thing collection. To me it's the Perfect movie and I honestly cannot wait to add more to this collection in the near future. Thank you once again Alan for stopping by. We had a fantastic Christmas and it's still going for us. Happy New Year to you my friend.
@millerman9991 oh meant to tell you Jer is looking into a project for me! And not the ones I mentioned. I came up with something different and quite iconic in a way! I'll let you know details soon!
@thedarkknightish I am very intrigued Alan and I can't wait to hear what you came up with. Jer is a very talented man and I'm sure he'll give you exactly what you want
Hi, Keith,, wow amazing collection of the Thing,,,,, 👍one of my favourite movie's of all time,,,,,👌,,,,,,, absolute brilliant film,,, I have the Thing standard blu ray,, and the prequel,,,,,,Aswell,,, and yeah like you say,, i cannot understand why the prequel is so disliked,, i think its really good,,,,,, So allso have the Thing,, on titans of cult,,,, Arrow boxset,, And universal 4 disc boxsets,,, Fantastic releases,,,👍👌, Now the cover on the book from film arena,,, is the same art work as the usa steelbook,,,,, Good video cheers Keith , Happy New year to you 🎉🍺🍺🍺🍺
Thank you for the heads up on that Steelbook from the States Lee. I knew I seen that artwork before. I will definitely try and Hunt that one down. From the sounds of things you have most of the definitive versions and it's great to hear that you have the Titans release as well. I know that one is very desirable amongst fans. The movie In My Eyes is perfect and I don't say that too often when it comes to a movie. It's why I love owning so many releases of it and hopefully I can add to it in the future. So once again Lee thank you for all the support and a Happy New Year to you. Wish you all the best
@millerman9991 no problem Keith 👍, Thanks very much for nice word's,,, Same for you Aswell,,👍🎊🍺🍺,, Yeah when it comes to the thing,, It is brilliant,,,,, 👌,, I too would like more releases of that film,,,, Can never have to many copies of The Thing,,, 👍
@lee-the-artist-1392 I was sent a few pictures of a couple of releases of the thing that I wasn't aware of so I'm going to be hunting again in the new year. It's a never-ending Quest
Fu#kin frozen 😅🥶, The thing is something special 👍🏻 the bleakness the all male cast the paranoia the practical effects the score by ennio morricone is stunning its a masterpiece imo, have a great 2025 Keith 👌🏻
I've said it a few times tonight but in my eyes the movie is perfect and I don't say that too often when it comes to movies. Every single aspect of it I love including the 4K transfer. Thank you so much Stuart for stopping by. Happy New Year to you my friend. Look after yourself
I have a few things but have not gone for the 4k yet, early reviews had a disk that crashed. Apparently John Carpenter hated the movie poster artwork as it implies a man in a suit so it's good to see all the variations.
I'm massively encourage you to check out the 4K release. I had absolutely no trouble whatsoever with any of my 4K releases. I can understand why John Carpenter hated the poster. It is definitely misrepresentation of the movie
The Thing prequel is a prime example of cinematic crime, what the studio did to the effects in the film should be illegal and it caused the film itself to be overshadowed completely by the controversy. It's a damn good film with a fantastic cast as well.
The horrible thing is when you check out the footage on TH-cam of them testing out the practical effects and you see how good they actually looked. It's criminal that they didn't stick with it. But it's still a fantastic prequel. A very faithful one as well
I'm the opposite of being a collector - I tend to strive for one definitive version then stick with that as long as the picture/sound is good, the extras are enough, and the presentation appeals to me. But as you say, its hard to get rid of the older versions you ho through on the riad to this one definitive version. The Shout bluray is my definitive version, and i was pondering whether to get it signed when i met some of the cast, but decided against it as theres just not enough room for the autographs of such an ensemble.
Everybody is different when it comes to their collections Gary. I love every single aspect of them that's including the artwork that you get with each release. The problem with the thing is there seems to be so many definitive versions out there if that makes any sense. As a matter of fact I have another Blu-ray Steelbook coming from scream factory that I didn't Showcase in this video. It's an ever-growing collection and I honestly cannot wait to add to it.
QUESTIONS: How did you get the replica of the UFO/Thing's mothership from the opening credits of the movie, and as an owner of the Arrow Films release, is it worth buying the Universal 4K, if only as a compliment?
I don't actually own the mothership. I just created it for the thumbnail. As for the 4K release it's an absolute no brainer if you haven't seen it already you need it for your collection. It's an absolutely astonishing transfer.
Hi keith check out Mike (blockbuster boxsets) he's just uploaded a video...how to make custom boxsets...I think he would be a great guest on your stream of he's up for it..seems a cool guy!🙂
I seen his video yesterday. Fair play to him for making people aware of how to put all of those custom Editions together. You never know maybe someday I'll have him on the stream
Hey Keith, sorry I know this comment isn’t connected with your video but I know you have bought several steelbooks from Amazon Italy. I bought the Willow steelbook recently and it arrived with a dent in the back of it. Have you received anything damaged from them before, if so how difficult/easy was it to return the damaged one to get a replacement? I know there is always a chance that the replacement could arrive damaged too, so I’m not sure what to do. Thanks, Alan. Keep up the great work man. Hope you had a great Christmas and I wish you a Happy New Year!
Hey Alan. First off I'm so sorry to hear that happened to your Steelbook of Willow. I've only just returned something myself to Amazon Italy. It was a release of Love Actually and to be honest I had no trouble at all returning it. I just contacted customer service told them the problem I had and then they sent me a return postage stamp. I can't imagine you'll have too much trouble with them. I hope that helps you out my friend. Thank you so much for stopping by and a Happy New Year to you and the family
Thanks so much man! Glad to hear you didn’t have any trouble returning your Love Actually steelbook. I’ll contact customer service and hopefully get it sorted. Thanks again man, all the best 👍
Hopefully everything will go ok for you Alan. That's the one thing about Amazon there customer service is always great. I just wish they would do something a bit better when it comes to their packaging. Hopefully the second attempt will work out for you
Arrow steels are shit, too flat but the font they used is abysmal. I wish I got the zavii steel yet I feel like it is fake. The studio canal steels are a 4 piece set - it really is a fifth wheel but done well.
Yeah I have to admit I am somewhat underwhelmed by most of my arrow Video Steelbooks. It's a shame they didn't put in as much effort as they do with their limited edition sets
Happy 2025
That is very kind of you Allison. Thank you so much and a Happy New Year
Incredible collection
Thank you for checking it out Chris. Happy New Year to you
@@millerman9991 happy new year
Excellent video. Have a Happy New Year Keith 🍻🍸🥳🎆👍
Thank you so much my friend and a Happy New Year to you.
A very impressive collection!! The Thing is one of my all time favourite films.
Thank you so much for checking it out. I've said it in a few comments but for me this movie is perfect in every aspect.
Wonderful collection, Keith 👍 👌 . Happy New Year 👍
Thank you so much for checking it out Matt and a Happy New Year to you my friend. Hope all is well
What an excellent video. Your enthusiasm and excitement when you show your collection is awesome.
Not only that, I see the film as a perfect masterpiece where everything is right, from the atmosphere, lighting, characters, effects, movie score, script, directing, with this film John Carpenter has created more than just a sci-fi horror if you ask me and I've known the film since the VHS days 😘👌
I even own the soundtrack and the Mediabook from the German label Turbine with the legendary cover art love it.
Happy New Year to you
This is one film I'll keep quadruple dipping in 😅. Love it !
As you can see by the video I absolutely agree with you. It's one of those movies. Thank you for checking it out
@@millerman9991Honestly I haven't seen 2/3rds of the editions you have.

Great video and great collection! The Thing is my favourite horror movie. 😊
Definitely up there as well for me Kevin. Thank you so much for stopping by and checking it out
That's an amazing collection of The Thing which is a great horror thriller one of my favourite films of all time just so good.
Thank you so much for stopping by and checking it out
keith great vid love the movie well done just seen painc room 4k is comeing great tc steve
Yeah I was very happy to hear about the 4K release of panic room. Big fan of the movie. That's a day one purchase. Thanks for stopping by Steve

Excellent collection, Keith! This is very impressive
Thank you once again Christian for stopping by. I really appreciate it my friend. I hope all is well
@millerman9991 Everything is well, Keith!
Great.
Thank you for checking it out. Really appreciate it

It's very kind of you to say Saul and I'm definitely going to look into doing more of them in the future. Happy New Year to you my friend and all the best to the family
My favourite horror film of all time, 42 years later and this still has the best special effects and creature.
I couldn't agree more with you. In terms of practical effects nothing comes close to it and I don't think anything ever will
Amazing! Thank you Keith.
No problem at all my friend. Thank you for stopping by. Happy New Year
@ -Happy New Year Keith.
Happy New Year to you
@millerman9991 Happy New Year to you too mate
Fantastic movie, and great collection Keith.
I agree with you about the prequel 👍
Yeah it's a shame the prequel doesn't get the love that it deserves. Nothing near as good as the original but I found it to be very faithful. Would love to see a 4K release of it. Thank you so much Chris as always for stopping by. Happy New Year my friend
@millerman9991 agreed mate. Happy New Year to you and your good lady too 👍
@MUSICLOVER72 I appreciate that Chris. Thanks again
@@millerman9991
It's always a pleasure to meet other devoted fans.
Never say never
Great video 👌👌👌👌👌
Thank you so much for checking it out. I really appreciate it. Happy New Year
Never seen that VHS Range edition before. Killer design.
Yeah like I said in the video there was quite a lot of them out there. I have a friend who owns them all. I would love to have them myself

Another great video Keith. That is an impressive collection! Especially like the blu-ray ed in the VHS packaging.

Hello Keith, The Thing is one of my absolute favourites I even prefer it over Alien. The Arrow blu-ray is so good that I never felt the need to upgrade to 4K
Thanks for showing your fabulous collection
I have to agree with you I would put it ahead of alien myself. As a matter of fact I would almost go as far as to say it's the Perfect movie. I don't say that too often. If you are happy with how the arrow Blu-ray looks then definitely stick with it. But I have to tell you if you do decide to check out the 4k trust me you're in for a treat. It looks absolutely stunning. But thank you so much once again for taking the time to stop by. I can't thank you enough for the support as well. Happy New Year to you
@@millerman9991 thanks Keith happy new year to you also.

I wish i still had our original VHS. If i remember correctly, it had the dubbed over song on Naul's radio.
@nicwcarter unfortunately if I wait for a snowy day over here it'll be Years by the time I get around to watching it again 😂😂😂. Loving the idea though
Nice collection Keith
I think that booklett cover is on a Canadian steelbook
You are absolutely spot on when it comes to the Canadian Steelbook. I knew I seen it before and I will definitely try and Hunt it down. A huge thank you as always Aaron for stopping by. Happy New Year to you
Hi Keith,
That uk vhs tape was the first image that i saw of the movie "The Thing" on physical media, catching my eye in my local vhs store i could not put it down, WOW Ii"ve not seen that Asian steelbook one i"ve not seen & something different with the artwork.
Thank you again Gary and all the best to you. Please pass on my best wishes to the wife as well.
Every time I look at that footage on TH-cam them testing out the practical effects I always imagine what the movie could have been. Such a shame
Great video as always Keith,.....
I really appreciate that John. Thank you so much for stopping by
Banging collection of The Thing Keith.
I got the top gun blu-ray film in vhs box with two cards and a poster mate
I wouldn't mind picking up a few of the McReady NECA figures. It's the one thing that's missing from my collection.
There‘s another rare Edition of The Thing.
In 2019 Turbine Media released a Box in two Versions with two different Cover-Artworks.
One is limited of 2000 Copies, and the other of 3000.
There where 4 Discs:
The Thing and it’s Prequel on two Discs, one Disc with Bonus Material, and the Soundtrack.
It's always appreciated my friend and a Happy New Year to you
@@millerman9991 thanks, happy new year from me to you!
@TheChefteddy thank you my friend.
This will show scuff marks where the box rests on your shelf and slides off when you remove it
Now look at the box of the Thing in the same light and I'm almost certain it will be damage free.
OCD nonsense but a fun fact lol. Cheers 🥂
@jamestrex as soon as I get home I will definitely check it out. Completely get the whole OCD thing. I'm just as bad
I picked up both the Filmarena release and the Titans edition after watching your videos for them, they weren't cheap but damn they were worth it.
Great to hear that you pick them up. Two fantastic editions. Two of my favourites as well.
Reminder if u get laser player u going need a tv that has component or composite and Svid on the TV
Do not worry Pete I am covered when it comes to the TV. All I need is the player
Hi, Keith,, wow amazing collection of the Thing,,,,, 👍one of my favourite movie's of all time,,,,,👌,,,,,,, absolute brilliant film,,,
I have the Thing standard blu ray,, and the prequel,,,,,,Aswell,,, and yeah like you say,, i cannot understand why the prequel is so disliked,, i think its really good,,,,,,
So allso have the Thing,, on titans of cult,,,,
Arrow boxset,,
And universal 4 disc boxsets,,,
Fantastic releases,,,👍👌,
Now the cover on the book from film arena,,, is the same art work as the usa steelbook,,,,,
Good video cheers Keith ,
Happy New year to you 🎉🍺🍺🍺🍺
Thank you for the heads up on that Steelbook from the States Lee.
@millerman9991 no problem Keith 👍,
Thanks very much for nice word's,,,
Same for you Aswell,,👍🎊🍺🍺,,
Yeah when it comes to the thing,,
It is brilliant,,,,, 👌,,
I too would like more releases of that film,,,,
Can never have to many copies of The Thing,,, 👍
@@millerman9991 I want to watch it now 😚🤣
I'm the exact same. I think I might
@@millerman9991 like jaws , the thing, it's a wonderful life, king of kings films I watch once a year without fail
@stuartgeorge2324 I honestly couldn't agree more with you Stuart. Tell you the truth I would probably watch it more than ones in the year
Has your Neverending Story set turned up yet
I have indeed. Hands down the best release this year. Can't wait to check out the 4K transfer
@@millerman9991 it is massive one of the biggest boxsets I own
@markpugh6808 it's definitely up there
I have a few things but have not gone for the 4k yet, early reviews had a disk that crashed.
And what about the prequel ?
What about it
The Thing prequel is a prime example of cinematic crime, what the studio did to the effects in the film should be illegal and it caused the film itself to be overshadowed completely by the controversy.
Hopefully the second attempt will work out for you
Yeah that’s true. Sending steelbooks in a thin cardboard envelope really isn’t good enough. Fingers crossed our replacements arrive damage free 🤞
I'm sure everything will work out. Please get back to me and let me know
Film arena one is 140 quid ebay
It's a lovely release but I don't think I could spend that kind of money on it.
And not the ps 2 game the thing??
I used to own it. Had such a blast playing it when it first came out. Might look into the remastered version
Great movie, yet it bombed at the box office.
Thankfully it found a huge cult following and rightfully so.
All those things and not a addams to be seen : }
?????
The Addams Family thing.
I see what you mean. Very good
it's monday it's the best l got : {
Yeah I get that 😂😂😂
Anybody who hates the prequel should just stick to disny movies and their BS political agendas!!
It's a great movie and it deserves a lot more love than it's getting
Just some dvd's? Meh
I show one DVD.
