  • While staying in a rental house in Kersey, Suffolk, both Oana and I went for a walk to explore this ancient medieval village. We highlight some of them and even get to see inside a former weavers' house in the process of renovation.

Absolutely love this videos....I especially love watching them at 2AM while sitting in my office garage with the doors open and the temperatures dropping.

It's a cozy-looking village, I understand why people would want to come there and stay for a while. Too much pressure and anxiety in the modern world. Than you for the walk-about. I enjoyed it very much!

Thank you for bringing Kersey to life in your video. A branch of my family used to live in the village in the 18th and early 19th century, so I really must visit one day.

You should, Paul. It is very quiet and still very historic :)

That was utterly delightful! thank you Chris. what amazes me down here in France, all the villages, still have the specific washing places which also have a roof to protect the folks from the sun! Seeing the one you pointed out was most interesting! As the ones down here are quite huge and rectangular too! I really loved all the old buildings and the immense age of some of them too!!

Thanks, Nigel for sharing that. Rural France is still such a beautiful part of the world with many preserved traditions. :)

I grew up in River House Kersey, i attended the local village school. We had our lunch at the village hall and spent our pocket money at the sweet shop . the village was full of life and locals now it`s dead

You are perfectly correct about Kersey, today. It is a holiday let ghost village with a handful of wealthy retired residents. River House? Wow, that is a lovely old property. Thank you for sharing.

Your explorations of the back lanes are always rewarding, Chris. Tidied away from the public view are such quirks as letter boxes in walls at knee level (?) and a herd of mini-horses hosting a pet chicken. (But where are the cats? Oh, of course, there's Poppy...)

It`s these `off the road` areas which has so much surprising interest, Beth. :)

What a lovely little village, and so quiet, even though your walk-through took place during the day's three (perhaps four) vehicle rush hour lol. I adore the thatch-roofed crooked houses, flowers and period remnants. I do believe I'll keep my modern plumbing, electricity and contemporary laundering techniques, but in many other ways, modernity is oft overrated. Beautiful day for a walkabout!

That was great, a nice insight, thanks Chris. Villages are villages all over the world, which makes it interesting to see the similarities as well as the differences. I have seen thatched roofs in North China, near the sea, where sea reeds or grass of some sort seem to be used. By the way, I hope you have taken your famous hat to Romania with you.

A marvelous tour of Kersey, deep in detail and much more than I can remember as a child on my bicycle back in 1967. Its good that many ancient houses are renovated…even if as second or rental homes…it preserves at least these great buildings for prosperity 😊Thanks for taking us with you! 😊👍👍

England once had great marshes too, until they were drained for either farming, or building.
Then people wonder why so many places are prone to flooding.
