Dude you saved me a bunch of money. My warranty expired 3 months ago and they quoted me like 300 bucks to fix my i7 alpha. Needless to say, you deserve a subscribe and share!
I'd like to THANK YOU for fixing my PC. You save me over $200 and provided tech support Dell couldn't. I greatly appreciate you taking the time to post this fix. Dave
Thanks so much for this video. I have had my system for about 2 years and just experienced the issue for the first time today. My system rebooted overnight and all I had was the logo on the screen. F2 and F12 didn't work, nothing worked. I found your video and followed your instructions and it fixed my issue. So pleased that you posted this. Many Thanks!!!!!!!!!!
My god this video saved my life, I wouldn't be able to work without my computer and this fix has seemingly solved the issue, I wouldn't have even known where to begin fixing it in the first place. Thank you so much for this useful guide I'd be stuck without it. Praying it doesn't happen again..Thank you!
2:30 what happens if I do all of this and then connect it to power and my alpha turns on by itself without hitting the power button? The light turns on and goes yellow again.
My experience late 2020: This worked, but I needed to also get a new CMOS battery installed. Just unplugging the CMOS battery and letting it sit did nothing, and I routinely hit the "yellow lights of death" after trying. Even if it did boot, before the new CMOS battery I would just get stuck on the logo screen like in this video. I fixed it with installing a new CMOS battery (other videos can show you how), then following this video to reset the BIOS. One thing I'll note that he didn't go over is how to press the power button after you swap the jumper. I hit it once, waited ten seconds, then hit it once again, then unplugged the machine after about another 5 seconds. That worked. Hope that helps others who are having a hard time with their machine, and thanks Arthur!
Fixed it, thank you. One thing to mention, it seemed the side of that jumper matters, I put it to the RTCRS facing opposite direction that that caused the yellow light flashing when I put it back. So second time I changed the sides, that it worked!
This saved my bacon. I was trying to install onto a new ssd from a flash drive and when it wasn't recognized, I selected "legacy bios" from the boot menu and rebooted... only to be greeted with the Static Alien Head of Doom. I thought I had bricked it. I *did* have to go back into the bios and change the boot setting back to UFI to get my usual Win10 boot drive to be re-recognized, but everything is back to normal so far. Thanks a bunch, mate.
i do repair my alpha through this guide. i live in korea, so dell korea is reject to repair my alpha. i find infomation and fanally i find this. THANK YOU Very much. you are my savior.
Thank you!!!! Your solution worked for me! I think if it happens again I will role back the bios as someone else suggested in the comments. My unit is two weeks out of warranty so this really saved me. Thank you again.
Hey a got the same problem with my Steam machine, but on the screen say fatal error and louding 1,2,3, and nothing happen ,do you think i need do the same proccess?
Thanks! That was driving me crazy. I even removed the CR2032 battery to clear the CMOS but all I ended up with were the 5 flashing lights of death. So I had to deal with this for like an hour, and then the initial problem was still here. Then I found your video and it was fixed in 5 minutes 🤦♂
Thanks! Totally saved my Alpha from the trash bin. If your Alienware Alpha is getting stuck at the BIOS, and won't let you into the BIOS setup utility, try this before you give up on it. I'm going to try updating the BIOS after this, to see if that helps to keep things more stable.
Really helped out! I was going to try this method (other BIOS resets hadn't worked) but the official manual was using some alternate motherboard layout? Your video used the right one and also confirmed that it would fix the problem I was having. Thanks
Thanks fixed my start up problem, as you said it couldnt enter bios or anything, was stuck on alienware boot logo .. Seemed to happen as soon as i added asus rog driver for mobkul mouse i using but then maybe coincidence, anyway i rolled back bios from a4 to a3 soon as your fix worked and no problem since :) running windows 10 is fine with a3 bios if anyone else has same problem :) thanks again :)
I'm sure that's just a coincidence, but it's funny you should say that about the mouse. I had just done a firmware upgrade to my mouse. After I rebooted this same error happened.
Thank you so much! My Alpha R1 just got into that boot freeze and you saved me! :) I'm using Linux on that machine with no problem whatsoever, but I also have an original Win 8 installed in case I want to play something Linux/Proton would not support. Today I've booted Win 8 first time in like 6 months, it updated itself and I've got that ALIENWARE logo freeze after reboot. Might be firmware update or something... Anyways, thanks again for the fix instructions!
Thank you, thank you again. You saved my bacon for a second time since I forgot the exact steps from last time. :) In my case I've had to reset the BIOS after something has caused the power to be pulled from the machine while things are running. Thankfully it hasn't happened randomly as of yet. The first time I was convinced it was dead!
I have an older alienware computer, but what fixed my similar issue was I turned the computer off, unplugged the 2 external drives i had connected and started it up again and that seems to have worked. Not sure if it's a fix or a fluke and it just happened to turn on.
What happens if you keep having to move the jumper to startup the computer? Should I just send it in to dell after backing everything up to a hard drive ??
Wow, thanks. I got bios update notice (from A05 to A06) in Windows 10, I accepted it to install and it locked up, turned down my speakers to not hear the high pitched wine. Came back and still stuck so I powered off and was stuck at the screen thinking it screwed up the flash. This worked luckily.
Hey. Any advice for the almost same thing? Sometimes when i turn on the computer ( not always ) i only have a logo Alienware, it freezes and i must press ctrl + alt + del ( sometimes once, sometimes more ) and then its ok. Where can be a problem? How can i fix it? I have Alienware X51 R2. It started when my graphics were in trouble ( overheat inside a small case ) and I had to replace her ( from GTX 960 to 1050Ti ). But I'm not sure if that's the case...This PC is about 5 years old..
So I've done what you've said but then it brings me to a windows screen.that says window has not solved your problem any idea of what I should do I was thinking of doing a power drain but I was unsure and I figured you know about it the most. Any idea of what I should do also when I turn on my alpha the power button has the blue display but it either shows nothing/ connection lost on my monitor or just shows the Alienware alpha screen before crashing. Hopefully you can help.
Still having the same issue after doing this. I don't think I did anything wrong but it's possible. Your instructions didn't really say what to do after pressing the power button so could u give me a bit more info on that part?
Even if I use this method, the yellow light blinks every day I boot. Is this what I should do every time I boot? It might be a little weird because you're using a translator
Help, I have an alienware alpha but when I power on, the logo stay blinking in Orange light (the normal is green) and dont show image/ dont start the fans
I have a feeling there is something botched with the latest BIOS, disconnecting the cmos battery for 5mins clears out the errors I (and many others) had with it not even attempting to boot up, just goes to a blinking yellow light.
Oh my God Thank you I wish I watched this video before I ordered a new bios battery Then a new computer!!! It was driving me nuts. My Alienware is now up and running again. A new replacement is on the way.
I know this is kinda old but PLEASE RESPOND. I do everything in this video, except when I hit f1 it just starts rebooting over and over again and again and again... you get the point. When the jumper is in the 2nd spot and I turn the power on, do I also turn the power off? Or do I just unplug it.
Remember to use a wired keyboard. Wireless will not register. And also plug in back seems to work best. Even though the keyboard may appear to be responding if it doesn't boot into Windows, it didn't actually correctly register the key stroke.
Um did steps as followed but when i plugged it all in i got a flashing green light? I turned the pc off before putting the blue jumper back to clear password and then plugged it back in and thats when i got the green light that began flashing is there a fix for this or am i fucked?
Hi , anyone have idea when this and changing bios battery doesn't work still yellow , sometimes I had screen sometimes not but I used windows 7 not steam os , it worked always by unplugging power and plugging in few times now it is only yellow
Hey, I did what you did, I thought it was the same problem, but I guess not. My PC passes the logo screen but after that the loading scroller-thingy just stays there forever pretty much
Shazang Productions I've been having the same problem for months. Doing a power drain worked in the beginning, but now that doesn't work anymore. This is so frustrating.
Didn’t work for my issue. Still getting nothing to mouse or monitor. I’m getting 2 flashes, then 1 flash. I’ve done everything I seen on the forums. Reset ram. New cmos battery. Holding power button. And now this. Nothing has fixed my issue. Is my motherboard just toast? All started happening after I upgraded ram. Put the original ram back in and still nothing. Any help would be awesome, been about 4 days of messing with this thing. Mine is the alpha i3
2021 and your still hero. Thanks my dude!

Update: This has saved me twice now haha
I was just about to send it back before I watched this video. You're a lifesaver. Thank you.
2:30 what happens if I do all of this and then connect it to power and my alpha turns on by itself without hitting the power button?
The light turns on and goes yellow again.
I’m having the same issue. Did you find a fix?
@@prxmxl change your cmos battery
Life saver still in 2018. Had this since 2016 and never came across this issue until now. Thank you!
You just saved me at least $100-$150 by not having to call someone out! Not all hero's wear capes but thanks!!!

Nice! Glad to help!
I saw this video after ordering the new replacement computer.

Still saving alphas in 2019 man. I had no idea what was going on with this thing
Thanks mate, you are an absolute hero and none of the rambling crap everyone else has!
Thank you!!!! Your solution worked for me! I think if it happens again I will role back the bios as someone else suggested in the comments. My unit is two weeks out of warranty so this really saved me. Thank you again.
first time with this issue. Your fix worked perfectly.
Hey a got the same problem with my Steam machine, but on the screen say fatal error and louding 1,2,3, and nothing happen ,do you think i need do the same proccess?

Worked like a charm took less than 10 minutes 😎👍

You saved my life man, seriously was about to send in my alpha and this video did the magic... thanks!!
You're the best! Thanks for saving me and my PC.
Thank you so much - you've been a life saver (worked as shown)
Got an alpha late 2014 and this just happened to me today, followed the method and it worked so thanks for that . :)
I have an i7 with SteamOS. I tried this fix twice and it didn't work. Any suggestions?
you will probably need to disconnect the cmos battery there are videos for how to do it
Kyle H what I did is turn it off for a min and it does the same thing
Thanks for the video. I got the yellow lights of death, and replacing the CMOS battery alone didn't fix it. I followed your video and it worked.
Awesome video, saved me a whole world of grief.
Thank you, thank you again. You saved my bacon for a second time since I forgot the exact steps from last time. :) In my case I've had to reset the BIOS after something has caused the power to be pulled from the machine while things are running. Thank you! I love this little machine but have only had it a few days before it got stuck in just this way. I'm not sure whether to return it or not.
Thank you for the video, you've just saved me a restless night trying to fix my old R1
This actually worked although I can't get the HDMI to connect with them monitor regardless it's works thank you so much
Does this also work on the alienware area 51m r2 i have a similar issue wont go pass the logo
My Area 51m has the same problem. It gets stuck on the alienware logo... Is there any solution you have specific to the Area 51m? Thanks
You are the man! Worked perfectly! Thanks
Thank you tons Mr. Dude. I have Fedora installed on my computer and this still worked perfectly!
Does this help get past an automatic repair that never helps and keeps me in booting limbo?
Where do you find the screws?
What happens if you keep having to move the jumper to startup the computer? Should I just send it in to dell after backing everything up to a hard drive ??

But I'm not sure if that's the case...This PC is about 5 years old..
I have the same problem for my alienware area51m laptop. Any solution for that?
Will this work on Alpha R2 ? Because the mobo is bit different .
You are a life saver!! I was getting so upset cause of that same problem. thank you very much.

Worked! Thank you! May 2019!
How do I fix the yellow light of death in the Alienware Alpha ASM-100 Steam Machine?
Help, I have an alienware alpha but when I power on, the logo stay blinking in Orange light (the normal is green) and dont show image/ dont start the fans
I have a feeling there is something botched with the latest BIOS, disconnecting the cmos battery for 5mins clears out the errors I (and many others) had with it not even attempting to boot up, just goes to a blinking yellow light.
+Jake “Zebular” F I agree with you, seems odd that it just started acting up for me recently.
It’s 2020 and it happend to me today. Thanks so so much for the simple tutorial and it worked fine!! You save the day!!! OMg..
Any idea how to do this on an r7 Aurora Alienware?
My alpha go straight to console mode, how do I fix that because I cant do nothing as IT go directly it also freeze 😭😭😭😭i cant believe it
Thanks so much Arthur, incredibly helpful!
Was a big help thanks man
Yeah this doesn’t work for me. After I hit f1 it just goes back to the alien ware screen and stays there
Same
After everything I tried, I just installed windows 10 and it worked
Same here it goes back to the load screen with the loading circle. Anyone have any luck since this?
Does not work for me. did it twice. Existence is pain
I waited 50 mins shut off my computer and turned it on again, and it worked
Dude, thank you! I was *this* close to throwing mine in the trash. This worked first try.
Done this and im back up and running thanks.
Gracias, no sabía que hacer y encontré este video que me ayudó, muchas gracias ☺️
Wow you are awesome. I'm back up and running on my i3 alpha. Thank you 😍
Oh my God
Thank you
I wish I watched this video before I ordered a new bios battery
Then a new computer!!!
It was driving me nuts.
My Alienware is now up and running again.
A new replacement is on the way.
thanks, very useful. works like a charm
My jumper doesn't quite look the same as yours though. I'm not sure why that is.
Thank you so much! You've become my latest hero
i got all the way to the hit F1, F2 stuff hit F1 and it turned my screen blank . Any suggestions???
Thank you bro. I fix it with this tip
Are you using a wired keyboard?
Thank you so much!! This video helped a lot!!
Thanks dude I did do this and it saved my alienware alpha 😭✌
Excelente!!! Perfect!! Muchas gracias! Thanks!!
hi, thanks for the video but mine still have problem keep doing stuck on logo, do u have any other solution. i change mine to win 7, by the way.
You are better off to now keep shutting it down. Just let it go into sleep mode. That is what I do. Shutting it down invites the problem.
I try this and now I have the yellow blinking light now any suggestions
I know this is kinda old but PLEASE RESPOND. I do everything in this video, except when I hit f1 it just starts rebooting over and over again and again and again... you get the point. When the jumper is in the 2nd spot and I turn the power on, do I also turn the power off? Or do I just unplug it.
UPDATE: Everytime I reset the bios and then hit f1 to continue, it just goes back into the reboot loop. PLEASE HELP :(
Same here.
Remember to use a wired keyboard. Wireless will not register. And also plug in back seems to work best. Even though the keyboard may appear to be responding if it doesn't boot into Windows, it didn't actually correctly register the key stroke.
OMG THANK YOU SIR!!! it worked!!
I did not have the exact same problem but it did fix my problem where am I computer was not turning on some reason correctly thank you
i got the same problem on my Alienware X51 R2.. where is RTCRST port? Already found the jumper but cant find the RTCRST port.. pls help me
is yours saying no hard disk detected please reseat. strike f1 to retry...
etc etc
It didn't work for me. I have the newest i7 edition. It came with steamos instead of Windows so maybe that's why it didn't work?
This video save me, and my job, thx!
Anyone go through the step and it just goes back to the boot screen withe the loading circle?
hey my pc has a problem where i'm stuck on the console boot up and it doesn't let me pick a wifi or check for updates, anyone know a fix?
skip to 2:00 put jumper in rtcs slot
This helps me with YLOD as well, but that could be a coincidence. Worth a try though
It worked for me too! :D
Um did steps as followed but when i plugged it all in i got a flashing green light? I turned the pc off before putting the blue jumper back to clear password and then plugged it back in and thats when i got the green light that began flashing is there a fix for this or am i fucked?

Shazang Productions I've been having the same problem for months. Doing a power drain worked in the beginning, but now that doesn't work anymore. This is so frustrating.
Was this the Alienware Alpha r2 i7
This! saved my ass in 2022 (could not boot after last windows 10 update)
Thank you so much brother
Still works in 2023!
Hi I remember one time to have the same problem and it solved it :) But now after one month abroad tried it again and still blinking lights :(
What about the Alpha R2?
Would this also work on a Alienware x51?
I'm not sure. Ive never owned the x51.
Didn’t work for my issue. Still getting nothing to mouse or monitor. I’m getting 2 flashes, then 1 flash. I’ve done everything I seen on the forums. Reset ram. New cmos battery. Holding power button.
