- Wondering what size bolts and rivnuts/plusnuts to buy for your van conversion? Here’s a quick video of the various hole sizes in the 2021 Ford transit medium roof cargo van.
Threaded Rear cargo door area, and above the wheel wells: M10 x 1.5
Threaded holes in upper side walls: M8 x 1.25
Non-threaded holes in walls: the large majority will fit M6 rivnut perfectly. I tried 1/4x20 prebulbed cross nuts and they were way too big to fit without being hammered in (which is not recommended).
The ceiling was a mixed bag. 1/4x20 previlbed plus nuts worked in two of the holes. The rest were random sizes that wouldn’t fit any rivnuts so I drilled them out to fit an m6 and coated with rustoleum.
Did I miss any holes? Let me know in the comments. - บันเทิง

Fantastic! Thank you!
Great resource! Thanks. I thought I was going crazy when I couldn't find a system to the holes! Wonder why Ford doesn't make the info available. Maybe the professional upfitters are privy to this info?
In USA, the bolt in above the wheel well is a 7/16"x20.
Thank you!
i like the factory m8 location, theres like 8-9 of them on each side, so i enlarged all the small holes that im gonna use to house m8 rivet nuts (yes primed and painted them).
Which drill bit kit? The steel is hardened with boron!
Good Information. I think there are enough holes in the Transit that you shouldn't have to drill any new holes. At least, that's my objective.
We actually still had to drill a few holes, and enlarge a few others, to install rivnuts exactly where we needed them. But the pre-drilled holes were a huge help.
New FTC owner here and I am a total noob... how do the rivnuts not fall out?
The rivnut gun when you squeeze the handles together applies a layer of adhesive glue
