  • It isn't under the hood!? Nope. It's under the driver seat. And it's a pain to access. If your battery goes dead and you have electronic seats your screwed. You have to get a jump then move the seat. There are terminals to jump under the hood.

I wanted to share a recent experience I had with my 2018 Ford Mid Roof van. My van has 55K miles. The battery is showing signs of dying. I have 190 watts of solar on the roof running to 2 40 amp hour lithium ion batteries by Valence inside the van that run my ICECO fridge, the exhaust fan for my Natures Head composting toilet and 2 MaxxAir fans. I paid someone to do the wiring for my solar. The guy recommended installing an isolator to charge my solar batteries from the alternator if I was ever without enough sun to charge my lithium ion batteries. You would simply switch the isolator to on and charge your lithium ion batteries from your alternator while you were driving down the road. HERE'S THE GOOD PART. My van battery finally took a poop. I got the bright idea to switch the isolator on to see if the lithium ion batteries would start the van and it cranked right up. I didn't need anything to jump start the van. It was already on board and I didn't know it would work until I tried. I hope this helps you. It will come in very handy in a pinch. P.S. I did go and buy an Interstate non AGM battery for the van. So now I have the van battery and two lithium ion batteries in my van.

I will eventually need a small solar system on my Transit. For that reason, I was told to save weight and money on the dual battery/alternator system and use lithium batteries.

Hey I bought pretty much the same van. Are you planning to use the upfitter switches and how did you run the wire?

On my 2020 upfitter connections are behind the glove box. Ill probably k let use them for outside lights since it’s always on the damn timer.

Got the light working today with Aux 2. Used the wire harness, ran a wire up the A post to the back, out the roof hole.

Do all transits have dual batteries? I have 20' also wanting to make power for accessories for conversion is this enough power or should add a coup kor batteries and a isolation switch...I'm electrician but auto electric has me spinning a bit

No they don't they have a few battery setup options. Most builders say better to keep the cabin batteries separate. Dual AGM's would be enough for a cooler, fan and a some led lights.
