The Prettiest Village In Suffolk | Explore Kersey With Us

  • This is the longest video so far (and the chattiest!).
I've just spent the past week and a half in my home county of Suffolk, England, taking a break from work and enjoying several outings around the county to various places. On 16th May, Dominic and I drove out to the beautiful medieval village of Kersey. It felt like stepping back in time (the oldest house we found dated from 1334!) but I won't say any more because I'd like you to watch the video and explore with us! I hope you enjoy this outing and that it brings you the calm and peaceful feeling we experienced whilst we were there.
By the way, the pear & vanilla jam is AMAZING!
Thanks for watching! Please like and subscribe if you'd like to see more videos of us exploring the UK alongside my usual art and studio vlogs.

Wow! I use to live in the house opposite The Bell pub & next door was Quills, a restaurant run by Frankie & Dave who I rented a room from.. This was in the late 70's! The bulding at 9:26 used to belong to friends of mine called Tarling who had a working Pottery. The old part of the house inside was in pristine condition back then.
At the top of the hill, where you started was a brilliant pub called The White Horse run by Cathy & Bill - it was like a front room complete with old comfortable chairs & an open fire...it closed years ago.
There was a shop on the other side of the road to the Bell run by the Stiff family who were local farmers & opposite that shop lived Martin (I'm sure that was his name) with a workshop where he restored old Sunbeam motorbikes. I used to hang out there as I had a Yamaha 250...
You missed part of the village - you can see the lane at 15:28 - Hammond Innes, th well known author used to live down there!
Anyway, great video reminding me of many old memories!

I'm from the United States but I have a strong English heritage. It has always been my dream to visit England and meet the people and explore the culture and my ancestral roots. If and when we get COVID-19 under control, this is one of the villages I plan to explore.

Amazing, such wonderful architecture! You are so fortunate to live in a country with such a rich history. The oldest building I have been in here in the States was built in 1752, I can’t even imagine seeing one that has stood for over 700 years! Yes, would love to see more videos like this! X

What a beautiful video! It felt very calming watching you and Dominic saunter through Kersey's main street. What particularly brought me to this video is the latest Anthony Horowitz's mystery showing on PBS- Public TV-here in the US. "The Magpie Murders" was filmed not only in my native Dublin but also in Kersey. Such a picturesque location.

This was a lovely trip to the past my mum lived in the cottages just down from the church she passed away in April 1997 and is now asleep in kersey cemetery I miss her a great deal but in a way cause of this dreaded coronovirus I'm relieved she's not here as she was very ill and only 59 I mean I'm 51 now and very nervous for our country and the world when she lived here I was working various jobs round the world I was a chef so quite stressed much of the time but when I had some time off a quick cash to my mum's cottage in kersey and all my anxieties would melt away it is literally like stepping back half a millennia in the summer beautiful walks couple of pubs I used to sit on mum's front step chatting to sightseers as they came and went and I also would stroll the mile or so to nearby Hadleigh pretty little market town used to play them at school football we actually beat them once in 1983 to be exact what a game our only win in 3 years happy days I digress yes kersey is fabulous and I just hope we are all still around to appreciate villages like this which still have local people living there not some tosser from London who buys a holiday home and then the prices become obscene keep it local look after your neighbours stay away tossers don't destroy my mum's home and last resting place thankyou great video guys really enjoyed it from David now living in Cromer Norfolk currently in lock down look after one another x

Thanks so much for your comment, David. I loved hearing about your mum and where she lived and your memories of visiting her! Kersey really is the most beautiful and calming place - I wish I could visit more often. It does feel as if you've stepped back in time! I know Cromer a little bit too although it's been many years since I visited! My best friend's grandparents used to live there when we were at school back in the late 80s/early 90s. We used to go up on the train to see them! Hope you're staying safe and well during these strange times, and let's look to the future when we can once again visit these lovely places. x

@Dawn taylor hey hey just reading your very emotive message you've said it beautifully I was actually going to try and buy my mums cottage back in 98 and the owner was up for that then she was told that if she hung on the prices would rise and she'd get more dough for the house and that's what happened some plumb from the smoke bought the cottage now its a holiday place to say I was angry was an understatement anyway your message is a good one I'm on north Norfolk coast now its bloody windy today as well take care write some more if you like I do go to Kersey every couple of years say hi to my mums headstone it's a nice spot scattered my dad there as well take care

I just filmed in Kersey just the other day. A sad memory of Kersey is associated with the church at the top of the hill.
Around 30 years ago a young girl of 15 committed suicide in that church. They found her body hanging from a beam. Because her boyfriend dumped her. Very sad. They still speak of her in the village

    • @NatashaNewtonArt
      @NatashaNewtonArt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@NatashaNewtonArt yes so sad. Such a waste of a young life. I guess at 15 emotions can be so delicate especially if you totally love someone...many in the village knew the family and spoke of her even 30 plus years later. She would have been 45 plus now
