Really enjoyed your video. I actually just purchased a 1989 mobile home along with an acre of property. Looks great. Why would the manufacturer put the hot water heater behind the shower? How in the world would you get to it if it stopped working or started leaking?
I am tackling something similar. Since you sped it up, I did not see what did you do with that big black pipe that was sticking out of the floor. I have one like that and I know some how I am going to have to put it under the floor in order to convert to just a shower.

This is an amazing transformation. I’m wondering what was the original size of the tub? I recently bought a place on the lake and it’s a mobile home single wide, and looking to the do the same for mine - my tub is small 54” long x 27” wide .
A nice set up for such a small bathroom. Ours is small in my apartment. If it was not for my wife I'd yank out the tub and do the same thing. Great work.
This is amazing! Just got our mobile home and this is the exact same thing I want done on our bathroom. Quick question what is the name of that drywall, I never seen drywall that thin. Is it something else?
Hi there, yes you can buy 1/4” drywall however you will have to use a product like Red Guard or Aqua Defence to water proof it prior to tiling. You might also want to look at Kerdi board which comes in multiple thicknesses as well, with Kerdi board you wouldn’t need to apply a waterproof membrane. Thanks for watching and your kind words. Best of luck with your project
I found this helpful but I’m still so lost where to start once I rip everything out and also scared. The shower faucet and washer share a wall so I’m nervous about plumbing trying to diy it.
Do you think the weight of the tile is close to equivalent of what it was with a bathtub full of water? I know you have to keep weight in mind when remodeling a mobile home and am just curious. Would it be too much weight if you installed a tub with the tile? (Tub of water and tile combined)
I live in a mobile home and have done some remodel. I think so long as the home is not being moved, you're good. If you were planning on moving it, weight may become an issue.
Wow nice job sir ! I would like to know how much does a job like that cost just the bathroom remodel if you don’t mind sir no materials just the labor tub to walk in shower
Will putting tile inside a trailer home add weight to the structure and can possibly cause damage in the long run? I've been dying to do this to my master bedroom, but my husband says it's too much weight.
This is a remarkable transformation 👏. I've been ask to do a similar project and am trying to decide if I am capable of pulling it off. You make it look very easy but I know it's not an easy task. May I ask about the drywall material? I was under the impression that concrete board was required for a shower area. Is that not necessary? And did you have to reinforce the floor underneath the pan? Great video. Thank you for your time!!!
Thank you, your right it’s not as easy as the video makes it look. that being said, don’t be afraid of taking on a project like this, there’s information everywhere to help you get it done. As for the wall board, yes concrete board is better, we chose drywall because of the thickness we needed (1/4”). We also applied 2 coats of waterproofing membrane before tiling. Another option would have been Kerdi board which comes in different thicknesses and is 100% waterproof, also light weight. No we did not have to add supports under the base. Thanks for the visit.

Hi and thanks for kind words. The covers are called Aria vents you can find them on Amazon. They are a much nicer modern look and they divert the air much better than conventional vents.
I'm going to be remodeling an 87 MH. I didn't think tiling wad an option due to weight concerns. I was unaware u could treat drywall with a product and tile directly to it. I recently saw a home renovation that used a pink colored foam board, for tile backer. How old are these products? Do they hold up? What happens if you need to later move the trailer?
First off thanks for watching. I believe the foam wall board product your talking about is likely kerdi board made by Schluter, It comes in different thicknesses and is much lighter than drywall however I don’t believe the added weight from drywall and tile in the bathroom alone is a concern. The product I used to waterproof the drywall is called red guard or aqua guard, the product has been around for quite a while now and I use it often as a second layer of protection over gypsum board. If you choose to go with the foam kerdi board you wouldn’t need to use a waterproofing product like Red guard. Hope that helps Thanks for the visit
I am about to do a tub to shower conversion. I have a 2014 manufactured home. Will i have any of the same issues as with a mobile home? I am also not on a cement pad though i am on what they consider a foundation.
I would say no, you probably won’t have the same issues. Manufactured homes are built these days taking into account standard building practices. A 2014 manufactured home is not very old (under 10 yrs) so for the most part all building specs should be up to code for your area. Hope that helps.
I would try looking on Houzz.com or Angie’s list and get a few different estimates. I always tell people to use their gut instincts when you meet with contractors and ask for references and follow up with those references.
Correct, the floor beam structure is different in mobile home than a frame house, usually less direct support over the exterior wall and more support about a foot in with the iron trusses
There is an access from the outside of the mobile home, however the new tank is larger than the previous one so we are scheduled to go back this year to enlarge that opening. Cheers!!!
That was a beautiful end result. But, I have a question, was that regular sheet rock you put up? I thought you had to use cement board or something like that. Thanks.
Normally I would have used aqua board however I had to use 1/4” drywall to match up to the 1/4” panel board that is found in older mobile homes. Also 5/8” drywall was used on the hot water tank wall. Aqua board only comes in 1/2” thickness. To overcome these obstacles, you can see in the video we used a rubberized waterproofing membrane applied to the drywall prior to installing tile.
Loved the Video! I want to exchange a Garden Tub for the Shower Set-up. I have an 1984 Home and it's set on unlevel ground. The bathroom is a good 5-6 Feet off the ground. So my concern would be the weight load with a shower enclosure (will probably go Fiberglass surround). Question #1; Did you use the regular 1/4" D-Wall and coat it with the Aqua Defense in lieu of regular hardy-backer? Question #2; did you add any reinforcement or replacement of subfloor with both the bathroom & living areas for the plank flooring?
How much would this typically cost to do the shower?? We want to purchase a mobile home but the shower and kitchen counters, floors need to be re-done….
Aqua board only comes in 1/2”. We used 1/4” drywall to match up to the thickness of the panel board found in most older mobile homes. To achieve a waterproof membrane prior to tiling we applied red guard waterproofing which is 100% better moisture protection then aqua board.
