Disgaea 5 is easily the best for me its just so polished and the animations are way snappier due to the better hardware (Disgaea 1 has best story though)
disgaea 5 has best mechanics but worst story ( really boring for me ) really fun to play, but not memorable ( because i dont care about 95% of the characters)
Javier Sama - honestly, IMO Disgaea 5 had the worst mechanics. They ruined so many of the mechanics that used to feel so rewarding for the sake of quality of life changes. Disgaea 2 was probably my favorite of the series, even though hey cut out staticians. They kind of ruined Disgaea 5’s capture system by making it super easy to capture enemies and making it less rewarding to add them to your team. You lose the progression of training new members from scratch and it makes adding captured members to your team seem like a lesser option. The gameplay was ludicrously easy until post game where you had to grind for hours upon hours between each unlocked level. Equitable items become so so so useless post game too, because even the epic items seem to have sucky stat additions. I know that there is a way to make them add a ludicrous amount of stats, but my point is that it’s needlessly complicated and tedious when they should let you make use of the best items in the game without endless grinding. When stats where simpler I felt like 100 to 200 levels on an item was a fair grind, but now it’s gotten ridiculous and even at the end of the many many levels that an item can have they still have negligible stats compared to the stats that my main character has. I probably have a few more examples, but I’ve already wanted enough of my time. I’ll try to go into more detail and some other examples if you want me to. I guess you can’t please everyone. I mean I’m happy that you like where the series is going. I just wish I did too. Hopefully the insane numbers of the 6th game won’t hamper my experience, hopefully it won’t be to easy until the post game, and hopefully it won’t have insane jumps between challenge levels.
if we're talking graphics the newest will usually always be the best all things considered, but gameplay and story wise it's open to interpretation and comparison to the other games.
Saugen - I mean one can argue that pixel graphics are more endearing or more appealing to certain audiences, but I generally don’t care too much about the graphics as long as it’s serviceable. It’s mainly gameplay and story that I care about.
@@shearman360 I loved slightly more serious story with Rozalin actually being Zenon and All the hints of Adell being a demon baked in before we realize it.
"Parodies the 2008 presidential election" "Back then it was the craziest election" Then 2016 happened and a reality TV host memed himself into ultimate power.
I'm gonna put it out there that I don't like the Disgaea 1 rereleases that use the HD sprites. I feel like a big charm about Disgaea 1 is in the tone and the art style and not only does the more faded and rougher look of the PS2 graphics add to that, but I think the bright and colorful HD sprites actually clash with the tone of the game. Disgaea 1 had a bit of an eerie art style, just look at the prinny and its obivous how much they have been cutened up, but also an example I like is the Jack'o'Lantern cut in from the original much more than in the remakes. Also HD sprites actually caused some original classes that were only in Disgaea 1 to be replaced with sprites from newer games essentially erasing them from existence. Also I'd say D2 and DD2 are the best, and Phantom Brave is literally my favorite game.
You could consider Makai Kingdom as a Disgaea Spin-off, considering that they're in the same universe. Zetta and Pram makes a lot of cameos on Disgaea games and Laharl, Etna and Flonne did make a cameo on Makai Kingdom.
Thank you for showing appreciation to Disgaea 3 cause not gonna lie if I’ve never played Disgaea 3 I would have missed out on the entire Disgaea series.
Nobody should show a console exclusive any appreciation, consoles monopolizing a game is bad for the game and the gamers and the more people that support it, the more it will happen. Disgaea 3 and Disgaea D2 are both F tier games for a reason, F tier means literally unplayable, since they require specific hardware they are... literally unplayable. The fact that people don't consistently call out developers for exclusivity is a mind fuck. Everybody makes excuses even though there isn't a single good excuse for a game to be made exclusive.
@@Neptune_Cpu I'm pointing out why nobody really talks about Disgaea 3 or Disgaea D2, the exclusivity to dead hardware. Thanking somebody for showing appreciation towards a game nobody can really play is a pointless exercise.
@@SherrifOfNottingham So whats wrong with showing appreciation towards old console exclusive games? Besides if Disgaea 3 and D2 were horrible then why do the devs keep bringing them back in newer installments of the Disgaea series?
I've played and finished all games, finished disgaea 5 recently, and I've gotta say disgaea 4 is my favorite. not only is the story great, but the voice acting feels so fitting, and has a lot of unlockables. Although that game really did show disgaea isn't made to be played multiplayer, those functions can be completely ignored.
Disgaea 1 is my favorite. Not because of the story or the characters, but because the game was simple and fun. I spent 160 hours on it and I loved every minute of it. The combat was simple and easy to learn. You can very easily grasp how to become very strong in the game just by playing it and didn't need a guide or the internet to help you. I discovered everything, got everything, maxed out what I needed, and was never lost on what to do. No over Disgaea title made me feel the same way. Also I got the game on the DS or something so it was much easier to play compared to turning on my tv and game console and being restricted where I could play. If based on characters than D5 takes the win with the most interesting cast. Best mc goes to D2 Adell. Best story is D3.
The unbeatable floors in Disgaea 1 thankfully seems to be fixed in D1 Complete. I've blown through hundreds of floors and it seems like the exit portal is always on the same platform you start on, so you can always just walk to it.
Disgaea is a series I like the IDEA of more than actually playing them. I love the goofy characters and stories, and I’m fond of the battle system as well. It’s just that I’m a completionist, and these games are long enough just playing casually. The thought of completing one of these games cripples me with fear and dread, and as a result I tend to either not play them at all or give up very early on due to the overwhelming amount of options and things to do. I really wish I wasn’t this way, but what can you do… To this day, I haven’t actually finished the main story on any of them, despite playing every mainline entry. I think I got the farthest on D2, because I really loved the characters and story, and I was happy to finally have a Disgaea game with HD sprites and backgrounds.
I started with 3 too. A guy in Gamestop swore up and down I'd love it, and he was right. Raspberyl has the best female design for as far as main characters go. prove me wrong!
I played 1000+ hours of OG Disgaea 1 on PS2 and the exit portal was ALWAYS on the same island as the start portal, seemingly hard-coded in. I genuinely don't know if getting stuck as mentioned in the video has ever been possible in D1, or if he's confusing it with another one.
For me the character classes were what made me go back and play a certain Disgaea. As such Disgaea 4 had me with the Super Hero and Prism Ranger class. I enjoy all of the Disgaea main games but Disgaea 4 Complete + is where it is at for me, dood.
I know in original DIsgaea 1 I would also run into spots in the item world where progression would be locked on a floating island, and it's the worst when the portal is way out there, but I've consciously noticed in the Disgaea 1 Complete remake that the portal is pretty much always attached to the platform you started on and doesn't have any geo panel effects underneath it anymore so that is a major improvement.
As a long time veteran of the series, I decided to share my own tier list of these games and the basic reasons why. I did play them in order since I got into the series prior to the release of Disgaea 2 (at the time I didn't know the stories were self-contained and pushed myself to go as far into the post-game as possible before picking up Disgaea 2). *Disgaea 1: Tier B* The titular starting place, and while I do suggest that any fan of Disgaea at least play the story mode, the post-game leaves much to be desired and there are many annoying things that are fixed in later sequels. The story itself is spectacular, but it works best as a guideline for the future games as Laharl, Etna, and Flonne are very enjoyable to watch. *Disgaea 2: Tier A* In many ways, the first sequel to Disgaea was a straight improvement over it's predecessor. Not only were there additions like the Dark World and Land of Carnage which drastically improved the grindy nature of hour of darkness' endgame, but felonies were added, allowing for an easier time grinding for experience and unlocking things in the Dark Assembly. The story itself cameos Etna, further developing both her and the original trios characters, as well as introducing several memorable main cast members. *Disgaea 3: Tier D* Undoubtedly the worst Disgaea cast, and most lackluster story. Despite new features like Magichange and evilities, the Geo Blocks puzzles are either tedious or frustrating. The class world also made some features which were previously easier to obtain, now require further grinding. To put the final nail in the coffin, this sequel is also when characters which used to be packaged in with the game were added as dlc. While not really all that major, it feels like a slap in the face when 10 of the secret characters are just basic reskins of generic classes. *Disgaea 4: Tier S* This is the quintessential Disgaea experience in both story and gameplay. Geo blocks are used only when necessary and present unique puzzles that couldn't be replicated with geo symbols. Monster Fusion works well in tandem with magichange and creates very interesting situations for the player to overcome in story mode. Every character in the cast grows as the journey progresses, and have redeeming qualities in both story and combat. Item World is much more interesting due to online features, and while Chara World is still annoying, it has much less prominence here. The post-game genuinely feels rewarding, but isn't as much of a spike as previous titles as the game hasn't held back any punches throughout the core storyline. DLC is treated with much more care than previous titles, featuring full bits of story and genuinely relays a sense of passion from the development team. Online mode is unique to this title, and being able to make/share your own stages as well as create a band of pirates to attack/aid others in the Item World is very enjoyable. *Disgaea D2: Tier E* A lot of points about this game feel rushed, and as a result things were cut from this game. Mounting feels massively inferior to Magichange and Fusion. Sure, a lot of grind has been taken out, but nothing has been put in it's place, resulting in a much easier and frankly boring Disgaea title. It doesn't help that the story rivals that of Disgaea 3 in how bad it is, and if these characters didn't already have a strong background then it would definitely be worse. The only real good thing to come from this title is the Cheat Shop, which rewards players who actively progress the post-game as soon as possible as well as erasing the grind (it's no wonder that it became a mainstay in the series). *Disgaea 5: Tier B* While it was a massive step up from the previous entry, this title borrows way too much character-wise from Disgaea 2 & 4. That doesn't hinder it's story or post game in any way, but it distinctly feels like the game lacks innovation. What it does make up for is an amazing amount of polish that could easily reinvigorate any fan despite the fact that all of the season pass dlc was available from launch. A lot of powerful gimmicks were introduced in order to clear maps, such as Land Decimator, which made minor tasks once you got deep into end game less grindy. All in all, not a bad place to start, but it's certainly not the best in the series.
As a fan of the games that never got into the end game, i have to say that the only game where i strove to kill Baal was 5. The gama was just so clean and fast that you just kept going. I'd argue that 5 is A rank
D5 is a C for me because the story and most characters were generic and the features let us level up the fastest ever but felt unrewarding compare to previous disgaea which I really hope D6 increase grind to combat the speed of our growth. But yeah u know D5 is easy and short when someone is able to kill Baal max stats a little over 100hr
The Prinny games are my favorites. Both are really well made games that are obviously VERY heavily inspired by the classic Ghouls 'n Ghosts titles. If you don't like that style of gameplay you're not gonna like them, but if you do they are both masterpieces imo.
@@silverauron7850 I find that comedy aspect of 2 are just entertaining as disgaea 1 and there's also a good romance storyline also we go etna and lahar storyline in d2, I put 1 and 2 in the same tier
@@hellchaos5686 Understandable, it's just that Laharl is straight up a better protagonist in my eyes and Etna is my favorite character in the series period, so 2 simply can't win.
@@silverauron7850 lahar and etna are chaotic so much fun with their storyline while adell just a plain teenage boy but his chemistry with rozalin plus his demon family just hilariously brilliant
Disgaea 2 actually probably has the most hours of all the Disgaea series for me, but I like the revamped original and D2 much more. D4 was probably the one I liked the least.
3 is really underrated. I think mostly because of the graphics and the fact that so far it has not been ported to either PS4 or PC. But still on the top of my personal tier list. At least on par with the 4th. Regarding the current tier list, I personally would swap the 4th and 5th. The 5th characters are too generic... Also as it was noticed, they repeat some features of the previous ones. When I first saw Killia, I thought - Oh, looks like Valvatorez pretending to be Laharl and using Adell's fighting style. The girl also looks like any generic tsundere. Also she resembles a mix of Rozalin and Artina, but just more posturing. There is not a single character from 5 that could catch my interest. I couldn't even remember the names of most of the characters from 5. I has not yet finished Disgaea 2, however, to fully compare with others. But still.
agree!! killia is just not a very memorable or likable protagonist, seraphina is obnoxious, and basically every other character is just so boring that i hardly remember them. the most i can really say is that usalia and majorita have cute designs but if you asked me to name one thing about them i couldn't tell you. disgaea 4 has its problems with most of the characters being reduced to a running gag and fuuka and desco also being kind of annoying but at least they're unique and the game has charm and retains the feel of being a disgaea game
@@monicaraybrandt Exactly! Well, about the humor in 4th, I guess it's not so much a problem, as it's Disgaea's way of delivering humor in general, mostly ironic. It's just part of Disgaea, making puns even out of moments that are supposed to look like a tragedy - I look at that as sort of a calling card of the series. Perhaps the 4th just has this more than the rest. As for Usalia, yes - a definitely cute character, but that's all. If you ask me to tell you about her, then all that comes to mind is "A cute bunny girl who loves(?) curry." And if you ask what is the point of Majorita - "A character who only exist to be a temporary bad guy to show that Usalia is a good person. Also - another loli-type character to add to the roster." Yeap, and that's it. At least, they have a more memorable visual design than others.
The reason why I got to Disgaea is the graphics (the old ones) because it looks like the MMO that I was addicted at that time which was Ragnarok Online
Disgaea 2 is my favorite one. Loved the main cast and it has my favorite intro. Can't believe you ranked it much lower then the third one which I think is the weakest game.
Judging by what you value in Disgaea games you'll LOVE "La pucelle: tactics/ragnarok" ,the Disgaea predecessor, cause you're clearly not biased by recency bias and you enjoy good stories and characters.
If I have to grade them respecting the graphic limitation per console and the fact that new mechanics are meant to be added as games are coming. Sure, Disgaea1 is the best game and it's also the best one to start from. My personal favorite is Dis3. The Delinquent/Honor student morale flip used was way to funny and Almaz is still my favorite character on all series. The idea of teaming up a "hero" and a "demon" and making the demon the hero and the hero a demon was not only fun but it made an interesting point of analisis. I remember how Almaz had ideas to steal back his title and discarding Mao yet his "hero" conviction (even as a demon) stopped him from doing despicable things, showing him go oposite from the Super Hero who would go as far low as needed to have an heroic battle
I've just started playing Disgaea 5, so I can't discuss about it, but I've played every other Disgaea game so I wanted to share my thoughts on every one I played ( I'm not counting the " spin-off " ones, but know that I appreciated them all ): - Disgaea 1 = My first (And favorite) Disgaea game. The story was really well played alternating moments of funniness with moments of sadness and friendship; gameplay was also ok for being the first in the series, and there were many mechanics that had to be learned ( Item World was really complicated for me to grasp at first ). - Disgaea 2 = My personal worst. If I were to describe as to why, it's because I felt it too "serious": they took out most of the funniness from the first and replaced friendship with love, which is ok but I found it quite annoying in the long run... - Disgaea 3 = This one was also not so good in my opinion. It was basically quite the opposite of Disgaea 2, in which the prevailing part was "the funny scenes", but the story didn't really stand out, so it hasn't really given me anything worth remembering (Storywise). - Disgaea 4 = Now this is the second title that really standed out. The main character is wonderful: he does make funny words, but he always communicates something deep when he talks ( I really appreciate, and still remember, the part of how he tries to explain of how living does not necessarily mean " To have an identity ", but rather " To exist "; it really moved me ). I also found the thematic of " Love " from Disgaea 2 to be really well implemented. - Disgaea D2 = I was really excited to see a direct sequel of my first Disgaea! The characters were wondeful ( As they were originally ), but what I really appreciated here was the gameplay and large customization of skills ( You could choose the " Abilities " of every character upon creation, and you could inherit that selected " Ability " to your main characters, creating and finding the best combinations possible ). Really, really appreciated. All in all, my personal tier list would be: S) Disgaea 1 A+) Disgaea 4 A) Disgaea D2 D+) Disgaea 3 D) Disgaea 2
Now personally my favorite is 4. Valvatorez is my favorite main hero. This former badass Tyrant Vampire. Changed into a goofy lovable Vampire who loves Sardines. Disgaea 2 in my opinion has the best story.
How did you get stuck in the item world in D1? Once you make a team of throwers and have a character with a knockback or swap spaces skill the item world is a breeze. It's how I got the best gear and maxed them out while being super under leveled. Maybe it was a older version problem. I played the DS version.
In the PS2 version there is the possibility of the floor spawning an exit panel that's too far away to throw to for anyone in the game, I think 7 tiles. Making some floors in the original release LITERALLY unclearable regardless of team comp.
Disgaea 3 was my favorite of the bunch. Dont know why but i just love it. Between the fun cast, the story and the introduction of new mechanics its my favorite. I loved disgaea 1s cast as well but the gameplay differences in 3 made the difference. Hoping for a d3 switch release currently as my vita kinda bit the dust.
i played a lot of disgaea 1 versions, played the 2 and finished the 5, still, the worst disgaea in terms of gameplay (too much grinding just for the main story) almost unplayable is disgaea 1, it would be F in my opinion. not enjoyable at all, however disgaea 5 and D2 are the best ones (in terms of gameplay too) even if the story is so plain in D5 i rather play it before suffering again in D1 just for the story
Disgaea D2 also had a lawsuit over it because the translation added a bug that, if I recall correctly, broke a few ps3's when it froze on some fire animations. Perhaps that has something to do with its lack of a rerelease as well?
For me S: Disagea 1, Disgaea 2 A: Disgaea 5, Disgaea D2 B: Disagea 4 C: Disgaea 3, Disgaea 6 Disgaea 3 is so bad that even some Disgaea fans think Disgaea 3 is bad and that's why the game Disgaea 3 wasn't released on PC because it wasn't good enough that even Disagea 1, 2 & 4 were on PC.
Walking around in the base areas is such a tiny part of the game, you can easily kit out an entire army made out of female characters to play the game with. You don't walk around anywhere but a hub area anyway, the rest of it is on a grid or in cutscenes. The protagonist is not YOU, but you can make a character that is you and have them be the leader of the army. If you're afraid that male protagonists challenge your own masculinity or femininity, then you're not going to enjoy any part of life.
@@SherrifOfNottingham why did you make it personal lel. I just dont want to play games where i cant customise my protagonist, its 2022 not 2002. Customisation is everywhere from indie stardew valley to elden ring, im used to it
@@miavelvet go fuck yourself, honestly. I explained that you can literally create your own character in this game, male or female. You can make a whole army of whatever characters you want, but YOU are the one that wants to make it personal. You are upset that the story is about Laharl, Etna, Flonne 2 out of three of them girls. First off the best games in the series were not released in 2022 so get that out of your head, this is a JRPG, which means you're supposed to find yourself represented piece meal by a group of characters instead of having the western RPG standard of character creation. But this game gives you the best of both worlds. But you get hung up because you don't understand that running around the base as a guy, which is less than 1% of the game btw, is not a big deal. Go play the game, there's plenty of girls to look at if you're insecure about your masculinity. The story isn't about sex but the girls sure are dressed for it. Don't come posting questions like that about a game, it's just outright offensive that you spent so little time looking at the game that your question is about a side mechanic that isn't important.
Magichange is in Disgaea 1 and 2 as well. You did say you'd consider the remakes together as one game and most of the remakes have magichange added (PSP, PC and Complete versions)
Disgaea 5 is definitely the best one. But I understand why people like 4. I believe 4 has a good story, but because I don't play disgaea for its story, and for the gameplay, I have to give it to 5, as it is simply the peak in terms of mechanics, animations, etc.
Personally, for my favorite it would be a tie between 3 and 4. 3 brought a lot of things, 4 expended nicely on them. At the same time... I don't really like Mao, but it really feel like the whole game shines because of the interaction between the characters, and his character is the most important in that, not just because he is the main character but because he's so extra. Disgaea 4 as a cool cast, but the more I look back on it the more they feel like they each have one line... Except Altina and Emizel who just feel like they're vibing in the background. But at the same time, each story is great in its own right, DIsgaea 3 is all about that over the top level of stupidity that manages to slip itself in the more serious moments of the game without feeling like they're too much while Disgaea 4 does not hesitate to take a break in the humorous tone and be more serious at times. But in the end... Disgaea 3 is the superior one because Kyoko and Asuka. I am biased -also the unholy amount of fanservice with all the postgame characters. Disgaea 1 would be the next best thing. The story is great, cast is... Let's just say that if everyone forget Gordon, Thursday and ... The girl, there's a reason. But Laharl, Flonne and Etna are great... In Disgaea 1, because they also suffer from having one line too when they are not the MCs. But the story is very good, good world building, good humor, good balance between humor and serious moments, better than in 4. But the game is broken and has no chill towards the end of the story. What I mean by it's broken is that there's a clear dichotomy between what's good (Magic and swords) and bad (Axe and Monsters) and this makes the game feel very clunky, and somewhat barebone when compared to more recent entries. Though I still love getting back to it from time to time and the graphic style and character design of the first one is by far my favorite. Disgaea D2 is... Weird. On the one hand you get super interesting post game stuff like the Rasetsu Mode and the ability to build up characters without needing to level up items, which is insanely funny and I would have loved to see more of that. On the other hand, you get the return of absolutely busted magic and unbalanced game mechanics... And by busted magic I mean "if you use a staff" because Books had everything to be great, but took the worst of both worlds instead of the best -and once again, they were completely scrapped, what the fuck ? And the story is... I'm not sure I'd say it's bad... But it's not good. It has this issue with sequels where the characters stories were clearly over so they needed to add something more, and I like Sicily but a lot of it -like Xenolith and Etna secretly being extra super powerful- felt like a miss. Shout out to Barbara, I absolutely adore her and her interaction with Salvatore in her DLC. Disgaea 2.. I dunno, haven't played it. I'm kind of iffy about the characters, but I don't have anything to say. Disgaea 5 has some qualities... Like being able to change colors however you like... And also the fact that you can get DLC characters from the very beginning of the game meaning you are not forced to suffer the annoying cast. The rest ? You can throw it in the trash. The story ? Trash. Characters ? Trash. New game mechanics ? Trash. The fights of the main story ? You pick up all those fights with the armor guy and that shitty stupid fight against a bajillion zombies where the difficulty suddenly jumps you like you're a Londonian prostitute in the 1890's and dunk that shit directly in the dump. New quality of life improvement ? First you define improvement and then you throw that shit away. And last but not least: locking saves behind a language wall and also hiring people that visibly do not speak a certain language for the translation of said language ? Fuck you.
I can't speak for 4, D2 and 5 as I haven't played much of them, but as for the others I'd put 2 at the top, followed by 3, then 1 1 does have a nice story with lots of tension and mostly good characters, though it suffers from reusing areas a lot around the middle of the game. I like its unique artstyle when compared to the later games, which is more of a gripe with how D1C counteracts this. The gameplay though, especially after playing the later games, is insufferably slow, and I just can't give it a better rating because of that. 3's setting was completely nonsensical. I get that you don't expect a Disgaea game to make that much sense, but there's usually some semblance of logic. A lot of the characters felt tacked on for the sake of having a larger cast, bigster and Salvatore especially. Like you said it also looks underwhelming, even the main hub looks boring and a bit too spacious. I will praise its gameplay through, it's the best out of what I've played so far. I absolutely love the skill merge feature, shame it doesn't come back in later games, getting overshadowed by magichange instead (which I barely use in any of the games). It was also the final game where the Majins made an appearance, which is sad. The perfect midpoint between those two is Disgaea 2. The characters were fun (minus the frog), the gameplay was solid, it looked great and had lots of postgame content. The felony system and the worldbuilding were the only two things I could confidently say were a downgrade from the first game.
There's an emergency escape item, you should never go into item world without one. Not just for this reason, but also in case the enemies get too strong for you to continue.
@@jamespilcher9234 Death resets you to your last save, and you can only save in the castle, in the newer versions it "autosaves" right before you enter so you can at any time revert back to right before you entered the item world. All the XP, items and progress you made is reset however so a door is a better option.
For me Disgaea 5 is the best one, I guess I just played it at the right time and left quite the impact. Probably after its 7 as its just an amazing experience (even thought I have only played it 30 hours so far). Next would be 1 for getting me into the series. 3+4 are next. I got a Vita just to play them and I fondly remember that period.
@cartoonvideos5 7 is quite a lot of fun even if some things are streamlined / missing. Personally, some of the new mechanics are quite fun. There are quite a lot of quality of life additions. 5 has been out for such a long time and naturally people feel attachment to it hehe.
I never really cared for tactics rpgs. I always wanted to but whenever I pick one up, I get bored and or frustrated. I really want to play these for some reason. I’ll pick up the first one and see how it goes
i feel like its a bad example of a tactics rpg , its focused more on doing stupid damage. idk. I would suggest fire emblem , blazing sword if you want to start there (the story didn't keep me) or awakening. blazing sword , i had to look up what the stats meant , how damage was done (literally attack - defense) and double attack ( if your speed - their speed is 4 or greater) , and click , or bring cursor to enemy , would show their movement area , so i could plan around it , Im writing cause , i've usually seen shills go on about how great fe is , or tactics rpgs are And i got Fire emblem 3 houses and it SUCKED for me , until i hit a place where my units were dying. (which is what the game NEEDS to do) So if i could go from that to .... its ok... then you might also
I remember renting one of the earlier versions and got intimidated and confused by the item world stuff and it just seemed like a chaotic mess of nonsense so I didn't really play it. But then I bought D5 kind of on a whim/on sale and really enjoyed it and finally understood it's tone.
As much as i loved Disgaea 1 for its story and characters, the gameplay was super slow. Supposedly short battles in D1 took ages lol. Disgaea 5 perfected its gameplay and the story was solid, but didn't had the "charm" of the original Disgaea. DD2 is definitely the best one and top tier for me as well, and i hope NISA releases it on Steam For me the ranking is: S: DD2 A: D1, D5 B: D3, D4 C: D2
Disgaea 3 definitely had the best opening in the series. Also I did like Disgaea D2 but it I remember correctly at the time the game had a huge game breaking bug in it that may or may not actually effect the console.
Going to come back to this tier list after playing them all in order to see if I agree. See you in like 1000 hours+ dood Also I wonder where you'd put 6 and 7
Between PSNow(which is great for games like Disgaea, the lag doesn't really affect them), PC, PS4, and Switch, I have all the Disgaea games and plan on playing them all during this lockdown, IDK if I'll beat em all, but I'll least play em all..
Disgaea 5 has the best gameplay and item world algorithm, but hands down the worst writing. Bad characters and awful jokes in a series that usually never failed to make me laugh. The only good thing of disgaea 5s story is usalia and zerokens arc.
I respect your opinion, but I find it kind of interesting that all people don't like the story of Disgaea5... Because I really really enjoyed it... Is it just me? XD
Okay I made it pretty far into each of these games. Most of them I’ve 100%ed but Disgaea 3 I didn’t quite beat the final chalenge and Disgaea 2 I didn’t quite collect all of the to get to prinny island. So my rating would be: A. Disgaea 2 B. Disgaea 1 and Disgaea 4 C. Disgaea D2 and Disgaea 5 D. Disgaea 3 That was just my personal experience. I could defend my answers in detail if anyone wants, but I think the main things that come into play are a decent class system and progression system. I feel like the older games usually had really nice progression but Disgaea 2 brought it up a notch and made the classes more distinct. Disgaea 3 felt kind of boring the whole way through and the story was my least favorite so that wasn’t helping. I can’t even remember the progression system that well, but to be fare it’s been a while and I have played Disgaea 1, and 2 many times. (Disgaea 1 DS is by far superior to any other port of it) I haven’t played the IOS port yet, but it looks way too watered down and like a completely different experience with all the automation. Disgaea 4 was actually pretty decent the progression system was pretty challenging in its own right, though not quite as good as Disgaea 2s. Disgaea 5 had sucky progression all the way through and maybe I shouldn’t have abused some of the easier mechanics, but they shouldn’t have made these late game mechanics so easy to abuse. Speaking of late game, Disgaea 5s was by far the least fun to navigate. Disgaea D2 was just okay. It felt a lot like Disgaea 3 in its progression, but a bit better, I guess. The post game stuff felt kind of off here honestly, but compared to Disgaea 5 it didn’t feel completely broken. I’m just very particular about what I liked in the series I guess. Hopefully I’ll learn to enjoy Disgaea 6 as much as I enjoyed Disgaea the earlier Disgaea games even with the huge numbers and the many quality of life changes. Maybe they’ll hit their own progression system that better accounts for all of the mechanics that they added. Even if they don’t I can still hold out for a Makai kingdom (pretty good game, but it’s only on PS2) or Phantom Brave (also a pretty good game.) remake.
D1 agreed S tier, but I give Prinny series S tier for platforming since the controls though indeed clunky is part of the fun to learn and master. Also secret late game Baal boss
Disgaea infinite was the first game I ever played of the series. And I was so confused through the whole thing. Last year picked up d5 on switch and loved the voice acting + art. Now waiting for D6 to get released here.
My favourite Disgaea is the third one, I know this is the black sheep of the franchise because of some mechanics and gameplay, but the story is the most nonsensical and funny of all the games. And Mao and Almaz are a perfect comedic duo, Almaz is the straight man of comedy for Mao is madness. And Beryl the best rival. This game for me represents the best aspects of the franchise quirky and sometimes cringe humor and goes all the way up to eleven. Characters like Mr. Champloo era like the perfect parody of a Naruto character and Master Bigstar, salvatore and Super Hero Aurum are the funniest antagonists in the series.
Meh, don't know, started with 1 and loved it right away... I mean, Disgaea is my type of game, but still, I think one is the best place too, and it's a bit more tame with gameplay, doesn't have so many systems and stuff
@@musicfriendly12 but you don't need all the to enjoy D5, the main story and DLC can easily take 100 hour wich gives you your moneys worth also D5 is really easy compared to D4 and D1(least early on it is)
What I've noticed playing 1-4 is that none of the main characters are as charismatic or powerful as Laharl. I first noticed this in 2. The two main characters were fist and gun users. I was like, "Wait, I can't just plow thru my enemies early on anymore?"
@@similaritiesendhere kilia and val are both pretty good m8, used only kilia for all of D5 until I got to carnage baal getting 4 actions per turn is really OP(maids help and take no effort lol)
As a newcomer to the series who is at the colosseum part of 2, what makes disgaea 5 so good for new players? I'm interested in picking it up, but 2 doesn't seem all *that* complex from the giant steam guide I read on it
Disgaea 5 is easily the best for me its just so polished and the animations are way snappier due to the better hardware
(Disgaea 1 has best story though)
disgaea 5 has best mechanics but worst story ( really boring for me ) really fun to play, but not memorable ( because i dont care about 95% of the characters)
@@saugen3332 D6 looks like PSone FF7, D5 is majestic.
You missed a 9 when you were giving the franchise synopsis about leveling; 9999, not 999.
I really admire this series. Disgea ain't even that mainstream, yet the games clearly have heart and passion put into them

All nis classics and prinny games are disgaea spinnoffs
Disgaea is a La Pucelle spinoff, so whatever
Makai Kingdom is an amazing game and we need more with these mechanics.
@@SherrifOfNottingham dude this comment is 2 years old get over it.
Besides if Disgaea 3 and D2 were horrible then why do the devs keep bringing them back in newer installments of the Disgaea series?

favorite rpg characters alongside the tales of series.
A new YSN video, and it's on Disgaea? Ah, my day just got better :3
Finally someone who can appreciate Disgaea 3 and D2!
I started with 3 too. A guy in Gamestop swore up and down I'd love it, and he was right.
Raspberyl has the best female design for as far as main characters go. prove me wrong!
Oh yeah, agree with you there. I'm glad that she has a strong presence in Disgaea 6, she's one of my favorite and admirable people.
i love herrr she's tied with flonne for my fav female character in the series 🥺❤️
Rozalin isn't really the daughter of an overlord though...

2.d4,d6 maki kingdom
3.d3

5.phantom brave prinny 1
I disagree with your list, but respect your decision.
There is absolutely 100% no way in Hell, Tartarus, Hades and all the Netherworlds in existance that disgaea 3 is better than 2
3 is really underrated.
If you ask me to tell you about her, then all that comes to mind is "A cute bunny girl who loves(?) curry."
And if you ask what is the point of Majorita - "A character who only exist to be a temporary bad guy to show that Usalia is a good person. Also - another loli-type character to add to the roster." Yeap, and that's it.
At least, they have a more memorable visual design than others.
2:29 don't forget to say that the footage you show is revamped D1 in PS4.
The reason why I got to Disgaea is the graphics (the old ones) because it looks like the MMO that I was addicted at that time which was Ragnarok Online
Wait a second. You're telling me this entire channel is about Senran, Neptunia, and Disgaea and I am just now finding it??!?!!!
Disgaea 2 is my favorite one. Loved the main cast and it has my favorite intro. Can't believe you ranked it much lower then the third one which I think is the weakest game.
Agreed.
Would you include all second release versions i.e Dark Hero Days, D1 HD, D3/D4 PS VITA releases, in the same slots as their mainline counterparts?
We really need a full HD collection.
Judging by what you value in Disgaea games you'll LOVE "La pucelle: tactics/ragnarok" ,the Disgaea predecessor, cause you're clearly not biased by recency bias and you enjoy good stories and characters.
La Pucelle was great. Didn't beat it but the characters were charming.
My Tier list for Disgaea would look exactly the Same, Disgaea 1 and Disgaea D2 For the Win !
Also I would put Phantom Brave up there
I'm still playing disgaea 2. Played Disgaea 1, liked it a lot. I'm now the post game for Disgaea 2. I'm liking it.
Disgaea 2 is my favorite dood
I've just started playing Disgaea 5, so I can't discuss about it, but I've played every other Disgaea game so I wanted to share my thoughts on every one I played ( I'm not counting the " spin-off " ones, but know that I appreciated them all ):
- Disgaea 1 = My first (And favorite) Disgaea game.
It was basically quite the opposite of Disgaea 2, in which the
prevailing part was "the funny scenes", but the story didn't really stand out, so it hasn't really given me anything worth remembering (Storywise).
All in all, my personal tier list would be:
S) Disgaea 1
A+) Disgaea 4
A) Disgaea D2
D+) Disgaea 3
D) Disgaea 2
Where would Disgaea 5 land now? ;)
Now personally my favorite is 4. Valvatorez is my favorite main hero. This former badass Tyrant Vampire. Changed into a goofy lovable Vampire who loves Sardines. Disgaea 2 in my opinion has the best story.
Disgaea 1, 4, and 5 are the only games on the Nintendo Swtich right now. I'm thinking about starting with 5 first.
The first one not only has the best cast but also the most memorable first boss and what a name he has
How did you get stuck in the item world in D1? Once you make a team of throwers and have a character with a knockback or swap spaces skill the item world is a breeze. It's how I got the best gear and maxed them out while being super under leveled.
Maybe it was a older version problem. I played the DS version.
In the PS2 version there is the possibility of the floor spawning an exit panel that's too far away to throw to for anyone in the game, I think 7 tiles. Making some floors in the original release LITERALLY unclearable regardless of team comp.
are any of the re releases censored?
Should I buy D4 or D5? (I play on switch and I originally wanted D3 but it isn't available)
FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE WHO LOVES DISGAEA 3
i played a lot of disgaea 1 versions, played the 2 and finished the 5, still, the worst disgaea in terms of gameplay (too much grinding just for the main story) almost unplayable is disgaea 1, it would be F in my opinion. not enjoyable at all, however disgaea 5 and D2 are the best ones (in terms of gameplay too) even if the story is so plain in D5 i rather play it before suffering again in D1 just for the story
Yeah I felt D5 has a generic story, and just look at the MC in 5... done before.
Disgaea D2 also had a lawsuit over it because the translation added a bug that, if I recall correctly, broke a few ps3's when it froze on some fire animations. Perhaps that has something to do with its lack of a rerelease as well?
We need a Kurtis and Alex focused Disgaea.
For me
S: Disagea 1, Disgaea 2
A: Disgaea 5, Disgaea D2
B: Disagea 4
C: Disgaea 3, Disgaea 6
Disgaea 3 is so bad that even some Disgaea fans think Disgaea 3 is bad and that's why the game Disgaea 3 wasn't released on PC because it wasn't good enough that even Disagea 1, 2 & 4 were on PC.
love to hear your thoughts on 6 and 7 now that they are out.
Is it possible to change lead character in disgaea games? I just wanted to walk around as female characters but footages show only main protagonist

Tsunami Bomb was the reason I bought the original Disgaea over 15 years ago. I was 20.
Dang, Disgaea 1 is the only one I haven't played, but now I've gotta.
I've only played 2 but I knew the gameplay was pretty special.
If you run out of gencys is it REALLY the games fault?
You could diagonal throw in D1 if you know what you're doing
Fuck you.
Did you really just give 3 a higher rank than 2? Waaaaaaack.
D1 item world is the reason I stopped playing on the DS. Was a deal breaker. But did get me into the series, so I'm not that mad.
I can't speak for 4, D2 and 5 as I haven't played much of them, but as for the others I'd put 2 at the top, followed by 3, then 1
1 does have a nice story with lots of tension and mostly good characters, though it suffers from reusing areas a lot around the middle of the game.
PSA!:
The item world issue mentioned about Disgaea 1 Complete has been patched and fixed!
nisamerica.com/blog/disgaea-1-complete-patch-notes/
So what happens if you get the uncompletable item level? is it game over or can you just exit out to the regular game?
There's an emergency escape item, you should never go into item world without one. Not just for this reason, but also in case the enemies get too strong for you to continue.
@@ndril thanks that kinda makes sense, i'll try to remember it when I get around to playing it. Working on my backlog.
@@jamespilcher9234 Death resets you to your last save, and you can only save in the castle, in the newer versions it "autosaves" right before you enter so you can at any time revert back to right before you entered the item world. All the XP, items and progress you made is reset however so a door is a better option.
"you can lv up till 999" no its 9999 my good sir
and the news disgaea coming 2021 will have a lv cap of 99 999 999
It’s weird how everyone seems to either really like or really dislike Adell and Rozlin. Personally they are my favourite.
idk if you've done it but I'd love a video on all generic classses to ever appear in disgaea and ranking them
For me Disgaea 5 is the best one, I guess I just played it at the right time and left quite the impact. Probably after its 7 as its just an amazing experience (even thought I have only played it 30 hours so far). Next would be 1 for getting me into the series. 3+4 are next. I got a Vita just to play them and I fondly remember that period.
I'm playing 7 right now and enjoying it. I'm not sure why so many fans recommend against it and kept saying to get 5.
@cartoonvideos5 7 is quite a lot of fun even if some things are streamlined / missing. Personally, some of the new mechanics are quite fun. There are quite a lot of quality of life additions. 5 has been out for such a long time and naturally people feel attachment to it hehe.
@@zerohbeat I like 5 as well!
I never really cared for tactics rpgs. I always wanted to but whenever I pick one up, I get bored and or frustrated. I really want to play these for some reason. I’ll pick up the first one and see how it goes
Start with 5 or 7
i feel like its a bad example of a tactics rpg , its focused more on doing stupid damage.
idk. I would suggest fire emblem , blazing sword if you want to start there (the story didn't keep me) or awakening.
blazing sword , i had to look up what the stats meant , how damage was done (literally attack - defense) and double attack ( if your speed - their speed is 4 or greater) , and click , or bring cursor to enemy , would show their movement area , so i could plan around it ,
Im writing cause , i've usually seen shills go on about how great fe is , or tactics rpgs are
And i got Fire emblem 3 houses and it SUCKED for me , until i hit a place where my units were dying. (which is what the game NEEDS to do)
So if i could go from that to .... its ok... then you might also
I remember renting one of the earlier versions and got intimidated and confused by the item world stuff and it just seemed like a chaotic mess of nonsense so I didn't really play it.
DD2 is definitely the best one and top tier for me as well, and i hope NISA releases it on Steam
For me the ranking is:
S: DD2
A: D1, D5
B: D3, D4
C: D2
Disgaea 3 definitely had the best opening in the series. Also I did like Disgaea D2 but it I remember correctly at the time the game had a huge game breaking bug in it that may or may not actually effect the console.
Going to come back to this tier list after playing them all in order to see if I agree. See you in like 1000 hours+ dood Also I wonder where you'd put 6 and 7
Phantom Brave is forever #1 as far as i'm concerned, it has a beautiful heartfelt story. plus i like my plant pots
Not sure how D5 isn't the highest ranked other than not having a nostalgia factor. Literally fixed everything in the previous and built on it.
Disgaea 4 deserves a S ranking
"disgaea 3 I think not enough people appreciate"
Me knowing damn well I would have gotten disgaea 3 over 2 If it was on steam: :
Shame you are not showing the original disgaea 1 ;P never played it tho.
Only the recent remake :)
Disgaea 1 has the base panel and exit portal in item world only ever on the same island tho
1:00 you mean you can level them to level 9999? idk if they changed that in later games but thats how i remember it from the first game atleast
As the only Disgaea game I played, I had so much fun with Disgaea 1. It was too grindy, yes, but it's a lot of fun as well. Love the characters too.
Yeah I wanted to like 5 so much but.. just very generic.
I respect your opinion, but I find it kind of interesting that all people don't like the story of Disgaea5...
Because I really really enjoyed it... Is it just me? XD
@@yumestar19 Most of the characters are cliches, but I still like them
Disgaea 3 is my favorite because you can recruit Marjoly post game.
Okay I made it pretty far into each of these games. Most of them I’ve 100%ed but Disgaea 3 I didn’t quite beat the final chalenge and Disgaea 2 I didn’t quite collect all of the to get to prinny island.
So my rating would be:
A. Disgaea 2
B. Disgaea 1 and Disgaea 4
C. Disgaea D2 and Disgaea 5
D. Disgaea 3
That was just my personal experience.
Verdict: they are all good, which is a testament to the franchise but question is how good is Disgaea 6.
I kinda think Disgaea 2 should have at least been in B or A.
putting DD2 and D3 so high... kinglike behavior
Start with 1? M8 5 is the only game I would recommend for beginners, also 4/5 are best and no one can change my mind
I'm interested in picking it up, but 2 doesn't seem all *that* complex from the giant steam guide I read on it
4 became a game this dood suggests playing in the mind's eye.
((A really good homeroom screen))
Wait so artina is vulcanus?
No context just got here, but fingers crossed for D3
What no mention of Phantom Brave or Makai Kingdom? Or La Lucille tactics for that matter...
I mentioned two of those games
amazing video i love it
Is anyone still waiting on the tutorial on how to get the weapons.
