If you’re new to my channel, my name is Alex Kouras. I started cutting my own hair when I was 13, back in 2008. This was during the Windows 99 era-dial-up internet, when TH-cam was a dating site, and the global economy got slapped. Hard. Because of it, my mom lost her job for nearly three years, and during that time, my dad had to support her, me, and my two brothers all on his own.
I started cutting my hair as a way to help my family save money because I was tired of hearing my parents argue about finances and wanted to do something to make things easier for them. After getting a few bad haircuts at Supercuts, I knew this was the best way I could help.
With that being said, this channel does not do my past any justice. I wish I could have recorded my first handful of self-haircuts so you could see just how garbage they were. I got made fun of a lot because of it in middle school-even by some of the moms from the kids on my soccer team! Rightfully so... They were pretty bad.
Now, over 15 years later, I share content that teaches millions of people every month in more than 165 countries how to save time and money by mastering self-haircuts from the comfort of your own home. It’s not a hard skill to learn, but like anything in life, if you make it a priority and stay committed, you can succeed without letting the tough times make you quit.
I had every reason to quit when I got started. No money. No mentor. No TH-cam. No clippers, only a $20 Remington beard trimmer. I was literally just a little kid who cared way more about my family's well-being than any bit of harsh criticism I could get as a result. Times have changed since 2008 and you now have an opportunity of a lifetime with my channel.

@@christianruano2761 the tricky part at first is cutting the back as everythings in reverse, I used two mirrors to start with and getting used to doing everything backwards. Honestly its like anything, the more you keep trying itll become 2nd nature. Ive actually got used to where the fade starts, ends etc I can cut it all now without a 2nd mirror but as I say ive been at it for a very long time. Its dead handy though as you can cut your hair anywhere you like 😁 on holiday, at 1am, lockdown etc.

I just did my second haircut with my new clippers. Had never cut my own hair until now. Your video gave me a lot of confidence that I could do it my self! The first hair cut I said to my self, this is a better haircut than I get at a salon. The second time, I realized that it's best to go slow, go steady, stay calm. It's another great haircut. I'm not getting my hair cut done by anyone else again.

I cut my own hair my self too since my teenage year. This video is really good. If you have dry scalp tho, try to use baby oil and massage it into your scalp. 2×/week. After a month you can do it 2× monthly until you got no more dry scalp. Great job.
I started like this but ended with fully trimmed hair and my head looks like an egg
Patience is the key. I got my second self-cut yesterday. I do have to say that I have the same clipper though. After 2 and half hours it was done. Working the mirrors is the most difficult part. Good luck the next time. You can do it.

Hands down the BEST "how to" video for beginners. Only took me 5 hours (seriously, take your time), but I gotta say I'm pretty satisfied with my first go at it. Thank you many times over brother!! @@maneeoocho350 I tried fading my own hair because all barbers are closed right now for quarantine and I messed up my fade big time. It's higher on one side and lower on the other and I couldn't blend it well either so the guidelines are still noticeable. Also I ended up buzzing the top. But at least no one will see my quarantine fade by the time this is over😂
This is great advice. For beginners, a great hack to create an even line all around the head is to take an old baseball cap and cut off the bill. Place it on your head and cut all the hair below accordingly. Once you gain some experience and get comfortable cutting your own hair, i recommend starting with the back line first before doing the sides, making sure the centerline is even. It makes adjusting the sides much easier when you know the back is straight. I've been cutting my own hair for over 25 years, since i was 13. I must say, that to this day there's nothing that makes a man feel sexier than a fresh fade and a brand new wife beater. In combination, it's a sure shot way to feel like a million bucks!!

UPDATE - it actually went ok although I could not do the top bit like you did so I left it. It took ages to grab the hair between my fingers and then I could see what I was doing due to my hand being in the way 😂
All in all the haircut took me 3 hours but it looks good 👌

This is my 4th time cutting my own hair. The first time took me 2 hrs from start to finish but I keep getting better and faster with everytime I practice. Wish I would have started years ago, the time and money I would have saved. So far I've saved $180 with just 4 hair cuts.

I’ve been cutting my hair for 15 years. You need that 1.5 and .5 guard or use the corner of the clippers technique to get that fade as blurred as possible

I've been doing self haircut for years now. The reason was never saving money. There was always something wrong I didn't like done by someone. The length, shave. I've learned how to use mirrors to see the back of your head. After a time you learn how things work. I have undercut haircut style for some time now. Thanks for sharing the video!

Thank you! I have been cutting my own short hair style 3 times, each time successfully, having an "okay" haircut afterwards. I am still learning to get better though, I want a real good one. I normally start in the reverse direction, with the long guard first and going down the hairline to the short ones. With your parting techniques I am sure I will do it better next time. :-) Still practising, but each time it gets better!

Just tried my first home cut today, it went great! Thank you so much bro. It definitely took me a couple hours. But the fade is just as good as my former barber gave me. I used the same exact Wahl trimmer you used in the video. Some tips that really helped me: 1.) I used the pre-existing fade line I got from my barber at my final hair cut with him. 2.) I put on an athletic stretchy headband to have a set line.

Been cutting my own hair for about 20 yrs, some fails here and there but you get better with practice. And you save hundreds of $$ a yr.
Had my first haircut today💇🏻
It was not at all possible to be done without any help. And this would require like tons of practice.
it took me 3 hours to patiently do this.
But the final product was perfect and like pro hair cut. kudos to my Dad who helped me.
All the tips in this video helped. This is a perfect video 👍🏼
I saw this video 4 times before starting the hair cut.
If you are going to try this, make sure you have a lot of patience.
I had my experience of fading from shapping my beard and that helped.
Well, you need to have a back up plan if you are trying to do the same.
My BACKUP plan was a military cut. This same fade technique will help. But in the top you can trim with highest settings of your trimmer.
Also someone to help you if you are stuck.
Cutting your Hair in your back would require help.
And fear is good, but target it through patience.
Also, dont let your hair grow a lot. Try this while your hair is medium. It will give you more confidence.
Now I can do this again. 😅😃

1. Use no guard or #1 guard for the sides and back
2. Use a #2 & #3 guard for the corners that connect your back and sides to your top
3. Use maybe a #6 or #7 guard for your top

Actually, I have been cutting my own har for many years, and I highly recommend getting this skill. Its easier than you think, but you need good tools, respect for the process, focus and patience. and get your self pro tools, i.e. pro clipper.... like moser T-cut for example and pro level scissors, and watch some youtube tutorials on how to cut \ sculpture your hair, its actually very therapeutic and fun, better than yoga for shure.
