Yeah! I was able to tell the difference. First sign was the difference in the stitching in the leather straps, as well as the quality of the leather straps themselves. Getting a Panerai this year; quite exciting.

Same remark as I wrote regarding Rolex fakes: the fakes have become so close to the original at a fraction (typically 6-10%) of the cost of the original, BECAUSE the original isn’t special (hi-quality) enough. Panerai charges a premium yet uses a convenient hairspring stopper that has been used since 200 years ago instead of a free-sprung balance which would be too costly for the Chinese to copy. At the cost that Rolex and Paneria charges they should be using expensive and hi-tech materials and techniques, instead of the easy-to-produce techniques known by all Chinese people.
To the best of my knowledge all Rolex have a free sprung balance. But since they have a solid case back...

I agree with you regarding the free sprung balance. There are too many companies selling expensive watches with the simplest of curb regulators. Breitling and Grand Seiko immediately come to mind.
Say what? Rolex smelts his own steel and gold. Not a single replica yet came close to Rolex even in 1x10 magnification. And when you see the movement you don't have to be a watchmaker to see which one is fake. Not to mention Rolex crown logo on a dial is made of gold and they got few more ways to sneak precious metals in the watch most don't about. And ofc, all Rolex watches are tested and certified. Don't know about Panerai tho.
@@smashexentertainment676 This may shock you but hi-end fakes actually are using real Rolex components like bezels, dials and datewheels. And one more thing: who of the watch-geeks is able to recognize a fake movement? I am since I know to look for the free-sprung balancewheel (that is a give-away for identification), but who else knows exactly what to look for?

Funny thing is the replica he is reviewing here is an old ass model the new ones look like the real one on the right with the correct lettering and platinum finish. I'm guessing that fake was made in 2010 lmfao

I picked the wrong one from the video. The finish and design on the left, the colours and engravings around the edge made it appear better in the video. Close up may be a different story. But iam not clued up on Panarai and never handled one. Scary though, good video J

Honestly the one on the left looked much better, except the “Panerai” on the movement. So I can pay under $500 for a $5000 watch that would fool a watch dealer? Even if it only lasts a few years I could buy it 10-15 times over.
Maybe Panerai should up it’s quality if it’s so easily, and effectively, reproduced.

I have a bb54, too, and I love it! I had the original bbb41 eta smiley dial for 8 years. I loved that watch, but it wore a bit big.
I ended up selling it and getting a bb58. I never really connected with that one.
Long story short, I sold it and got the 54. Incredible watch. Wears so comfortably and looks amazing!
I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the shimmering glossy dial, but it's absolutely beautiful. I was used to the previous griity matte dials of the other bbs I previously had. The 54 is an absolute keeper for me, I believe.

The real Panerai font is all I needed to see to determine the real one. The 3/6/9 (mostly the 3) give it away. Great video!!
Does all the font of the 6 9 would be the same as the 000 in the vid? Will it be different for different batch?
I have both a homage and real Panerai. Both look very similar. Both run exactly the same and the lum is the same. Both have 6497 movements. BUT, one is so much less to buy. I own Rolex, Omega and Tagheuer as well. What I am finding is the movement makes the watch not the watch makes the time piece. I'm done with over priced labels. It only satisfies the seller, not the buyer in the long run. Ego trip gets the cash.

I bought few years ago a clone AAA Panerai, 450€ and 4 of 4 professional watch dealers were sure it was the real one! They checked even the sapphire glass, the movement, everything! I could sell it for 8.000 and earn 7.550€ but even if I'm Yugoslavian I'm not a criminal. 😜The watch makes +2 seconds a day! So I wonder, why should I spend 12.000€ for a watch if I can have even better watch (more precise definitely) for 30 times less money??

Panerai is an Italian brand, with a factory in Switzerland. It's up to you if you want to feel scammed for paying more than $8k for an unfinished, low-beat nickel plated 6497 movement that can be had for $160 inside a machine engraved $150 case.

hi , I saw that you have the breathing chronomat 44mm I would like to buy a chronomat 44mm black dial, breathing is gonna remove this model very soon, and I love this model but its highly polished the whole watch, Im scared that it will pick up scratches, specially the case which will be very obviously. what do you think?

They are very very hard to spot. I have a real PAM177 and a fake 177 that I use for travel. The fake was ~$300; the real one was a little under $6k used. The real one runs at +2s/day; the fake runs at -4s/day. No way to tell the difference, even when they're right next to each other; the cases and dials are identical. Until you flip them over and look at the movements ... the fake has pretty crude finishing on the movement and the logo is slightly wrong. (The fake strap is easy to spot though ... gotta put an authentic one on.)

i noticed 3 issues right off the bat: the hands, there was a gap between the center screw and the connected hands. the AR coating looked very cheap. the 12 on the dial had a very minor defect.
and then it was hell obvious soon as you saw the case back writing.

The left one has a pinion that the hour and minute are attached is not flushed as the genuine, that’s the first tell for me.
The movement on the 111 is way lower than some of the best reps out there. If you put a good rep next to gen I'm certain most would not be able to tell.
two things give it away the good leather strap and the movement you can tell which one is fake the left one is a fake but you have to dig deep into the case back to be sure

I bought a fake Rolex and a Patek two years ago a € 60,- and they still running perfectly. The rolex strap is horrible btw.

both are panerai and of equal quality and value
I spotted it almost immediately by looking at the pivot pin on the crown lock. My 0111 is a fake that a friend built from parts and offered to me at a very fair price. It has no lettering of any kind, and has a ST 3600 movement which has been oiled and regulated, and keeps almost perfect time. TBH, I wouldn`t enjoy a real Panerai any more than this one, I wear it every day.
The A in Panerai on the dial print made easy to spot the 000 as the fake even without looking at the movement (which is a clear giveaway itself).
The 111 is the fake one buddy... not the 000.

One way to avoid a fake as well is to buy a PAM with an in-house movement. I own a 510, even though there are replicas of the P5000, its an easy tell because a plate sits over an ETA6497 faking the real P5000. The balance on a real P5000 is smaller, the barrel click can be seen moving while winding the watch, etc. The replica top plate has jewels with no pivots, fake gears, etc. It is much easier to replicate an original Panerai model that contains an ETA movement, because for example ETA 6497 are readily available.

The shitty strap had Mark's all over the back it looked like leather but probably bonded with cheep P.U backing the way the pins where put in , I noticed that when you moved it a round it looked flimsy , too much movement. Also the balance wheel movement was moving at a different speed . Top video through . But very scary indeed regards Paul . I have heard Panerai is horrible on warranty service. Reading reviews elsewhere folks have said they have had problems with Panerai with warranty, repairs, and turn around time.
That being said my Rolex, Oris, and Bell & Ross have been flawless. I'm hesitant to buy ne of these watches. Maybe I'll just get a replica! LOL
If watch comes back from being serviced or repaired to quickly I would there was something wrong with it.
Franken watches are more concerning. Replica with real parts. Makes them that much more difficult to spot
Hi there you could tell the fake the printing was terrible if a panerai has a mahogany style box with papers and plastic card the box is lovely and the watch is very smooth and the printing on the back is engraved in the steel is that a copy
I've a gen PAM 93 and the fake sticks out a mile even before you take the back off

You did not have the best version of replica. I don't really know what this was but it wasn't great. There are version of pam111 that are on a very high level of movement finish. Would be very hard to tell any difference unless you know what to look for or have a direct comparison with knowing the real thing
Like J said, always buy from a trusted seller, there are crooks all over the world, If a deal looks to good to be true it probably is. Let the buyer beware (caveat emptor), the finish of the movement on the right is in another league.

How come the real PANERAI crown guard didn't have 'REG TM' engraved upon it? That's been a standard feature on PAN watches for long enough
The “Reg TM” on the crown guard is found on the 1950s case, not the Bettarini. If you look at Panerai’s website, you’ll notice the same. I have a PAM773, which does not have the markings on the crown guard.

Had considered a Panerai a few times and this comparison with a counterfeit intrigued me. Still pretty good work on the counterfeit considering the quality of the authentic one. Taking a close look at the authentic one, the fit and finish isn’t really outstanding for the price point. I’d sooner spend the same $ on something else with hacking and more robust/accurate movement. In any event, thanx for the comparison and what to watch for if ever considering a new or used Panerai from a questionable seller. I imagine a few people have been “robbed”. I even noticed some sites that even sell “replica” watches... insanity

You can tell by first glance, even without looking at the movement - just take a closer look at the crown guard, the non flush pin, the non flush pressed hands. Whoever thinks this quality is even close should not be wearing either one of these, he should stick to a plastic G-SHOCK.
G shock is a great brand.
Immediately obvious, the hand stack on the replica doesn't sit flush with the pinion. The SWISS MADE is almost cutting into the 6 marker, whereas the genuine one doesn't.

For $288 I'm tempted by this fake I have to say .
We live in a time where the ppl that create cloned watches also clone the tools & machinery to make the watch.
If you ask me. The major brands have no justification to charge ppl £100k+ for a watch that is only some minute fractions above a clone that costs a few hundred or thousand.
If you still buy from a genuine retailer then check your ego before you purchase.

Hey, as far as I agree it is risky to buy gen PAMs online if those are not full boxed sets I am sorry to tell you all that the fake 111H presented in this video is a pretty loussy fake... thats not high end rep at all, not even close to good replica by any replica watches standards...
With PAM replicas first you look at three things:
- the center wheel pivot pin, cheaper reps never get it flush with minute hand, please compare, first dead tell
- the pin that holgs CGs lever is never flush nor flat with reps, most gens have both flush and flat, this and trhe above just takes too much care on the finishing
- "L swiss made L" location, with reps most likely it is closer to the "6" than to rehaut's edge, all gens have this perfectly in the middle
Please make sure you know your fakes first until you try to compare and guess vs gen ones.

biggest tell for me is the Officine panerai on the movement. in the replica world I think there have been 5 versions done by the noob cartel for the 111. so far the Officine panerai still doesn't match the genuine

Ehhhhh Panerai watches aren't exactly known for their quality. Just take a look at brooklyn bridge limited edition. Panerai put in unmodified straight from the factory ETA movements in those so yeh...
I never held Panerai in my hands, but it was easy to guess which one is fake - the quality of finishing is very low, its pretty cheap fake.

Don't ever look at straps for authenticity. You can always buy a genuine strap and attach it to a fake.
I was also confused when I saw the strap...made in Austria..OMG..I bought once a Tissot watch, which had also a strap made in Austria, and after less then 1 year it dissolved like made of paper..and the metalllic items got rusty..(:-(((

I think ETA 6497 movement in this watch is overpriced,
An ETA Unitas 6497 costs about $160, it's all the finishing that makes a movement special and more expensive. Factory finishing with Geneva stripes/blued screws like in the original Panerai is about $200. It's not the movement that's overpriced, it's the brand.
No watch maker would touch a fake with a barge pole.

The numbers looked cheap on the fake. The printing on the dial looked shit. The lever was not as smooth.
I have seen much better fake Pam00111's sadly. The Noob 4 is so genuine looking.
