      Tried this mob after you recommended them… I bought and paid for a new Omega Seamaster 600m. Told it was being dispatched, then it had been sold and it was a mistake on their system but when I asked why it was still for sale on their web site I was then advised that they couldn’t sell it to me due to Brexit! However if I’d let them hold the cash, they could order in another example in around 5 week! Interestingly it’s still showing as available almost a week later #very-confused 🤔

      Panerai were never made in Florence, cases and movements were ordered from Rolex so mostly it is Rolex who was manufacturing Panerai… The company has lied too many times throughout their communication and this is the reason these watches have lost their credibility and popularity even though their design is nice and unique. But with low prices on the second hand these become interesting…

    A Luminor Due (42mm) was my second automatic watch. I always loved the design but the thickness was a killer for me. When the Luminor Due came out i tried it on and fell in love with the dial and wearability. Don't care about the 30m i am not going swimming sith it anyways and it's a perfect mix between classy/dressy and still sporty for these summer weekends!

    I think a plain, 3-6-9-12 dial with no seconds hand and a hand wound movement is still the best way to go for a Panerai. Just so simple and the hand wound movement means you actually have to flip the crown lock every 3 to 8 days depending on the movement.

      Don't other Richemont companies like IWC and Cartier use Richemont owned Valfleurier movements also? Panerai seems to always get hate for this but others escape it. IWC and Cartier put their own reference numbers on movements not made in -House also. This is what Panerai have done and the guy who has major personal problems with the company has blown it up because Hodinkee said in-house. This is similar to Omega and Co-Axial. I would love to see a side by side of a Panerai/IWC caseback Vs a Tudor black Bay silver which is in-house. The difference in decoration is massive between them

    I tried one. A 42mm Radiomir thinking it would be to big but was surprised how well it fitted my wrist. It felt very elegant and sleek. I can understand how they were so popular. If even asked the ad if they were not popular anymore but was told they are very much still popular and attract a lot of attention in the shop window.

  • @DavidDatura
    @DavidDatura 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If the smaller Due range were based on the Radiomir rather than the Luminor. It would be more acceptable as a dress watch I reckon. As Radiomir’s look much more like dress watches anyway…than the crown guard with lever sealed Luminor’s do. Just look at British brand Fears watches, with their “small” Radiomir-esque cushion case styling 🤷‍♂️
    Radiomir’s are just huge! So a smaller Due version would be great. Then maybe that paltry (for a Panerai) 30m WR wouldn’t be as irksome? But if the likes of Seiko amongst others can get decent 100m WR out of their watches by using just modern rubber gaskets and no screw down crown. I don’t see why Panerai can’t. It’s maybe just a marketing ploy. And not a very successful one at that, considering all the controversy it generates.

    I consider myself among the Paneristi, having 4 models. I love the charm and uniqueness of Panerai and visited Firenze several years ago. I myself prefer the older hand-winding models, having a year 2000 PAM055, a 2002 PAM112, a 372, and finally an auto - the PAM1024. People liked to knock PAMs for the size, neglecting to consider the fact that the case size was required because of the pocket-watch movements inside. This and the crown guard became Panerai DNA and I would not have it any other way.

    Overpriced is what comes to mind. Ironically their older models are much nicer like the 000, 111, and 104. They now make crap entry level models.
    The most annoying thing about the brand is the inability or lack of want to stop replicas. The replicas have gotten so good they are interchangeable with genuine parts. Its a 1:1 copy!!! The bev hills boutique rep even told me that panerai is not concerned about fakes. Her answer was just to buy all new through the boutiques! Lol. Richemont as new clue. They dont realize the vintage market fuels the new models. Look at rolex sport watches. Plus, same watch for a replica price of $300 with 100m water resistance or entry level snap back with same resistance for $4000?!? Really?
    Panerai cant even tell replicas apart as they have posted replicas on their own damn Instagram page! Lol. Dumb asses.
    And now their new advertised “in house” chronograph movement was outed to just be an ETA movement!
    Richemont is running panerai to the ground.

    Nice video Adrian. A point I think worth making with brands in the richemont group (more than SWATCH and LVMH I feel) is that the pressure seems to be off every brand to fill every segment - they seem quite happy for panerai to be a one trick pony as long as that trick is doing ok, likewise JLC, Cartier etc. It makes comparing brands within groups that are like role players in a team with independents (or flagships like Omega) a little tricky.

    One thing you didn’t mention about the PANERAI range is that some models come with an exhibition case-back. I have a preference for the 38mm DUE but they do not (or did not) exhibit the mechanism. I’m a fan of Panerai, my wife has one of the early Dues at 38mm and she adores it. I’m concerned about this recent movement issue of using ETA and doing the “in-house” story….. and it confirms my personal feelings about the management team. I would look at the older Panerai pieces 372, 422, even a 560 than some of the PAMs.

    Barely 50 seconds in and you’re already talking nonsense, Panerai used ETA and other movements until the late 2000’s when they switched to Val Fleurier who make movements for the rest of the group including Montblanc, Baume et Mercier, et al. They called them “in house” in an attempt to add perceived value when in reality they were and remain to this day at best a very mediocre substitute. This also allowed them to flood the market with lots of new models over the following decade which significantly impacted their secondhand value that until then was on a par with Rolex albeit on a much smaller scale.
    Panerai’s Belle Epoch was roughly the first decade under Richemont since then they’ve been steadily declining in popularity as a direct result of shamelessly exploiting their loyal following by hiking up their prices and flooding the market with more watches than it can reasonably support. Subsequently more recent models perform poorly on the secondhand market compared to earlier models that were produced with better movements and in far fewer numbers. Quality control too has suffered significantly over the last decade as has the quality of design with the disappearance of hacking from the P.9010 calibre and shitty case design which has seen the introduction of snap case backs and integrated bezels. Basically everything’s been going the wrong way for years now and frankly, especially in the case of the Due line, they’re just ridiculously overpriced garbage.
    If you love the look and don’t want to piss your money up the wall, go back at least a decade and choose one of their earlier models, they will hold their value, perform flawlessly and last longer.

    Dive based watches with 50m of water resistance, in house movements that are not, pricing to rival Rolex, when it should be in line with Omega and Tudor, and that's for starters. The lost their way and if they get back to making tool watches for reasonable $, would do fine. Now, too many good choices for the $ they're asking. The design is iconic for sure, but that only gets you so far. Pass.

    Why people do dive watches reviews and recons, when literally NOBODY takes them to go dive and judge how readable and functional they are UNDER the deep?
    Bezel action and reliablility can ONLY be judged IF UNDER WATER. I know you love them, am I wrong? Greetings from Japan - a country where people actually dive :)

    • @BarkandJack
      @BarkandJack  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because dive watch is a style, rather than a single purpose item, like a knife. Can’t use a knife for anything other than cutting. A dive watch is a design that can be used as an everyday watch. It’s similar to doing a review on a Porsche 911 GT3, it’s a sports car, but very few people use it for sports.
      The requirement for it be purposeful as a dive watch differentiates it from an actual dive watch and a fashion watch. A bit like the Range Rover Evoque vs Defender. Defender is a proper off roader, Evoque is a fashion off roader. Basically, if a company says it’s something, it should be that thing.

    Panerista here. PAM351 was the 2nd “nice” watch I added years ago to the collection and still have it-It will likely never leave. Best thing about the luminor marina line is that you can buy a new strap and practically feel like you got a new watch. Easily changing straps is the best part of owning a Panerai. I’ve taken mine on lots of vacations, snorkeling, hiking, snowboarding, etc. rugged enough for daily use but change the strap and you can rock it with a nice suit too. I also love the sandwich dial- best looking lume on a dial by far and very legible. These watches are not about precision, hence the lack of minute hash marks. Instead they’re all about style, comfort, legibility and versatility. The older models like mine are also slightly more desired because they don’t have the stupid “automatic” text at 6 o’clock on the dial, ruining the symmetric look. Some prefer the slightly thicker case of the older models too. I’ve tried on the newer/slimmer versions and am glad I have the old case design. But to each their own.
