New Rules & Requirements for OCI Cardholders [Easy Explanation] 2021

- According to a recent change in law, the government of India announced that OCI Cardholders are no longer required to have their OCI cards re-issued each time they obtain a new passport.
The new rules for OCI cardholders to update their information on the OCI online portal reduce the administrative burden on OCI cardholders, who previously needed to apply for new OCI cards. The new rules are as follows:
‣ OCI cardholders under the age of 20 no longer need to obtain a new OCI card when their passport is renewed.
‣ OCI cardholders must obtain a new OCI card the first time their passport is renewed after they reach the age of 20. After that, they do not need to obtain a new OCI card when their passport is renewed.
‣ OCI cardholders who are aged 50 or older no longer need to obtain a new OCI card when they acquire a new passport.
‣ OCI cardholders are at par with Indian citizens in the matters of tariffs in airfares in Indian domestic sectors and entry fees for visiting Indian national parks, museums, wildlife sanctuaries, national monuments, and historical sites.
‣ OCIs must procure special permission (or a special permit) to undertake the following activities - Mountaineering; Research or journalistic activities; Missionary or Tabligh activities; Internships or employment with offices of any India based foreign diplomatic missions or foreign government organizations; Visit any place in India notified by the Central government (or by any competent authority) as a protected or restricted or prohibited place or area; The special permission or permit is to be granted by a specified relevant authority, or the FRRO, or the concerned Indian Mission.

My doubt is...
My grand father is an Indian.. When i plan to apply for oci, indian mission in srilanka asking letter from local tahsildar which is actually a nativity certificate for my grandfather... So i started procedures i got letter from VAI and RI that they completed enquiry with their attestation and posted that letter to tahsildar to make native certificate... Now that tahsildar asking, are we issuing these kind of certificates without having the knowledge about this procedure... Now what should i do for next step... Plz advice me clear explanation coz am waiting almost one month...

Hi , my son is 21 now. His oci was issued in 2014 when he was 13. His passport is renewed in 2018, then we did not change his oci card. We are planning to go to India in May. Re-issuance of OCI registration certificate is not mandatory each time a new passport is issued between 21-50 years of age. However, if the applicant wishes to obtain new set of OCI documents, he/she can apply for the same. If the OCI card is issued at the age of 50 years, there is no need for re-issuance of OCI.

Why do we have to give up our Indian passport when applying for Australian citizenship? It should have a stamp saying it is no longer valid but we should be allowed to retain our passport.

Actually this is what happens. The Indian passport is returned stamped that the Indian citizenship is revoked on acquiring a foreign citizenship
Either Australian Government and/or Indian government do not permit dual citizenship. That is why one must denounce the previously held citizenship.
If we have a India visitor visa 10years and COVID pendamic situation government cancelled our 10years visa was we paid fee, do they return our money and transfer in OCI

But has citizenship of 2 countries in which both countries allow dual citizenship ( example finland and switzerland)...

Hi Anuziya, in this situation, OCI card will be allowed as OCI Card does not grant Indian Citizenship - only a lifelong visa.
In all the posts on You Tube there is no clear statement as to the number of days in any one tax year a European passport holder of Indian origin holding OCI can stay in India. It has been 182 days up to now but now there seems to be a lot of confusion & ambiguity & no one seems to want to address this very important question! Yes, they send an acknowledgment to your registered email address.

@@WhytecroftFord I have got the confirmation email with a reference# and location it is in review. Now it has been 3 months and still teh same status on portal. I have called Indian embassy Support number asking if only this reference print out is required to travel or email confirmation is needed or do we need any separate document? As usual no response and asked me to send an email to embassy, sent them two emails so far and no response received. Not sure what after email confirmation. Please let me know if anyone knows something. Thanks.

I applied for oci multiple times and got denied just because i lost my old indian pass port. I even applied through my husband but got denied. I applied from india and from us but result same. What can i do in this case
