    Anxiety can definitely be cured. I used brain retraining and somatics to help overcome mine. It was incredibly hard work as I also had intrusive thoughts and images and dozens of other health issues. Anxiety is partially an over protective mechanism of the limbic system and by retraining the brain that I was safe and loved got it back to a baseline of calm.

      So true! I just started somatics. It’s hard but it a language that tells the body that it is safe. It works!

    Anxiety sounds like the body's cholesterol- you need it in order to live but, you don't want the level too high.

    Great convo. I've had GAD for a while, but it has reduce a lot using mindfulness, reducing caffeine a lot, exercising, journaling, and just learning about it, such as using videos like this. The book "30 Days to Reduce Anxiety" by Harper Daniels has also been a big help. Thank you

    In my experience anxiety causes stomach aches and a constant need to eat, rather than poor diet causing anxiety. Grew up having unpredictable IBS problems, started going to therapy at the age of 29 and learned about anxiety and realized it was the cause of my stomach problems that plagued my whole childhood. It suddenly made a whole lot of sense because the first sign of a stomach ache gave me anxiety and anxiety was the cause, so it guaranteed I got a crippling stomach ache. Once I learned about anxiety, could recognize it, I started noticing the stomach ache coming on, took a moment to calm down and breathe and they started to go away. I get very few stomach aches these days despite still eating like garbage.

    Thanks so much Emma! My anxiety got exponentially worse when my disordered eating got worse. While seriously under eating and then binging and purging on ultra processed food, I quickly developed fear of people and social situations, anxiety about health, sleep, work etc. and also huge amounts of stress from the fear of being a bad person. Being extremely anxious, irritable, exhausted, and impulsive gave me lots of evidence of “badness”. I notice that when my eating is better and my digestion is working well, I suddenly become more flexible, more sociable, calmer, and more empathetic. Meditation/ mindfulness also makes a huge difference (when I do it). However, it’s really hard to get over the food stuff, and my brain has definitely developed a habit of avoidance. I appreciate your content so much. Just hearing you talk is quite reassuring and you explain things very well 😊🙏❤️

      Mind chattering and lots of thoughts are a result of high cortisol
      Ashwagandha lowers cortisol very well
      It helped me more than xanax

      @kelli and @Arrasel OK, I tried magnesium and ashwaganda. They both helped. But recently, I have found the most profound relief as a result of strong CBD sleep formula gummies.Yes, cannabis derived, but I don't mind, it seems to work well.

    Biggest thing for me has just been the whole knowledge it’s there , not stuffing it down or try to get rid of it and just sitting through it and letting go. It’s always worse for me when I want to fight it and put up a strong front . Just sitting with it until it passes is waaaay more courageous in my opinion anyways compared to trying to fight it 🤙🏻

    If it helps: I have found a brain dump list in two color pens visually useful. One list of all the things in one color, either list of what can do/control or marking out first list and writing beside it in a different color

    And also terrifying for me. Always thought anxiety was being in a state of fear, worry all the time. My mother was like that and I never wanted to be like her. I thought anxiety and anxiety disorder were one and the same thing. So I avoided feeling what I thought was "anxiety" all my life, when what I feared was "anxiety disorder".
    A lot of words. Simply put, i feel anxiety about anxiety. I threw up earlier watching the video. No reflection whatsoever on your video. You did an amazing job! I just had a very strong reaction! Feeling better now. Athough you explained the difference between anxiety and anxiety disorder, it's still difficult for me to separate the two. I understand at the conscious level. But at the subconscious level?! I wonder.
    Question: With the fear that I expressed here about anxiety, should I continue to watch your videos about this? Have a lot of trauma wounds ifrom childhood (and adulthood) experiences, which I'm now working on to heal.
    ((My gut feeling is that it would be best to do more trauma healing work first. Maybe by that time, I'll have more capacity to be able to sit with the discomfort and you'll have all the videos available on TH-cam. And even then, will need to go through slowly.)

    I'm with everyone on the gratitude for this and all your hard work in putting these together, a friend turned me on to you this year, thankfully. High anxiety here, that's getting worse...at the beginning you said PTSD is separate, what would you advise as to who to find to help with PTSD. I'll be here for the anxiety part?

    I don't mind anxiety, I would like for my body to stop turning it up to 11. I'd like to dial it back. There's no reason for my CNS to over react when it does. I never know when that's gonna be either. It just happens sometimes. Reflecting back on my life I believe a lot of my issues were born from past drug abuse. There are certain chemicals I've done that most definitely brought on major mental changes. Stimulants & benzos come to mind as the worst. The stimulants I done on my own. The benzo was prescribed & I became dependent on it without even knowing it or taking it as a party drug. My brain has been through the ringer. I wasn't very kind to my body in my 20s & early 30s. I figured I'm just paying the price of that.
    I've come a long way though. It gets a little easier everyday. I know how to find peace without drugs when I need to. Something I never learned before because of the drugs. It's cool to be learning new things about myself. I'm overall happy, but I would like to be able to get my CNS back to normal.

    I have to say thank you for yesterday's video you posted. I started incorporating that visualization exercise. Even if it never happens (not saying it won't, just using extremes) it still feels good to look at things from another angle. We all did this when we were young, just life tramas make many of us look at things in a dimmer light. Thank you.❤

    Anxiety is not the problem, it's anxiety DISORDER which (by definition) causes grief in your life. My goal with patients has always been to remove the 'disorder' component with education, cognitive changes, desensitisation, mitigating catastrophisation etc.

    I think anxiety is all trauma. I had a ton of trauma and have social and performance anxiety. As i heal the trauma the anxiety lessens

      Society also just makes us stay busy, rushing, hustling, comparing ourselves, stress has even become something people brag about. So our brains get stuck in an anxious viscous circle just following the crowd it seems.
      Though of course trauma can set us up initially, I have an anxious/hypervigilant setpoint from trauma too. ❤

    Health Anxiety! I have OCD!!! LOL...This is great! Reversing avoidance piece in the cycle. What am I doing to avoid symptoms?, seeking reassurance, or avoiding it. Replace with Facing techniques.     I found it so interesting what you do to help you sleep (at 35:32). I do similar. Of course archeology videos wouldn't do the trick for me. I watch old shows on you tube. Preferably it's something that gently holds my attention but at the same time not stimulating, disturbing or exciting. I've watched the same shows many many times, like the grown-ups version of bedtime stories. It's a relaxing distraction that helps me quite often to fall asleep.

    Within the scope of attachment theory and early childhood rearing , do you find it taxing to be emotionally attuned to all your 4 children ? Are you able to meet all their needs separately ? Must be tough . I know you are very aware of how not meeting needs consistently can influence and start shaping an infant/young child’s world view

    Are anxiety, which seems related to a situation, and stress, two different feeling states? I live in a perpetual state of fear which is different to anxiety but the medical system labels it as Generalised Anxiety Disorder. “Their” treatments don’t work very well and it’s really hard to cope with the persistent fear and dread. Any thoughts anyone please!

    Anxiety can be biologically based 💯, but feel psychological. Research substance p, you can completely change your mindset based on brain chemistry .

I am really wondering what you are doing, Emma, with your 4 kids to teach them how to deesculate. How, and when, could you teach a child how to meditate or do the breathing exercises? I understand that this course isn’t geared towards kids but are there resources you would recommend?

    Unless the “anxiety” is actually “akathisia” and is from medication damage. I had no idea until I got hurt worse, how I was getting hurt on a lower level. Taking care of mental health does not mean medications if you are smart. Chronic akathisia is hell on earth.

    Question on the schedule worry time and brain dump, I do this and it creates more anxiety. Have tried putting it in a box (in my mind), and put it on the shelf for later. But ends up coming up at night after 2-3 hours of sleep, bam! wakes me up and that's it for the night....I get up and try shaking, yoga, meditation, doing the 3-3-3 senses, listen to stories...takes hours but helps a little then I go back to bed and it starts all over again. You mentioned a sleep coach, could you please put that up now or soon, have started looking into a sleep coach? My acute anxiety has now created "insomnia" which has started taking a toll on my body. Looking forward to taking the course.

    I dont think DPDR what I would feel if I was being eating by a tiger. Its not a freeze. But yes it is a full depletion.
