1. Dante #1 is silly and clever kind of cool with total bad ass backing. The type that can be in a room full of bad guys, target the one with a cigarette in his mouth. upper cut the cigarette out of his mouth. clear the room before the cigarette hits the ground, catches it then say, " It'll kill ya"
Rather than just slapping a soda though produced by demons out of the hand of a random fat guy and saying "
It'll kill ya"
2. Classic Dante enjoyed every second of what ever he was doing always ridiculing his enemy by having fun in the midst of a life or death encounter enraging the enemy even more by making them seem that less significant, and would talk down to them as is they were not giants but house pets.
New Dante , would rather have a screaming cursing match like two people on different sides of a trailer park. He doesn't look like he enjoys anything, just broody and Emo. Like even he , doesn't want to be in this game. He has the look and manner of a disgruntled employee who just shows up for work only because he's got no where else to go.
I can actually SEE number 1 happening in my head, especially as an introduction to the Balrog weapon if it got one. Like, Dante in his shop, very reminiscent of DMC3, when a bunch of demons burst through and it creates a scene like you described.
You could describe it as "one is coping with... everything... by trying for humor wherever he can squeeze, it in and the other forgot about his trauma for half the game, and still manages to be an emo about it before and afterwards.

The thing i hated the most about the reboot is how they raped Sparda's character. Sparda was supposed to be this badass demon general who made the demon king his bitch sealed the demon portal with 2/3 of his power and still beating the shit out of evil incarnate with just 1/3 of his original power remaining. I would have liked it better if we get a devil may cry game where we play as Sparda.

Not gonna lie, that club scene really shows that the right choice of music can make a difference. it became far more unsettling while a remix of harder better faster stronger is playing and engrossed me far more than what actually played in game.
The grapple chain is nothing but a crutch. Dante actually had a thousand times more mobility and control in DMC4 compared to DmC, if you were good enough to use the system to it's full effect. The difference in complexity between the two games is almost absurd, to be honest.
And once again I am on my own with my hatred of this game.
I keep hearing that the gameplay is fun, that the art-style is great, and all these other things. But you know what? At the end of the day, it isn't enough for me. Because, at the end of the day, I still hate this game more than I've hated any other title.
I don't care that they changed Dante's appearance. I don't care that Dante and Vergil half-demon. And, above all, I don't care that this game may have been fun to play. And you know why?
Ninja Theory. It was clear to me that these guys did not have any appreciation for the love this series got and, in fact, took great pains to say they had "fixed" said series. "Your series is just a dumb little action game, and ours is better, deal with it." That's the impression I get. And it's this slap in the face that I refuse to dignify.
And, judging by the low sales, I suppose other fans felt the same way. I'm just happy DMC4SE is coming out. Because the true tragedy is not that this game exists, but that it may have killed a universe I fell in love with.
RIP Dante. Hopefully this punk doesn't damage your name too badly.

I don't like them, so they don't get my money. And given the less-than-expected-sales of this game, it's clear others followed my lead.
Is it petty? Probably, but I really don't care. I refuse to play a game that can't decide if it wants to pander to me or insult me.
Look I respect your opinion but let me tell you that u can't judge a game for its sales , I know it's the developer goal after all to get money , but If u gonna put it that way , then many games were misjudged bec of sales thing , Take Prototype 2 as an example if u Know it , the game is pretty awesome and a continue to the great success of prototype 1 , but c as soon as the fans knew the new storyline and that u'll be playing as another character than the first , not just that but the guy in the first game with greaaaaat popularity called 'Alex Mercer' is the villain in the New one and u'll have to kill him in the end , this was a bomb to his fans and some judged the game for that and didn't buy it , though Activision had put an Alex Mercer skin , they still hate !
And it didn't meet expectations and prototype stopped . Now search how many fans want prototype and mercer back !
Bottom line is
There are many games that were misjudged , that's not fair
But again I respect your view of it

Lady defined the meaning of the Devi May Cry title in Devil May Cry 3, which is why DmC: Devil May Cry's title is quite alienated from its story, because Devil May Cry isn't just "a" title, it has its reason to be there. I remember somewhere where the reboot was meant to be titled "Devil May Care".....

I appreciate that review at the end. I too notice that they are elements to the gameplay and things like that that are an interesting addition. The problem that persists however, and the one that also details how most DMC fans viewed this game, as well as most of Capcom's franchises these days, not just this one, is the disrespect towards gamers from developers. This game was an entire f**ck you to DMC fans. At that point, it didn't matter what quirks it did or didn't have, how good it was or anything; this was a developer of ninja theory coming in and saying, "Well I can make a better DMC than all of you and f**ck you if you disagree." While Capcom did most of the grunt work anyway for his team. And now it's like every aspect of the game is a mockery of DMC and its fans. The bastardization of the story, the mechanics being purposely different from DMC but still keeping the moves from DMC, and all that stuff. I personally never said that this was a bad game, it's alright, but not-

It just would've been like another DMC2 if the developers weren't assholes. Much like you said, it's a decent game, but it's not DMC standard. Which would be fine, if not for the long time to make and the devil opera being assholes. I wouldn't of minded seeing the original Design of DmC Dante being an emo and serious guy while having the funny stuff like that go on. Kinda like the reverse Dante. DkXboxer Honestly from the looks of it, the game is pretty ok, although there are some things I like to complain from this game. First, was Virgil's own personality being changed, it's unjust and not right, he was supposed to be a powerful guy who seeks power because their mother was killed but not in this game, he looks like a fanboy who thinks having a sword a long would make him look powerful and cool. Second, was the immature jokes and by immature jokes, by immature jokes I mean the constant saying of the word "fuck you" I mean I don't mind the swearing but the lines that were meant to be jokes that just says mostly fuck you is not a smart way to make a joke like Old Dante does it. But overall, the reboot Dante is still a guy who makes fun of his enemies and tries to save the world with his own reasons, the only shit thing here is Virgil, the combat system which is not extreme enough, uncreative bosses, and I guess that's it.

You know what's funny here? It's that in the game's french dub, Phineas is voiced by Morgan Freeman's official VA, so good point :).
If you don't remember anything up to a point due to menengitis, and people tell you it's because of menengitis, you will remember because it'd be after the ailment, and he never had menengitis anyway. The story goes they used demon power to wipe his memory and told him he had menengitis.

I don't understand why so much people attacked you for your last video about this game. It was your opinion, and also you put just humor and satirical stuff.
I admit, I hate DmC, specially for being an unwanted and unneeded reboot of a franchise which just had a new addition (Nero) with a lot of potential for a sequel in DMC4. Also, trashy attitude from the 'hero', weak plot, mediocre gameplay (in general); I fully played it only once, and actually never felt the need to replay it. But, I don't hate people who enjoy this game... also, I don't understand why people from both sides get too offended about stuff like this...
Anyway, good thing is that this reboot failed and Capcom actually dropped the game for good (and I mean, the DmC game, not the DMC franchise; they renewed the DMC trademark a few months back, so that means nothing is lost yet... there's hope for a true DMC5...). Dino/Donte is as good as d-d-d-dead.
It's a solid game that fits DMC's gameplay like a glove, the style they chose just wasn't any good. I think that if they had at least had a slightly updated version of classic dante's personality, it would have actually given his character growth more weight, as it would make him actually more likely to not give two fucks about anything rather than acting like he doesn't give two fucks.

I am one of those that didnt enjoy the game, not because of the new Dante, or anything. I just didn't get the feeling that I was playing a good hack and slash game. And they even fucked up the Devil Trigger. Neither do I care about the whole "Not in a million years" line, I found that one funny, as someone who loves the original Dante. But I just didnt think the game was all that good. I dont mind them making a DmC2 game, as long as they improve on the game..... And remember the lock on feature (I know its in the Definitive Edition) but worse things has happened than this game.... Like Final Fatnasy 13 trilogy.
MasterCrado 13-2 and lightning returns were good games at least but I liked DmC for it's combat, lv design and content.

It was an enjoyable game to play with a cohesive (if clichéd) plot; it just wasn't a Devil May Cry game. How I tend to explain it to people nowadays is think of how Black Flags would have been better as a new IP as opposed to Assassin's Creed shoehorned in. And in all fairness the original DMC games had a continuously coherent plot just this side of the Zelda timeline.
The original Devil May Cry games have a amazingly cohesive plot if you actually pay attention. This Game's plot was boring and cliche as all hell. That's not very gripping compared to the old original Devil May Cry the series.

I think the reason Dante would've been able to hurt Kat is due to the fact she IS a medium and can phase between the real world and Limbo. The swat members aren't phasing into Limbo the same way Kat is so they cant be affected.

what is the audio from?
To me the "mln years" scene was more than a "ahahah original DMC is shit", for reasons like:
- it's more original for a reboot bringing the main character to develop his design during games, and probably in DmC2 we could gain a more iconic/adult Dante, and why?
- Because reboot follow schemes of the original, and in fact DANTE'S HAIR START TURNING WHITE DURING THE GAME, resembling more the original; to me this isn't a way to joke the old saga, because it followed it;
- keep long hair if you plan a game with multiples sequels (because game developers started to set an open ending for this reason) don't give you the chance to develop the design a lot for future games because you just have the "most iconic Dante" view; also demon form his hinted by the ending of DmC, but a sequel never came; to me short hair was a great thing (and they reused the idea to make Nero better, a character who actually needed design change because in 4 he was a Dante's copy);
- New Vergil of dmc5 it's a mix of vergil of 3 and reboot; shit like envy and Vegeta's behaviour where not from dmc3, where he was a cold planner and have no time for childish shit, man; and the shit "He was beaten so many time he become a d*ck" for me ruins a character; they took a part of the story of the reboot and put with force in the new game, making a little disaster in my opinion, because he was just jealous before to be beaten ("mommy saved dante and not me", also V: "I was playing in the park when they came to kill us", well ok); If you like and say Vergil in 5 it's like 3 or better of him and say reboot is shit, that's a contraddiction; Vergil of 3 was a GOD as a character.
DMC 5 (and 4 SE) stole a lot of DmC's features, because they worked (Vergil moveset from dmc4 gained Reboot Vergil's combos, also teleport spirit blades, DMC5 doppelganger it's based on DmC and the DLC, a lot of enemy resemble those of DmC , like rolling beastes, and so other things).
I think it's hard to shit on a game like this: It's good, very good, story is good BUT characters are not too much (still the idea, similiar to "They Live" it's actually good). Still makes more sense of the ending of DMCV which I disliked.
I prefer the original saga, obviously, but if I had the chance to get them both get continued, I would be happy.

This game started off as another prequel to dmc3. But that idea got scrapped and they went with halfass reboot.

the9 tailedgamer actually I bought the definitive edition so I used the dmc1 costume for my 1st 2 playthroughs
DmC wasn't that fun for me. I hated the lack of lock-on, the crazy framerate on the PS3 version, the various infinites you could do in the game... DmC just seemed to lack any challenge. It's like they castrated the difficulty for 6 year olds. DMC4 is easily better than DmC with the style switching combos you could pull off with Dante. The art design for the levels in DmC were cool though.
Video might be 4 years old and the game more so, but I have to say; I love elevator parts. You got action packed fighting, then go into an elevator and go up. What happens? No entries, no fighting, just elevator music and boredom. It's one of my more funny parts of some games.

DMC4 actually sold a lot more than the reboot. The problem with DMC4 was it wasn't finished. All these toys yet the playground wasn't big enough....
I've been trying to remember what DmC reminds me of and it's just come to me: it reminds me of the Harry Potter Fanfiction My Immortal. Not in every single way. Devil May Cry is no Harry Potter, and DmC is no My Immortal...but think about it. There are just so many parallels.
His review at the end makes me think DmC is the Hitman: Absolution of Devil May Cry.

I have to vastly disagree with you guys about what you were saying at the end...
1. While the grapple mechanic is... useful in the reboot, it is SEVERLY overly lengthened. You can reach enemies across the damn fighting areas. There is no limit save for the shitty camera that you need to point at enemies properly just so you can use your grapple, but that's just a lock on issue due to DmC:DmC having no true hard lock on like previous games. (and that's not even talking about the very, VERY lacking combat in general the new game boasts in comparison to the two predecessors before it, DMC3 and DMC4). DMC4, as powerful as grappling was in that game, it had a shorter reach, even after upgrading, and took a decent amount of skill, enemy knowledge (because the devil bringer can be countered through dodges, or blocking), and timing to use effectively, especially on higher difficulties.
2. The replay value that you talk about is bullshit. Collectables and secret missions were in previous DMC games as well, and half the time took some descent exploration skills to actually seek out. Adding keys to the mix was unnecessary, and making it so that half of them you couldn't go and collect until AFTER you beat up to a certain point or beat the game entirely really just causes it to be VERY artificially lengthened. Secrets and collectables in linear games should be available if you're keen enough to find them RIGHT FROM THE GET GO. Again, this wasn't an issue in the previous games.
3. New game plus should ADD to the core game, such as adding secret bosses, brand new challanges, or items/weapons that spawn ONLY on higher difficulty levels, post first playthrough, NOT bar you from items and challenges that already exist. It goes back to point 2, in that all it's doing is artifically lengthening the game. You could argue about the one secret weapon you get after beating the game, but that's only ONE, and it's pretty much useless.
4. But the issue remains, it carries the name Devil May Cry. That is a fact. If it's supposed to be judged on its own merits purely, it should be either its own game, or it should do such a radical genre shift that people have no choice but to judge it on it's own. This game was designed to REBOOT the series, to resemble it strongly, and it did not do its job well. As a hack n slash on its own, it's ok, people can have fun with this, but as a DMC game, it's sub par, right next to DMC2.
It's ok if you like the game. That isn't the issue. But, don't say that people are just nostalgic for the previous ones. Hell, the series really isn't that old to warrent nostalgia. MAYBE DMC1, but NOT DMC3 (which came out 2005) or 4 (which came out 2008). DmC: DmC is a watered down version of the franchise (even more so than for the sins you listed in your videos, or the points I brought up here). That's just how it is, and that's why alot of fans are miffed.

I disagree, mostly because while the combat is less advanced...DMC1 has the coolest enemies, especially as new enemy types actually start to appear as you change difficulty.

Of course DMC is so low because the combat and enemies in 4 are outstanding even if the story is kinda meh. But it is better than 2 by a huge margin in my opinion.

...Seriously they made all that ambient background music too, along with that band that did that made the grunge sounding music they put together a DMC soundtrack that stands out among the entire series.

Honestly this game would have got better feedback if it wasn't an attempted reboot of Devil May Cry....if it was its own game about demons it would probably have been loved......Personally as a stand alone game i like it but as a DMC attempted reboot I hate it, Combat- wonderful and very fresh,Story - a mashup of DMC1 and DMC3 with an anti-consumerism message Character design - Oh Boy I think I don't need to explain this but anybody else think Nero in DMC5 looks very similar to DmC's Dante, personally I feel Vergil is the best (re)designed character in this game also his personality is much better he isn't "Look at me i'm a brooding anti-hero that hates his brother and I want to gain power by any means necessary" this sentence sums up Vergils character in the main continuity this Vergil had more to him than that he's more ruthless but he actually cared about Dante despite only being reunited with him for a short time....also i've never liked a hack n slash games control system more than this game....but anybody else think Nero in DMC5 looks very similar to DmC's Dante

For all of the plot's problems, got to give props to them for making Mundus a competent villain who already has taken over the world, and not just desired to take it over.

I think (or at least hope) I can speak for all the hardcore Devil May Cry fans out here and say that I'm not mad at what the game was trying to do, I'm mad at what it did. It smacked the hardcore fans in the face and said "here, see this much better modern Devil May Cry game? You're gonna sit here and like it" It tired to be an appealing game for new and old fans alike, but ignored the critical thing that stuck with all of us. The characters. That's what draws us to the franchise and allows us to stay loving it with the passion that we do. Which is why when something like this is shoved at us without the same love the fans enjoy, our love is turned into a burning hatred. Now the game mechanics are solid but it isn't the same. It's one thing to try and offer a different spin on the original, but it's another to flat out say "Fuck you" and carry on. No one can deny that that's what has happened with this game. So at the end of the day, I'll hate the game for what it did and not what it tried to do.

as side from the main character them game play is pretty solid, tight controls, not enough combo choices per weapon for my taste but the switch between is pretty fluid. Awesome game play satisfying combat. Definitely worth a replay, just as long as you can ignore They story and cut scenes

One more sin you missed is that this Dante does not have a taunt mechanic like dmc 1 3 and 4
i don't think the devs behind the original series thought up the grapple system before dmc4 & by then Dante had already been established, so giving him this new weapon that makes it significantly easier would've been a bad call... instead they made a new character (Nero) & gave him the grapple to help you understand the game before switching to Dante. sure grapple systems make it an entirely different game, but you can't be comparing donte to ps2 origins Dante, the appropriate comparison would be to ps3 dmc4 Dante, in which donte is basically nero with more handholding & without the cool arm tricks.
I distinctly remember some of these "rejected" sins being in the actual sins video...

I couldn't agree with you more on the last bit. The first Devil May Cry game I played was the 3rd one and I totally fell in love with the character. Just everything about his over-the-top personality was awesome. Played the rest of them, even though (strangely enough) I'm not really a fan of the hack&slash genre, I just loved how awesome and funny Dante is. When I saw the reboot Dante, I felt like I wanted to cry, because they changed the best part about the whole game (imo): Dante's personality. I decided to give the game a chance, despite feeling like a traitor when I bought the game and was pleasantly surprised with the gameplay mechanics. I actually enjoyed it more than the original DMC games. But I still sorely missed that funny, smart-ass, charming, sassy attitude of the original Dante.
I actually still play it to this day when I have no new games to play and I find myself enjoying the gameplay more and more but rolling my eyes in total disgust whenever a crappy cut scene comes on with "Dante" being an arsehole. I don't think I've ever played a game that I felt so torn over 😅
If they had kept original Dante with the new gameplay, it would be a 10/10. Or if you don't view it as a Devil May Cry game, you might just like it more 😜😉

4:12 YES. THIS. SO HARD. It irritates me to the damn BONE that they used "Nephilim" to mean a "half-angel half-demon", when a Nephilim is ACTUALLY a half-human half-angel. What's the name for a half-demon half-angel? A DEMON. Why? Because the union of angel and demon is literally impossible and I don't mean that in a "good can never love evil" or some shit, I mean that once an angel sexually interacts with a demon, she/he becomes a fallen angel. A demon. In fact, there's even a name for a half-human, half-demon, otherwise known as Cambions. Because those unions can exist. Angels and demons, no. Maybe this game messes with that idea but that does not change the definition of Nephilim.
I also liked that you guys mentioned how much of a shitbag Vergil became in the first part of this by shooting Lilth when she had her back turned to him, after promising to not hurt her. Vergil is a bad guy, yes, a dick, oh yeah, but he is a man of honor. If he makes a promise, even one he regrets, he would not go back on his word - especially if it involved shooting someone from behind.
Love the fact that you recognized that DMC was a good game... but you should do the same extra for TLOU... it looked like you had a hard time finding the sins!!

Except.. It wasn't unnecessary, Dante was sealed away in dmc2 and it was stated that despite the hint at the end he's still trapped in hell, dmc4 takes place before 2 even though Dante looks younger in 2 (mostly because 2 was made first) and they had no way to bring Dante back from that

I loved the game,I loved the story. Yes I hated how Sparada was stripped from his Demon powers,and vergils voice wasnt all that intemidating,the hat was weird. But I loved both characters,especially Dante. At least It wasnt a DMC 2,but I loved the gameplay in DMC 2. DMC 4 Was great as well too. Its funny how all the whiney scunt bags who "love" DMC,cant accept change. Its funny because the ratings from OFFICIAL CRITICS are High on this game. The rates are higher than you all are.

If I may say something, I think the reason Dante couldn't kill the guards is because they didn't have a link to limbo like kat did. Could be wrong. I never played the game and don't know the whole plot but just something that came to mind :3

that is what most fans of the old devil may cry games say about this game. if it wasn't a devil may cry game it would have been really good (aside from a few gripes here and there) but because they chose to reboot a series that didn't need it and slap on the devil may cry name, the game gets a lot of hate.
