I went through spinal fusion l5 s1(open screws titanium rods used in the surgery ) in the year 2022 oct 13 ,i started doing exercises from 5th month onwards pushups, squats, walking plank other exercises also to strengthen my spine . From 6th month onwards i started riding bike also .now one year completed 30 push ups,30 squats 5 min plank ,kegel exercises helps me so much in strengthening my spine .even carrying 30 kg weights also , comfortably doing agricultural activities also for iam very much interested in coconut trees cultivation.above all iam able to do my job as fireman in fire department.but some times i feel there is little pain or feeling strain ,some weakness there at surgery spot .may be it is common for every one who go through spinal fusion .i never thought that i would be this much successful.only exercises and diet especially milk, eggs, mutton dry fruits, fruits helped me a lot for recovering quickly.thanks to almighty god jesus who helped me recovered well and thanks to my surgeon LV RAMBABU(angel sent from above)from senteny hospital ,vijayawada, Andra Pradesh, India.

I just had mine done, my L5 collapsed on my S1 with no disc left. They leave the screws and rods in there for life. It was immediate relief of nerve pain and instability. It’s a serious surgery I’m 27 y/o and it was about 3-5 days of a lot of pain from surgery. I’m 2 weeks into recovery and have little to no pain anymore. If you do have this done make sure you have help you will need it for the first week or so. I hope you the best.

I just had my Tlif surgery July 13th. The procedure went well. After the surgery, my nerves felt like I was on fire. Nobody can touch my lower back, butt cheeks, and thighs. Omg the pain was really intense and unbearable. It hurt to lay in the bed and to have covers touch me. The only relief I had was to walk slowly in my Birthday suit lol. I am currently in pain management. It is really helping. My nerves are really mad and upset with me. I go to pt twice a week and will be getting in the pool as well

The possible side-effects that you indicate, does that happen instantly after the surgery or it may occur even after longer period ? My wife's got lumbar fusion Almost 4 weeks ago and she still complains of pain sometimes unbearable, could it be the wound pain amd will go away in time?

I highly suggest taking on easier workouts and activities afterward. I was a paratrooper in the US Army, and I fractured my lower back in 1997. I had no other option other than spinal fusion. I thought I can do all the things I was able to do a year after my surgery. Fast forward to 2023, I am in so much pain 24x7 below and above my spinal fusion. Avoid spinal fusion unless is necessary and tailor your exercises accordingly to avoid the long-term impact. Think 10 to 30 years from now.

@@jackdaniel-id2uw hi , thanks for sharing your experience, im so sorry that you are in such pain…
Can i ask if whether the pain you are experiencing now was due to the rigorous activities just after the first year?
In your personal opinion, do you think taking it slow after recovery is better for spinal fusion patients?
