An easier way to grind for the hospital rewards (other than the required number of revivals for the healing items/emblems) is to just unequip/re-equip items that boost HP/SP and then paying to heal your characters at the hospital because when HP/SP are added with an item it doesn't give you a boost in your current HP/SP only your maximum.
@Z3R0 You can not screw this game and no she was not a liar! When I started the game for the first time I only focused on leveling and items and I was able to beat it.
@@souldark2882 i got to the last chapter without using hospital, shops, dark assembly or item world except for that instance where you must. There was a bit if luck involved but it's all very doable
Useful tips for first timers you should have mentioned *Statiscian innocents are the ones that increase the EXP you get, they are more likely to be in HAND items, you can pass a bill to make them purchaseable *Use item world only to get the innocents in a Floor1-10 rush and try to skip floors the most you can. Leveling up a weapon raise the stats but you will more likely find stronger ones later, so you don't need to aim for a Lvl100 early sword *Reincarnate ASAP, because most characters you create unlock a new version and only when that new version raises level you unlock the next one. So having your Tier1 thief at level 3500 won't unlock you Tier3 thief. You will have to deal with a low level character again but the stats will increase better than you had them *Focus on powering up just 3 characters (one of them a mage, pref a 3 element user), you don't need tp struggle having 14 lvl 50 characters for an even match on a map, when just 3 lvl 90 can swipe the same map without a sweat. Lategame maps give nice drops you can give to your lvl1 characters and have them level up easier
The best tip that you didn't mention is that you can capture enemies. I captured a lvl 300+ enemy when my highest lvl hero was lvl 70 and basically the game was pretty much gg from there.
One other tip I'd say is when making a healer, give them a bow until they get to weapon mastery 3. Both unlocking the archer class, and (hopefully) saving up enough mana to make a mage. Having the healer make the mage will then allow the healer to learn the mage's spells, allowing them to more easily take advantage of staff weapons, without falling behind in levels. (Unless the Switch version changed it, healers do NOT gain experience from healing.) Also mages are really good. Just... really good.
A great tip is to have Flonne have mage and healer pupils so she can learn their spells. I use Flonne for both Healing and Offense spells. She gets pretty powerful :3
JAM GameCast Thanks! And I was in the same boat! Once you get over the slight learning curve it’s so enjoyable. It was just the kind of game I was looking for right now.
This is definitely a great video and incredibly helpful for video game completionists especially since the disgaea series has an insane amount of weapon and item collecting.
Even the first game is completionist hell, as there are about 400 different items, most of which that have to be collected at all 3 rarity tiers just to fill the whole collection
Good guide it's good to know that statisticians max out at level 300 (as do managers, and brokers) well at least until they patch the game then it will go to 900 I believe. Just 2 more tips never go into the item world without a mr gency exit, and never buy a good for nothing character do a little grinding early to build mana (currency to buy characters, pass bills) to buy the next level at least. Most powerful classes imo are Mage (longest range, but very squishy), and Ninja (highest dodge add 3 shoes, and they get even better).
Just started playing Disgaea 1 a couple days ago and its kicking my ass! I was surprised at it to be honest. I do feel a bit of shame as to where my most difficult part so far was tho.
Heal spell or any buff spell, espoir, Braveheart, etc gains EXP. The EXP gained is roughly speaking, a percentile of the target(s) current level(s) and targetting multiple allies or even high level enemies can result in leveling up. Even in the very first Disgaea game, you can have a dedicated support class that does nothing but heal, and buff the party while easily keeping up in level. Going a step beyond would be to have two characters healing each other every turn on +100% EXP Panels. With 300 Statisticians on both characters, they could practically gain 1 level per turn with each other. This means you could technically get very high level characters from even just using a simple Heal spell, or Buff magic. Then have a level 1 character heal say a level 75, or level 300 character and the EXP will be massive. This beginner's list didn't talk about the Extra Gain system of Master & Apprentice, how the Master will gain additional stats based on how strong the apprentice gets as well as how the Master can learn the Apprentices (generic) spells. This is especially useful for Flonne giving her attack magic, or other support spells like Mega Heal, BraveHeart and Shield. I like to sometimes turn Etna into a Mage. Though she is B rank in Staff, Etna can be a pretty effective Mage and one of her Specials (Sexy Beam) uses the INT stat. Characters like Laharl, Hoggmeiser and others could learn utility spells like Espoir, and Buff spells like Braveheart to give them something to do on any given turn where the enemy is too far away or you need the Cleric to Heal HP this round and someone else to purify the poison in a characters body. So on as so forth.

I remember when I played this 15 years ago. One of my strategies to kill all my allies to get the prizes from the hospital was to throw a boss inside your panel. Even if all your allies are strong and the boss is weak, he will still reign victorious and your home panel, along with the allies inside, are gone 😂
@@retrosoul8770 I don't agree. I think it looks strange for a character that I know to be a Manticore and who is even named Manty to be changed to a bone dragon. There were also cool monster designs that'll never see an HD touch because they went lazy with it and just replaced them with stand ins. Many of which are actually cooler looking or more original than what they were replaced with. Plus putting the work in to make the HD sprites would have given them more variety to use going forward. It's absurd that NIS' efforts here are no better than what a modder already did with the MC-Port of the game. Even the Main cast isn't done any favors by this method because the sprites represent their current design but all their cut-in art represents an older unused design. The sprites and the cut-scene characters don't match up with these younger versions of the characters. It gives it all a disjointed and cheap feeling. Not a good look for an anniversary celebration game. It makes it look more like a cash-grab than a genuine effort.

Throwing a super tough enemy into your base panel and destroying it and your entire team doesn't either. Just make sure the allies you have on the map already can kill it. This is a great way to get the revives count up at the hospital.
Why is this game so expensive on the Switch, and why is 1 more expensive than 5?! Disgaea 5 is $40, but Disgaea 1 is $50 on the Switch!! On Steam, it's only $15 and often goes on sale for $6!
JRPG Central Thanks! I saw the physical copy is on sale. I wish they would put the digital version on sale since I prefer not having to swap out cartridges. starting the game again probably to much work i guess? im stuck in chapter 2 anyways right now...
I'm in Chapter 6 i think and i've just found out about this "behind a throne" thing. Does this mean i loose all conversations i could've had in previous chapters and this "powerful item"?
Im not sure just make sure you read them all
Can these tips also applied to D4? Always wanted to try a D game , and finally got to download it on vita.insteae of D3. because I don't want to be battle in school
2:08 can i get "free item" in chapter 1?
Knowing what's coming in season 2, I wish back in the day Ellie would have been sacrificed for a cure. Would have saved a lot of people some heartache.
Playing this for the first time. I accidentally targeted an ally and killed them. So I am screwed out of the ending for that one mistake?
Does most of this apply to the second game
Very helpful thanks bro
I remember when I played this 15 years ago. One of my strategies to kill all my allies to get the prizes from the hospital was to throw a boss inside your panel. Even if all your allies are strong and the boss is weak, he will still reign victorious and your home panel, along with the allies inside, are gone 😂
I tried capturing Baal like this. Stripped him of all equipment and left all my strong units on the panel.
i saved the game after a battle where I accidentally defeated an ally. i only found out about the good ending thing just now. am i cooked?
If i'm completely into the series? Na, i Just have ALL the disgaea games. Yes, ALL of them for all the platforms lol.
I can't find location of the cheat shop in D1 complete where is it?
I know I'm late but thanks bruv. This will help out a lot whe I buy it.
Fuck me, been playing for 80 hours, killed 3 allies at the beginning, never did anything expect getting specialists...
Well im on chapter 2 and definitely didn't know about the throne
Question? If an ally dies due to a geopanel chain explosion, does that count as attacking an ally?
No it does not.👍
@@JRPGCentral Whew, what a relief! Thanks!
I'm fairly disappointed that they didn't re-render all the monsters and allies and just went the lazy route.
It already looks good, not necessary
Does this game make it so we can throw in any directions other than straight?
No you can’t throw diagonally. At least not without a glitch.
You've always been able to throw diagonally, but if you mean like the later games, then no. No precise diagonal throwing.
nina hightower Nope You cant throw Diagonally since that mechanic wasnt on the OG game
you can if you press quickly from one direction to another and quickly press the button to throw xd
is not precise but works since i do that sometimes on disgaea 1 pc version
Does throwing your Prinny's count as killing them
Nope! Throw away!
Enta Mode or Story first? Is that even a thing?
Are you asking if you can go straight into Etna Mode?
TNTtheLEGEND You can eneter Etna Mode first but Its gonna be hard playing Etna Mode with a low leveled etna since you will lack Early Game Firepower (Damage)
@@Banonymous- if you start the game on etna mode you get a few perks when you finish it and doing normal mode
wait, how are your characters so refined? like, they're not pixalated... i have this game on pc and all the characters are pixaled af.. but in your game.. they are so clear.. how is that possible?
This uses footage of Disgaea 1 Complete on PS4. They redrew some of the assets for that release.
@@JRPGCentral I researched it myself.. I downloaded a switch emulator and playing disgaea on that.. it has the same graphic as that of ps4
Is this game available on android?
THANK YOU!!!
Does counterattack counts as killing Allies?
Yes.
does trowing a priny count as killing your allies??
Gabriel Amaral oh good question!
No only directly attack or counterattacking an ally to death counts as an ally kill.
ok thanks
does throwing prinnies count as killing allies?
It does not!
did you use a mod? Your disgaea 1 has very pretty graphics! it's Disgaea 2 skins, aren't they?
I was playing Disgaea 1 Complete!
@@JRPGCentral Ok...... My Disgaea PC, isn't Disgaea Complete....... what a shit >
i guess throwing prinnies locks you out of the good ending? welp time to restart
oh nvm it doesnt count haha welp bye bye prinnies
about killing allies what if you accidentally destroy the geo and it kills my ally, does that count as killing my own ally
Allies killed in a geo panel chain will NOT count as an ally kill.👍
Throwing a super tough enemy into your base panel and destroying it and your entire team doesn't either. Just make sure the allies you have on the map already can kill it. This is a great way to get the revives count up at the hospital.
Throwing a Prinny also is not an Ally kill so make use of their purpose as your living grenades.
Tower kills also dont count toward an ally kill so dont worry if someone dies like that either
@@WinterFox1000 there are no tower attacks in this game
What version of disgaea is this
Disgaea 1 Complete on the PS4.
@John Do it's technically Afternoon of Darkness. But in-game Etna calls it Hour of Darkness ;)
still need to beat 4 and d2
Why is this game so expensive on the Switch, and why is 1 more expensive than 5?! Disgaea 5 is $40, but Disgaea 1 is $50 on the Switch!! On Steam, it's only $15 and often goes on sale for $6!
I will say, it is on sale for $30 as of the time of this comment. But yeah, it was too expensive at launch for sure.
JRPG Central Thanks! I saw the physical copy is on sale. I wish they would put the digital version on sale since I prefer not having to swap out cartridges. In the meantime, I picked up Disgaea 1 and 2 on Steam since they are on sale for much lower. I’ll eventually pick up the switch versions of 1 and 5 when they go on sale digitally.
I play it for free in pcsx2
This is old as the hills but and I likely wont get an awnser....but why does you disgaea 1 look better than disgaea 5 and how can I achieve that level of sexyness.
Throw prinny do count kill allies
VERGIL! TELL ME HOW TO OBTAIN MORE POWER!
Here's another tip
Turn off autosave
But why?
@@switch3 after I beat the game I tried out etna mode and it autosaved over my file.....60 hours down the drain
I am in chapter 3 and I already kill like 4 persons of my team fuck
It is a TRPG...
☺💕
It is simply unacceptable that the game developer does not provide these tricks or extensive manuals.
I bought this game because it looked cool, but I quickly remembered that I can't stand RPG combat. Idk what's wrong with me.
These are awful lol
here's a tip: don't get disgaea 1 complete
