    Very well put together video. Now we have some sort of clue of how much torque and hp these “baby” engines can handle. I have an idea, you should do an update after 50,000 miles or 100,000 miles.
    Thanks for the video btw I feel safe to go with a 27won turbo upgrade. I feel like PRLs kit is great but won’t last as long as 27wons with a stock motor.

    I really love this video, and thanks for the teardown, but I just wanted to make a comment on what Eman said about oil Viscosity for this engine. Before I make any comments on this, I just want to state that I really don't want to start a "which viscosity you should use" debate, everyone has their preference, and I respect that. That said, for his particular operating conditions, bigger turbo, tuned for more whp, harder operating conditions etc.a higher viscosity oil may be warranted, but Honda specifically designed this engine for 0W20, and 0W20 protects this engine very well in all types of operating conditions. I have a 2018 Si, tuned (Ktuner with the TSP stage 1 tune) and I drive this car very hard. I do a lot of driving between NorCal and SoCal (360 miles each way) in all types of conditions, from harsh summer where the temp has hit 115 degrees F to below 30 degrees F at 80 to 90 mph for 7 or 8 hour stretches. Because I have been doing all this harsh driving, I wanted to see how well my oil stood up to the beating (I use Idemitsu 0W20 full synthetic), so on my last oil change which was 7K from my last change I sent it to Blackstone labs for analysis. The oil was in good condition and I could have gone another 3K on it before changing it. Everything from wear metals to Viscosity breakdown were all excellent. Currently I have 16K, no leaks, seepage of oil or anything of the sort.
    I don't have any issues using a higher viscosity oil, but just know that if there is an oil related failure, Honda America told me that using any other Viscosity than the one they state in their manual would void warranty. Now if you have modified your cars the way Eman has, warranty probably doesn't matter to you anyway

    • @sharedknowledge6640
      @sharedknowledge6640 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s also worth noting a 5w-30 has more viscosity improvers which many claim is detrimental to this engine and makes any fuel dilution issues worse. Consensus among oil experts is, regardless of what oil you run, changing it more often is better than running a heavier oil or anything more costly than mainstream full synthetic. If you’re still under your power train warranty stick to an approved 0w-20 and OEM filters and keep the receipts.

      The B7 is an entirely different engine and shares only bore spacing with the Fit engine per Honda’s own power train engineer. The intake, accessories, and exhaust are swapped front to back which are huge changes. The B7 also has sodium filled valves, a different oiling system, different cooling system, etc.

    I happen to have the L15BA turbo variant of this engine in my Civic. You said that 0W-20 is too thin, I agree especially with a bigger turbo. That being said, how does the L15 series engine handle 5W-30 built, not stock? I do have concerns about the oil grade being too thick where it cannot lubricate the crankshaft journals properly.

    Subscribed @k20z3allmotorFTW I have a 2017 Si coupe. Had it for two years and only now have put 25k miles on it. Been running Hondata since 8k miles. This channel is an inspiration and probably the most abusive to the little 1.5L motor lol. So far the fuel system seems to be the only limit for this motor. I've been real conservative with mods cause I need this car to last me a little while longer and I was skeptical of its durability when tuned. The doubt is gone now for sure.
    My only question would be, what mods are recommended for a conservative build aiming for anywhere from 300-350whp?

    Thanks for doing this. I’m curious what oil you used and how often you changed it? And was there much carbon on the back side of the valves? I Do Cars also tore down one of these with unknown miles that apparently was run with insufficient oil and it destroyed the intake cam especially by the fuel pump. So the cam journal closest to the fuel pump is apparently a weak spot and worth checking. Some hate on these engines but they seem to be typical Honda well engineered.

    Hey sorry for the dumb question new to the car scene so this new honda engine does it fall into the B series engine or is it a new series of engine i know there is the k series.

    • @mmwosu
      @mmwosu 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      L series. The B series has been out of production for nearly 2 decades and the K series currently only exists as a new production in the 2020 type R.

    I have same engine in my civic. Why do you think some people have had head gasket issues on this engine with no alterations?

    • @theholt2ic219
      @theholt2ic219 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s hard to say. Mostly using 87. Or what I think a bad batch from the factory. My 1.5t in my 2017 civic blew a head gasket at 75k. Now I have an 24 integra. Strictly use premium only now. Idk why but I do feel like my civic was slightly faster then my integra.

    I have a '19 Si coupe, did you notice any oil dilution issues?

    • @GoshGollie
      @GoshGollie 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      My brother is a honda tech and says these engines suffer from oil dilution primarily from extended idling on cold start ups in cold weather and from going super long times without oil changes. He says when he does oil changes on cars with 5k miles since the last service the oil DOES NOT smell like gasoline, but when he does oil changes on cars that have gone 8-10k since service, it reeks of gasoline

      Not a K swap, just a painted valve cover. The L13B is an ugly little engine as it comes from the factory

    That engine cannot make 465HP if it is stock hardware. Need forged pistons and titanium connecting rods as well as a different block/cylinder liners + many other changes.

    Is this 1.5L the same as the one in the Honda Fit? Im thinking of buying one, and tricking it down the road, and am wondering if the 1.5 in the civics that are naturally aspirated, the same as the Fit.

    • @MadMexism
      @MadMexism 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jamesmedina2062 , the US. I know its a turbo car, but i just wanted to know if beyond that, if the internals are pretty much the same or not.

    • @jamesmedina2062
      @jamesmedina2062 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rene Pena I have not looked closely at both blocks. The bore and stroke is the same but from Honda's perspective, they needed to increase power from 130 hp in the Fit to 200 hp in Civic SI. Rods, cooling, high pressure fuel pump and direct injection and possibly other differences. Also the engine is turned around in the Civic to enable air cooling of exhaust and turbo.

    • @sharedknowledge6640
      @sharedknowledge6640 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No they’re not at all the same. Everything is flipped around front to back, different mounts, different bell housing, cooling, oiling, etc. Honda’s own head of powertrains said only the bore centers are the same.
