Very good tutorial!! Got myself a great cut and i got the length i wanted. Barbers always cut it too long or too short lol. Only downside is that its hard to make sure the scissors are positioned correctly in the mirror and ur arm will start hurting from keeping it in the air
Saving this video, I have neurodivergent kiddos and this seems straightforward. We can take our time and accommodate my son in the comfort of his home this way without having to drag him to an uncomfortable situation. Get some nice pictures/videos of the hairstyles and just go over them explaining the different properties of each hairstyle. This would be such a cool video :)
Been cutting my own hair for about 20 years now (since I was 12) only with a razor and never used this method to cut my top. By method I mean with scissors lol Just tried this and got it on the first try because of your great tutorial!! Thank you brotha 🙏🏽
just did this without any tutorial and its really simple. As long as you dont cut too short, you can keep cutting until you dont miss a long hair and it looks fine.
Saw this and went straight to work on myself. Didn't follow exactly cuz it was kinda hard and just started winging it at some point fixing it bit by bit until I got the exact cut i wanted. Ended up better than most cuts I've ever gotten at a barber.
This is what I was actually searching for thanks man. I had cut my hair twice but these were different and I was definitely not educated. once I cut my hair from the back, right down to the neck, with blunt scissors, and once I trimmed my hair's sides like mullet style. But now I wanna do it like this and cut the top of my hair. What an inspiring and educational video thanks again.
No wonder some barbers cut the top so short they lost their guideline, thanks tho Andy I know you save a lot of money doing this and you’re saving a lot of other people money by teaching us so thank you and the hair looks good bro, super stylish
Thank you for this. In addition to the general step-by-step, I learned so much about how to manage the comb and scissors - when cutting my own hair. Thank you!!!
Bro I just cut my own hair today for the first time at age 17. At first I thought that I was going to mess it up because I have black hair and couldn't see the line where I cut to use it for my next section. But it turned out so good. Thank You So Much Bro!
I have been watching many videos on TH-cam on how to cut men's hair but never worked for me, this is only video that made it easy! I managed to use this technique about couldn't believe how easy it is!
I've needed this. I haven't seen my hairdresser for 2 months. I faux hawked it 2 weeks ago so I could take pics real fast. My hair is too long to pompadour it now and I'm broke. Tomorrow it's me and the scissors ✂️ THANK YOU!!
Thanks man this really helped me, I recently got a great haircut by a stylist and came out great , it grew about couple inches fast and started to get super thick and wavy, this saved me to get back to where I was
Great learning right here! I would like to see a vid where you point out what not to do on hair cuts. Specially since we have a lot of tutorial content (not barbers also), it would be nice to see what you think on most tips or techniques
I was scared to cut the top of my hair until watching this video. I think I may even prefer to cut it myself at this point. Thank you so much for making this video, it means a lot!
Thanks for sharing your skills! I was always so worried about doing my own haircuts until I finally realized nobody really cares if your hair is perfect - If you have a “bad” haircut or a “good” haircut - most people don’t really notice - So I have been cutting my own hair for two years and my life hasn’t changed because of it. I’ve messed up every once in a while but I keep getting better and better.

Also with scissor-cut hair, if some hairs are short and some are long, it's hard to even see that. I recently tried a 3 inch clipper guard lol, and it did NOT work at all, though I might be able to get it to work better, but I'd rather use scissors now anyway. But, it clippered off an inch and half in some places, like 3 inches is some places (oops), and yea all over the place. But I can't even tell that anything went awry. Still need a self-haircut through because it's too long for what I want, which I'll be doing right this moment, actually.
As a socially awkward girl with short hair, who hates to go to the hairdresser's, this helps a lot. I've been cutting my own hair since the beginning of the pandemic but I always kinda winged it. It's time to do it right from now on 😂 thanks a lot, man!
You should try to put yourself in those uncomfortable situations or you will never conquer them. Coming from someone who was very socially awkward for the first 19 years of my life.

This will make cutting kiddos hair easy. I know how to hit the sides, but top trimming with scissors was very hard. This is awesome. Although this is the only video I’m gonna watch, you got my sub.
Such a great video. Really well done. Just cut my hair now! and it turned out great. I really like it. Looks like a regular perfectly fine haircut. Will also be easier the next time, since my hair was very different lengths all over the place. I screwed up a few things and learned some stuff: - I went much shorter than I was intending, mainly because I went too far back for each new section of combed hair, so the guideline was then shorter than it should have been, relative to the new hairs I was cutting. Really wanna work your way back in smaller increments. - Another part of it was that I struggled to see where the guideline even was (which is what lead to the prior thing I mentioned), but eventually I figured out which orientation to have the comb so as I could see just the tips of the guideline-hairs pop up, distinct from the new hairs I was cutting. Can't have the comb obstructing the view, especially if your hair is a similar colour to the comb. - Other than that, I made a serious mess of the bathroom! wet hair everywhere, is not good at all. Usually I am using clippers on dry hair for the sides and back (with a 4-foot tall mirror on an angle facing the bathroom mirror to see the back of my head), and then I just use a vacuum cleaner, but when the hair is wet, it's a nightmare (for just cutting the top there's no need for double mirrors). But anyway! my actual haircut does look great! lol. Update: I just cut my hair again, and this time it was a better setup. I stood in the bathtub, and had my 4-foot mirror lean against the wall (on top of a narrow box). All the wet hair falls into the bathtub and the water from my spray bottle doesn't make the situation worse like when the tiles were getting all wet before. I need to buy myself a cape, because those little hair really stick to ya skin. What would be preferable, is a smaller mirror that can be suspended from hooks over the top of the shower (or trust suction cups temporarily), and then cut the hair on top in the shower, since only one mirror is required and it doesn't need to be tall like when clippering the back of the head in the bathroom mirror. Easier clean-up, and you're already in the shower, so the hair under the feet doesn't need to be addressed. Just needs to be good enough lighting from in the shower. What's nice is that the direction can then be changed via putting the mirror on a different wall, for better lighting on that side of the hair. Second haircut turned out REALLY good. Like, it's a fantastic job lol. Next time should be a lot quicker as I get used to it. This time I figured out how to best hold the tools at each step like in the video, which is very handy.
My hair has been thinning and falling during the pandemic, I just went to the barber to a haircut, clippers on the side and little longer on the top, but that haircut doesnt suit me anymore, it was too long and thin, just saw this tutorial and did it :D, it was a big change, now its shorter and looks thicker and stands on its own! Not perfect by any means, but its pretty decent, thank you!!!
Cutting the Top Hair: (1) Hair Preparation: Wetting. Because it sticks together and straightens curly hair out (2) how much do you want to cut? (3) Comb emplacement: Comb the fringe back and up, and snip (4) Back combing: Push the comb deeper in, and use the first layer as a guideline, and snip. (5) Transition to all horizontal displacements of the scalp. (6) Snipping the side wings of the scalp may be done by tilting the comb. Tilt = less hanging over the sides. But some hang looks good.
Perfect timing! I need to cut the top of my son’s hair and this will help a lot. He loves his disconnect with the top long but I’m going to try to talk him into adding more layers like yours. Thank you so much for this video! 💥💪🏼
I first found your channel when I was trying to learn about photography equipment and it hasn't been until today when i seen your shirt in the video about motivation and discipline (which Im also going through the same struggles trying to figure out content and my set up for my TH-cam channel, that i haven't started yet and ive been saying i was going to for a year but am trying to make everything perfect before i post one and its just wasting time) that i learned that you're also a barber with you're own shop! I relate to what you share on you're channel so much because I also own a shop in the front of my house.. I do barbering, hairstyling, nails, and waxing. I loved this video, you're an excellent teacher Andy!
Best tutorial. I like to combine this with another tutorial for a simple side fade with electric clippers, and can't be happier about results. Finding a good, honest barber is more difficult than learning from an expert like you! Wish you all the best
Thank you for this tutorial. it's a little bit straight hair specific but it's kinda give you a general idea about cutting your own hair, i'll try this today.
Andy, I like all of your tutorials. Very detail, clear and straight to the point. Because of the Covid 19 pandemic, I've been learning and giving my family haircuts :) . I'm improving as I go along thanks to your videos. Keep doing more useful videos. Have a good day and be safe!
I'm gonna get into self-cutting soon. I think Heather Symmes' undercut video as Part 1 and this vid as Part 2 make great reference points in starting self-cutting, especially for this style. Very simple.
I tried cutting my top today following your video, it came out pretty even, thanks again for great videos, this should be mandatory for any one including barbers. Some day hope to go to your shop when i head to west coast.
Dude ik this video was 2 years ago but this video helped me so much so I can learn how to cut my boyfriends hair. I had no idea what I was doing last time & it somehow turned out okay but this video was THE ONE. I needed this video thankyou so much, my boyfriend will appreciate it✌️
Yeah right bro, this guy and his perfect hair, i've been doin my cuts since 7 years now, Always struggled with cutting the top long hair, the fades on the sides is easy but the top hair is not, This guy hair is thicc & stay together so well, you could do it blindfolded, While mine goes everywhere + bold spot in the top front lol. Goodluck doing this perfectly if you dont have his amazing hair
lol this is like a compliment and a diss at the same time. I don’t know if I should say thanks or what. But it really works! It might not be as easy but this is how you do it.
Great video. You do an amazing job of showing how, while explaining in an extremely understandable way. The best part of this video is you didn’t just do an absolute perfect job the first time and leave it like that, because that’s not how anybody’s gonna learn. I like how you went back and showed us all how to fix it like you know we’re gonna have to do. I am really thankful for people like you who do a good job teaching on TH-cam, because it’s become an extremely valuable resource for me to live the independent kind of lifestyle that I like. Thank you for the knowledge brother, I really appreciate it.
Thanks for this video mate! Always great content from you. Very well demonstrated and explained! This gave me the confidence to have a crack at doing this myself during my quarantine at home!
Enjoyed this one, especially you showing the 'guide'. I'm still on the hunt for a good clipper over comb showing/explaining the guide. I'll be re-watching this one!
A trick for anyone beginning - I have wavy hair which made cutting with scissors really difficult - so don't be afraid to use clippers to replace the scissors!
new sub ! thank you , i have always wanted to learn to cut my own hair lol , so i gave it a shot using your video , and my hair is very nice now . i had to use a diffrent video for short back and sides , but without this video i wouldve been stuck ! Big thank you , also if posible , could you do a video explaining how to trim the back and sides so it blends with this trim on top ? or maybe explain in reply . would be amazing !!!
While hair salons are open here, it's been hard for me to make time with work to get to one. Going to one just isn't something I feel totally comfortable with still. I bought clippers to shave my sides as that was pretty straight forward as I typically only just get shaved at 1 anyway. This video helped me loads, I just wanted to trim up the top as it got so long and bulky. I did this method as it's the easiest one I found to follow. I didn't butcher it! I'm pretty proud of myself for having never cut my hair before. Thank you so much!
Great stuff man, This really helps. I pretty much got the fade down but i never really know how to cut the top of my hair. Usually i'm too scared to cut length on top but now i think I'll actually gonna do a good job! Thanks again!

This is amazing. I am cutting my sons hair today and this is exactly what I needed.
Wonderful!
ive been looking for a tutorial like this for a while. you make this seem really approachable! i and my wallet thank you
Glad it was helpful!
This is great !! Never cut my hair but, I am going to do it!! The music is great and really relaxing. Thank you!!
Wonderful!
Andy, I like all of your tutorials. Very detail, clear and straight to the point. Because of the Covid 19 pandemic, I've been learning and giving my family haircuts :) . I'm improving as I go along thanks to your videos. Keep doing more useful videos. Have a good day and be safe!
One of the best explanations on TH-cam for cutting hair. Thank you!
Wow, thank you!
Best explanation of how to use scissors I’ve come across, thanks.
Thank you and thanks for watching
Thank you! this was the clearest video I've seen about self haircut
Great video! I just started doing my own cuts and basically do a good job but needed this video to keep the top a little longer. Appreciate you man.
Fantastic tutorial. Very informative and great narration of what you’re doing and why. Thank you so much!
I like the perfection even though it is on your own hair!!!! Great Tutorial!!!!!!!!!
It was especially important with my own hair lol
Dude ik this video was 2 years ago but this video helped me so much so I can learn how to cut my boyfriends hair. I had no idea what I was doing last time & it somehow turned out okay but this video was THE ONE. I needed this video thankyou so much, my boyfriend will appreciate it✌️
You're welcome!
Yeah right bro, this guy and his perfect hair, i've been doin my cuts since 7 years now,
Always struggled with cutting the top long hair, the fades on the sides is easy but the top hair is not,
This guy hair is thicc & stay together so well, you could do it blindfolded,
While mine goes everywhere + bold spot in the top front lol. Goodluck doing this perfectly if you dont have his amazing hair
lol this is like a compliment and a diss at the same time. I don’t know if I should say thanks or what. But it really works! It might not be as easy but this is how you do it.
@@AndysCuts Ahah that was an easy diss bro :), just jealous of your perfect hair :) good tutorial tho :)
I love this. Thank you for sharing! Glad I can help
You have no idea how much this helped me
Thank you so much! I'm glad it did
Great video! First time I had it explained where I understood how to judge where to cut after the initial cut.
Great to hear!
Amazed by your way of explaining the steps so well, chapeau!! ❤
Cutting my top has always been mediocre. Always looking for tips to get better. Thanks!
Happy to help!
Heck yeah bro, you just gave me the confidence to go for it. I got this. Great video thanks.
Man I needed this in 2019. Glad I've decided to check back on your channel.
this video is a lifesaver
I hope that helps
@@AndysCuts Definitely helps Andy. Thanks for making this video. I always found it easier cutting the sides compared to the top.
Give this man an Oscar, damn that was perfect ❤️✨
Your videos have been super helpful! I truly appreciate you taking your time to show us your professional skills!
Thanks for this video mate! Always great content from you. Very well demonstrated and explained! This gave me the confidence to have a crack at doing this myself during my quarantine at home!
Andy I will cut the top of my hair this week. Thanks for the great tutorial.....
You're welcome! Good luck
Took me a minute to get used to it but this was massively helpful. Safe to say I’m happy with the end result
Enjoyed this one, especially you showing the 'guide'. I'm still on the hunt for a good clipper over comb showing/explaining the guide. I'll be re-watching this one!
Thank you for another wonderful tutorial. Everything is on point. 💯
Gonna master that layering stuff.
Thank you for the tutorial Andy! The best that I’ve seen yet. So thorough and easy to follow. 👌👏
Cutted my hair for the first time today at 2:40 am. Thanks man.
Thank you Andy! Your video is easy to learn from and easy to watch.

Woooow, amazing how simple it is to cut my own hair, thank you for this video, i can now use my buzzer And Shears
Wow exactly what I was looking for; Straight to the point and very clear. Thank you👍👍
A trick for anyone beginning - I have wavy hair which made cutting with scissors really difficult - so don't be afraid to use clippers to replace the scissors!
Nice!
Great video!!!! Cutting my son hair tonight and the video was awesome!!!
nice!
new sub ! thank you , i have always wanted to learn to cut my own hair lol , so i gave it a shot using your video , and my hair is very nice now . i had to use a diffrent video for short back and sides , but without this video i wouldve been stuck ! Big thank you , also if posible , could you do a video explaining how to trim the back and sides so it blends with this trim on top ? or maybe explain in reply . would be amazing !!!
thanks, super helpful! Saves me time, trouble and money.
You bet I’m glad it helped
I don’t usually like videos but this is knowledge for the guys 👍🏾 for u my boy
I appreciate that
Ah my friend this is the best video I've seen on this subject!!! Thank you ❤
Thank you!
Why do we have same name?
Great stuff man, This really helps. I pretty much got the fade down but i never really know how to cut the top of my hair. Usually i'm too scared to cut length on top but now i think I'll actually gonna do a good job! Thanks again!
Bro your a life saver you make it so simple I love it. God bless you
I appreciate that!
more informative than the other haircutting videos i watched
Thanks!
Thought I was going to mess up, came out pretty good. Now I have to learn how to trim the back. Thanks!!
Glad I could help!
Man u make it look so easy...but will take practice to get good like u
Yup! You got this
Thank you so much Sir! I really appreciate your no rush technique!
You are very welcome
It's an amazing video! I am so happy and grateful to have access people like you that teach us such a valuable skill especially these times.! I watch the video over and over again to learn more and I can say that this is the video what made me be able to cut my hair close to perfect. I hope you're doing well. Thank you, Andy!
Perfect .... I can selfcut the spiky style but the problem was cutting or leveling those edge tips of spikies that you solved today thanks alot
Selfie-HairMaster Even-Zen ! Tough to DIY style layer the top head crown ! Great Demo ! 😎
