    As a machinist I’m blown away. Thinking about the precision of the vase the machine that made this would have needed to be incredibly rigid. Also the cutting tools employed would have had to been to a precision not even employed in aircraft or rocket manufacturing. Tolerance is typically on even precise holes held to +.0005, that’s half a thou. The fact that it’s also using a algorithm to produce the radius of each surface feature is mind blowing. There is a incredible sophistication to this that is out of time and should disturb everyone to what we have been told about history and how accurate it is.

    • @oldscratch3535
      @oldscratch3535 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

      You still have people out there who think this can be done by hand or on a simple wooden man powered lathe. I run Tsugami Swiss machines. I couldn't even make this vase on that machine and they are very, very capable of complex work. I couldn't do the internal geometry. The workholding and part transfer to the sub spindle would also be very difficult b/c of the oblate spheroid shape and integrated handles. I could easily do it out of aluminum on a 5-axis though. Granite is a different story.
      Another problem people don't think about is tooling. You need tooling that is easily replaceable and that is manufactured to a repeatable tolerance so tool changes don't induce large variations in geometry. If it does, you then need a way to input work offsets to compensate for differing tool tolerances. Just like when I change inserts in my machine, I usually have to go in and make wear offsets to get the tool cutting back to nominal. And that's with precision made machines and tooling.
      To make something this precise you also have to have a way to measure the precision. That's another layer of sophistication and technology. You cannot make precision objects without being able to measure precision objects. You cannot measure precision objects without being able to gage and qualify your measuring instruments to a standard. I have to have granite surface plates, standards, and gages at hand just to qualify my measuring instruments so I can accurately measure my parts.
      People who aren't astonished by these vases or think they can be easily made with primitive tools have no concept of the principles of machining, workholding, and metrology.

    • @zadenwachter9918
      @zadenwachter9918 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@oldscratch3535I have some experience with precision machining. Our family ran multiple lumber mills employing half a dozen millwrights, and I helped a teeny bit. Just enough to understand how difficult some of this stuff is to duplicate.
      I think what has happened is people generally lack even a cursory understanding like mine in this or other fields. So they see everything as either simple and achievable (usually because some authority figure told them so) or it's magic and beyond mortal means (they also tend to think this only if they've been told so, like with macroeconomics).
      Extending the metaphor, you're a wizard of some ability and I'm a dropout who only got so far in my studies to know how to intelligently read your spellbooks. To everyone else, it's woo.

    • @AustinKoleCarlisle

      Exactly! So if these offsets were incorporated into the final stage of the object to account for the error introduced by tool changes, then how the hell did they abrade/polish the vase while maintaining tolerance if they had no way of measuring down to the 1000th of an inch?

    • @RealKlausSchwab
      @RealKlausSchwab 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      @oldscratch3535 exactly, these look like they were made on a 5 axis mill, or mill/turn.
      I'm leaning towards 5 axis mill due to lack of mismatch between surfaces in the area between the lug handles.
      Either way you put it, these vases are earth shattering proof of ancient technologies that, in some ways, are more advanced than our own.

      That’s probably because he literally teaches a class on it. And his goal is to get people to understand. Not to get status from sounding smart.
      People who are legit trying to get the student to learn will explain things in the simplest way to accomplish that goal. It’s easy to confuse and sound smart. Eric Weinstein does it all the time. Maybe the topics he talks about can’t be simplified. I love Eric but I rarely understand what he’s talking about.
      Randall also dwells on topics for a long time so it gives plenty of time to learn.

      100%. The problem is, we can all see that there is something REALLY special about these shapes that exhibit 3D symmetry. You see them in pollen, you see pyrite form in crystal habits of every Platonic Solid depending on the heat and pressure those crystals formed under which is absolutely bonkers. But what does it all mean? Is it just about optimal efficiency and utilisation of available materials? Are there other properties to these shapes beyond visual interest? I have no idea, but just looking at them prompts something curious in me I can’t put into words. The problem comes when those pseudoscientific cuckoos come along and project their New Age psychobabble onto it. I do think there’s some really special things about them, I just have no idea what they are. Sure wish I did though.

To think the bottom layer is this chaotic random mess is just silly. Things randomly popping in and out of existence being in two places and not knowing where anything is coming from is absurd. When the very next level is geometrically precise, and consistent and mathematically predictable. Sorry the two are incompatible or is it realistic to believe it’s true.

      @@CLMillerart If you cant explain how something was made then you cant explain it. That should be the end of it but instead people then proceed to say "well if we cant explain how it was made then it must be power tools"...This is the way that people would attribute everything to God before science could understand things. The irony is that there are answers to Ben's rhetorical questions. We do know how the core were drilled its just that Ben just hand waives the evidence away. Lets do what you are suggesting and not be bitter. Lets be open minded and entertain alternative ideas. Can I ask if it offends you if I suggest that ben is wrong? Do you think its possible that I could show you evidence that proves that core 7 is not a spiral? Genuine question I promise.

    • @CLMillerart
      @CLMillerart 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AIenSmithee I have an open mind brother. If he’s wrong then he’s wrong but on the other hand, classic explanations have not been tested thoroughly without the assistance of modern tools. I am referencing the core drills. Core drills aren’t my area of concern however, the vases are. I only get bitter when people use hateful comments for criticism. Calling Ben an equivalent to a flat eather is disrespectful to Ben. Bottom line is that nothing is truly known how most thi yin Egypt came to be. Instead of lashing out at one another over a petty disagreement is not productive. We can all agree that the mysteries of ancient Egypt were solved in the 1800’s and early 1900’s. If Ben wants to go down the rabbit hole of ancient power tools, let him and if he figures out he is incorrect, then I am sure the dude will move on and research in a different direction. These are theories. We must not forget that.

    • @AIenSmithee
      @AIenSmithee 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CLMillerart I sense the sincerity in what you are saying. I wont push the issue but there have been move experiments done outside what Ben sites to prove ancient techniques. I'm not saying he is a flat earther I am saying how what things look like intuitively doesn't matter in the face of science. If I woke up tomorrow with no memory it would be a lot easier to convince me the world is flat than a giant ball spinning through space. Also, I don't know why you would care if it is offensive to Ben? If you called Einstein a moron I wouldn't care. I love alternative ideas but the issue is that once somone digs their flag in the sand they cant go back. Lets pretend that Ben does his research and comes to the conclusions that scientists already hold. He's not going to just accept that and close his TH-cam page and cancel his podcasts appearances. He has had to slowly start to walk back stuff he has said as he has become more popular but people have a tendency to harden their view once they have their bubble burst. Full disclosure I used to preach Ancient alien stuff. I watched Chariots of the Gods as a kid and that was my gospel. I know form first hand experience that is hard to let go once you set your heart on an idea. If you would like some cool stuff about ancient Egypt masonry techniques I'm happy to provide but I wont push. I know its less fun and more dry than ancient power plants or power tools but still good reading.

    Randall is a gem. 3.5 Hours in, AND am I am still hungry for more!!! The scale & expanse of his learning and the lucid method of delivering logically structured knowledge, surpasses anything you can come across in today’s age.

    I think the functional return argument is spot on. Also if you've already made precision equipment for a functional reason, you can then make lesser items very precise because it is easy to do so.

      Ben explained it in another episode and many places... the level of precision on something like the Great Pyramid is UNBELIEVABLELY accurate and tight and for something that is just a tomb and/or other purpose built... its just not needed. They could've achieved the same result with less precise detail and tightness and also they (scientists/engineers/etc) have tried methods to build a pyramid and you can do it with smaller stones and less detail and it takes FARRR less time and energy and overall everything to finish it, yet they still did all that stuff.
      He's talking about the vase right now... 1/1000th of a inch, half a human hair tolerances, rose granite... with copper chisels and stone pounders?! LMAO sure........ just a bunch of men and maybe women with weak egos who cant stand to see the cash and power grab being on team Egypt brings for everything or just keeping the status quo.

      Yeah it doesn’t even matter if it was functional or not. The fact that they were able to make things that precise is itself proof they had the ability to do so. And copper chisels don’t have the ability to do so.
      So even if they were tombs what lost tech did they have that made the construction possible? The mainstream story is not a very compelling hypothesis.

      I think Randal should take another look at pole shifts. People don't start living underground just to avoid random asteroid/comet impacts.
